lives. the proposal passed in committee yesterday and the full bloord vote on it at a later date. >> just like that, it is 4:30 a.m. if you're just waking up, here's an update on your weather and traffic. we start with mike. >> all right, never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. here's a look from the exploratorium. you can see no sign of the marine layer out there. so, let's talk about what's going to happen today. we have a few high clouds. that's why it's partly cloudy this morning. temperatures pretty close to where we were yesterday, so if you like to wear the same coat two days in a row, no excuse not to. low to mid-50s there at 7:00. by noon, 60 at the coast. that's already a little bit warmer than yesterday. low to mid-70s. that's definitely warmer. and if you're heading out, take the sunglasses, you'll need it. look at temperatures jump around the bay and inland. 76 to 82 at 4:00 and mid-to-upper 70s away from the coast at 7:00, but that's when the breezes begin. i'll give you an update on that wind advisory coming up next. here's alexis. >> all right, good morning, mike. and taking a live look now at walnut creek. i knew that last one wasn't

right. southbound 680 moving along without any issues here this morning. so, overall, it is a really quiet start. we don't have any major slowdowns, although we have an early delay already out of tracy. westbound 580 into castro valley, 52 minutes, not terrible, but definitely stop-and-go. northbound 101, highway 85 to the san jose airport, just 12 minutes and northbound 280 highway 1 to san francisco wide open at ten minutes. >> thanks, alexis. chp investigating a deadly hit-and-run on interstate 580 in san leandro. a man was hit west of the 150th avenue on-ramp around 10:00 last night. the victim was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead. several people called 911 to report a pedestrian down in the far right lane of the freeway. investigators do not have a description of the driver or the vehicle. a 16-year-old sophomore says it took just a matter of minutes to hack into the grade system at ygnacio valley high school in concord. we're now learning how he did it. here's a story you'll see only on 7.

>> police, search warrant! >> excuse me? >> open the door! >> hold on! >> reporter: this surveillance video shows the moment armed officers and the secret service broke down the door to david t rotaro's home. the 16-year-old admitted to me he hacked into ygnacio valley high school's grading network. >> it was like stealing candy from a baby. >> reporter: it took rotaro five minutes to create a phishing e-mail, which he sent to school staff. administrators were tipped off about two weeks ago. that's when someone in the i.t. department got that phishing e-mail, but it went to spam. just in case, he asked all the other teachers if they had gotten the same e-mail. only one admitted to opening it. all he needed was one username and password. r rotaro raised and even dropped the grades of 10 to 15 people. >> he was charged with crimes ranging from unauthorized use of entering a network to unauthorized use of a person's personal information.

>> i'm speechless. i don't know. like, what to say. >> rotaro did say he wanted to also point out the school's vulnerability. >> i kind of want to give awareness to cybersecurity. >> reporter: his parents, meantime, had no idea their son had this skill set. >> frustrated that he did this, and i don't want him to go to being a juvenile. >> reporter: rotaro was released from custody wednesday, and by the way, naefer got around to actually changing his over grades. in concord, lisa abc7 news. now new information just coming in on the situation in hawaii. hawaii's governor has asked president trump to declare the state a major disaster because of the earthquakes there and the volcanic eruption on the big island. and overnight, we saw some new cracks open up on roads. in fact, 36 structures have burned so far, mainly homes. that number has stayed the same, but now there are also major concerns about huge cracks on

highway 130. that's one of the main roads on the island. the highway lines up directly with the riff zone. that's why they're concerned. also new this morning, most of the hawaii volcanos national park closed indefinitely, and scientists think kilauea is on the verge of a major eruption of steam and ash. the volcano's lava lake has dropped so low, it's nearly reaching groundwater. and here's the catch -- if that happens, we could see steam-driven explosions, and that steam could actually send big boulders flying thousands of feet away. reggie, we're talking six feet in diameter. >> i have family in hilo, about an hour away from kilauea, but still, they have been rattled this week. >> major concern. >> yeah, thank you. a white house official is facing backlash for an insensitive comment she reportedly made about senator john mckale. "the hill" reports it happened during a closed-door meeting yesterday after mccain said he opposed the president's nominee for cia director. according to an unnamed source,

