pretty waone and a warm one. >> good morning. thanks for waking up with us. you're never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. hi everybody. here is a look at our winds. you can see there's a little bit of a sea breeze out there, but not much. that's one of the reasons why we have almost total sunshine. a few clouds trying to develop. they won't last month. let's jump right into it. if you liked yesterday, how about today. it will be warmer, 58 to 51. stay in the upper 50s to low 60s at the coast. around the bay, 69 at noon to 73 at 4:00, 67 at 7:00. look at the sunshine inland, pushes our temperature from an average of 72 to above average 80 at 4:00 to a nice 69 at 7:00. a roller coaster temperatures coming up in my skuft. first let's talk about the

traffic. >> taking a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. before the metering lights were on, we had a large stackup in the cash lanes. it didn't start off great and things continue to back up into the maze. we don't have any blocking incidents along that route the rest of the way once you make it past the metering lights. westbound 580 tracy to dublin, one hour and one minute. that's in the red. westbound 4 antioch to concord in the yellow at 23. southbound 101 looking good, san rafael to san francisco in the green at 16 minutes. san jose's police chief is going to update us on a home invasion where a police officer fired toward the suspect. >> the armed robbery happened at a downtown apartment complex. abc 7 news reporter matt keller live in san jose. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning. two arrests, one a juvenile. shots were also fired during this confrontation but no one was hit. take a look at video from the

scene early yesterday morning. this happened on sunday morning. police responded to a home invasion robbery on east william and south ninth streets in san jose around 7:00. a sergeant told our media partner, the mercury news, two suspects were contained inside a police perimeter. a juvenile was arrested almost immediately. police say the other individual was armed with a gun and didn't obey commands. the officer shot at him and missed. the suspect never fired his weapon. chief eddy garcia will talk more about this at police headquarters at 3:00 this afternoon. matt keller, abc 7 news. activity at the kilauea volcano at hawaii's big island continues this morning. we're tracking the emergency situation. we know at least 30 buildings have been destroyed, most of them are homes. this aerial video from overnight shows that lava flow spewing from the ground near the volcano. we have learned there are now ten different large crevices

that have opened up in the area. they're spewing out lava. that lava is also soaring into the air 300 feet high. 1800 people forced to flee their homes. toxic sulfur dioxide is at lethal concentrations. the good news is there are no injuries reported. a bay area native who moved to the big island seven years ago never thought she'd have to evacuate because of a volcanic eruption. linda watson is an artist who created volcano-inspired works. she's trying to stay positive and hopes her home was spared. >> if i have to go through a disaster, the police are loving, they're all filled with aloha. everybody is hugging everybody. they all care about us. i know that whatever happens we're going to be okay. >> watson says she's used to earthquakes being from california, but this is the first time she's dealt with a

volcan volcanic eruption. a new honor for late san francisco mayor ed lee, his family along with mayor mark farrell planted a magnolia tree saturday on lee's birthday. one of the shovels was made from melted-down guns. that was a it iffing tribute because lee worked with the violence prevention organization united players to hold gun buyback events. the man accused of opening fire on customers and employees at a tennessee waffle house scheduled toop peer in court. >> travis reinking faces homicide charges in connection with the shooting in nashville. four people killed, four others hurt including a man who wrestled the wiefl away from him. reinking is held without bond. a motorcycle is dead after crashing into a napa county fire truck. it happened on highway 128 near lake hennessy yesterday afternoon. investigators say the motorcyclist lost control and hit the truck that was traveling

in the opposite direction. two people hurt after a tractor-trailer and van veered off i-580 yesterday afternoon at the' den canyon road on-ramp. both vehicles went down an embankment and overturned. fuel started leaking from the big rig, triggering a response from the hazmat team. the two drivers were taken to the hospital. pg&e doubling down on its commitment to education. today the company will announce plans to give $1 million to the oakland promise program over the next five years to support students in college, technical schools and vocational programs. this is in addition to the $1 million it already contributes to college scholarships through oakland promise. attorney general jeff sessions expected to visit the san diego border today to talk

. it's about ten minutes after 6:00 on this monday morning. let's talk temperatures. we'll start with the peninsula, foster city 49, daly city, same temperature. menlo park 45. everybody else in the low to mid 50s. 48 in oakland, palo alto 47. santa rosa and napa, our cooler

spots, dress for 45 degrees. look for how quiet the bay is this morning. that's the lack of sea breeze. no clouds. activity planner good for the beaches. watch out for the strong sunshine. exercising is going to be warm inland and out and about grab those sunglasses. here is a look at the south bay, 55 at 8:00. noon 71. mid 70s all the way up to 5:00, 68 by 8:00. in the last stop, the east bay valleys the warmest temperatures, from 59 at 8:00, 80s for the better part of the afternoon hours. live to sky 7 right no over an incident on southbound 880 in the hayward area. this is right around industrial. we had two crashes along southbound 880, one at industrial, one at ten son. thanks to sky 7 we were able to figure out that both of them have been cleared to the shoulder. tow truck has arrived on the scene for both into dentcidents.

