these talks come a week after north korea's kim jong-un met with south korea's moon jae-in. they are seen as a further attempt to soften the image of north korea. they's speculation that the men could be released sooner rather than later, those detainees. we're watching the story closely as it develops. last night president trump tweeted about the detained men, hinting they may win their release very soon. back to you guys. >> thank you, jessica. if you're just joining us, a quick update on weather and traffic where you live starting with meteorologist mike nicco. >> how are you doing trying to get out of bed under this cloudy and cool morning. here is a look from the exploratorium. you can see the blanket of marine layer, clouds will be around all the way through 7:00. temperatures upper 40s to low 50s. mid 50s along the coast today with about as much sunshine as we had yesterday.

have come as close as ten feet from hitting a philippines airline jet. it was last summer when the air canada crew received permission to land on a runway. instead the jet flew right towards a taxi way. the landing lights illuminate a jet on the taxiway. a pilot is incredulous. >> he's on the taxiway. >> looks like you are lined up for charley. >> air canada flew directly over us. >> the air canada flight aborted the landing after being ordered to go around. the ntsb has not issued its final report. >> it's unbelievable. the faa says three other close calls were due to pilot error. in december of 2016, a sky west pilot turned onto the wrong taxiway stopping just short of where a united airlines jet was

taking off. in october an air canada landed despite several instructions to abort. in january, an arrow mexico crew needed to abort a landing when it descended to a runway being used by another jet. a victim fought offer her attacker while she tried to get inside a door. this attack happened early sunday morning at channing way and college avenue. the man appeared to have a gun in his left hand. the woman finally got away from him. if you recognize that man, campus police certainly want to hear from you. to a bombshell admission involving president trump. former new york city mayor rudy giuliani told fox news the president reimbursed his attorney michael cohen for the $130,000 paid to porn star stormy daniels. >> reporter: a shocking admission from the president's own lawyer. >> the president repaid it. >> reporter: on fox news, the

president's long time supporter and new defense lawyer rudy giuliani claimed mr. trump repaid his former lawyer michael cohen for the $130,000 payment to porn star stormy daniels made as part of a non-disclosure agreement stemming from her alleged decade old affair. >> he didn't know about the specifics of it as far as i know. but he did know about the general arrangement. >> reporter: that claim seems to contradict the president's own statement. >> did you know about the $130,000 payment to stormy daniels? >> no, no. >> reporter: cohen said he facilitated the payment made with a personal home equity line. neither the trump campaign or the trump organization were involved. giuliani claimed the payment was perfectly legal. >> it's not campaign money. to campaign finance violation. >> reporter: the white house has yet to respond to any request for comment. but the big legal question was was the payment made for personal reasons which was not constitute a crime, or was it made to help get mr. trump

elected which could be considered an illegal campaign contribution. serena marshal, nbc news, washington. president trump is responding to giuliani's bombshell. he said the agreement with stormy daniels was to stop her affair accusations. the president also said he intends to pursue damages against stormy daniels. the sonoma county sheriff's office needs your help to find two men responsible for a terrifying home invasion robbery. they tied up a man and stole marijuana. the robbers stormed the home on primrose court in unincorporated santa rosa yesterday morning. investigators say one came through the front door, the other through the back. at least one pulled out a handgun. that's when they tied up a man inside. the robbers then stole an undetermined amount of marijuana and left in a newer model gray van. nobody got hurt. a photographer is searching for stolen memories after someone broke into his truck in oakland. he says the thief took wedding photos and photography equipment after smashing his truck's

window. it happened last saturday on skyline boulevard. he says he just wants the camera's memory card back, no questions asked, so he can give a couple their wedding photos he took earlier on on the day of the theft. this morning facebook is agreeing to two independent audits, one to determine how the company treats underrepresented communities, the other to see if facebook has a liberal bias. form ir arizona senator john kuhl will look into the liberal bias. facebook says the independent surveys will help it improve and serve users more officially. 110 oakland schools will get new water fountains to replace older fountains containing led. the new water fountains should be installed over the summer. you're never more than seven

