americans, pompeo says he is hopeful we don't have to cross that road. this morning secretary of state mike pompeo back in north korea. president trump revealing the news while announcing his plans to pull the u.s. out of the iran nuclear deal. >> in preparation for my upcoming meeting with kim jong-un, plans are being made, relationships are building. >> reporter: this is pompeo's second trip to north korea after secretly meeting with north korean leader kim jong-un over easter weekend. passionate reaction overseas. today lawmakers in tehran lit paper american flags on fire while some chanted "death to america." iran's president says if necessary his country could start enriching uranium again within weeks. european leaders reacted to president trump's decision with regret and concern. but the president says ending the deal will make the world safer.

for the job. and we turn now to new explosive claims about president trump's lawyer, michael cohen. the attorney for stormy daniels claims that after the election, cohen received hundreds of thousands of dollars from a company closely affiliated with a russian oligarch. other payments are also coming under scrutiny and could add to cohen's legal problems. this morning allegations of a russian money trail involving president trump's persal lawyer. the accusations come from the attorney for adult film star stormy daniels. michael avenatti says trump's attorney michael cohen received $500,000 from a company affiliated with russian billionaire viktor vekselberg who has close ties to vladimir putin. avenatti's memo also says that money was wired to the same account used to pay off daniels to keep quiet about her alleged affair with president trump. >> what's the explanation for the half a million dollars worth of payments? i mean, michael cohen should not have been accepting money especially under the circumstances at this time from anyone with russian ties. >> reporter: the company connected to the russian

billionaire says they hired cohen after the inauguration as a real estate consultant. >> of all the people that could be hired for consulting advice on real estate and the like here in new york or elsewhere and there's a lot of real estate in new york and there's a lot of real estate consultants, they just happened to hire the personal attorney to the united state president. >> reporter: vekselberg was targeted for u.s. sanctions by the trump administration last month and he's also been interviewed by special counsel robert mueller's team which is investigating russian meddling in the u.s. election. avenatti's memo shows payments to cohen from other corporations including at&t which is seeking approval for its merger with time warner. the company says it paid cohen for what it calls insights into understanding the new administration. avenatti did not release the documents to support his claims and did not reveal the source of his information. abc news has not confirmed the authenticity of the documents. >> hopefully at this point now with the release of this information, there will be a call for the release of this

information, the suspicious activity report or reports relating to this account so the american people can see exactly what happened here. >> and we reached out to a former white house ethics lawyer for george w. bush for his take on the story. he said, quote, there's a lot of smoke here, but we don't know yet if there's fire. michael cohen's attorney did not respond to a request for comment. now to the other big political story overnight, the results from four states holding primaries that will shape the midterm elections in november. in west virginia the controversial former coal executive don blankenship could not overcome opposition from president trump. blankenship finished a distant third in the republican senate primary despite claiming that he was trumpier than trump. >> it concerns me that the republican party needs to be careful about being hijacked by candidates that don't represent them or values of what we hope the republican party is. but in any event, it didn't work out. >> republican voters in the states holding senate primaries

we're back with this video from inside the cabin of a delta airlines flight during an emergency on the ground. passengers shouted to get out of the flight there as it filled with smoke after landing in denver. the plane was evacuated on the tarmac. the 130 plus passengers used emergency exits to get out. some standing on the wing later complaining about the confusion and the smell. minor injuries were reported. delta is investigating what took place. in hawaii there is an urgent

evacuation order for a subdivision of homes now threatened by the kilauea volcano. new lava vents have opened up threatening to cut off the escape route for about 300 residents. lava has already destroyed 27 homes and 9 other buildings. scientists say the eruption has no end in sight. near houston a massive fire spread through this power plant after a transformer exploded. it resulted in a widespread power outage but no injuries reported. firefighters had to wait for that fire to burn down before finally entering the area. well, google has unveiled a service that can make appointments and reservations over the phone by impersonating a human. the virtual voice assistant can even answer complex questions. google released this example of one call to a restaurant. the person on the other end of the line would never know they were talking to a robot. >> hi, may i help you? >> hi, i'd like a table for

she leaps from a moving car as you can see there to escape a carjacker. he had jumped in while the girl's father was pumping gas. her dad, you can also see, climbed on the hood of another car to try to stop the carjacker's accomplice. they reunited on the sidewalk as you can see. both dad and daughter are physically okay. >> quite a scare for them, though. and this morning we're hearing from a woman who hopes her decades long nightmare will come to an end. >> yeah, police near detroit believe they're close to finding the remains of her sister who may be one of six buried at that site now linked to a serial killer and eva pilgrim is there. >> reporter: a cold case turned red hot. investigators digging in the woods of macomb township, michigan, searching for the remains of kimberly king, who vanished in 1979. >> whatever happened to her happened to her that night. whatever happened to her happened to her from a stranger. you know, whatever happened to her was not planned. whatever happened to her, she didn't see it coming. >> reporter: the 12-year-old last seen in her best friend's backyard.

>> reporter: police re-opened the case late last year and interviewed arthur ream several times since and say he failed a polygraph. eva pilgrim, abc news, macomb township, michigan. a former college football player has been found guilty in the first degree murder of his ex-girlfriend. william riley gaul fired his grandfather's rifle through the wall of emma walker's bedroom in knoxville, tennessee, while she was sleeping. the question for jurors is whether gaul intended to kill the 16-year-old cheerleader or not. well, they decided he did. he faces life in prison with no possibility of parole for 51 years. a new drug is offering hope in the fight against male pattern baldness. it was actually made to treat osteoporosis, but researchers say as it strengthens bones, it also prevents hair loss. it works by suppressioning a protein known for restricting hair growth without major side effects and scientists are now hoping to test it during a clinical trial. i'm first. >> and now to sports starting with a no-hitter in canada.

the caldecott tunnel just hours ago. a car became disabled on highway 24 on the west end of the tunnel. another driver stopped to help and a tow truck came along. that's when things really got crazy. one of the drivers got into an altercati altercation. someone pulled out a gun and fired twice into the air. the chp stopped traffic and that caused a major backup. we have reached out to chp to find out if anyone was arrest ed >> where did that video come from? i have no idea how we got right there on the scene. i was sitting there for an hour, i thought, i could do some work and take some video. couldn't talk to anybody rather than talking car to car. everybody was like what's going

details on how many people were exposed to the chemical. hi, matt. >> reporter: good morning, jessica. this is where it all went down, right in this parking lot right outside the emergency room. that's where the decontamination process took place. san jose fire was called to valley medical center about 11:45 to help with a possible hazmat situation. hospital workers needed help with the decontamination procedure. this started as a patient was flown in on a medical helicopter. firefighters contacted the patient's employer to find out what substance he and the medical staff was exposed to. they isolated the patient and staff. >> we were able to determine that it was just stuff that needed to be deconned with soap and water. we were