this is an area that doesn't take much to slow it down in the peak hour. tri-valley, southbound 680 past the 580 merge, a crash involving a motorcycle. no serious injuries. that's pushed off to the shoulder. can you imagine how scary this sight was. not what passengers expected to see during their week-long cruise. >> fire sprung lers broke and flooded 50 cabins and the hallway on the ninth deck. passengers say they were pretty impressed with how carnival handled the situation. crew members got to work clearing out the water. carnival refunded passengers, gave them half off their next cruise and offered to fly them home early. e-cigarettes becoming more popular. >> if you love lobster, relief may be on the way from the high prices we've been seeing lately. a live look at sfo at 6:11.

questions being raised after an off-duty police officer in southern california pointed his gun at a man he thought stole candy. the man makes a purchase of a roll of mentos. he put the candy in his pocket

while he was waiting for change. an off duty cop walked in and told him to give it back. then he pulled out a gun and pointed it at him. the man repeatedly told the officer he paid for the candy. >> did he pay for this? >> yes. >> he paid for it? >> yes. >> my apologies. >> it wasn't really the gun. it was his arrogance. his way of talking to me. treat me like a piece of trash. >> the police chief says he finds the video disturbing and the incident is under investigation. a democratic senorliting a calling for a ban on cigarette flavors that appeal to young people. york senator chuck schumer is demanding, saying the epa has the authority to regulate the flavors. >> the craze among kids for

what an awesome afternoon it's going to be for you guys. pacifica about 63 degrees. heading down to the south bay, san jose at 78. tons of sunshine, mid to upper 70s. gilroy the warm spot at 82. in the north bay a few 80s also. sausalito, 68 degrees. east bay, that's where we'll have a wealth of 80s. everybody in the low to mid 80s. pleasanton right there pretty close at about 78 degrees. our lows tonight, you can see the white, the cloud creeping along the coast, filling over in the east bayshore line. upper 40s to mid 50s. my accuweather forecast, the cooling reaches the bay and the coast tomorrow. inland wednesday. it starts warming. check out saturday, even 70s at the coast. the rest of us the mid 70s to mid 80s. >> we have sky 7 heading north

on 880 crossing over 98 moving up through san leandro into the oakland area. those northbound lanes are looking great. later in the morning we typically see heavy delays on the northbound side. today we're looking great. for the folks heading north through the oakland area towards the maze, a wide-open commute so far this morning. 580 looking good if you want to use that for an alternate. a few minutes ago we had sky 7 over the hayward area where we had two separate crashes on the southbound side between tennison and industrial. we're up to 21 and 27 miles an hour. everything off on the shoulder. westbound 80 highway 4 to the maze, 25 minutes. 24 across the bay bridge. that's heavy. southbound 101 san francisco to sfo looking great in the green at nine minutes. i'm not sure why walnut creek is showing up. that's the santa cruz camera. i want to show you how strong it's going to get and how fast you'll burn. it's a nine. we see this normally in the summer. 10:00 to 4:00, six-hour window when you can burn in as little as 15 minutes. one of the ocean's top predators is swarming monterey bay. the santa cruz sentinel reports a record number of killer whale sightings this spring. last week at least 50 orcas were spotted. marine biologists say it's unusual for whales to gather in such large numbers but food sources are abundant. killer whales hunt gray whales, seals, see lions and dolphins. a children's booster seat is being recalled over concerns it could actually injure a child. harmony juvenile products is recalling 150,000 big boost deluxe seats. the national highway traffic safety administration says a crash could cause that seatbelt

to put excessive force on a choild's chest which could increase the chance of an injury. the company is working on a fix for the problem. we have a link on our website, abc7news.com. kevin durant helped lead the warriors to a win yesterday. mao importantly he's helping send local kids to college. durant announced he's covering college tuition for four local teenagers. the teens are regulars at the boys an girls club in redwood city and got to meet durant. the donation is one of his good deeds through his foundation. in february he made a $10 million commitment to children in prince george's county in maryland. photographers and special event companies teamed up to help out families who lost everything in last year's devastating wildfire. >> such a great idea. these volunteers helped fire victims fill one of the most painful voids caused by the fires, the loss of their family photographs. yesterday families who lost

>> this week you can expect to see 52,000 workers picketing in all. 300 surgeries and 12,000 outpatient procedures canceled by this. abc 7's amy hollyfield live at the parnassus campus with what this means for you. >> reporter: the strike is on and it is loud. check it out. i'm sure the patients inside the hospital can hear this going on outside. you are looking outside of the medical center on parnassus avenue. this is happening at uc facilities and campuses all across the state. these workers are fighting for a contract. they believe women of color -- women and people of color are not receiving a fair wage and they say jobs are being outsourced. this strike is set to last for three days. the hospital says it has brought in replacement workers to handle emergencies and labor and delivery. but they have had to cancel more than 300 surgeries and 12,000

appointments and outpatient procedures. 9,000 workers are in negotiations across the state. they are on strike. but another 15,000 are picketing in support. if you have pointing this week, call your care provider to make sure the appointment is still on. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. i want to give you an update on a shooting. police responded to the first samoan congregational church after two men were shot there. investigators had to block off part of 26th street near guerrero overnight. they put the crime scene tape up around midnight and have been scouring the area ever since for evidence. police say the victim are expected to recover from their injuries. no word yet on exactly what led up to the shooting. we'll let you know if we get an update. happening today, early voting begins for the june 5th

