recently came to him with stunning news. >> he tells me that there is an inmate on his side of the jail who has told him that mr. bayat has offered him money to testify that adella says that he actually killed mr. green and that adella's wife was involved. >> reporter: he reported the allegation to the sheriff's office which conducted an investigation. >> and the conclusion was that the evidence did not -- was not sufficient in order to file charges for this. >> reporter: the district attorney says it wasn't clear where the money for the alleged bribe would come from. >> other than, of course, everybody knows that miss li comes from a very wealthy family. >> reporter: tiffany li's attorney tells abc 7 news we don't know about the veracity of the accusation and we have nothing to do with it. bayat's attorney strongly denies he was involved in witness tampering and says adella and

the inmate are friends who cooked up the story. >> what goal would that accomplish for mr. adella. he's already got a deal. >> reporter: adella has been moved to a different facility for his safety. in redwood city, melanie woodrow, abc 7 news. three students from oakland tech were hit by a car this afternoon near the school. sky 7 was over the campus after it happened. an oakland police spokesperson says the students were hit just after 2:30 near the high school. they were all taken to the hospital. a district spokesperson says the students suffered non-life threatening injuries. oakland tech is located on broadway near 51st street. the intersection was briefly closed after the accident but reopened less than a half hour later. a possible explosion in an underground electrical vault has closed part of a san jose street and left hundreds without power. sky 7 was over the scene. you can see the debris left behind as a result of that explosion. the fire department says pg&e

equipment caught on fire about 3:15 this afternoon. they let the fire burn out, no one was hurt. at one point 3,000 customers were without power. that's now down to about 1,000, 960 to be precise. 16 people in san francisco were treated after a gas line ruptured next to a homeless shelter. according to the fire department, construction workers are to blame for this. abc 7 news reporter lyanne melendez was one of the first to tweet about what happened near geary and polk street. >> reporter: shortly after 11:00 this morning geary and polk street was flooded with emergency vehicles. patients were triaged. a total of 16 people were suffering from the effects of a gas leak near the next door homeless shelter at 10001 polk street. >> i didn't have time to get any clothes on. as you can see i'm in a robe. this is so embarrassing. >> everything was feeling

nauseated, shortness of breath. >> reporter: how are you now? >> i'm fine. >> reporter: 14 of the 16 had to be taken to local hospitals. all of them were either workers or clients of the shelter. it didn't take long to determine the culprit. construction workers in the alley next to the shelter. jay flores construction company was working on a sewer project at the time. >> upon arrival we discovered a construction company had punctured a 2-inch gas main on the street. heavy smell of gas in the street. >> reporter: pg&e managed to clamp the line in less than an hour. police an firefighters kept this area cordoned off to ensure the safety of the public. >> we're always going to be on the side of safety so we evacuated to make sure everything was okay in case something happened. >> reporter: people were eventually allowed back inside after the building was inspected and the alley assessed to make sure there were no pockets of

gas. in san francisco, lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. a union city woman is in custody today accused of killing her husband. police found the body of a 57-year-old man inside the home on felspar court. the man had been shot several times. the man's wife was taken into custody. investigators haven't released a motive but they say the couple had a history with police. authorities haven't released the names of those involved until the couple's three adult children are notified. oakland police say a man with a machete assaulted officers this morning. opd posted a picture of the weapon that was recovered. police say the officers were responding to a call about a man with a machete arguing with someone. no word if the officers were injured. the suspect was taken into custody. a 45-year-old man faces sexual battery charges and other charges for allegedly grabbing a female cal student at the entrance of a residence hall

about 1:15 this morning. please say jesus dickey followed the woman from a nearby food court back to freeborn hall. a security monitor confronted dickey and told him to leave. campus police arrested him a short time later. he matches the description of a burglary and false imprisonment suspect in the city of berkeley. new at 5:00, a tuberculosis warning for students and staff in fairfield. an unnamed individual associated with the school is being treated for tuberculosis. solano county public health officials are working with the school to minimize further exposure. tb symptoms include coughing, weakness, fever and night sweats. a public meeting to discuss risks and protection will take place at the school from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. on wednesday. a tb screening and testing clinic will also be scheduled at the school next week. san francisco is launching a new team to attack a dangerous problem on city streets, talking about discarded syringes.

mayor mark fe rrrell joined the cleanup today. he was there to announce ten new workers who will clean this many up. neighbors and businesses can call in reports using the 311 system. a school bus was involved in a hit and run this morning. an suv drifted into oncoming traffic in watsonville this morning. the bus driver swerved to avoid that vehicle and crashed into a power pole. the good news here, no one was hurt. students onboard were picked up by a second bus and taken on to school. the chp says the driver of the suv left the scene and they don't have many leads. how hot is it today? hot enough for the misters to be turned on in city hall plaza at san jose. and it was nice enough to have lunch outdoors. some found it a good time to get a little exercise.

