planner. temperatures 49 to 54 at 7:00. warmer for the bay neighborhood, look at our inland neighborhoods 72 at noon to 80 at 4:00. let me give way to alexander alexander and see what's going on with the morning commute. >> taking a look at things at the bay bridge toll plaza. we have -- actually i think we're trying to pull that up right now. hopefully -- no metering lights yet. that should happen around 5:20 this morning. we definitely need the get more toll booths open for folks paying cash. that has been like that since we went on the air about 4:30. drive times looking good. this is our longest one, the slowest one so far this morning, westbound 580 tracy to castro valley, one hour. highway 85 to san jose airport,

about ten minutes. northbound 1 to san francisco on 280, in the green at nine minutes. a home invasion where a police officer fired toward the suspect. >> it happened at a downtown apartment complex. abc 7's matt keller live in san jose. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning. this could have been a lot worse than it was. shots were fired, but no one, not a suspect or an officer was injured in this confrontation. take a look at the video from the scene. this took place on sunday morning. police responded to a home invasion robbery at an apartment complex on east william and south 9th streets in san jose around 7:00. a sergeant told our media partner, the mercury news, two suspects were detained inside a police perimeter. juvenile was arrested almost immediately. the other suspect was armed with a gun and did not obey commands. the officer shot at him and missed. the suspect never fired his

weapon. chief eddy garcia will talk about it at police headquarters this afternoon at 3:00. matt keller, abc 7 news. i have been tracking things in hawaii this morning for you, and i want to show you this new video. it's incredible. it shows lava shooting hundreds of feet into the air in a residential neighborhood. new numbers overnight show that 31 buildings were destroyed and at least 26 of those are homes. the eruptions are showing no signs of slowing down at this point. a bay area native living on the big island is one of hundreds concerned about when or if they'll be able to return back home. abc 7 news reporter lillian kim has more. >> reporter: from the ground you can hear lava spewing and see it soaring 300 feet high. from the air, you can see the flow smogtering everything in its path. roughly 1800 people forced to flee their homes. >> all we can do is try to stay

positive and think maybe our house will be spared. >> reporter: linda watson is a bay area native who moved to the big island seven years ago. she's an artist who created many volcano-inspired works. never did she imagine her life would be put on hold by what's going on now. >> a lot of people in social media are criticizing all of us saying, what do they expect, they live on a volcano? i was living on san andreas fault. >> reporter: the instability of kilauea volcano began monday when a lava-filled crater collapsed in addition to lava on the ground, toxic sulfur dioxide is at lethal concentrations. >> no signs of slowing down. we had pauses yesterday. seems like there's a lot of magna under the ground. >> reporter: no telling how long it will continue. tourism officials are emphasizing that the threat is in a remote part of the island,

about 100 miles away from the resort areas. lillian kim, abc 7 news. a new honor for the late san francisco mayor ed lee. there was a magnolia tree planted near sit hi hall on lee's birthday. one of the shovels was made from melted down guns, a fitting tribute to lee because he worked with violence prevention organization to more than 100 guns were turned in. they were melted down to make one of the shovels. the man accused of opening fire on customers and employees at a tennessee waffle house is scheduled to r appear in court. >> four people died. four others were hurt including a man who wrestled the rifle away from him. he's being held without bond. the mother of one of the waffle house victims accepted her daughter's college diploma. cheryl baker walked the stage on

saturday to applause and a standing ovation. her 21-year-old daughter dee ebony groves majored in social work before she died. her brother also graduated during that same ceremony. the university's alumni association has established a scholarship in her name. a motorcyclist is dead after crashing into a napa county fire truck. you can see where this happened on highway 128 near lake hennessy. investigators say the motorcyclist lost control and hit the fire truck that was traveling in the opposite direction. the identity of the victim has not been released. two people are hurt after a tractor-trailer and a van veered off i-580 near castro valley. that crash happened yesterday at the eden canyon road on-ramp. the van collided with the big rig hauling goods for safeway. both vehicles went down an embankment and overturned. fuel began to leak which triggered response from the hazmat team. the two drivers were taken to