california primary. in san francisco the city hall voting center will open at 8:00 a.m. registered voters will all be receiving a vote-by-mail ballot. ballots must be postmarked on or received by june th. another round of cleanup duty for president trump's attorney rudy giuliani. >> the damage control after he revealed mr. trump repaid his personal attorney, michael cohen, for that $130,000 payment to adult film star stormy daniels. giuliani spoke to george steph nap lus on "this week." he said he's not actually aware of when the president learned about the payment. >> the president denied knowledge of the payments -- >> i don't know when the president learned about it. >> did michael cohen make payments to other women for the president? >> i have no knowledge of that. i would think if it was necessary, yes.

>> giuliani also took a tough stance on the russia investigation accusing special counsel robert mueller of trying to trap the president. giuliani said if the president is subpoenaed to testify, he may not comply. happening today, first lady mem land yeah trump is expected to announce her policy initiatives focused on children ranging from cyber bullying to protecting kids affected by opioid abuse. "the washington post" reports the first lady is taking a more independent role apart from her husband. a long-time friend of the president told the post the couple spends little time together, especially after the stormy daniels scandal came to light. the report says they have separate schedules, bedrooms and priorities. california republicans denouncing a self-proclaimed neo-nazi running for u.s. senate as a republican. patrick little posted this video after he got ejected from the state republican convention. he's seen standing on an israeli flag and spits on it. youtube has removed many of his

online videos due to their offensive nature. little is running against democratic senator dianne feinstein. >> mr. little cannot win here in california, but what he can do is use the number two position for a platform to raise his anti-semitic profile. >> california's rnc tells abc 7 news, little has no support in the california gop. little did not respond to our request for an interview. new this morning, a southwest airlines plane arriving in baltimore hit by a pickup truck. and this is really making headlines. take a look at this picture from our abc station in washington, d.c. this is actually at the baltimore washington international airport. happened about midnight eastern time. the flight was coming in from florida, from ft. lauderdale. a passenger on the flight says there were no injuries on the plane and it was stopped on the runway when this crash happened. there were 172 passengrs on

board. the truck, part of the airport's ground crew. no word yet on exactly what kraused the crash. another plane forced to make an emergency landing, this time involving a jetblue flight with a broken windshield. the plane was flying from puerto rico to tam p and diverted to ft. lauderdale yesterday. the outer layer of the windshield is shattered. a flight attendance told passengers they were not in any grave danger. the cabin never lost cabin pressure. airplane noise is still a problem in palo alto. today the city council is going to discuss suing the faa for not fixing it. palo alto residents have been complaining about airplane noise for years. this video is from 2016 when sfo adopted new technology that changed flight paths and made the problem actually worse. palo alto weekly reports several council members met with faa officials in washington, d.c. to address the issue last month but

and inland neighborhoods. 72 to 80, so warmer during the afternoon hours. here is a look at the north bay and what sticks out there. 81 degrees at 4:00 after starting at 8:00 at 53. for san francisco, pretty comfortable. look at all that sunshine. no marine layer clouds today. 54 this morning. by noon all the way through 4:00 at least in the low, even mid 60s out there. alexis, it's monday morning and everybody dreads that. how is the commute this morning? >> it hasn't been great. quite a few issues, nothing too extreme so far, but some slow spots. walnut creek southbound 680 just past treat boulevard, right around the middle of your screen, a two-car crash reported. doesn't sound too serious and they were able to push it off to the right shoulder. i'm not seeing flashing lights but seeing heavier traffic. i believe that should be right past the treat overpass.

hopefully that won't turn into a big issue. i will keep an eye on that. a new problem for the tri-valley westbound 580 before you get to hacienda, a new crash reported. that is blocking lane three. one of the center lanes is taken away. another one, southbound 680 past sunol boulevard, a crash involving two vehicles. it sounds like those vehicles are both drivable. we'll take a look at drive times coming up next. happening today, an east bay lawmaker will hold a hearing at the state capitol about driverless cars. jim frazier's hearing will focus on safety and public concerns about autonomous vehicles. frazier says a discussion is needed about how to balance those concerns with the benefit of driverless cars. today on abc news at 11:00, how much does it really cost to own a car in the bay area? it might be more than you think. michael finney runs the numbers on abc 7 news tonight at 11:00. draymond green responding to

let's take a look at the rest of the state, 6:44. palm springs at 103. look at the central valley. mid to upper 80s there. need the air conditioning in the car. also blowing dust today at yosemite at 81. 77 in l.a. with sunshine. eureka low to mid 60s. let's focus on tahoe. look at all the melting that's taking place. i'm guessing by the end of the week there will be no more snow to be seen in this picture because we will be flirting with record high temperatures. today i'm forecasting a high of 72. the record is 75. tomorrow a little warmer at 73. our next best chance will be sunday when we hit 74. happening today, san jose's police chief is going to update us on a 'em who invasion which ended with an officer firing toward a suspect.