. let's jump right in by talking about the state today. we'll have wall to wall sunshine this afternoon and warm are temperatures, from the upper 70s to mid 80s through the central valley. sacramento 79. press know 84. nearly 90 in palm springs. 72 in yosemite today. 65 in tahoe. that's one of the cooler days. we could hit the 70s early next week. >> now a live desk update from abc 7 mornings. >> back at the live desk, an update on an explosion overnight in connecticut that left eight police officers hurt. right now still an active scene there. the blast happened in north haven after a possible hostage situation there.u c see those ie officers. they were responding to a home where a man reportedly barricaded himself and a woman inside for at least three days holding that woman hostage. a s.w.a.t. team was called in to clear the location, make contact with that suspect when suddenly the home burst into flames.

the good news here is all eight of the officers are expected to survive. they have non-life-threatening injuries. the wife was able to escape the explosion. although right now it's still on going. it's unclear if that suspect is in custody. >> jessica, thank you. san francisco's police chief will neither confirm nor deny that he's applied to the l.a.'s top cop. chief william scott is one of many candidates interviewing for the position. >> reporter: san francisco police chief wouldn't answer the question, whether he applied to be lapd's next chief. >> what i'm saying is what i've been saying, we have to be focused on this job. a lot of work to get in place, property crime we're making good progress on. >> "the l.a. times" reported that scott is one of 31 people who applied for the lapd job.

l.a.'s current top cop charley beck is retiring next month. scott served as an lapd deputy chief prior to swearing in in 2016. since then speculation is that scott is a short timer eager to get back to l.a. despite making comments to the contrary in an exclusive interview with abc 7 the day he was announced as chief. >> i'm a man of my word, first and foremost. the mayor, the police commission have the confidence that i'll come here and give it my all. >> if he leaves, at least one commissioner will be sorry to see him go. >> he's been an open, thoughtful and receptive chief. >> reporter: scott reportedly advanced in the selection process, among the candidates scheduled to be interview. bart says it's trying to cleechb up one of its san francisco stations after the

video showed ram pachbt drug use and went viral. the video was taken by a b.a.r.t. commuter. i shoe shows what a lot of us have seen on b.a.r.t., drug addicts shooting up as you walk through the hallways, other people slumped over and unconscious amid pools of vomit. b.a.r.t. says it was taken early in the morning when civic center station just opened when officers were on a shift change. >> the addicts obviously learned the patterns of our officers. we're making changes to the shift patterns, the shift changes. we're not going to publicize those. suffice it to say we've made changes to close that window. >> b.a.r.t. has hired nearly two dozen knew cleaners and they plan to bring in more janitors and community service officers to patrol downtown san francisco stations. happening today, levi's is giving back to north bay communities dhef stated by last october's wildfires.

900 employees will fan out donating time and expertise to a number of tasks. those include clearing open spaces and helping fill out paperwork for housing and financial assistance. since last october, levi's has donated more than $300,000 to fire victims. expedia is out with its airplane, hotel and etiquette survey ranking the worst people to fly with. 51% of those surveyed said seat kickers were the worst passengers to encounter during a flight. other frustrations include the aromatic passenger. i think you can fill in the blanks there, the inattentive parent, personal space violators and the audio insensitive. going barefoot on a flight was also universally despised by more than 90% of the people who took the survey. the problem is the 10% that didn't have a problem with it. >> what about if you're wearing socks?

it was caught on video. take a look. investigators say the suspect grabbed the laptop from a customer at cafe strada on college avenue on monday. you can see the two good samaritans trying to hold him until police get there. all of a sudden, a second man punches one of the good samaritans in the head causing him to let go and the two men did run off into a newer model blue chevy impala. this weekend on the peninsula you can turn in your gun and get cash no questions asked. a gun buy-back event is happening on saturday. anyone who surrenders a handgun, shotgun or rifle will get up to $100. assault weapons up to $200. the agency that runs muni is getting a new logo. >> we're all familiar with the red one spelling muni if you squint really hard.