press aide kelly sadler said, "it doesn't matter. he's dying anyway." mccain is battling brain cancer and underwent surgery last month. his wife, cindy, tweeted this response to sadler -- "may i remind you, my husband has a family, seven children, and five grandchildren." mccain's daughter, meghan, will address the comment today on "the view," and you can watch that here on abc7 at 10:00 a.m. a bill headed to governor brown will give even more protection to undocumented immigrants in california. it would prevent lawyers from asking witnesses or victims their immigration status in court, unless it's relevant to a case. lawmakers say a lot of undocumented immigrants don't testify or even report crimes because they fear revealing that they're here illegally will get them deported. >> no more of this wild west situation where attorneys go in the court and essentially harass immigrant witnesses by asking them about their immigration status. >> reporte

>> the measure will take effect immediately if the governor signs it. the number of registered republicans in california is now at a new low. according to the just-released numbers, democrats now make up 44.5% of the state's electorate. that's up slightly from 2014. republicans make up 25.2% of the electorate, down from 2014. now, just behind independents are a no party preference at 25.1%. california has 19.8 million registered voters. secretary of state alex poe dia says that's the most in registe the june 5th primary, the dead lane is 11 days away. governor brown will release a revised budget plan and it includes $96 million more to fight the threat of wildfires. part of the money increases to 500,000 acres the land california protects through controlled burns and tree thinning, double what it is right now. brown also wants to outreach to land owners on ways to reduce vegetation. the governor says unless we take action now, california faces more disasters like the north

bay wildfires. you are never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. let's talk about the winds. the wind advisory starts at 7:00 tonight through 5:00 tomorrow. they'll be coming out of the northeast and blowing to the southwest at 25 to 40 sustained, gusts up to 55, which means downed trees and power lines. there's a slight chance of an increase in fire danger, but there is not a red flag warning as a lot of the vegetaion is still very green. a lot of blowing debris, so what this advisory means is, we advise you to tie things down if you've put them outside or if you've, like, taken the lawn furniture out, maybe bring it back in for the night. here's a look at temperatures right now. upper 40s the beach, sunset to lake merced, 50 to 52 everywhere else in san francisco. looking at the hills, breezy commute for driving tonight, otherwise good. mass transit good. cool this morning and warm this afternoon at your stops. and the ferry ride, yeah, it will be a brisk one out on the bay, as you can see yellow everywhere. northwest winds south of the bay bridge, north winds north of the

bay bridge, all gusting up to around 30 miles per hour. all right, let's take a look at the south bay. 58 in the morning to 72 at noon. look at those mid-to-upper 70s from 2:00 all the way into 6:00 and still 70 degrees at 8:00. you're going to notice it's going to be mild this evening because the breezes are going to keep the temperatures up. here we are in the east bay. from 1:00 all the way through possibly 7:00, temperatures are going to be in the 80s. will you turn the air conditioning on when you get home tonight? that will be key to staying comfortable. otherwise, looks like a great weekend. it is going to be a little bit cooler for mother's day. we'll talk about that coming up. have you decided how you're celebrating your first mother's day or is it a surprise? >> it's not up to me, is it? you don't plan your own mother's day celebration. >> you can drop hints. >> oh, okay. how about an extra hour of sleeping in? that's all i want. >> ooh. >> we'll see. i don't think it's going to come true, but a mom can hope, right? taking a look at the roads here this morning, we don't have any major incidents. in fact, just a couple minor blocking issues. one of those in the east bay in

the alamo area. we did have a crash on northbound 680 just before you get to stone valley. sounds like possible injuries involved in this one, too, and they briefly were blocking the far right lane for just maybe about ten minutes or so, but they did push that off to the side, so that is no longer an issue and it really was not there long enough to cause any backup there. so no residual delays either. here's a live look at the south bay, san jose 101 and 880 slowly filling in on the northbound side, but that's about it so far this morning. i have good news in the oakland area. we'll check on that next. they even took the appliances! only on abc7 news, the unbelievable length some airbnb guests went to to ransack a bay area home. time to start making summer travel plans. the tips you need to know to get the maximum bang for your credit card reward

if you're traveling the holiday this weekend or traveling around the state during the holiday weekend, a couple of items i want you to be aware of. a red flag warning, high fire danger today from 3:00 to 11:00, and that's up in the sierra, that area you see in red. the high dessert's going to be windy. the mountains around los angeles, even out into the central valley's going to be windy for the better part of today and into tomorrow. temperatures running in the mid-to-upper 50s through the central valley, increasing sunshine, 64 in monterey, 92 in

