good morning, everyone. i'm caroline tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, april 29th. let's start with a quick look at the weather with our meteorologist. >> hi, caroline. good morning. live doppler 7 showing you a lot of cloud cover but it's up in northern california and rotating in cooler air and as we look outside from walnut creek, a nice-looking view with partly cloudy conditions and temperatures mild from the low 50s, oakland, san francisco, 54 mountain view and you can see just a sliver of that sun there. 44 the numbers have dropped in

the north bay santa rosa, 47 napa and fairfield and 53 in concord and 50 in livermore. for the day today, we will have the clouds again mixed in with sun but the temperatures will stay below average. we'll call it partly sunny by noontime. about 60 bay side and inland with 50s on the coast and by the afternoon, very little change from yesterday. a slight chance of an isolated sprinkle in the morning, other-wise we're still in the cool weather pattern to start the workweek. i'll tell you when things warm up with my accuweather seven-day forecast. >> thank you. breaking news out of the south bay where an investigation is underway. a man is dead after a crash on interstate 280 in san jose. it happened around 10:30 last night. a chp officer found the victim face down in the road way. he was taken to the hospital where he died. that crash closed all lanes of 280 for a couple of hours. it is unclear how the driver

crashed. developing news, four people are recovering this morning after being rescued from their boat in pacificia. it was first reported around 11:15 last night at pacificia state beach. a man was driving when he saw the light of the boat and stopped to help. he says a woman on board jumped off but landed on her face and he had to pull her out. paramedics and police arrived shortly after and treated the four people. one of the co-captains says they were sailing for 11 hours when they ran out of diesel. they were headed to san diego. more developing news now out of daily city. police are investigating a shooting at a bowling alley that left one man in critical condition. it happened just after 9:00 last night inside the classic bowling center on king drive. police stopped a car on west burro not far from the bowling alley. it's unclear if that car was involved in the incident.

details about a suspect have not been released. in the east bay a hercules police officer and another driver went to the hospital after their cars coal leaded yesterday evening. another car hit a third vehicle. police tell us the officer was rushing to a domestic violence call and had lights and sirens on when a female driver collided with him. both are expected to survive. it's unclear if the driver actually heard the sirens before the crash. the founder of the worldwide phenomenon known as burning man died. the party moved from san francisco years ago, its roots are here. lisa went to a special memorial last night in honor of larry harvey. burning man started in 1986 with a small bonfire on baker beach. by this man larry harvey. since then, it's grown into the worldwide phenomenon it is today. >> he is really managed to do something few people in the world have done with no commerce, no religion, it's not a cult. it's a wonderful community. >> reporter: and on the day of his death, strangers yet like-minded people gather to remember the father of the annual event they loved so much. >> it has always meant to be shared and participated there are no spectators. >> it's not larry but it's you and you and you and me and everybody. >> it's the 70,000 people that come together to celebrate. >> reporter: burning man is just that. a celebration of art, of humanity, of co-existence and its current home in the nevada desert. >> a gift has an unconditional value. it can't be a quick

pro. >> reporter: the word community is constantly used with the word burning man and the online community brought this group together on this night at this time. at baker beach, abc 7 news. the search for a missing fisherman in the delta has been called off. he and another man were thrown from their boat into the water after it was hit by a wake a wae yesterday morning. the fisherman saving. >> the fishing boat heard him and responded and get one of the gentleman out and able to find. >> a search by the coast guard was called off at 3:00 yesterday afternoon. the men were not wearing life

vests. they were trying to rob a female student yesterday morning. she fought to get herself to safety and narrowly made it into one of the dorms. abc 7 news reporter katy spoke with the woman who lives in the same dorm. >> you know, she's okay. she's, i mean, obviously shaken up. >> reporter: grace lives in the same dorm suite as the woman seen on the ground in this surveillance picture taken at unit one. you can see the man who police say had just tried to rob her. he's looming outside the door with what appears to be a gun in his hand. >> something along the lines of give me your stuff, i have a gun and i''ll shoot. she said her first reaction was to take off. >> reporter: the woman was walking home around 4:30 saturday morning in college avenue and channing way. >> the way she describes it, it seems like a besid de decided to take advantage of her. >> he caught up with the woman and put her in a loose choke hold. he grabbed her jacket and tennis

