dozens of people back in their homes after an early morning fire. >> amy hollyfield live for us in the upper market neighborhood. good morning, amy. >> reporter: good morning. i got briefed by the battalion chief and he was telling us about how the fire started in that top unit. look up there. you can see not much left of it. there are four people living in that unit, one person was taken to the hospital possibly for smoke inhalation. i talked to one woman who lived there. she said she feels lucky they got out alive. it was so scary. she thinks it started in the kitchen. looks like maybe an electrical fire. she said there was fire every where and very loud. listen to the battalion chief explain how at first they were not even sure it was a fire. >> a resident statement thought it was a burglary. had a window break and thought somebody was making entry and then heard the fire alarm. she got up and saw the fire towards the kitchen area.

then she got the rest of the residents out and evacuated. >> the exterior deck was also on fire. firefighters say it was a bit of a challenge to get up there and get this one out. it's on a dead end street on glendale which is off of market. on upper market up from the castro and you eureka valley. a few other units were damaged. they are estimating eight to ten people may be displaced. but letting people in now to assess how bad it is. they are on a case by case basis on figuring out who can stay and who can go. most of the units their damage is water damage from putting out the fire. this call came in just before 2:00 this morning. firefighters are now leaving. they are about done here. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. those three american men being held prisoners in north korea back home in the u.s. and look at this moment. they appear to be in good

health. they arrived at joint base andrews while you were sleeping about midnight our time. president trump and the first lady were both there. also the vice president. and each detainee was held for more than a year, quite the ordeal. vice president mike pence sat down with abc news chief white house correspondent jonathan karl shortly after those three men set foot on u.s. soil and he asked the vice president how the men were treated. >> we'll see. they are at walter reed medical center. to see them come out on the platform with president trump and the first lady, to see the joy on their faces, and to be able to greet them on the tarmac was really one of the greatest joys of my life. >> the return of the prisoners is a gesture of goodwill from north korea ahead of president trump's nuclear summit with kim take place some time next month. >> it reminds us what happened

about a year ago when the last american released of college student otto warmbier. he died after suffering severe brain-damage days after being freed. otto warmbier's parents are suing north korea, alleging they kidnapped, tortured and murdered their son. he was arrested in january of 2016 and accused of stealing a propaganda poster. he was sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard labor. his parents are happy for the hostages but they miss their son. >> hard not to think about him. 6:05. did you feel and earthquake last night? several of them rattled part of northern california. they were centered around guy certificateville. the largest 4.2 at 7:48 followed by 4.0 one minute later. no reports of injury or damage. how an sfpd officer with a sketchy past got into the police academy is raising questions. he filed a harassment claim

against the department last month. he didn't want to be named because of safety reasons. he was the subject of a napa police all points bulletin five years ago. napa police said he posed as a high level cia agent on a dating website and claimed to be involved in the killing of osama bin laden. a source tells abc 7 news he later applied to oakland police but was kicked out there for quote-unquote untruthfulness in class assignments. >> not arrested and a police report is not generated then you might not pick it up on a background investigation. >> he denies putting himself out there as a cia agent. he denies saying anything about osama bin laden. sfpd is still investigating the harassment claim. police are looking for a man accused of taking photos of female students in a bathroom stall. two women have come forward. in one case the suspect held a cell phone underneath a stall

left the roadway early this morning. this crash happened at about 4:40 and still trying to get this cleaned up. this is around coleman avenue and i've been watching the scene. i'm trying to figure out how this happened. we got a tweet early this morning from christopher that said the semi was going 65 miles per hour when it threat roadway and crossed over that barrier and then crashed basically into that median. we've not gotten word on condition of the driver. we do see heavy duty tow truck on the scene. to me it looks like he left that southbound side of the road, went over the barrier and hit basically that median that's off to the side. maybe a bit of the event. on-ramp is still blocked. no major delays and 880 the main line is looking okay. next traffic update coming up at 6:30. >> "good morning america" coming up at 7:00. >> we go live to new york city for a look at what's ahead. >> reporter: great to see you on a thursday morning.

one possible location for that summit, singapore. the ex-prisoners are being treated and evaluated at walter reed medical center. we're glad they are home. new details this morning on the golden state killer case. in the next few days prosecutors from four california counties are expected to discuss where suspect joseph james deangelo is going to stand trial. according to the orange county register, law enforcement officials will decide whether he'll be prosecuted in multiple trials, various counties, or the case will be consolidateed into a single trial. so far he's been charged with eight murders in sacramento, orange, ventura and santa barbara counties. joseph james deangelo is scheduled to return to court in sacramento on monday. happening today we're expecting an update on wildfire clean up efforts in the north bay. officials will be in santa rosa to discuss the progress. it has been seven months since the fires killed dozens of people and destroyed more than 8,000 buildings.

morning to come to this dead end street called glendale. right off of upper market up from the castro and valley. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. happening today the two suspects accused of murdering a 19-year-old woman than dumping her body on the side of the road are due to appear in court. 19-year-old daniel gross and 25 elderly melissa leonardo are scheduled to enter their pleas at 9:00 a.m. they are charged with stabbing the 19-year-old multiple times february and leaving her on the road in livermor investigators say she named her killers with her dying breath. her father is expected to attend this plea hearing. >> the santa clara city council will address allegations of sexual harassment against a council member. councilman is a sivg

fremont line. that's due to an earlier equipment problem on the tracks. they got that fixed and in recovery mode. this morning the white house condemning iran and what it says is a rocketed attack against israeli citizens. vice president mike pence sent out a tweet saying that he supports israel in their right to defend themselves. the israeli military said this morning it has in turn attacked near a lot of different iranian military installation. attacking some areas in syria. in response to what is called a barrage of rockets. this would be the first time that we've seen this type of direct conflict between basically israel and iran in such a long time and this comes just less than two days after president trump withdrew the u.s. from tern nuclear deal. >> we'll be watching that.
