good morning. thanks for joining us on this sunday, april 22nd. i'm chris nguyen in for carolyn tyler. let's start with a preview of the accuweather forecast. lisa argen is here tracking the conditions. >> good morning, chris. it is a little cool out there. we are tracking a bit of fog. here's live doppler 7. you can see that on the peninsula. it's 45 in half moon bay. 55 in san jose and 51 around vallejo. visibility just a mile in napa. five miles at the coast. four miles petaluma. a nice day today. if you liked yesterday, today almost as nice. 40s throughout the 7:00 hour. by noontime, 60s at the coast. 70s around the bay. mid-70s inland. by 4:00 this afternoon, more mid-80s around the bay.

mid-70s. but still staying comfortable at the shoreline. sunsets just before 8:00. there's a chance to see a meteor shower tonight. i'll have details on that in a few minutes. chris? >> lisa, thanks. developing news in san francisco where firefighters are trying to determine the cause of a three-alarm fire that left one person dead in the inner sunset. the fire broke out just before 10:00 last night at a three-story residential building on 8th avenue between nor yag a and ortega. firefighters say a woman died. one firefighter was injured battling the flames, but he is expected to be okay. crews say the fire was difficult to put out. >> we show up on the front and the building is built down the hill in back. you have to go down towards the fire and fight that heat. it's very dangerous and a harrowing situation. >> neighbors say an elderly woman lives in the bottom unit with her son. it's unclear if she is the

person who died. >> get to a point where it was pretty pitch black and the officers were telling us the smoke is too dangerous and that we should go back in our houses. i came out again. i'm checking to see if my friend is okay. >> the red cross is helping those displaced by the fire. more developing news this morning out of contra costa county. dozens of customers are without water right now as crews continue to clean up after a water main break in lafayette. east bay mud tells abc 7 news a cast iron pipe broke this morning alongside highway 24. about 45 customers are without water. officials expect service to be back later this morning by 10:00 at the earliest. a defining moment and a surprise announcement coming out of north korea. the nation's communist leader says he will suspend his country's nuclear program. lisa amin gulezian has more on

the story. >> reporter: no more test missile launches, that's the word coming from north korean dictator kim jong-un. north korea state-run television reported the country will suspend all nuclear and ballistic missile tests immediately. a nuclear test site will also shut down. kim told the ruling workers party, our nation will focus efforts towards socialist economic development. >> the north koreans have a long history of misleading the world, particularly around weapons and nuclear programs. >> bay area congressman eric swalwell is on the house intelligence committee. he and colonel steven began yard admit they're skeptical. >> they've broken every treaty. they've broken every promise that they've ever made to us and to the south koreans. this will not just be trust but it will be distrust but verify.

>> still president trump reacted on twittg this is very good news for north korea and the world. big progress. look forward to our summit. a summit between the two leaders is tentatively set for late may or early june. >> president trump's impulse is going to have to be under control. he's dealing with somebody who is just as impulsive as he is and you can imagine how combustible a situation like that is. >> experts believe north korean missiles are capable of reaching the u.s. already. lisa amin gulezian. abc 7 news. a manhunt ended in sonoma county after a suspect in a deadly stabbing was captured. you're looking at that suspect. 18-year-old anthony eye back. he was arrested in san rafael. they think he was heading south towards san jose. yesterday afternoon a fight apparently broke out after a party. witnesses say he stabbed 19-year-old cory von in a parking lot there.

he died at the scene. investigators with the san mateo sheriff's office believe they can open new doors to finding missing loved ones. cornell barnard has the story from san carlos. >> at first glance, it looks like a job fair. you'll find vital resources for families of missing loved ones. >> he disappeared. >> she's looking for her brother since january 3rd, 1983 in san francisco. >> he was seeing a psychiatrist and the psychiatrist called my mom and said he never showed up for the appointment. >> he brought the picture to missing person's day an event hosted by the coroner's office helping friends and family file police reports and get information. >> it's a safe opportunity for them to come if they feel intimidated going to a law enforcement agency. they can come here to the coroner's office and have an opportunity to submit the dna. >> i did a dna swab, which i've

never done and thought that would be fantastic. >> a swab is sent to the department of justice's database to see if there are any matches to police cases. >> sometimes the matches come back to an individual who has deceased. the important part is it puts closure to the family and gets that individual identified. >> there are 400 active missing person's cases in san mateo county alone. technology could help open doors. >> you never know what a change in technology somewhere is going to affect that missing person's case. >> i really would like to have some kind of closure because i carry a lot of sadness. >> monica bliss waits to learn if her dna can reveal the truth about what happened to her brother. the process could take months. in san mateo county, cornell barnard, abc 7 news. a passenger from northern california on the southwest plane that had an engine explode in midair is recounting his terrifying moments to our

affiliate in sacramento. >> everybody breathe. relax. >> it was like oh, my gosh, you know, we're having rapid depressurization. here are the masks. good. oh, no. >> eric tells me he was sitting one row in front of the woman who died on southwest flight 1380 tuesday after an engine exploded. >> i could see that it was the window immediately behind me that had broken and that there was a woman who was partially outside the plane. >> zil bert quickly realized 43-year-old jennifer reardon was beyond saving. >> there was nothing anyone could do. the fact that she was blocking the window was probably saving other people from being taken out of the plane. >> he says many people around him panicked because they thought they weren't getting oxygen since the masks weren't inflating. >> i've been much more scared in situations like mountaineering or in the surf or diving where i