racket. when those slid off her back, she made it inside to safety. >> i have no idea. that's scary. >> reporter: first year student joy day says she receives notices about robberies and thefts several times a week. >> honestly, at this point i'm numb to it. it's like dang, that happened? that sucks. but it's good to hear about it because you know what areas are on campus to stay away from. >> reporter: after hearing the frightening story firsthand, the women that live on the same floor as the victim decided to order a box of pepper spray. >> reporter: police say he's a light skinned man in his 20s with dark hair, possibly corn rows and wore a dark hoodie and possibly acid wash jeans. >> if somebody has more information, they will be able to get us more information to track down the suspect. >> reporter: u.c. burerkeley offers shuttle and night walk services. a california woman on the southwest plane that suffered a deadly engine mishap is the

first person to file a lawsuit. chavez claims she's been suffering posttraumatic stress disorder because of what happened on flight 1380. you remember a woman was sucked out of the plane almost, she filed suit against southwest and the engine's manufacturer cfm international. chavez says she was seated three rows behind the window that shattered. southwest and cfm have declined to comment. we're hearing the voices of highway patrol officers for the first time after a car dragged one of them onto the bay bridge following a traffic stop. that officer, whose name is spears, is recovering at home after friday night's dangerous confrontation. witnesses tell abc 7 the driver tried to speed away after the officer stopped her. he clung to the steering wheel while she hit other cars. you're about to hear the officers that raced to help him and the officer him several. >> we have the driver detained.

motorcycle is here. he was drug down to sterling. >> drug about half a mile by a car. and tried to kill me. >> the suspect 33-year-old nicole christine wad is in the san francisco county jail. she could face several felony charges. oakland residents spent part of their saturday preparing for disaster. yesterday was the city's 13th annual core disaster prepa preparedness drill. it stands for city response exercise. the program was established in 1990 following the 1989 earthquake. drills like this one yesterday have been taking place since 2006. >> we have earthquakes here. we have fires here. we have a large active port that can cause hazardous material incidents. we have hazard profiles. our goal is to get people ready

lanes to close for two hours. they have reopened. it's unclear what caused this deadly accident. a test drive ended with the driver being tased and put in handcuffs after livermore police say he tried to steal the brand-new car. officers took this photo after they arrested robert early jones the third around 12:30 yesterday afternoon. they claim they drove away after they returned to live more honda. an officer stopped jones. police tell us he tried to fight with officers so they tased him. people around san francisco's union square were surprised to see a low-flying helicopter yesterday morning. you don't see this very often. that chopper was called in to help replace rooftop h-vac units on the hilton hotel.% it hoisted equipment down and lifted new machinery up. the sky crane has its called is typically used for the most

introit jobs. a young woman brought her personal crusade to san francisco hoping to say thanks to the remaining veterans from america's forgotten war. ♪ ♪ >> abc 7 news was there when korean war vets soluted tens of thousands of comrades they lost on the battle field in the early 1950s. hanna kim is visiting korean war memorials in all 50 states to express her gratitude. >> my veterans, i call them my grandpas because if they didn't fight in korea i wouldn't be here. not only myself but 2 million americans. >> kim also placed a wreath at san francisco's memorial. one of jerry brown's pet projects may get some support from the bay area. the governor has been pushing to build two huge tunnels in the

sacramento delta to move water to southern california. the idea has been slowly moving forward but comes with a steep price tag in the billions. the santa colllara district is showing interest to make up to $650 million to the project. our media partners at the mercury news report a boat on the funding is scheduled for wednesday. new this morning, the australian government is pledging more money to help deal with the problems facing the great barrier wreath. the package includes half a billion australian dollars, that's about 380 million u.s. dollars. the money will go towards improving water quality expanding reef restoration and developing coral that's more resistant to high temperatures. this is the single largest investment for wreath conservation and management in australia's history. well, the weekend is not yet over and the new avengers movie has already set a record.

the sun up early and setting before 8:00 tonight. so those days getting longer indeed. 53 san francisco, oakland, 54 mountain view and san jose and half moon bay and gilroy checking in at 47 and from sfo, looks a little bleak out there and some of these low clouds aloei allowing for gray and a little bit of sprinkle being able to ring out moisture and now and again throughout the morning hours, certainly a possibility. 44 santa rosa, it is 47 for you in napa and getting going in nevada 48 and 53 and livermore 50. the winds have been breezy and this morning starting out with winds from 15 to 25 mile an hour gust in the upper elevations, from 800 to 2,000 feet you're certainly feeling the breezy conditions. san rafael this morning, partly cloudy, partly sunny and isolated chance of a shower mainly through the morning hours. it will continue to be cool