the hospital. pg&e appears to be doubling down on its commitment to education. today the company will announce plans to give $1 million to the oakland promise program. the money will support oakland students in college, technical schools and vocational programs. pg&e says this is in addition to the $1 million it already contributes to college scholarships through oakland promise. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. san ramon, pleasanton, livermore, upper 40s. everyone else in the low 50s as you head through the san ramon valley. highway o 4 we have mid to upper 50s. you'll be in the warmer spots. low to mid 50s no matter which side of the bayshore you are on all the way down to san jose. 57 up in the hills in los gatos. if you're in novato, san jose or santa rosa, temperatures 45 to 46 degrees.

part of san francisco, northbound 101 impacting the off-ramp to third street. a two-car crash. one of the vehicles involved lost its front wheel. they're waiting for the tow truck to arrive on the scene. if you're heading into san francisco, that's fine. 280 is wide open. the san mateo bridge, westbound 92 not seeing any issues here. we have relatively light volumes all around the bay area. we'll take a mass transit coming up at 5:30. >> talk about a vacation ruined. this is not what passengers on carnival wanted to see. the fire sprinklers broke on thursday flooding 50 rooms and the hallway on the ninth deck. passengers say they were actually impressed with how carnival handled the situation. crew members got straight to work clearing out the water. carnival refunded the passengers, gave them half off the next cruise and offered to fly them home early. >> one of the passengers said it

>> you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. let's head down to the south bay where you can see already early signs of a sunny sky that's going to develop today. san jose at 280 and 17. here are my accuweather forecast highlights. warmer today, all neighborhoods, even the coast will be sunny. becoming part of the clouds tonight, a mid-week cooling. this weekend could be even warmer the way it's looking right now than today's temperatures. today's temperatures about ten degrees above average. you have friends around the country, look how quiet it is. so active last week. 30, 40 tornadoes and you see a lot of green on the map. you don't see yellows, oranges, purples or reds. that's good. have a safe flight. let's talk about what's going on at home. low to mid 60s around san francisco. downtown, 67 degrees there. daly city is about 61. balboa park and richmond about 64 degrees. over on the other side, 72 today.

what an awesome afternoon in oakland, hayward, san leandro, castro valley. all 72 degrees. 70 in san mateo, pacifica 63 degrees. 78 with tons of sunshine in san jose. just about everybody in the 70s. gilroy 82 degrees. head up to the north bay, 80 in santa rosa and napa. everybody else in the mid to upper 70s. sausalito nice at 68 degrees. our last stop will be our inland east bay neighborhoods where everybody is in the low to mid 80s. here is my accuweather seven-day forecast, more morning clouds and cooler weather to hit the coast and bay tomorrow, spread inland by wednesday and rebound to temperatures even warmer than what we're going to do today with a whole lot of sunshine. here is alexis. >> taking a look at the roads this morning. we have had a handful of issues, none of them major. an update on the situation on state route 4. initially have a collision

reported on the eastbound side of hillcrest. they've updated the location to the westbound side past state route 160. everything on the shoulder. a smaller vehicle and a tanker truck got tangled up and went down into the ravine. so far, so good for mass transit. we don't have any issues at the moment. we have a new schedule that takes effect for capital cordon, 529 will be leaving five minutes earlier. five minutes later for departures for both trains 536 and 724. a children's boss center seat is being recalled over concerns it could actually hurt a child in a crash. harmony juvenile products is recalling near 150,000 big boost deluxe seats. the national traffic highway safety administration says the crash could cause the seatbelt to put excessive force on a child's chest and that could increase a chance of an skbrir. the company is still working a fix for the problem. we have a link with more information on our website,

