and meek mill is a free man. he celebrated by heading to the sixers' playoff game in a helicopter. those are some of our top stories on this wednesday, april 25th. from abc news, this is "world news now." >> we do say good morning. we start with breaking news from dallas and the two police officers who were injured. the hours-long manhunt there is now over for the person who shot those officers and a security guard. >> the suspect is in custody after hours on the run and even driving on the sidewalk. the suspect it turns out was wanted for missing a robbery sentencing hearing. now he's held on aggravated assault and other charges. marcus moore has more from dallas. >> reporter: what has been a

chaotic and desperate search has come to an end in this dallas neighborhood. and an abc news source tells us that 29-year-old armando juarez is under arrest. he is accused of critically injuring two police officers and a security guard at a home depot that prompted a manhunt, leading to a chase and ending here. at the same time, the sheriff has told residents to pray for the officers and their families. when they went to the hospital they were in critical condition. >> want to take this opportunity to thank the officers for an outstanding job. all of our support from our surrounding state, local and federal officers throughout the metroplex, for bringing this individual to custody. they've taken a punch, they've come out fighting, and they've brought someone into custody that we are very, very proud of them.

>> reporter: and the shooting comes almost two years after five dallas-area officers were killed in an ambush downtown. marcus moore, abc news, dallas. and toronto officials say they're still trying to verify the identity of some of the victims of that van attack. most of them were women, and that may be a clue to the driver's motive. elizabeth hur has that story. >> reporter: surveillance cameras capturing a busy toronto sidewalk turning into a scene of death and destruction. some of the evidence investigators are now reviewing for answers. now as we learn details about alek minassian. >> he is alleged to have posted a cryptic message on facebook minutes before he drove the van. >> reporter: that post taken down soon after the attack, including the message, all hail supreme gentleman elliot rodger. rodger killed people in santa barbara.

>> can you say if the suspect was frustrated with his relationship with women? >> that's part of the investigation. >> reporter: for now, police only confirming most of the injured victims were women in their 20s to 80s. this eyewitness saying she almost became a victim herself. >> i remember being pulled away into the direction, and he accelerated and hit the lady, and all i can envision is that vivid image of the lady being on top of his hood and thrown to the ground and he ran over her as he plowed to the crowd. >> reporter: minassian said nothing about his motive. outside, his father offered an apology to the victims' families, but maintained he saw no warning signs. we are told the suspect was in the canadian military last year but quit after 16 days in training. right now he's in jail, held without bond. kendis and diane? >> quite an investigation getting under way there in

toronto. our thanks to elizabeth. the trump administration's efforts to end a controversial immigration program has suffered its biggest legal setback yet. a federal judge ordered him to accept new applications from dreamers. he said the decision to terminate the program protecting young immigrants brought to the country as children was arbitrary. now the administration has 90 days to adequately explain why it believes the dreamers program is unlawful or it will fully resume. and the nominee to lead the va is fighting back. >> he is accused of handing out prescriptions like candy during the obama administration. critics say at times he was too inebriated to do his job. brad mielke has more. >> ronny jackson was already under fire with people saying he wasn't experienced enough.
