good morning, everybody. i'm caroline tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, april 29th. let's start with a quick look at the weather with lisa archer. >> good morning, everyone. hi, there. starting out with live doppler 7 where we're in the same pattern with the system to the north and the scirculation and allowing fr cloud cover and showers. did you notice the wet pavement? we had a few showers and temperatures have been kept up. 47 in santa rosa, 46 in clover dale and clear lake but elsewhere, low to mid 50s. 52 in free monmont and partly cy and temperatures will stay in

the 60s while we stay cool at the coast. low to mid 50s and the sunsets before 8:00 and i'll let you know when we'll see temperatures come around to may averages when we see you again. caroline? >> lisa, tank you. breaking news, one man is dead after a crash on 280. it happened around 10:30 last night near the highway 87 interchange. a chp officer found the victim face down in the road way. he was taken to the hospital where he died. the crash closed all lanes of 280 for about two hours. it's unclear how the driver crashed. >> developing news, four people are recovering this morning after being rescued from their boat in pacificia. it was first reported around 11:15 last night at pacificia state beach, better known as linda mar beach. a man was driving when he saw the light of the boat and stopped to help. a woman on board jumped off but

landed on her face. he had to pull her out. paramedics arrived shortly afterwards. they were sailing for 11 hours when they ran out of diesel. they were headed to san diego. more developing news now out of daily city, police are investigating a shooting at a bowling alley that left a man in critical condition. it happened just after 9:00 last night inside the classic bowling center on king drive. police stopped a car not far from the bowling alley. it's uncle involved in the incident. details about a suspect have not been released. in the east bay, a hercules police officer and another driver went to the hospital after their cars collided yesterday evening. one of the cars also hit a third vehicle at san pablo and sycamore avenue.

the cop had his lights and sirens on and a female driver collided with him. both are expected to survive. right now, it's unclear if the driver heard the police sirens before the crash. the founder of the worldwide phenomenon known as burning man has died. though the party in the desert moved from san francisco to nevada years ago, its roots are still here. abc 7 news reporter lisa went to a special memorial last night in honor of larry harvey. >> to rlarry. >> to the spark. >> reporter: this is where burning man started in 1986 with a small bonfire on baker beach by this man, larry harvey. since then it's grown into the worldwide phenomenon it is today. >> he is really managed to do something a few people in the world have done with no commerce, no religion, it's not

a cult, it's a wonderful community. >> reporter: and on the day of his death, strangers, yet like-minded people gathered to remember the father of the annual event they love so much. >> it has always meant to be shared. there are no spectators. >> but it's not larry and it's you and you and you and you and everybody. >> it's the 70,000 people that come together to celebrate. >> reporter: burning man is just that, a celebration of art, of humanity, of co-existence and its current home in the nevada desert. >> a gift has an unconditional value. >> reporter: it's a way of life many have shared for more than 30 years. the word community is constantly used when it comes to burning man, and it was the online community that brought this group together on this night at this time. at baker beach, lisa abc 7 news. the search for a missing fisherman has been called off.

he and another man were thrown from their boat into the water after it was hit by a wake around 8:30 yesterday morning. the men were thrown into the delta east of the bridge. >> a fishing boat heard them in the water yelling and responded to assist. they were able to get one of the gentlemen in the water. the other they were unable to find. >> a search by the coast guard and sheriff's office was called off at 3:00 yesterday afternoon. the men were not wearing life vests. u.c. berkeley police are looking for an armed man trying to rob a female student yesterday morning. she fought to get herself to safety and narrowly made it into one of the dorms. katy spoke with a woman that lives in the same dorm. >> you know, she's okay. she's obviously shaken up. >> reporter: grace mozier lives

