police dash cam video here police dash cam video here caught this high-speed chase of a suspected carjacker just outside orlando. at one point, the suspect nearly flipped a police car off the road. you can see it there. now the cops apprehended the driver, who was an underaged male and an alleged accomplice as well, an underaged female. and they found a handgun inside of the car. wild scene there. turning now to another wild scene, check out this video of man getting chased and dragged away by a lion at a wildlife park in south africa. >> we should warn you some of the video is a little tough to watch. but the victim who owns that park is alive, recovering, even smiling. and when you see how it all unfolded, it is cringe worthy.

>> help, help! >> reporter: disturbing and terrifying video. a wildlife park owner attacked by a lion in south africa. >> please! >> reporter: the owner mike hodge entering the enclosed area as he does when tourists visit. the lion, named shamba, calm at first, distracted by a member of the staff. but watch as shamba suddenly turns and runs after him. the 72-year-old tries to escape, but the lion is too quick. terrified tourists scream as shamba pins him to the gate before dragging him away. >> oh my god! >> shamba, shamba! >> is anybody getting a rifle? [ gunshots ] >> reporter: several shots are fired, the lion apparently put down in order to save his owner's life. miraculously, hodge survives the attack, recovering tonight with a broken jaw and several cuts. a spokesperson saying mike's recovery will be long and arduous. >> somebody help, please!

good good morning. i'm kendis gibson. >> and i'm diane macedo. here are some of the top headlines we're following this morning on "world news now." >> president trump may face a subpoena if he refuses to talk with federal prosecutors. now special counsel robert mueller reportedly raised the possibility during a tense meeting with the president's legal team. and president trump makes his first visit to the state department today to attend a formal swearing in ceremony for secretary of state mike pompeo. pompeo himself paid his first visit to the state department after returning from an overseas trip and laid out some of his goals. kanye west is backtracking from comments he made during a live interview with tmz suggesting that slavery in america was a choice. overnight he tweeted that he was referring to mental

imprisonment. and happy birthday to the empire state building. the new york city landmark all dressed in white to mark its 87th year. and those are just some of our top stories on this wednesday, march 2nd. >> from abc news, this is "world news now." >> good morning to you all. we begin this half hour with a threat of a subpoena hanging over the president's head. >> abc news has confirmed the "washington post" report that special counsel robert mueller warned president trump's legal team that he may issue a subpoena to compel the president to go before a grand jury. it's a really big deal there. and sources say the flare-up took place in early march as trump's attorneys resisted mueller's push to interview him. negotiations we're told are ongoing. but if they can't resolve the issue, it could end up in the supreme court. and deputy attorney general rod rosenstein is firing back at republicans who have been criticizing him for months,

largely related to his oversight of the russia investigation. rosenstein mocked the members of the conservative house freedom caucus who drafted a plan to impeach him saying they didn't have the courage to put their names on the document. he also made it clear threats won't work. >> the department of justice is not going to be extorted. we're going to do what's required by the rule of law. and any kind of threats that anybody makes are not going to affect the way we do our job. we have a responsibility. >> rosenstein said he has been threatened privately and publicly. he is under fire for refusing to turn over documents to lawmakers on a number of investigations, including the surveillance of a trump campaign adviser. >> we rarely hear from rosenstein. and during that speech, the first question they asked him, how do you pronounce your name? because you've heard it both ways, rosenstein, rosenstein. rosenstein it is. we move on, texas and six other states are suing the federal government, demanding an end to the daca program. the suit claims president obama

didn't have the authority to establish the program six years ago. daca protects young people who are brought to the u.s. illegally as children by their parents. president trump started to phase out the program last year, but federal courts have allowed it to continue. the new lawsuit only says that congress has the power to change the nation's immigration laws. and the center of the country is dealing with some dangerous weather right now. a storm system will bring strong wind, hail, possibly even tornadoes across the plains into the midwest. flash flooding is also possible. conditions in oklahoma were just right for at least one tornado, the first of the season. no damage or injuries reported. but this storm in kansas damaged at least one home. quite a scene there. wow. more strong storms could be on the way. accuweather's paul williams with the forecast. good morning, paul. >> good morning, kendis, diane. overall, we're watching out for damaging thunderstorms for wednesday, going into wednesday night with the possibility of tornadoes, damaging wind, hail,