thought i would die. here after two minutes, i felt very calm and sure in the notion. >> why is that? >> because the person flying the plane was doing everything right. there was no smoke, there was no fire. once we were on the ground, she came out and she hugged and spoke to all of us. >> what do you think of southwest offering $5,000 to all the passengers and then the $1,000 voucher for the flights? >> my mother said, it's least they can do. i called my attorney and said is there any reason i shouldn't take the money. as long as it doesn't have any language that says this is compensation for or in any way implying that this was some kind of a settlement or anything. >> he says he doesn't blame the airline for what happened. >> the real culpability with this problem lays squarely between the industry and the faa. >> he adds, he's glad to see the federal aviation administration take steps this week to prevent

yesterday abc 7 news was in oakland at ricky henderson field where the baseball haul of famer and oakland graduate signed graduates and thanked the community for keeping his dream alive. the high school's baseball field built in 2008 was named in the former oakland a's honor. >> people come in and share their heart into this field. i'm so proud that they've been able to keep it as just like when it was brand new. >> the event recognized the community's efforts to keep the field working with $350,000 in donations and countless hours of volunteer work over the last decade. many music lovers took part in a twice yearly national event going back to your when your favorite songs were played on a turntable before mp 3 players. abc 7 news was at strictly vinyy records. several artists also released

new albums just for yesterday. they include superstars like eric clapton, led zeppelin, pink floyd and bruce springsteen. >> independent and larger record stores are -- we're putting out certain releases that come out special for today. it brings a lot of people in the door. >> a dj kept shoppers entertained while inside the shop. records stores day also takes place on black friday every year. right now is the best chance to look at a meteor shower. the show is under way. this is video from russia back in 2014. the meteor shower dates back 2700 years. your best opportunity to see the shower this year is before dawn this morning. sunrise it set for 6:24. sky gazers can see between 10 and 20 meteors an hour at the showers peak.

good sunday morning to you. waking up to some patchy fog. here's live doppler 7. you can see it along the coast. elsewhere, we'll be looking at a nice start to the day today. in fact, lots of sunshine with temperatures right in line with where we were yesterday. another vantage point here with our numbers looking at 50 in san francisco, 52 in fremont. san jose checking in at 55. 48 in morgan hill. numbers this morning are just a little warmer than they were yesterday anywhere from 2 to 4 degrees warmer. you can see the south end of the bay looking pretty nice with numbers there 4 degrees warmer. it's all due to high pressure. high pressure in command and the flow around is clockwise. with that, we have the warmer air inland. but still allowing for that sea breeze at the coast today. it will be in the 60s there again. no real changes. in fact, the changes come tomorrow when the system moving overhead is east of us. that will allow for temperatures

to come up a few degrees higher tomorrow. areas of fog this morning. warm again throughout the day today. especially inland and temps will be above average throughout the middle of the week. that's really when things start to change, though, about wednesday. inland valleys are always the last to see the cooling and you'll have one more warm day on wednesday. so if you've been sneezing or sniffling, it is the trees out there. the oak, sycamore and mulberry. very high indices. the mold spores aren't too bad but the weed, yes not a factor yet. we don't have any rain in the future to help you out. but hopefully in the next couple of days things could improve. certainly everything is still blooming out there. slightly warmer tomorrow. you can see the 80s year. 70s around the bay. the 60s in san francisco. as we go into tuesday, still 80s but a little cooler on the coast. we'll get more of that sea breeze here. 61 in the city. 60 half moon bay and cooler.

this begins the more general cooling trend all across the bay from wednesday in the upper 50s at the shoreline. that certainly will feel cooler. it's been nice at the coast with mid-60s. if you're headed to the beach today, breezy there. nothing too extreme. 10 to 20 miles per hour. 73 in oakland. look for 78 in fremont with san jose 81 degrees. lots of things going on again today. opening day on the bay. look how mild. noontime, 64, 65 at 3:00. still in the 60s by 6:00. it's an afternoon game today for the athletics. upper 60s to near 70 degrees. take the hat or plenty of sun block. chris covered this with a meteor shower peaking tonight. just an hour to check it out before the sun comes up. a neat sight if you're away from the city lights. overnight 40s and 50s with the clear sky and the accuweather seven-day forecast. earth day today, sunny and warm with temperatures comfortable at

. it's great to have you with us. i'm chris nguyen. we're starting this half hour with a quick look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen with a look ahead at the forecast. >> chris, good morning to you. you probably had the windows open last night, maybe even a few fans if you weren't ready to click on the ac. temperatures this morning in the low 50s from concord to danville. it's 50 in san francisco. 54 in mountain view. 55 in san jose. 54 los gatos and 45 in half moon bay. a little fog out 10:00 today, check it out. all in the 60s to near 70 except at the coast. half moon bay, 57 degrees.