in the same dorm. you can see the man who police say just tried to rob her. he's looming outside the door with what appears to be a gun in his hand. >> something on the lines of give me your stuff. i have a gun and will shoot. >> the woman was walking home around 4:30. it was on channing way. >> he decided to walk. >> grace says the man caught up to the woman and put her in a loose choke hold. she wiggled free and ran towards the dorm. he grabbed her jacket and tennis racket. when those slid off, she made it to safety. first-year student joy day receives notices about robberies and thefts several times a week. >> honestly, at this point i'll numb to it. dang, that happened? that sucks. it's good to hear because you know what areas on campus to

stay away from. >> reporter: after hearing the frightening story firsthand, the women that live on the same floor as the woman ordered a box of pepper spray. they say he's a light-skin man in his 20s with dark hair, possibly corn rows, he wore a dark hoodie and acid wash jeans. >> if someone has more information, they can get us that information to track down the suspect. u.c. berkeley offers shuttle and night walk services. a california woman on the southwest plane that suffered a deadly engine mishap is the first passenger to file a lawsuit. chavez claims she's been suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder because of what happened on flight 1380. she filed suit on southwest and the manufacturer. she was seated three rows behind the window that shattered.

we're hearing the voices of highway patrol officers for the first time after a car dragged one of them onto the bay bridge following a traffic stop. that officer, his name is spears is now recovering at home after friday night's dangerous confrontation with a driver. witnesses tell abc 7 the driver tried to speed away after the officer stopped her. he clung to the steering wheel while she hit other cars. you're about to hear the officers who raced to help him and the officer himself. >> we have the driver detained. motorcycle is here. he was drug down to sterling. >> drug half a mile by a car. >> well, the suspect, 33-year-old nicole christine wadd is in the san francisco county jail. she could face several felony charges. now this is a picture of the

officer that she's accused of hurting. i think we already saw him. oakland residents spent part of their saturday preparing for disaster yesterday as the city's 13th annual core disaster preparedness drill. core stands for city wide emergency response exercise. the public education program was established in 1990 following the 1989 earthquake. drills like the one yesterday have been taking place since 2006. >> we have earthquakes here. we have fires here. we have a large active port that can cause hazardous materials. our goal is to get people ready to take care of themselves and be resilient in the face of a disaster. >> yesterday's exercise simulated a major earthquake along the hayward fault which would really cause disaster. 2,000 volunteers are trained annually throw the core program.

a test drive ended with a driver being tased and put in handcuffs after livermore police had to steal the brand-new car. officers took this photo after they arrested robert earl joes the third around 12:30 yesterday afternoon. they claimed jones drive away after a salesperson got out of the car when they returned to livermore honda. the dealership called police and an officer then stopped jones. police tell us he tried to fight with officers so they tased him. people around san francisco's union square were surprised to see a low-flying helicopter yesterday morning. you don't see this every day. the chopper was called in to help replace rooftop h-vac units. it hoisted equipment down and lifted new machinery back up.

the sky crane as its referred to is typically used for the most introit jobs. >> a young woman brought her personal crusade to san francisco hoping to say thanks to the remaining veterans from america's forgotten war. ♪ ♪ >> abc news was there when they soluted tens of thousands of conrads they lost in the early 1950s. hanna kim is visiting in all 50 states to express her gratitude. >> my veterans, i call them my grandpas, because i tell them if they didn't fight in korea more than 60 years ago, i literally wouldn't be here, not only myself but 2 million americans. >> kim also placed a wreath at san francisco's memorial. one of jerry brown's pet

projects make support from the bay area. the governor is pushing to build two huge tunnels in the sacramento delta to move water to southern california. the idea has been slowly moving forward but comes with a steep price tag in the billions. the santa clara valley water district is showing interest and may commit up to $650 million to the project. our media partners at the mercury news report a boat is scheduled for wednesday. new this morning, the australian federal government is pledging more money to help deal with the problems facing the great bayerer wreath. the package includes half a billion australian dollars or 380 million u.s. dollars. the money will go toward improving water quality, expanding reef restoration and developing coral that's more resistant to high temperatures. this is the single largest investment for wreath conservation and management in australia's history.