today. temperatures just in the 60s for highs and so the range will be narrow, maybe a five-degree spread instead of the 15 degree spread we've been used to since last week or so when we warm up but not today and much warmer by the end of the week. your hour by hour forecast shows lots of cloud cover to start out. 7:00 and then through the early 9:00 hour, you can see couple of sprinkles being picked up here in the santa cruz mountains, mount diablo and some not being picked up underneath the radar but by the afternoon, 4:00, clouds decrease and we'll see more in the way of sun and should be a nice sunset tonight if you're spending time from san carlos, san mateo, belmont, notice mid 50s today to start out and then by noontime, just in the upper 50s, 62 for you about along the peninsula and you'll notice the partly cloudy skies. in the south bay today, cool, 65. san jose on the peninsula and we talked about that low 60s.

downtown 61 and shy of the average of 70 today in the north bay and low 60s in sonoma and 63 san leandro. you head inland and we'll see 65 today in pleasanton. if you're headed into the city for another giant's game. how about 60 at 2:05 and the accuweather seven-day forecast, today and tomorrow cool low to mid 60s with 50s on the coast. maybe a sprinkle through the early part of the day today. you download the accuweather app and you'll see increasing sun and warmth as we get towards the middle of the week. mid 70s inland and come toforfo along the coast and bay and by the end of the week above average. still cool for the next few days. >> what a change to the end of the week. thank you, lisa. just ahead, take a look at this guy, he really takes the term spring skiing to a whole new level.

welcome back. we're starting with a look at the weather. >> good morning. we've been looking at very pretty pictures and a live look outside. we have fog and sun coming up and temperatures. and 54 mountain view and on the coast and the coast has been pretty pleasant even though it

has been kind of cloudy it's been mild here in santa cruz. we're looking at temperatures near 50, cool day today in the 60s and mid 40s and 50 in livermore and the day looks like this at 7:ocho -- 7:00 still a lot of cloud cover but by 11:00, 60 and as we go through the afternoon, we're getting more sun but the winds kick up and temperatures stay down with 63 in concord and 62 mountain view and by 7:00, increasing with the clear skies but temperatures are cool, the rain is gone and we could see a few sprinkles early on. i'll detail in my coforecast in few minutes. >> for the second time, president trump skipped the white house correspondence dinner and attended a rally where he faced an energetic crowd of supporters. here is jenae norman.

their seats. >> they have a big responsibility, you know, with all those kids in the bus. so you got to try to save them all. >> well, the bus driver did just that but declined to be interviewed by local televiion stations. she summed it up by doing her job and protecting her passengers as if they were her own children. investigators are blaming an engine problem for that fire. it was supposed to be almost done but take one drive down season fran's van ness car door and you can tell all the construction is nowhere near finished. the project will convert the middle lanes into bus-only lanes in both directions from mission to lumbart street. jonathan bloom explains there has been another delay and the neighborhood is not too happy about it. >> reporter: from the beginning, city leaders said it was big. >> one of the most important transit projects in our city

and i cannot wait. >> they have to wait. the van ness improvement project to redo the street with new bus rapid transit hit a five-month delay. >> van ness is a very old street and unfortunately, we're finding a lot of things we didn't know were there and when we do find things we have to stop. >> reporter: workers uncovered utility lines. nobody knows if they are still being used. >> we don't know if it's safe to remove them or live gas or electric. >> reporter: so they have to dig around them by hand. >> our team will be working hard to limit annoyances from dust, dirt and noise. >> reporter: noise that will keep shaking the neighborhood. >> access to your favorite businesses will be maintained. >> reporter: as soon as they closed down the streets on van ness, our business dropped. >> tommy joint is a lunch-time favorite for 70 years but now. >> got it all blocked off and gates up, fences. >> reporter: even if you brave the chaos of traffic. >> the biggest complaint people said is they can't park here. they love tommy's joint and want to come and come more often but

trains and boats will be on display. there will be tricked out trucks and motorcycles and rides, a free style motorcycle stunt show. tickets are $30 at the door and the show runs from 10:00 until 4:00 today at the half moon bay airport. spend some time outdoors for prescription for parks day. the day celebrates the growing movement of per scrirescribing and nature to encourage everyone to visit parks. there will be a group bike ride, free health screenings and a lunch enrichment today. the vent runs from 11:00 until 2:00 at john f kennedy park at cutting boulevard and 41s street. i know i always feel better getting out in nature. >> totally. a little bit of sun out there. d and today should be a nice day. you can see the clouds here and certainly cool yesterday and today. we're still following that trend we'll call it partly cloudy.ons.

