"solo: a star wars story." look at that. the millennium falcon. they built one. one of the guys who works here this morning came in and said hey, there's a life-size millennium falcon outside. and then i explained because i have to ruin everything that it's not life size because there is no millennium falcon in real life. [ laughter ] and then he started to cry. his name is danny. he's 33. he's a lonely guy. we have probably the biggest star of the war of all of them with us tonight. donald glover is here. [ cheers and applause ] that's right. very exciting. as i was thinking about it, we haven't had a new "star wars" movie in months. literally. meanwhile, it has been a bigly week for our president who was up very late last night. the president and first lady were at andrews air force base this morning at around 3:00 a.m. to greet three american detainees who were being held by kim jong un. let me tell you something. after all that time in north korea, you've never seen three people more excited about a little bag of airline peanuts in

[ laughter ] the prisoners, the hostages were said to be relieved to be free, happy to be home, and baffled as to why the host of the "celebrity apprentice" picked them up at the airport. [ laughter ] the president of course is very upbeat. he finally got some -- this positive coverage he so desperately craves. and he took time out to not only thank the assembled media but to

remind us of what really is most important in life. >> i want to thank you all. it's very early in the morning. i think you probably broke the all-time in history television rating for 3:00 in the morning. that i would say. >> jimmy: yes. what a historic day to celebrate nielsen ratings. he really has nothing to do with. and then he actually thanked kim jong un for releasing the men and for treating them well. right. outside of the hold kidnapping them and holding them against their will for nothing thing, he was very hospitable. he really was. [ laughter ] and of course no team trump victory would be complete without a message from our brown noser in chief, mike pence. >> it was an incredibly powerful moment to see the president and the first lady bring three americans back to freedom. and it was all a direct result of the strong and clear leadership that president trump has provided on the world stage in this moment.

think about how far we've come in the last year. >> jimmy: it's true. a year ago he wasn't allowed to be in a room with a woman without his wife present. [ laughter ] and now there he is with andrea mitchell. but make no mistake. the release of the hostages is excellent news. and we know now where and when trump will meet with kim jong un. he tweeted the highly anticipated meeting between kim jong un and myself will take place in singapore on june 12th. we will both try to make it. a very special moment for world peace. >> that's good. you should make the moment special. all our moments should be special. in singapore, though. i didn't even know they had a hooters in singapore. [ laughter ] secretary of state mike pompeo, he's the one whoen terd north korea to pick the hostages up and to meet with kim jong un. now, this is footage from korean central television. this is like when the bachelor meets the ladies getting out of the limo. now they're actually not posing for a picture. just hanging out. and kim escorts mike to the dining room, where as you can

see they've prepared a traditional north korean meal. >> jimmy: oh, that's -- as a baby, actually-s how i started. you -- your parents are in show business, right? my parents are not. my father is a bowler, really. and not even a professional bowler. but your mom and dad are both directors? >> yes. they're both directors and writers. so it was a very creative household. and i grew up like working in the art department or working in hair doing different odd jobs. yes. >> jimmy: really? >> yes. >> jimmy: and when your parents are directors, like do they wake you up in the morning yelling "action"? is there -- >> no. not specifically. we definitely were a very open household. i'm an only child. i'm very close with my parents. m i had my first boyfriend when i was 13, he took me on a date to see "star trek" and he tried to make out with me and it was too much for me. so i came home and i told my parents that i didn't want to be with him anymore and that i was going to ghost him, and they said no, you have to write him something. let's sit down, let's have a writer's room, let's pitch,

let's go back and forth. and my mom, you know, is very gentle. and she felt like you know, molly, you're holding his heart in your hands. you don't want to mess him up for future relationships. you've got to make him feel heard. and my dad is very funny. and he's like keep it up, keep it snappy, we need jokes. i didn't want to say anything. i just wanted to say i'm going to theater camp, i never want to see you again. that was like the first of many like -- >> jimmy: was it a handwritten letter? >> it was a handwritten letter. and they definitely have helped me write other things in my life too. >> jimmy: they help you with all your break-up letters? >> all my break-up letters have been co-written by them. >> jimmy: it makes being dumped even worse knowing that the parents were in on it too. >> yes. >> jimmy: do they ever try to talk you out of it and go i like this one, maybe we should just hold on to this for a while? >> we're very much on the same page, which i'm very close with them. that's why this movie felt -- i felt very lucky to be in it because it's showing a very

close family and that's what i -- >> jimmy: a very close family because melissa mccarthy plays your mom. and the idea is you go to college and then she comes to college with you. >> yes. and i think we bonded on the fact that we were like we would love this, i want her to come. and i think we're probably the two only people that feel that way. >> jimmy: yeah. i know. it's funny because i was talking to melissa and she was saying how close she is with her mom and that she wouldn't mind that. >> no. she started like crying when she talked about her mom. >> jimmy: she did. she almost started crying. >> it's beautiful. >> jimmy: which was uncomfortable for me. ever lfr you' you're not going to do that, are you? >> she's amazing. >> jimmy: do you make a kind of mother-daughter type bond with her when you're playing mother-daughter or is it just work? >> yeah, we definitely -- i felt like i learned a lot from her. i'm just such a big fan of hers. >> jimmy: she's great. >> she's like one of the most talented, kind people in the world. i was so nervous the first week of filming. >> jimmy: oh, you were. >> just so nervous. and they took us out for drinks

like on the friday after we filmed. and i drank a little bit too much mixed with like the nerves and i stood up and started delivering this speech, and it was a very casual vibe. no one was speaking. and i just shouted, "melissa, you're a second mom to me." and it was just like silence. and i was like, ben, you're the ship that brings us home. thank you for letting me be here. like to warner brothers, to new line. i kept -- it kept getting worse and worse and worse. and i was like, molly, please sit down. please sit down. but i just kept going. >> jimmy: it was like an awards luncheon. >> yes. it was an awards luncheon. it felt like a bar mitzvah vibe mixed with -- >> jimmy: how many days had you been there -- >> four. they did not know me. got any of it, going and shooting at a college? >> yes. we all lived in the same apartment building. so we all hung out. but no, i don't -- the movie's about sororities, and i knew nothing about it. melissa would ask us, is this what we're supposed to do? i had no idea. that was like the biggest struggle of the movie, was trying to figure out if we were doing the right thing. >> jimmy: and what is the right thing? did you have a sorority consultant? >> we didn't have a consultant. we kind of just winged it. i hope that it's right. >> jimmy: i don't know anything about sororities. but i can't -- i know they have like a handshake and then there are certain like rituals or whatever. >> yeah, there's a ritual scene in the movie that's pretty kooky and crazy. i hope that people will see their experience in that. >> jimmy: will see the ritual. yes. a ritual beating. >> exactly. >> jimmy: yes. >> yeah. i know like theater ritual, like weird like -- >> jimmy: what is a theater rich s ritual? >> like weird games. warm-up games that other people
