midnight july 7th. even though cleared to land on runway 28 right. it was cleared to land on a taxi way where several planes full of people were waiting to take off. the new video shows the landing lights illuminating the fuselage of one of four aircraft on the taxiway. it appears closer than previous videos of the incident. the air canada jet followed instructions to do a go around to abort the landing appear climb immediately. the ntsb took statements from the pilot andfers officer of air canada flight 759. the captain said as they approached something still felt odd. and he elected to go around. first officers matthew ma'amier told the ntsb if we could confirm the runway was clear. he looked up and expected to see the runway. when he looked up he couldn't understand what he was looking at. the first officer continued quote they thought they were 400 feet when they initiated the go around he was shocked at how low

mission. the plane was bound for arizona. the f.a. chl a is now investigating what caused a window to crack and southwest airlines plane today. a passenger took photo, flight 957 was heading to newark from chicago when forced to make emergency landing. none of the 73 passengers were hurt. this incident comes nearly three weeks after an engine on another southwest plane exploded blowing out a window on that flight. a woman was partially sucked out and killed. the pour of the pacific ocean revealed itself in pacifica when crews tried to recover a sailboat that washed up a few days ago. surf battered the worker while they tied ropes. they linked to a tug boat off of pacific state beach. the recovery plan called for pulling the boat back to deeper waters. easier said than done as you see in the video from sky 7 flying above the sailboat. the tug started pulling.

everything appears to be going fine a few seconds. and one side of that sailboat dips below the water line. and then starts to cap size. you can see one of the members of the crew onboard having to scramble up to the top of the cabin trying to get to safety because he doesn't want to go into the water. the tug pulse the partially submerged boat. and then the surf overwells. and it really sinks rapidly. two crew members clinging to the rails and each other. i mean, this is complete havoc right here. they needed to be rescued. holding on literally for dear life in the heavy surf. the good news is both had flotation devices and able to stay above the water. and then a coast guard boat rushed in to rescuer them. pacifica city official also work with the boat's owner to try to remove the wreckage. the suspect if the golden state killer case is expected become in court tomorrow.

dozens of high school students walked out of class today in the bay area in support of the second amendment, the right to bear arms. some of the schools participating in the protests today included montgomery high school in santa rosa, college park high in pleasant hill, downtown college precip in san jose and california high school in san ramon. abc 7 news reporter amy hollylandfield was there for the walkout. >> about 75 students walked out of california high school in san ramon this morning. not an unusual sight, especially in the bay area. but some parents were still shocked when they heard why they were walking out. >> wait, what?

>> yes. >> no, i didn't know this. i'm shocked. . i don't know what to say. >> these students are walking out in support of the second amendment. the right to bear arms. this comes just over a month after students across the country staged walk outs to take a stance against gun violence. >> the kids that have been walking out and represented in the media from the parkland -- like parkland survivors they don't represent our whole demographic. >> walkouts like this called stand for the second, are happening in at least 40 states today. the organizer in sam o san ramon saw the event and social media a week ago and decided to host one here. administrators just heard about it and got the word out to teachers and police. >> we're here and ready. and again, our role is to ensure that they're able to express their friedman of speech wells to make sure they're safe. >> the walkout was peaceful and hort. only 16 minutes. a few adults from the neighborhood came by to show

water use. >> city officials issued the warning out of caution that we can be in for another dry season. >> abc 7 news reporter chris wynn has the story from santa cruz. >> reporter: after a dry winter and spring across the state residents in santa cruz are concerned about potential for draut. they are doing their part to conserve. >> the small parts add up. >> this week, the city council issued a stage 1 water shortage in santa cruz with restrictions in place for the end of october including no landscape watering between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and no washing down surfaces such as sidewalks and driveways. restaurants will being told to serve water only upon request. >> we actually used a self-dispensing method so people can take precisely as much water as they want rather than always giving somebody a 16 ounce glass of water. >> the city's largest water source, the san lorenzo rifrg is

experiencing lower than normal levels and expected to dwindle in the coming months. although the main reservoir is full. officials want to avoid tapping that source unless absolutely necessary. >> with two thirds of average annual rainfall and one third of flow in the river it's another dry year. >>? san jose, the santa clara valley water district says the ten reservoirs are under 50% of capacity, below the norm for this time of year. as a precaution, customers are being asked to conserve water by 20% and limit outdoor watering to no more than three days per week. >> the fact that our ground water base isn't in good shape bodes well and means we don't need to move to the next level. >> back over the summit residents say the conservation will be part of the daily routine not knowing when the next draut could pit. kris wynn, abc 7 news. and the city of santa cruz will spend the next month educating residents on the water