the weekend is not over and the new "avengers" movie already set a record. "avengers infinity war" earned 100-how much did it earn? $106 million friday. just the third movie ever to do that. reporter george from our sister station in l.a. talked to the "infinity war" directors how they balanced an incredibly large famous super cast. >> the end is near. ♪ ♪ >> undone and will exist. >> the goal here is something epic. >> i mean, this is the big finish. if you're, you know, if marvel has been writing a book for ten years, this is the final chapter. everyone whose been investing

time and energy and emotion and passion in these characters, you get to see the big finish. so i think that, you know, there will be some endings and new beginnings and a new book will get written after this. >> i think it's good except it sucks so let me do the plan and that way it might be really good. >> wow. >> many of these characters in this movie are meeting each other for a first time so for a story level, they need to get to know one another and know everybody's back story coming to this moment. >> i'm peter, by the way. >> strange. >> oh, using your made up names. then i am spiderman. >> we had an incredible passion for these characters since we were kids. even though it is very difficult, the creative opportunity of making these movies, this number of actors and characters that have so much love for them was an incredible opportunity for us and we were driven by the excitement after that. >> the brothers are also very protective of the franchise. they are asking all fans who go see it to keep quiet about what

than normal conditions and the temperatures that have been below normal and we did see a bit of shower activity and so once again, until this system exits, we will have sort of on and off again clouds with sun and the possibility of a shower but also there is another system behind it so it looks like we'll stay underneath this pattern for the next 24 to 30 hours or so. 53 in oakland now, 54 in hayward. good morning san jose, 54 for you and the winds are up to about 15 miles an hour at the surface but as we go higher up, 28 mile an hour winds. and looking at the east bay hills, some breezy winds, as well. it is going to be another cool afternoon. if you like the 60s and temperatures a little below average. you're in luck today and tomorrow. we'll feature the cooler weather. chance of a morning showe showee party partly cloudy skies. things certainly will switch out

as we get towards the midweek. right now, your hour by hour forecast does show just a little bit of precip. it doesn't look like much but once you're under a little stirry shower, you're thinking it is raining out there. throughout the day the clouds do decrease like yesterday and if you're spending time on the peninsula, you'll notice mid and upper 50s through the 10:00 hour, the 11:00 hour, highs in the low 60s with breezy winds from belmont to the south bay and 65 today. santa clara, san jose and sunny vail. temperatures narrow range with the cloud cover upper 50s here from pacificia and half moon bay. 62 do 2 downtown and low 60s an north bay we should be 70 for santa rosa. highs today 63 there as well as napa and vallejo taking it to the east bay, berkeley, oakland today low to perhaps mid 60s. newark and union city, still a

lot of cloud cover. 66 in concord, 64 in livermore. another game today. at&t park where temperatures will be about 60 degrees at 2:05 dropping into the 50s, it will be breezy once again in the switch-day f seven-day forecast. sun and possibly a shower. otherwise it's a cool afternoon today, tomorrow with temperatures in the 50s at the coast, 60s elsewhere so very little change. tuesday we begin to bump up numbers inland and wednesday the warming trend begins feeling more like spring on thursday. download the accuweather app and keep track out temperatures and it's been interesting, the roadways have been wet so we picked up just a little bit out there. >> a little precip. thank you, lisa. >> just ahead, this guy really taking the term spring skiing to a whole new

a recall of fire extingui extinguishers in november set off an alarm when they ran into delays trying to get theirs replaced, they contactd seven on your side's michael finney. >> eddie doesn't take any chances when it comes to fire at his american canyon home. he's equipped his home with a fire extinguisher, a sprinkler system and sploekmoke >> my younger sister was burned on her article. >> eddie and his wife judith saw the voluntary recall of his extinguisher on the news. the nozzles can become clogged and difficult to activate and the same nozzles can break off.