palm springs, mid-to-upper 60s, definitely cooler around san diego and los angeles, and about 54 in tahoe, where thunderstorms are going to rain all throughout my seven-day forecast, starting tomorrow and to a greater extent monday and tuesday. >> mike, thank you. a nightmare for homeowners who rented their house out through airbnb. everything gone, even the appliances. sheriff's deputies and airbnb now looking into the ransacking and burglary of that home in discovery bay. this happened between sunday and thursday. the homeowner's daughter says her mom knew something was wrong when she checked the security camera early tuesday morning and it was out. well, the burglars took $10,000 worth of items, including the security camera. >> the tv's gone. everything in the kitchen, basically, all the appliances, like espresso machine, you know, blender, everything, heat lamps outside. >> and the burglars coated the floors, the steps, and the counters with vegetable oil in hopes of hiding their

fingerprints. airbnb says in a statement, they have zero tolerance for this kind of behavior. the renter is permanently banned from their platform and they promise to work with authorities and say the family will be supported with their million dollar host guarantee program. a warning if you use smart assistances like siri or alexa, hackers could take control of your smart device without you knowing it. uc berkeley researchers found that apple's siri, amazon's alexa and google's assistant can be hacked by commands hidden in music or spoken words. researchers have been able to dial phone numbers and open websites using this hack. they say the technology could be used to unlock doors, wire money or buy stuff online, simply with music playing on the radio or through your device. amazon, google, and apple say they're now taking steps to make sure their systems are more secure. summer vacation just around the corner, but traveling during the peak months can be a little pricey. >> it seems like the perfect time to cash in those credit card points and smiles.

peninsula today with 78 in redwood city. check out the mid-60s at the coast today to 70, low 70s in downtown, south san francisco and sausalito. low to mid-80s through the north bay valley, so maybe find some shade. mid-to-upper 70s throughout the east bayshore line. and as we head inland, low to mid-80s. tonight's going to be a milder night. look at these temperatures, upper 50s to low 60s. and that reason why? because it's going to be so breezy tonight. here's my accuweather seven-day forecast. carbon copy tomorrow and then mother's day because of the breeze back in the 50s, 60s and 70s. and we keep going cooler with a chance of drizzle wednesday and thursday morning. let's turn it over to alexis, see what she's watching. okay, we had an overnight chase pursuit with chp. it started for someone traveling at a high rate of speed in pittsburg and ended on the westbound highway 24 off-ramp to southbound 13. just got the all clear from chp. they did have that ramp closed for an investigation. that vehicle crashed on that really sharp curve there, and two people inside the vehicle were transported with some

you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. at 4:53, let's talk about temperatures nearing summer levels, like mid-80s around san ramon and san rafael. we've got upper 70s in hayward and brentwood city and san jose and even 70 in san francisco. temperatures about 4 to 11 degrees warmer than yesterday. we'll take a look at your mother's day day planner coming up next. >> thanks, mike. well, take a look at this wild scene at a milwaukee, wisconsin, gas station. surveillance video showing a police car pulling in front of a black sedan. officers shined a spotlight into the car, then back up. the driver of that car speeds forward. you can see it crash into that light pole. it then reverses before smashing through the front of the store. >> ooh. >> yeah. two officers move in with their guns drawn. a third struggled to get inside the damaged storefront. police say they took the 25-year-old driver into custody

and arrested two passengers for drug possession. no one inside the gas station, thank goodness, was hurt. starbucks is opening its bathrooms to anyone who needs them, not just for customers. that decision follows a recent incident in philadelphia where two black men were arrested at a starbucks. they asked to use the bathroom. they were turned away because they weren't paying customers. they later took a table without ordering anything, and the manager called police. officers arrested them for trespassing. that incident led to a public backlash, and starbucks has promised to train its employees about racial bias. 4:54 now. elon musk says the first boring tunnel is almost complete. he posted a video on instagram yesterday. it makes you a little nauseated. giving viewers a preview. he says following regulatory approvals, they may begin offering free rides to the public in a few months. the company will eventually have a series of tunnels creating a
