she and her kids fell through the ceiling of a home right into the living room. the babies were caught quickly. mom, though, she was not going down without a fight. eventually, they did manage to trap mom. they say she and her babies are now back in the wild. now to the new allegations against a mysterious self-help group called nxivm. prosecutors are painting it as a sex cult involved in human trafficking. >> a former member says the group's doctor forced her to watch violent videos and filmed her reaction. >> abc's amy robach has the latest on the case. >> reporter: u.s. attorneys say more arrests are eminent in the case surrounding the secretive self-help group nxivm, accused of branding women and forcing them to act as sex slaves. with allison mack coming face-to-face with reporters outside federal court, avoiding questions as she faces sex trafficking questions in connection to her alleged involvement in an organization she once promoted with videos like this. >> when i first came, i had on the surface something that

seemed to be a perfect life or a pretty good life. >> reporter: mack best known for her role in "smallville", appearing in court for a pretrial hearing seated near keith raniere. said to be nxivm's leader. the pair seen together in this video released by the organization. >> one would say authenticity is being as you are. and expressing as you are. >> i don't know why it makes me want to cry. it's beautiful. >> reporter: prosecutors say mack actively worked on recruiting women for raniere. in 2016, mack reached out to emma watson, tweeting, i'm an actress like yourself and involved in a women's movement i think you'd dig. i'd love to chat if you're open. but watson never responded. raniere's attorney say nxivm's members aren't forced to joining the group or participating in any activities. >> women joined of their own volition for their own reasons

and as part of what they thought they wanted to accomplish in life. >> reporter: both mack and raniere have pleaded not guilty, as abc news has learned a medical doctor said to be affiliated with the group is now under investigation by the new york state health department for allegedly improperly conducting research studies on members. documents obtained by abc news outlining charges against dr. brandon porter, accusing him of moral unfitness, gross negligence and gross incompetence, saying among other things that porter allegedly performed an unsanctioned fright study on nxivm members and monitoring their brain activity as they watched videos depicting sexual assault and murder. >> our thanks to amy robach. that doctor has been charged with an oversight board with illegally conducting experiments. >> he may have conducted fright study on up to 100 people. raniere and mack deny any wrongdoing.

>> hey, word had been swirling that something was about to go down. but nobody knew how bad these allegations would be until "the new yorker" published them. well, from there it was three hours before new york attorney general eric schneiderman had announced he would resign. abc covers law enforcement here in new york and i was told these allegations would be disturbing to anyone. particularly someone that investigated harvey weinstein. >> allegations involved four women. two came forward to the new yorker anonymously. but two others used their names. they're ex-girlfriends of eric schneiderman. they all tell remarkably similar stories. they say eric schneiderman, usually in bed and usually after drinking hit them. there are allegations of sexual violence, denied by eric schneiderman. he says he did not commit assault or engage in non-consensual sexual relations. he did acknowledge role playing during intimate encounters.

the apartment before the shooting because there were no signs of forced entry. a reward is being offered in that case. george zimmerman is back in the news charged with aggravated stalking. the former neighborhood watchdog is accused of threatening a private investigator who was researching the 2012 shooting of trayvon martin. zimmerman was acquitted in that case. and now he's accused of making threats to an investigator working on a documentary about trayvon. two new vents have started emitting toxic gas. molten rock is running down a street and consuming a mustang. the lava has destroyed at least 30 homes and other property. and because the suburban division is near an active volcano many do not have homeowner's insurance. >> what's going to happen if we lose our farm? we don't know where we're going

a smash and grab burglary a smash and grab burglary captured here on camera in north carolina. thieves breaking into a mall in the middle of the night and went straight for the jewelry store. they used a sledge hammer to smash display cases and scoop up $500,000 worth of jewelry. one of them was cut by broken glass and police are hoping to use the dna to track them down. southwest airlines is investigating after one of its planes collided with a pickup truck. >> the flight from ft. lauderdale had just landed.