distance there. but the fog hasn't made the push yet over the bay. it's 69 degrees up north in santa rosa. 64. at napa. and 70 at livermore. and here is a view from mount ta machinist m looking to the bay. we have clouds at various levels of the atmosphere but it's mainly clear. these the forecast features. we see the fog forcefully inland during the overnight. we have mild sunny days through the weekend generally speaking with only a few minor temperature fluctuations going into next we can. mild to warm days generally with temperatures going up a couple of degrees and one day and down a couple degrees the next. this is how it looks during the early morning hours, lots of fog over the by. and into the inland valleys as he will pl overnight lows mainly in the mid to upper 40s to around 50. and visibility will be low tomorrow morning in the early morning compute. now here is the alignment of weather systems that's producing the weather we have right now. we have a krerpt of low pressure

inlandland, a center of high pressure offshore. this is producing an on shore flow of cool marine air. we have water temperatures right now coastal waters mainly between 53 and 56 degrees. and the winds are steady on shore. not gusty but breezy out there with surface wind right now ranging from anywhere from 14 to 18-mile-per-hour. so it does feel breezy. but no powerful gusts. 12-hour day planner will start with lingering low clouds in the early morning. by noon we see sunnier skies except fog at the coast. that's the picture at 4:00 in the afternoon as well. but milder by that time of day with highs in the 70s. temperatures in the 70s in the inland areas and 70 around the bay. highs tomorrow. 66 in oakland. 69 if fremont. 74 in san jose. 72 up north at santa rosa. and the accuweather seven-day forecast, once again i point out there won't be much change in

the san francisco department of the environment is officially launch agnew campaign to make sure you know how to properly get rid of batteries. joining me is peter galleda. thank you for joining me with the san francisco department of the virmt. we love guests bringing props. you have batteries. >> i do. >> you have a little bucket. tell me the concern. >> batteries are a hazardous material. in california it's illegal for batteries to be disposed of in the landfill. batteries never belong in the black trash bin or the recycling or kpofting bin. batteries can have toxic chemicals that leech into soil or water and be fire hazards pef we have had a number of of waste facilities experience fires

because batteries were disposed of improperly. it's a potential hazard for workers at the facilities. >> we have a bunch of old batteries here. what do i do in san francisco let's say for now we'll talk about that to try to dispose of them. >> we want to beat battery waste in san francisco. >> right. >> we have launched a new campaign to inform residents but who to properly recycle. bucket or bin top. that's what we want residents to remember. you can put the batteries, old batteries into a clear, sealed bag and place it on top of your black trash bin. >> okay. >> and then put it on the collection day. or you can throw them into one of these orange collection buckets if you find one in your apartment building. it's just that easy. >> so are these readily visible? i mean, if you have a single family home you probably don't have this, right. >> that's right. you can dispose of it through the bin top sfl okay. >> if you're in a large apartment building when i walk in there is one of these in the

lobby. i can dispose of it any time. most apartment building in san francisco have these. if not we can bring one to your apartmentabling-free of charge. >> okay. this works for san francisco. i live in the east bay. so what do you advise. >> again, batteries never belong in the trash bin. >> okay. >> we ask you to check with the local waste collection provider. you can visit recycle where.org for information about where to take batteries in the bay area. >> what would they recommend we do? put it on top of a bin or what do you think? >> you either could do that or they might have you bring it back to a collection site, either to a household hazardous waste facility or a retailer that takes the batteries back. >> how big of a problem is this in the city of san francisco? >> well, we know that sfriskens purchase about 17 million batteries every year. and we know that there were collected 70 tons of batteries last year. there were a lot of batteries

i'm kristen sze. this happened back in july and abc 7 news reporter david louie has the details from the airport. david? >> reporter: well abc kristen and dan, this is frightening video the national transportation safety board released today. this video provides a different perspective and frightening one how lucky hundreds of passengers were while waiting for air canada flight 759 to land to they could take off. a united 787 was within feets of being crushed by a 72-ton aircraft. this new video was shot by an airport surveillance camera and shows the flight 759 missing one of four commercial jets setting on a taxiway by feet. it's a chilling look at how close hundreds of passenger waiting for takeoff could have been victims. flight 759 has been cleared by the tower to land on runway 28