eddie called kida. >> the person i spoke to acted as if i was were out of my mind. recall? are you talking about? >> reporter: eddie says they told him to call back the next day after the staff was briefed. it was then he says the company told him he could expect a new fire extinguisher in 15 days. >> i waited 20 days. i called back. what was your name again? we don't have any record of you calling. >> reporter: eddie and his wife grew more frustrated. they were especially concerned because their grandchildren lived with them at the time. >> in case there was a fire, that would be horrible for something. >> reporter: they blame the wait on a crash computer system. >> especially when it could save someone's life. >> reporter: a spokesperson told us it appears something was

welcome back, everyone. we're starting this half hour with a look at the weather. >> hey, caroline. good morning to you. waking up to mild temperatures certainly in the south bay where we're looking at 54 in san jose

and mountain view and hayward. 47 santa rosa and napa. for some of you, it's cooler closer to the bay but for others, it is warmer out there. we're still underneath this same pattern where we'll have dominant cloud cover and isolated sprinkle this morning. you can see 7:00 few showers in the south bay but towards 11:00, still mostly cloudy upper 50s to near 60 and as we go through the afternoon, we will thin out the cloud cover again but we'll call it partly sunny, low 60s cooler than average in concord today and in the low 60s in san francisco. by 7:00. the shower chances should be behind us but looks like the sierra nevada could pick up snow and rain showers through early tuesday. we'll talk in detail about our own accuweather seven-day forecast in a few minutes. >> thank you, lisa. for the second time, president trump skipped the white house correspondence dinner. instead, he attended a campaign-style rally in michigan where he faced an energetic crowd of supporters.

here is jenae norman.norman.nor. we'll get to that story as soon as possible. moving on, we have new details this morning north korea plans to close its main nuclear test site in may. a senior south korean spokesperson made that announcement today. kim says he is not that kind of person who will shoot missiles at the united states. we're talking about kim jong-un. this comes after his historic meeting between the north korean leader and south korea's president on friday. they met at the demilitarized zone between the two countries. kim is the first north korean leader to step foot in the south. during the meeting, both leaders called for an official end to the korean war. this week, abc news chief white house correspondent jonathan karl goes one on one with newly confirmed secretary of state mike pompeo.

he and kim jong-un had a good conversation during his recent surprise visit to pyongyang and says kim is prepared to help us achieve denuclearization. you can watch the full interview on this week with george parents in florida are praising a school bus driver after more than 20 children escaped from a burning bus unharmed. witnesses captured this video when smoke filled the front of the bus on friday. the driver led all 22 students to an emergency exit. they escaped before flames reached their seats. >> they have a big responsibility, you know, with all those kids in the bus so you got to try to save them all. >> the bus driver declined to be interviewed by local tv stations in the ft. myers area but she summed it up by doing her job and protecting her passengers as if they were her own.

investigatiors blame an engine problem for the fire. it was supposed to be almost done, but take one drive down san francisco's corridor and you can tell that all that construction is nowhere near finished. the project will convert one of the lanes into bus-only lanes in both directions from from from m lumbart. there is another delay and the neighborhood isn't too happy about it. >> reporter: from the beginning, city leaders said it was big. >> one of the most important transit projects in our city and i cannot wait. >> reporter: but they have to wait. the improvement project to redo the street with bus rapid transit hit a five-month delay. >> it is a very old street and unfortunately, we're finding a lot of things that we didn't know were there and when we do find things, we have to stop. >> reporter: in this case, workers uncovered utility lines. nobody knows who they belonged to. >> we don't know if it's safe to

and it was -- came right down to the end in a few plays and it went our way. >> game one of the giants' dodgers' doubleheader on saturday was a snooze fest until the ninth inning. that's when pablo sandoval took the mound. yes, you heard me correctly. pablo sandoval became the first position player to take the hill since 1991. the dodgers and giants got a chuckle out of this one but panda didn't scuffle through it. he needed only 11 pitches to get through the inning. three consecutive ground outs and that's worthy of a standing ovation. the dodgers rolled the giants 15-6 but panda let us in on how much he's actually pitched before. >> the first time in my career. it's not that easy but i try to do it every time i can to save some for the next game. >> how long have you been working on the side as a pitcher?