and flash flooding. now this is going to cause complications along 35, des moines, kansas city, oklahoma city down towards dallas, i-20 going through dallas as well as i-40 going through oklahoma and the possibility of flash flooding. isolated thunderstorms also cause complications throughout central portions of iowa, going into southern portions of wisconsin, possibly even affecting the chicago area. and then in the southwest, we're looking for showers and thunderstorms in the four corners region with the low-pressure system going to slide through -- with the low pressure sliding through the region. generally much warmer weather is going to complicate matters r weesy into friday. watch out for severe weather to complicate things going into the weekend. kendis, diane? >> we don't like complication. >> and into the weekend? >> no, not at all. all right, our thanks to paul there at accuweather. the month of may started with protests all across the country. hundreds of peaceful mayday demonstrators turned out in seattle. they called for better rights for workers and immigrants. they also came out both for and against the president.

in the meantime, marchers in puerto rico clashed with police. you can see they fired tear gas there, and rubber bullets in response to some rock throwing demonstrators. now protesters are upset with the slow recovery from hurricane maria seven months ago as well as pension cuts on the island. officials in brazil's largest city say at least 50 families were living illegally in a high-rise building that collapsed as it was burning. witnesses say most of them got out before the building went down. but the search for possible survivors continues. abc's victor oquendo has more. >> reporter: it's the middle of the night when the fire erupts on the first floor, quickly consuming the entire high-rise. thick black smoke spews out, then this horrifying image. the building comes crashing down. the dramatic collapse captured by bystanders as fiery debris and smoke engulf surrounding streets. officials say at least 50 families were living inside the

24-story building in sao paulo, brazil's largest city. the former federal police headquarters had been abandoned and occupied by squatters. this man says he went knocking door to door shouting "fire." at least one man confirmed dead. the fire department said he was clinging to a rope, talking to firefighters, but the building collapsed before they could save him. a mother and her twin children are missing, and there could be more. the building still smoldering. rescuers seen going through the rubble in a desperate search for survivors. officials are still looking for a cause. rescuers say they won't use heavy equipment for at least three days with the hope of finding survivors. victor oquendo, abc news, miami. researchers say they have made a breakthrough in the early diagnosis of autism in children. a new study suggests measuring brain activity in infants as young as 3 months old could predict whether they'll develop the disorder. the study appears in scientific reports. the faa is cracking down on

vaping devices. federal authorities say they're issuing 13 warning letters to companying selling products like liquid nicotine and packaging that may appeal to children. it's hard to tell which is the real thing and which isn't, as you look at them side by side. the warnings come after more than 8,000 reports of children being poisoned by e-cigarettes being poisoned by e-cigarettes and liquid nicotine. a new survey by the cigna insurance company says loneliness is at epic levels among americans. the survey of more than 20,000 american adults find that nearly half say they are sometimes or always alone. nearly two in five consider themselves isolated. a third woman is now accusing nbc anchor tom brokaw of making unwanted sexual advances. freelance writer mary reynolds describes her encounter with brokaw in the villager newspaper. she says he kissed her after helping her with a story 50 years, she said the incident made her uncomfortable. brokaw has not commented but has

denied two other allegations. r. kelly has been repeatedly accused of sexual misconduct. >> hey, guys, you remember the outcry about harvey weinstein, kevin spacey, the list goes on. people are asking how does r. kelly still have a job? there is a slew of allegations of various kinds of sexual misconduct. some he was acquitted of and others he continues to deny. now big names, viola davis, shonda rhimes are pushing the #mute r. kelly. but when i spoke to joy marie kenzie, she said this hash tag is not new. why did it get restarted this week? >> it got restarted because of an open letter published in the root, a publication for people of color. and the letter is really calling for, quote, appropriate investigations into r. kelly. so they're not saying that r. kelly hasn't been held accountable. he was put on trial. he was acquitted. but they're saying that the most

well, now according to cnn, dr. harold bornstein now says trump dictated the entire letter, which describes his physical strength and stamina as extraordinary. bornstein also said trump's bodyguards showed up at his office last year and took the president's medical records in an incident that felt like a raid. but the white house insists it was standard operating procedure. >> okay. now to severe weather across the middle of the country.