san jose has come up with a plan to make money from its light poles and provide internet service to underserved neighborhoods. david louie explains why an unusual partnership could be a good deal for students. >> reporter: san jose has 64,000 streetlight poles. 200 of them are going to be leased by at&t for $5 million over the next 15 years. technology called small cells or miniature cell-based stations will be placed on the leased light poles. they look like these small cell sites on light poles in downtown san francisco. the money will help to address broadband access in underserved neighborhoods. a san jose study estimates close

to half of families making under $35,000 a year have no broadband access. >> we know there are thousands of students who are required to do their homework online and cannot do so. instead are crowding outside starbucks at 9:00 at night on their parents' phones to try to do their homework assignments. >> reporter: the tentative deal also calls for at&t to pay the city an additional $1 million up front to cover permit fees. >> it helps us provide service where we have a dead spot or a low spot now and it also lets us predict into the future where we know there's going to be traffic issues and allows us to build up capacity in those areas where we have heavy usage. >> reporter: community organizations embrace the deal. >> a lot of parents have been organizing on this issue for several years now and have been contributors to solutions, and so i hope now that there's an actual solution that's both a public and private collaboration that our neighborhood is one of the first ones to get supported.

>> reporter: san jose's contract with at&t is nonexclusive, which means that other carriers can come in and bid for space on city poles. in san jose, david louie, abc 7 news. all right. you could soon get a chance to vote on whether the state remains part of the union. the secretary of state's office has cleared yes california to start gathering signatures for the group's proposed initiative to establish an independent referendum in 2021. organizers have until october to gather 366,000 signatures from california voters. cal exit supporters say they're tired of living in a state with some of the highest taxes in the country. >> this is about taxation without representation. every revolution starts because of that. >> i'm personally fed up. like i can't take it anymore. i work way too hard to struggle this much. >> campaign organizers say if they can't collect a quarter of the voter signatures required,

the picture outside, it's a gorgeous one. a live look from our exploratorium camera atop pier 15, it's a gorgeous day on the waters. if you have to take the ferry, really no worries out there. you look at sutro tower and this is what we're tracking in terms of changes. the fog is coming back. we're in that time of the year where the fog comes back. it means it will break some of the heat we've had the past couple of days. you can see those changes along the immediate coastline. as the fog begins to roll in, half moon bay a chilly 55. where we still have plentiful sunshine, we're in the 70s and 80s at this hour. 76 in san jose but 86 in concord. 78 the current number in napa and santa rosa with a temperature of 77 degrees. here's the call from accuweather. over the next 12 hours, that fog that is confined to the coast will spill into the bay so a lot of us along the immediate bay shoreline tomorrow morning will wake up with some low cloud cover, some fog and most spots starting out in the 40s for your

morning temperatures tomorrow morning. live doppler 7 along with salts, here's the pattern that we have. high pressure right over california. that's why we are mainly cloud-free across the golden state. take a look even closer to the coast right now and what we're seeing is the fog finally making a return along our coastline and it will expand overnight tonight. here's your 12-hour planner on your tuesday. we had that fog first thing in the morning. temperatures starting out in the 40s, but we're in that pattern where midday that fog is really just confined to the coast. it pulls back across much of the region to reveal some sunshine. by 4:00 it's a little cooler of a day tomorrow, but still temperatures well above average for this time of the year. as we take a look at your highs on tuesday, starting in our microclimates in the south bay, a lot of sunshine. it's still mild in san jose. 77 cupertino, 78 for santa clara. a little fog in the morning along the peninsula. it pulls back to the coast. so 74 mountain view, sunny afternoon.

72 for san mateo but foggy in half moon bay at 62 degrees. downtown san francisco, fog to sun, stuck in the fog for daly city. 63 for the high tomorrow. 79 for santa rosa, 76 vallejo, it's bright and beautiful in the east bay after morning fog. 71 in oakland, 74 fremont, about 72 for castro valley. inland we're still in the 80s, just not the mid-80s like today, the lower 80s tomorrow. so 80 in san ramon, 82 in antioch, 81 in pleasanton. as we get into the end of the week, we're tracking a chance of an isolated sprinkle friday night. the best chance would be in the north bay, but the bigger picture with this system that's going to try and bring a sprinkle to the north bay, it's going to bring widespread cooling to the entire region by friday and into the upcoming weekend. so the seven-day forecast, fog along the coast tomorrow. it's still mild out there, even into wednesday. by thursday we'll track that cooler, refreshing air move in. there's that chance of a sprinkle on friday night in the north bay, but really over the weekend, guys, it just brings

our temperatures back to where they should be this time of the year in the 60s and in the 70s. so it is a little mild tomorrow afternoon. >> thank you, drew. a stark warning from uc researchers tonight. why the state -- they say the state's wild extremes of drought and floods will likely worsen as climate change increases. we've seen extreme conditions over the past couple of years going from extreme drought to very wet conditions, of course. researchers call these whiplash events. they say the frequency of these quick year-to-year swings are expected to double in southern california by the end of the century. they would also increase in northern california, but not at the same rate. berkeley city council will consider the disposable foodware and litter reduction ordinance tomorrow. it was passed in santa cruz and alameda and require only reuseable foodware be used for dine-in service. also food vendors would charge 25 cents for disposable beverage cups and food containers. walmart is getting suppliers
