live where you live, this is abc 7 news. >> police are working to solve a rare crime in the east bay city of albany tonight. a homicide one so brazen it took place in broad daylight. i'm eric thomas. >> i'm dion lim. residents nearby the running trail where this happened, they are shocked tonight. >> abc 7 news reporter kate ler-zen is live with the developments. >> reporter: police are looking for more witnesses hoping they'll come forward in the shooting death of a man this morning. they have not released the victim's name while they wait to speak to more relatives, but they do say it was shocking to this neighborhood. on a busy bike path where children play, a man was found

shot in broad daylight. >> very big surprise. this is a peaceful area. >> reporter: he lives in albany right across the street from where police discovered a man with a gun shot wound on a bench around 11:30 in the morning 37 he didn't hear any gun shots and couldn't believe the crime scene right outside his front door. according to city data.com before this homicide there had been only two murders in the past 15 years in albany, which explains the neighbors' surprise waking up to see the police taping off the roadway and blocks of houses nearby. >> you assume if it happened earlier someone would have found the body. >> reporter: they lived two blocks from the path for two decades. >> this is a common place, we come out and run here five days a week. >> i take the bike path every day. it seems like a really safe place.
