mission boulevard, 14 minutes. 101 to cupertino looking good at 16 minutes. this morning the man accused of being the golden state killer is in police custody. we've learned he's scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow. former police officer joseph james deangelo was arrested yesterday morning at his sacramento area home after dna linked him to a pair of murders. investigators say he terrorized california for more than a decade. at least 12 murders, upwards of 50 rapes and more than 100 burglaries spread fear across the state from 1974 to 1986. it began in and around sacramento, moved on to the bay area, then to southern california. bruce harrington's brother and sister-in-law were among the murder victims. >> for the 51 ladies who were brutally raped, sleep better tonight. he isn't coming through the window.

he's now in jail and he's history. >> deangelo only became a speck a few days ago. a discarded dna sample provided the confirmation they needed. deangelo was a former police officer, and this case is far from over. deangelo has only been arrested for a few of the murders, a pair of murders. prosecutors though promise that more charges are coming. reggie? >> police say the golden state killer made phone calls to victims, some before and some after his attacks. a phone wiretap caught a chilling call to one of those victims. some of the sounds are going to be a little muffled. but you can clearly hear the word "kill" from this call in 1978. >> i'm gonna kill you. i'm gonna kill you. i'm gonna kill you.

>> that is so disturbing. police in the sacramento area also received a call from a man claiming to be the killer. bragging he would never be caught. >> deangelo's neighbors say he was quirky, had a temper but they never suspected he could be a possible killer. he lived in the suburb of citrus heights for 30 years. he shared a home with his daughter and granddaughter. some neighbors recall how the crimes terrorized the state. >> i remember my mother and grandmother being terrified. it was literally terrifying. >> i can't believe he's been that close for that long. this is always a calm and quiet family friendly area. >> the sacramento county sheriff says when deputies arrested deangelo, he said he had a roast in the oven. officers said they would take care of it. we have compiled a timeline and more about deangelo and his many suspected victims. go to abc7news.com.

we also have the information on the abc 7 news app. the woman who accused 49ers linebacker reuben foster of beating her now says she lied about it. prosecutors filed domestic violence charges against foster two weeks ago. his former girlfriend, alyssa ennis claims her injuries were caused by a fight with another woman. a statement released by her attorney says foster tried to end the relationship after he learned about that fight. it goes on to say she was extremely upset and told him if he broke up with her, she would trash his career. epa chief scott pruitt will be in the hot seat. two congressional committees are set to question him about the spending and ethics standal surrounding him. he's facing criticism for his high price travel, installation of a soundproof phone booth in his office. president trump has continued to stand by pruitt. the white house is preparing

you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. the cooling is on hold around the oakland and san francisco and san jose as it really starts to move inland today. look at the trop of temperatures at napa and walnut creek. six to nine degrees. that's also temporary, more cooling is on the way. i'll show you the chance of rain in less than about three minutes. thank you, mike. the e. coli outbreak involving romaine lettuce continues to get worse. at least another 31 cases are believed to be tied to tainted romaine grown in yuma, arizona. more than half are female. the outbreak has made 84 people sick in is it states. 13 of them in california. the search for the exact source is still on going. >> our state senate committee signed off on a bill to create special banks for the cannabis industry. the measure would recrete limited service banks and credit unions for cannabis growers, distributors and retailers. air mauna businesses will be given special checks to pay for their expenses.