880. next traffic update right around 5:40. new overnight, a shooting at a church of all places in san francisco's mission district and police responded to the first samoan congregational church just after two men were shot overnight. investigators blocked off part of 26th street near guerrero with crime scene tape around midnight. they've been looking in the area for any evidence throughout the night. police say the victims are expected to recover from their injuries, but no word on exactly what led up to the shooting. as soon as we get an update, i'll pass that along. daly city police arrested two men suspected of opening fire at a bowling alley. [ gunshots ]. >> oh, my goodness. >> this cell phone video caught gunshots being fired and people screaming at classic bowling center at king drive. on saturday, police arrested two

suspects. one of them from oakley, the other from vallejo. the shooting left one man in critical condition. nobody else was hurt. early voting begins for the june 5th california primary. in san francisco the city hall voting center opens at 8:00 a.m. registered voters will receive a vote by mail ballot. ballots must be post parked on or before june 5th. if you haven't registered yet, the deadline is may 21st. . happening right now, a massive strike is underway that could impact medical care at ucsf 300 surgeries canceled. >> more than 50,000 workers walking off the job across uc medical facilities. abc's amy hollyfield live at ucsf's par nas sis campus. >> reporter: you will see this across the state. 9,000 workers in contract negotiations with the hospital are walking out. they will be joined by 15,000

workers whose sympathize with their cause. the hospital has brought in replacement workers, but they have canceled thousands of appointments. we talked to the union about the strike and the hospital about its preparations. >> the biggest issues on the table are, there's a rising income, racial and gender inequality, both within their unit, but within uc more generally. a lot of it is being driven by the outsourcing of jobs. >> all these are very massive disruptions that are taking place and we have to be ready for what is still remaining, which is some ambulatory services will continue. we need to be ready to provide care as safely to all who come through our door. >> reporter: this is a three-day-long strike happening at five medical centers across the state and ten uc campuses. the hospital says check with your service provider before heading over this way for the next few days to make sure your

appointment is still on and hasn't been canceled. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. san jose went three months without a homicide until this weekend. police found a man shot near story road and jackson avenue just after midnight yesterday. he died at the scene. police haven't said anything about a possible motive or a suspect yet. this is the city's seventh homicide this year. >> another round of cleanup duty for president trump's attorney rudy giuliani. >> he revealed mr. trump repaid his personal attorney for the $130,000 hush payment to stormy daniels. giuliani spoke to george stephanopoulos on abc's "this week." he says he's not actually aware of when the president learn about the payment to daniels. >> when did the president learn about the payments? >> i don't know when the president learned about it. >> did he make payments to other women for the president? >> i have no knowledge of that. i would think if it was

necessary, yes. >> giuliani accused special counsel robert mueller of trying to trap the president. giuliani said if the president is subpoenaed to testify, he may not comply. first lady melania trump is expected to announce her policy initiatives focused on children. a spokeswoman says she will address multiple issues ranging from cyber bullying to opioid abuse. the first lady is taking a more independent role apart from her husband. a long-time friend of the president told "the post" the couple spends little time together especially after the stormy daniels scandal came to light. the report says they have separate schedules, bedrooms and priorities. california republicans are denouncing a self-proclaimed neo-nazi running for u.s. senate as a republican. patrick little posted this video after getting ejected from the republican convention. he's seen standing on an israeli

flag, at one point he spits on it. youtube has removed many of his clips because of their offensive nature. he's running against democratic senator dianne feinstein. a recent poll by survey usa put him in second place with 18% of the vote. >> mr. little cannot win here in california, but what he can do is use the number two position for a platform to raise his anti-semitic profile. >> californa's rnc tells abc 7 news little has no support in the california gop. he did not respond to our request for an interview. new this morning, look at this crash. a southwest airlines plane arriving in baltimore was hit by a pickup truck at the airport and take a look here, you can see the damage on the plane. it's a picture from our abc station in washington, d.c. this is at the baltimore washington international airport. it happened about midnight eastern time.