it was sitting on the runway when the truck struck the plane. no one was hurt. the ntsb is investigating it. southwest is having the worst year yet. check out this scene, water flowing into the parking lot at philadelphia's airport after a water main break. toilets inside the terminals couldn't be flushed. water fountains didn't work. water pressure has been restored. and dramatic body camera video has been released showing life-saving actions of one officer. >> he responded to a multi-vehicle accident in february. six people were injured, including a 4-year-old girl who wasn't breathing. an officer and nurse in the area performed cpr on that girl until paramedics arrived. after a few minutes they reestablished her pulse.

this tuesday, may 8th. r.i.p. from abc news, this is "world news now." >> well, i thought i liked taco bell a lot. that is -- >> they're, that's some serious obsession with their taco bell. we begin with breaking news, that surprise resignation by new york's attorney general. >> the democrat, eric schneiderman resigned three hours after a magazine article accused him of physical violence. four women which whom he had been romantically involved claimed he choked and hit them. >> his ex-wife says it is impossible to believe these allegations, but he resigned. >> reporter: the allegations in "the new yorker" would be shocking against anyone, but against the state attorney general, a self-proclaimed champion of the me too movement.

"the new yorker" magazine published a scathing and meticulously documented piece on the new york attorney general with allegations of violence so striking that even schneiderman realized he had no chance of surviving political lay. one of the accusers was his off and on girlfriend. she quotes schneiderman as quoting, if you ever leave me, i'd kill you. the other woman is tonya silveratnam. she's quoted in the article as saying during her year-long relationship with schneiderman, we could rarely have sex without him beating me. he was obsessed with having a threesome and said it was my job to find the other woman and he would hit me until i agreed. sometimes he'd tell me to call him master and slap me until i did.

he admitted to role playing in the privacy of intimate relation -- relationships. he did not deny the specific allegations of beating, spitting at and choking women. he did, in the end, though, resign. >> and in the article, schneiderman issues a statement saying the privacy and relationships i engaged in role playing. and other consensual activity. i have not assaulted anyone, but he did resign about three hours after that report came out. and the reason it's such a big focal point is his history. he has championed himself as a champion for women. >> sued harvey weinstein. >> he had this brochure in his office about women's right >> sued harvey weinstein. >> he had this brochure in his office about women's rights. this was his cause. >> absolutely shocking resignation. you do get the sense, though, that although there are four women who have come forward, there may be others that might come forward after they hear all about this.

interesting story there here in new york. we're going to move on now, we're hours away from finding out whether president trump will pull the u.s. out of the iran nuclear deal. the president has been highly critical of the 2015 nuclear agreement. but many allies have been turning up the pressure to uphold the deal. >> reporter: president trump made headlines teasing ahead to a big announcement 2:00 p.m. later today about the iranian nuclear deal. this is the deal that the president had vowed to tear up. european leaders had been on a mission making the plea in person. the brits made a last-ditch effort, even sending someone to fox news trying to get the president to hear their case. one european diplomat tells us it seems pretty obvious president trump will exit this deal. cecelia vega, the white house. and first lady melania trump has rolled out her official platform focussing on helping kids across the country.

first lady melania trump has announced her formal agenda, aimed at the well-being of children. the campaign called be best will tackle the growing opioid epidemic as well as cyber bullying. she called on children to speak verbally and online respectfully. she has ignored criticism over her choice to combat social media abuse while the president continues to use his twitter but he actually sat right there in the front row as she unveiled that plan. and in a rare, public display of affection, the president embraced his wife and gave her multiple kisses following the rose garden announcement. earlier, the press secretary sarah sanders dismissed a rumor that the first lady doesn't live in the white house but instead lives with her parents in the suburbs. >> that is an outrageous and ridiculous claim.

>> reporter: both mack and raniere have pleaded not guilty, as abc news has learned a medical doctor said to be affiliated with the group is now under investigation by the new york state health department for allegedly improperly conducting research studies on members. documents obtained by abc news outlining charges against dr. brandon porter, accusing him of moral unfitness, gross negligence and gross incompetence, saying among other things that porter allegedly performed an unsanctioned fright study on nxivm members and monitoring their brain activity as they watched videos depicting sexual assault and murder. >> our thanks to amy robach. that doctor has been charged that doctor has been charged by an oversight board with illegally conducting experiments.
