90 minutes ago the marin county sheriff wet out an active sheert. >> there is heavy police activity near 101 in mill valley. dion lim arrived on the scene and joins with us the latest. dion. >> reporter: boy, dan and ama good evening, things are busy around here in the 800, 900 area blocks of east blight dale even though the sh shelter in place was lifted moments ago. you can see multiple agencies on the scene with the s.w.a.t. team that entered the one street approaching the apartment complex where this happened this afternoon. and i can tell you we heard from the marin county sheriffs minutes ago. and they told us yes the suspect is an 80-year-old man considered armed and dangerous and his victims include a man and a woman who have since been taken to the hospital. the perimeter has been secured. however we have not been told exactly where the perimeter lies. but i can tell you i have been able to speak to several people

who live nearby in an adjacent apartment complex and also i spoke with a man whose 1 and a half-year-old son is at a nearby day care. can you only imagine the emotions he felt we he heard the news. >> i drove as fast as i could and got as close as i could. i talked to a couple of people that said they're safe. but until the tape goes down and you have them in your arms you don't know. >> back out here live tensions of course still high. the good news moments ago i spoke with that man and his wife. and good news is their 1 and a half-year-old son everett is back safe with them. the students, the children at that day care are still safe. but once again, still a very active scene. multiple police crews still working this along with overhead presence from helicopters. we will keep you posted on the latest. but once again, armed and dangerous, this suspect an 80-year-old man described as hispanic or possibly philippine

says river aire drove prasad away. >> now prasad says he is looking forward to his day in court. both he and rivera are scheduled to appear in court next tuesday. kate larson, back to you in the studio. >> thanks a lot. a fire on an east bay freeway turned heads this afternoon. one abc 7 news viewer shot this video as he drove by the flaming shut on southbound 880. the fire was reported after 3:00 p.m. near the fifth street on ramp. the truck made it to the shoulder. another viewer took pictures showing the flames and smoke rising high in the air as you see. we did see the chp on the scene in the first video. no word on whether anyone was hurt inside the truck. >> a citizens panel reviewing police shootings in richmond decided a officer used excessive force in the killing of a 24-year-old man. >> the family of richard perez says after four years they are getting justice. abc 7 news anchor eric thomas

public schools are long relied on the generosity of their commune. one restaurant owner has dpon beyond her civic duty helping to raise $1 million for schools in san francisco and san jose. and they have done it one taco at a time. no kidding. abc 7 news reporter lyanne melendez explains how. >> reporter: who would have thought that selling tacos could help feed the mind of hundreds of students. sarah des rein and her husband are the owners of tack or lishs restaurants. in san francisco san jose within palo alto. the parents of public school kids, they came up with the formula for giving.

>> so from september to may we give 15% of the month's worth of monday proceeds to that school. >> for example, the taco lishs strunt in the mission district of san francisco supports 9 schools in that specific community. every month one of the nine schools gets the funds. this month, they will cut a check to mission high school. >> if we can raise 15% of monday proceeds for a whole month's time that check gets a check 3 to $5,000. if you luck out and it's cinco de mayo you get a lot. >> they have restaurants in the north beach districts. that's 18 more schools getting funded. one of the schools that benefitted from one of the taco restaurants is garfield elementary. now let's go inside to see what they have received. garfield's used its money to buy classroom ipads and chrome books for the third to fifth graders.
