>> reporter: 26-year-old daniel mooney is identified by police as the killer, the killer of 27-year-old tyler roy, a construction estimator and his 28-year-old wife christina, a professional photographer. professionals say a man fitting mooney's description, a man with a history of drugs was found unconscious overnight in the 3000 block of roof in kensington. he was pronounced dead at the hospital of a drug overdose. >> working with our detectives and the police department we quickly identified that individual as being mr. mooney. >> reporter: moon any is believed to be the person who shot and stabbed the couple to death. the reason? >> it's difficult to say what this was about. it's obvious that the suspect has struggled with drug addiction issues over the last time.

>> reporter: mooney's believed to have entered the home through an unlocked door. the victims were on the verge of starting their new lives married. >> they were building a life for themselves that they would have been very, very productive members of bucks county society. >> reporter: the victims' family asked for privacy. mooney has also been tied to an auto theft on monday. well, police in indianapolis are searching for several drivers who happened to be in the right place right time. but ended up doing the wrong thing, apparently. >> this was the scene after the back doors of an armored truck swung only, spilling piles and piles of cash. >> raining on the highway. >> pretty much. many drivers jumped out of their cars to help collect it. >> that's nice. >> while some people gave the money to police, others maybe forget. >> uh-huh. i would have been there. police say anyone who calls them

good morning. >> here are some of the top headlines we're going. rudy guiliani drops a bombshell, saying the president paid back attorney michael cohen for the $130,000 he gave to porn star stormy daniels. but the president has denied knowing anything about that payment. we have breaking details coming up. police are investigating the explosion of a barn next to a home in connecticut during a police standoff where a man was reportedly holding his wife hostage. up to eight police officers suffered minor injuries. we're told the wife is ok but no word on the suspect. gusting winds, rain, and tornadoes. 20 confirmed tornadoes have touched down in kansas and oklahoma.

the wind in chicago ripped the roof right off a four-story apartment building. the boy scouts of america is changing their name. the scouts bsa is making a change as it allows girls in to its organization. those are some of our top stories on thursday, may 3rd. we begin in with the stunning admission from one of the president's top lawyers. giuliani now says president trump repaid the money used to pay stormy daniels. >> as you know, rudy guiliani recently joined the president's legal team. here he is on fox news saying that trump funneled the $130,000 to the attorney there, michael cohen, through a law firm. he insists the payment to keep daniels quiet about an alleged affair with the president was perfectly legal. >> the $130,000 payment, the settlement payment, this which

regular thing for lawyers to do, the only possible violation there, was it a campaign finance violation. which usually results in a fine by the way, not being stormtroopers coming in and breaking down his apartment and office. that was money that was paid by his lawyer, the way i would do out of his law firm funds or whatever funds, doesn't matter. and the president reimbursed it over a period of several months. >> the president had previously denied knowing anything about the payment. and cohen claimed it came from his own pocket and that he was never reimbursed. >> so that was a stunning revelation that was made when he went off topic a little bit when answering a question about the russia investigation. the interview took place hours after the reshuffling of the legal team. >> jonathan karl has more. >> reporter: when we first asked, the president was adamant, he'd be more than happy to talk to special counsel robert mueller.

>> would you be willing to speak under ooet? >> 100%. >> reporter: but now a tense standoff, so tense abc news has confirmed mueller told the president's lawyers he could compel the president to testify. raising the possibility of a subpoena. john dowd, until recently the president's lead lawyer tells abc news he fired back, responding "this isn't some game. you are screwing with the work of the president of the united states." dowd has since left the president's legal team and another shakeup. out, ty cobb, the lead white house lawyer dealing with the special counsel, replaced by emit flood, who was one of president clinton's lawyers. >> almost everything that i was brought on to do has been accomplished. >> reporter: cobb employed a strategy of patience. >> cooperation was the right move and definitely the path

that would lead to the quickest resolution. so i hope that they're able to work something out. >> reporter: if special counsel tries to compel the president to testify, it's a battle that would likely go all the we to the supreme court and would be very difficult to win. when richard next sixon tried t fight a subpoena, he lost. so now they are trying to limit the time and scope of any interview with the special counsel, also saying that they would like to note questions in advance. jonathan karl, abc news, the white house. prosecutors and judges are headed to the u.s.-mexico border to deal with the backlog of immigration cases. the justice department says the backlog was worsened with the recent arrival of the so-called caravan. jeff sessions says it is a move as part of a zero tolerance on illegal border crossing.

luawmakers in iowa has blocked the so-called fetal heart bill. critics are slamming the bill saying that at six weeks most women don't know she's pregnant yet. the governor isn't saying if she plans to sign the legislation. police across the country are calling for an end to what they're calling paintball wars. they're being blamed for two deaths and growing injuries. >> the growing use of the paintball guns was actually started to reduce gun violence. blad brad melky tells us what went wrong. >> reporter: this started in atlanta when a rapper, 21 savage appealed to people to put down their guns and pick up paintball guns instead. well, that message seems to have backfired in cities across the country right now, you're more likely to get in the crossfire of huge paintball wars which can injure people or worse. i spoke with a reporter in

watch this. this video just in of an explosion at a jewish festival in london. dozens of people have been injured. it happened when a rabbi attempted to light a bonfire. there's speculation that a smartphone placed in the fire triggered that blast. we're learning new details about the air national guard air cargo plane that went down moments after taking off in savannah, georgia. >> the plane's most recent maintenance was performed last month. it was 60 years old. all nine people on board were killed.

a usually busy road where the plane crashed is closed for weeks as investigators try to determine what went wrong. and we see the lights of a small plane going down near phoenix. it crashed last month on to a golf course and exploded. we're just getting this video now. the six people aboard did not survive. the cause of the crash remains under investigation. two black men arrested for sitting inside a starbucks have reached a settlement with both starbucks and the city of philadelphia. >> they've agreed to a $1 payment each from the city and an undisclosed sum from starbucks. here's the story. >> i think it's the best thing for everyone. >> reporter: the mayor referring to the agreement between the city and the young black men who were taken into custody april 12th for trespassing as they were waiting for a business meeting at this center city starbucks. instead of a lawsuit, the pair has agreed to take a payment of $1 each from the city.

also breaking overnight, an explosion that injured at least eight officers in connecticut. >> officers were engaged in a standoff with a suspect when a barn exploded. it happened near a home where the suspect was apparently holding his wife hostage for three days. she managed to escape before the explosion. the officers' injuries are said to be minor. no word on the condition of the suspect or whereabouts. to georgia. in this scene outside the savannah airport where an air national guard cargo plane slammed into a busy road. none of the nine on board survived. the debris field stretches about 600 feet. investigators are starting their work to find out what caused all of this to happen. abc news steve osunsami is on the scene. >> reporter: this is a military c-1230 falling out of the sky, nosedived to the ground.

airplane dropped out of the sky on a bright sunny day, they're going to be looking at mechanical problems. this is a real mystery that something so reliable could have had such a catastrophic ending. >> reporter: the plane belongs to the puerto rico national guard. and was a lifeline to the caribbean during last year's devastating hurricane season, delivering food and generators to families in need. authorities are working to make this area safe for investigators. just to give you an idea of the lay of the land, behind me is the crash site. to my right is a gas station. had this plane fallen a few feet in a different direction we could be talking about an even bigger explosion. steve osunsami, abc news, georgia. >> all right. thanks, steve. southwest airlines in the meantime says a window that cracked mid flight was just inspected last month. passengers said they heard a pop and saw this jagged crack in the window. it's not what you want to see on board. their chicago-to-newark flight landed safely in cleveland.
