u.s.-north korea summit. here's the latest. >> reporter: signs of peace. three americans return the home after being released. to all of us to get these three great people out. it was nice in letting them go before the meeting. i mean, frankly, we did not think this was going to happen. >> reporter: one prisoner sentenced to hard labor in 2015, the other two sentenced last year. secretary of state mike pompeo escorted them home after the release seen as a symbol of victory for president trump. >> president trump found a way to communicate in terms, i believe, that kim jong un could finally hear, could hear this president was serious and it's all a result of president trump's leadership. >> reporter: the world is watching as president trump prepares for the summit with kim jong un. on twitter, announcing that

summit set for june 12th in singapore focusing on the goal. the president says it's been a long time coming. >> my proudest achievement will be, this is a part of it, but will be when we denuclearize that entire peninsula. >> reporter: on the flight back to the u.s., vice president pence asked a prisoner asked to get off the plane in alaska because it had been so long since he'd seen daylight. abc news, washington. the last american released from north korea was college student otto warmbier. he died days after being freed after severe brain damage suffered in captivity. they are suing north korea alleging they kidnapped, tortured, and murdered their son. warmbier was arrested in january 2016 accused of stealing a propaganda poster and sentenced to 15 years of hard labor. his parents say they are happy for the hostages who have been released, but they miss their son, otto.

seven people displaced by a fire in san francisco breaking out at 2:00 a.m. in an apartment building on glendale street near market below twin peaks. this is new video given to us. a woman who lives in the unit where the fire started told firefighters she woke up to the sound of glass breaking. >> thought it was a burglar, the windows break, and they thought someone was making entry, and they heard the fire alarm go off. she got up and seen the fire towards the kitchen area is where she initially saw it, and the got the rest of the residents out and evacuated. one taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, and one unit in the building was destroyed and several others damaged. the cause is still under investigation, but the woman who lives where the fire started thinks there was an electrical issue in her kitchen. and sky 7 was over the big rig i crash this morning around 4:40. the driver was on southbound 880

near coleman avenue hitting a concrete barrier and jackknifed. there were no injuries. no word on what caused the driver to hit that barrier. the june 5th primary election is still more than three weeks away, but early voting is underway. abc 7 news was at city hall this morning as san francisco supervisor cast her vote at the voting center there, remaining open through election, by the way. breed is running to finish out the term of ed lee who passed away unexpectedly in december. polls have shown breed with a narrow lead while today two other candidates kim and former state senator leno announced their now alliance strategy. each say they'll put dune the other as their second choice candidate. san francisco uses rank choice voting and the race could be decided by voters' rankings for second and third. police are looking for a man who took pictures of female students in a bathroom stall at santa rosa junior college. at least two women have stepped

forward now. on tuesday night around 7:45, a man held a cell phone underneath a stall and took pictures or video. now, ten minutes later, another student says a man did the same thing to her. this time, reaching over the petition to snap pictures. the women described the man as being in his 20s or 30s, 5'6", with either gray hair or a bald head. he was last seen wearing a black and white stripped t-shirt and walking barefoot. opening date of a long awaited san francisco subway station could be delayed again for months. the examiner reports the contractor working on the central subway in china town installed more than three miles of the wrong track. crews used standard strength steel instead of high strength steel. mta says it's not a safety issue. they wrote a letter to the contractor last month ordering them to replace it, but now the station may not open at the end of next year as planned.

today is bike to workday, and with traffic congestion worse than ever in the bay area, organizers urged commuters to give two wheels a chance. amy hollyfield is live on market street in san francisco. organizers offered a lot of incentives to cyclists this morning. >> reporter: they even have cheerleaders here on market street to encourage bikers. as you know, market street has a well used bike lane here, cyclists say they feel like outreach is working and streets are feeling safer, and drivers realize they are not the only ones on the street. they are hoping drivers are extra careful today because there are new cyclists out on the road. >> happy bike to workday. >> reporter: he loves bike to workday so far, he offers bike riders a holiday-like greeting as they pass by. >> it is. it is a holiday, yes. >> reporter: the 81-year-old stood on market street in san francisco for two and a half

hours this morning to encourage communitiers to choose two wheels instead of four. >> it's wonderful to see the freedom of all cyclists zipping by while cars are stopped in traffic. bicycling is freedom. happy bike to workday. >> reporter: bike to workday organizers set up more than 400 stations in the bay area during the morning commute. cyclists could grab coffee, a snack, get a tuneup for the bike, and hear more about making the streets safer for bikers. >> it's a super fun day and makes you wonder why you don't do it every day. >> reporter: the mayor got in on the action and biked to city hall. he says getting people on to bikes is going to be key to san francisco's future. >> someone who was born and raised here, i never saw the roads as congested as they are now. our population will continue to grow, and as that happens, we need to make sure we get people out of their cars and into different sustainable modes of transit. >> reporter: some who sampled