the flight was coming in from ft. lauderdale, florida. a passenger on the flight was able to tell our abc station there there were no injuries on the flight. the plane was stopped at the runway when this crash happened. there were 172 people on board the plane. the truck is part of the airport's ground crew. no word on exactly how this happened. another plane forced to make an energy landing, a jetblue flight with a broken windshield. the plane was flying from puerto rico to tampa, florida, diverted to ft. lauderdale. you can see the outer layer of the windshield shattered. a flight attendant told passengers they were not in any grave danger. jetblue issuing a statement saying the flight landed safely and travelers were booktd on other flights. an east bay lawmaker will hold a hearing at the state capitol about driverless cars. jim frazier's hearing will focus on safety and public concerns about autonomous vehicles. he says the discussion is needed about how to balance the concerns with the benefits of

the cars. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. let's talk about temperatures. you can see other than our inland east bay neighborhoods in hayward, a little cooler, especially up in the north bay, novato it happened. santa rosa about five degrees cooler. let's start right there with temperatures in the mid 40s in most neighborhoods. we have a few 50s out there like clear lake, napa, vallejo. 50 in tiburon. we have low to mid 50s from laviolette, fairfield, el sobrante, down both sides of the east bayshore until redwood city and cupertino. daly city at 49. san ramon 48. 60 in brent road and tracy about 58 degrees. check out the golden gate. soft sunshine developing right now, and driving today, you may need the ac inland as we're going to hit the 80s in many neighborhoods. mass transit cool this morning, but some of those stations you return to this afternoon could be pretty warm. here is a look at the peninsula,

57 at 8:00. 10:0062, sunshine all the way up until 8:00. 73 at noon. we'll hang out in the low 70s to 62 at 8:00. on the east way, almost a mirror image with 56 at 8:00, 68 at noon and low 70s from 2:00 to 4:00, back to about 60. you'll need a coat if you're heading out at 8:00 this evening. weather is pretty agreeable. how is the traffic this morning? >> we've had a few trouble spots. i have a couple of new ones to talk about. first we'll start off by heading to the nimitz. we have a couple different reports. southbound 880 around industrial, a three-car crash reported in lane three. one of the middle lanes is taken away. i've started to see the backup approaching from state route 92. emergency crews arriving on the scene right now. hopefully they can clear this quickly. that's a tough spot to have anything blocking. we also have reports of an issue

on the westbound 580 off-ramp to southbound 680. a gravel truck rolled through there a short time ago and lost quite a bit of its load. they are sending a street sweeper to help out with that. on the bay bridge toll plaza, metering lights flipped on about 5:26. we started with a backup in the cash lanes. that backup a little further than it typically is. we'll look at drive times coming up next. a teenager brought back to life after being dead for 15 minutes. doctors said despite the miracle he'd never be normal again, that 13-year-old

a couple of things i want to point out to you on the state forecast. look at palm springs. 103 today. san diego 70. 77 in l.a. if you're going through the central valley or you're heading there for work, temperatures in the mid to upper 80s, near 90 in fresno. the sunshine pushes monterey to 65. hazy, blowing dust in yosemite today and 81. tahoe getting close to record highs. look at that, more and more ground. in fact, i wouldn't be surprised if we see much snow by the end of the week. near record high, 73 tomorrow. still above average. cooler for wednesday and friday,

back to near record highs by sunday. 74 degrees. >> an alabama teen is literally back from the dead after losing part of his skull in a freak accident. trenton mckinley was sitting in a small utility trailer that flipped two months ago. his head hit the concrete, fracturing his skull in seven places. >> all i saw was was was was was dead a total of 15 minutes. when he came back, they said he would never be normal. >> trenton was brain dead and barely breathing. his parents made the difficult decision to donate his organs. the day before doctors were set to pull the plug, he showed signs of brain activity. trenton believes he was in heaven. >> i was walking down -- it was more like an open field, walking straight. there's no other explanation but god.