the a's and giants have a chance to win the weekend series today. oakland will try to rebound from yesterday's 11-0 drubbing by the astros. first pitch is at 11:10 this morning at minute maid park. the giants battle the dodgers at 2:05 after splitting a doubleheader yesterday. the warriors have a couple days off before facing the pelicans in game two of the western conference semi finals. the dubs blew out new orleans at oracle arena. mindy balk has the highlights. >> good morning, everyone. early saturday morning steve kerr decided stephon curry would not play in the opening game in the play-off series against the pelicans. a rested pelicans team and led by alvin gentry, currin's

harder. we know that. this was game one and we played well but we got to back it up now. >> the sharks had a lot of work to do. the vegas golden knights blew them out in game one and in game two, they took a 2-0 lead before san jose got it together. san jose did not have cane in this one. he was suspended for a game for a cross-check. vegas led 2-0 when joe pavelski wins the face-off. burns buries it. the score tied. pavelski wins the face-of and wraps around the net. sharks take the first lead of the series. but that score would stick until late in the third. vegas wins the face-off and schmidt. this game goes to over time and in o.t., jonathan thinks he has the game winner but the replay shows he interfered with jones so no goal. second over time and he can sense a pattern here.

the sharks win the draw on the power play. kevin leblanc freezes defense and logan couture scores his second goal of the game. that evens the series a game a piece with a 4-3 final in favor of the sharks. game three is monday at the tank. >> we skated and executed. we were stronger on pucks. we tried to stay above them and through the neutral zone. i think we did a better job in that. >> overall, our compete level is better and details are better. they played a good game and came down to the end in a few plays and it went our way. >> game one of the giants' dodgers doubleheader on saturday was a snooze fest until the ninth inning. that's when pablo sandoval took the mound. yes, you heard me correctly. pablo sandoval became the first position player to take the hill for the giants since 1991. the dodgers and the giants players got a chuckle out of this but didn't scuffle through it. he needed only 1 1 pitches to

below average in our valleys for this time of year and that means everyone, again, in the 60s. you can see the flag blowing here but we have certainly the pollen in the air. maybe that's affecting me but also clouds and sun this morning and breezy winds to round out the weekend. it's been pretty nice out there. certainly not too hard to take but not what we're used to but if you like it warmer, you have to wait several days for that. here is what we're expecting today from the east bay hills to the higher elevations of the peninsula and santa cruz mountains, a few areas of sprinkles. still in this cool unstable atmosphere where we're looking at perhaps some moisture being squeezed out in the lower levels. can't rule that out and as we widen the perspective, an area of circulation to the north and this is what we've been under the influence yesterday, the day before, today and even tomorrow. it's going to bring some snow down to about 6500 feet.

another system behind this one so yeah, we'll take any more precip we can get. san rafael nice shot and san jose and half moon bay remines mild from three to five degrees warmer this morning with all the cloud cover and breezy winds but check out the golden gate bridge. beautiful start to the day. 44 in santa rosa. we rung out precip and once again throughout perhaps the next few hours, we could see a sprinkle or two. fairfield 47 and concord 53 and 50 livermore. your hour by hour forecast shows a lot of cloud cover to start out. a little bit of green here and there. the forecast model really picking up on what we're seeing out there and this is 9:00, the next couple hours we could see that and then the clouds do decrease throughout the afternoon. we'll get more in the way of sun. it's going to have to warm us up not too much because as we look at the south bay numbers, upper 50s at 10:00, 60 by noontime and

look at the cloud cover. mid 60s by the afternoon and we should see about 71 in san jose and and shy of those averages. 65 on the peninsula and richmond and san rafael 64 and upper 50s to the coast. tonight, we will have a mixture of some fog around the coast but otherwise 40s and 50s. the accuweather seven-day forecast, temperatures still cool today and tomorrow below average 50s on the coast. mid 60s around the bay and inland is tuesday where we get slightly warmer, download the accuweather app and the warming really gets going by midweek and inland with numbers near 80 friday and a little cooler by saturday. so nothing too extreme but certainly a warmup on the way but not until about wednesday. >> this is what some people have been waiting for. >> i am one of them, i think, yeah. >> thanks, lisa. well, a mystery in sonoma
