accuweather forecast. let's get to mike nicco. >> let's jump right into it and show you how the sea breeze has slowed considerably, only 12 miles per hour at fairfield and the rest of us less than 8 miles per hour. let's see what the sea lions are up to this morning. got a couple of them playing right there. let's talk about your accuweather 12-hour planner. low to mid-50s, a lot like yesterday at this time, but notice the coast is going to be in the 60s today. that's warmer. and notice by noon, we're already at average temperatures around our bay and inland neighborhoods, low to mid-70s. we'll hit the mid-70s to 80, above-average warmth with just about total sunshine at 4:00. breezes kick in around 7:00, and look how warm it's going to be this evening, 73 to 78. we'll talk more about those winds and mom's weekend, coming up. let's turn it over to alexis and find out about the commute. yeah, our main trouble spot is in hayward. southbound 880, right around industry parkway, a three to four-car crash likely with some injuries there. they are calling for at least one ambulance to the scene. so two right lanes are blocked

with the backup growing north of state route 92, putting our distance measuring tool on our maps there. you can see that's slow for about five miles. i did just double-check the drive time. looks like about a 15-minute delay right now. so, may want to avoid that if you're in a big hurry this morning and take some of the alternate routes. but we are looking really good here, friday light in a lot of other areas. here is walnut creek, southbound 680, moving along without any issues. next traffic update coming up right around 6:10. now, a live desk update from "abc7 mornings." >> in sunnyvale, a big search happening there throughout the night. it started about 11:00 p.m., and you can see how many police officers were out there from this new video overnight. a violent incident happened at a 7-eleven. we have few details. you see officers there with flashing lights searching the area of spins spinosa and templ drives. there is also a scene in a neighboring neighborhood. we have calls into sunnyvale

dps. we'll update you as soon as the new information, those new details come in throughout our newscast. reggie? >> jessica, thank you. new at 6:00, an officer-involved shooting in san francisco. police say officers were chasing two suspects connected to an auto burglary near steiner street and geary boulevard around 1:00 this morning. while officers detained one suspect, the other got into a car and drove away, leading officers on a chase. police say at one point near o'fairly and webster streets, the suspect hit two patrol cars and an officer opened fire. no one got hurt in the shooting. police eventually caught this man near civic center plaza. if you're heading to the airport this morning, you definitely won't be alone. mineta san jose says this could be a record-breaking day. >> and you're not wrong. it is not thanksgiving right now or a major holiday, but there is something coming up. they opened security lines early this morning, starting at 3:30. take a look. abc7 news reporter matt keller tweeting out this video less than an hour ago with big lines forming there. >> matt is live at the airport with what is behind this rush.

matt? >> reporter: all right, good morning, reggie and natasha. this is something i have never seen in my whole life here in san jose. the security line is actually gone down from the second floor all the way to the first floor, so all these people right here are being kind of narrowed into this one escalator to go up to the second floor. and you can see just how long the security line is. i've never seen this before in all the times i've been here at the san jose airport. so much so here that they were expecting this, that the tsa actually opened up security early this morning here in terminal "b," at 3:45 a.m. the message this morning, don't be caught off guard. >> do not be late to get to your gate. and another message is that summer has come early to mineta san jose international airport. but what's really going on here is that we at the airport here are experiencing record passenger traffic. >> reporter: yeah, this morning they're expecting to break another record for that traffic, that passenger traffic.

24,000 people, combined with the addition of new airlines and flights, summer travel season kicking off, some colleges letting out, mother's day weekend, and you had the recipe for a busy weekend. passengers are obviously noticing a difference. a lot of people are confused, wondering what was going on. they're a little upset that they're not able to get up to the security line. well, this is the security line, all the way down here on the second floor. a lot of people talking about -- a lot of the people from the google io, the developers conference from google. that is making it extra busy today as well. so, the message -- be prepared. the airport is recommending that everybody arrive here two hours before their flight leaves. reporting live in san jose, matt keller, abc7 news. >> not just an average friday. thanks, matt. take a look. this is one of seven debris dump sites in four counties, all dedicated to cleaning up from the north bay fires. crews have been working for seven months now. now they say most of the work is finished. fema and the california office of emergency services says this was the biggest clearing project since the 1906 earthquake. "the press democrat" reports the

government's cleanup will be done by the end of the month. >> i think everybody sort of underestimated the size, scope, and scale of the magnitude. >> and let's talk about the price tag. the state and federal government spent $1.3 billion removing 2.2 million tons of debris. a san francisco police officer with a questionable past is no longer with sfpd. the unnamed officer filed a complaint against the department last month, claiming he was harassed for being muslim and of african descent. this week we learned he was the subject of a napa police all points bulletin in 2013. police said that he lied to a woman on a dating website, saying that he was a high-level cia agent who was involved in the killing of osama bin laden. the officer's attorney says his client denies all of that and that he passed a lie detector and background check when he was accepted into san francisco's police academy. >> prosecutors from at least four california counties are meeting today to talk about trying the accused golden state

killer in one location for all 12 killings. santa barbara county's district attorney filed four murder charges against the suspect, joseph deangelo, yesterday. he already faced charges for two murders in sacramento county. all of the cases date back to the '70s and '80s. d'angelo remains in jail in sacramento. police believe he committed at least 12 murders and more than 50 rapes. we're learning new details about what happened days after this deadly tesla crash in mountain view. >> health alert. doctors warn of a surprising danger during an mri. the clothing now being banned. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. want to focus on the winds tonight, especially these areas shaded in yellow, above 1,000 feet. this is where we could have wind damage from gusts blowing northeast to southwest at about 55 miles per hour. so, if you have anything outside, make sure you lock it down before you go to bed tonight. and a live look at sky 7 over redwood city, where a car slammed into a home early this morning.

the areas cooler than yesterday is along the coast. temperatures 47 in daly city, 46 in pacifica, 45 in half moon

bay. go on to the other side, 47 at menlo park to 52 at san bruno. temperatures in the upper 40s around san ramon, livermore and napa, mid-50s around san jose and santa rosa. the golden gate will be breezy this afternoon, even with all the sunshine. in fact, this will be one of our brightest days at the beaches and one of our warmest. dress for cooler. that means it's going to be warmer out and about today, and on the bay, it will be breezy and choppy. south bay, 58 this morning, 65 at 10:00, low 70s by noon, very comfortable for outdoor eating. and then mid-to-upper 70s all the way through 6:00. still 70 at 8:00. east bay valleys, some of our warmest temperatures, really jumps out, doesn't it, from 1:00 through at least 7:00, temperatures in the 80s and still 76 at 8:00. all right, let's check on the morning commute. here's alexis. looking at the bay bridge toll plaza, metering lights are on as of 5:26 this morning. and those typical delays back into the maze. maybe a little lighter than the other four days of the workweek here. and of course, carpool lanes are

moving through just fine. we had a couple earlier trouble spots in the emeryville area, but those have cleared. westbound 580 tracy to dublin coming down, but in the red, at an hour exactly. southbound 680 dublin to mission boulevard looks good, wide open in the green at 14 minutes. and northbound 85, 101 to cupertino at 16 minutes. thanks. pleasanton police want you to look at this surveillance video. they're trying to identify a suspect who broke into a car outside food and beverage liquor store on stone ridge drive monday night. police say the suspect cased the store and the car beforehand. it's a pretty clear picture of him. he returned wearing a hoodie and a mask. well, first line took over san francisco with bicycles and scooters. now they're thinking bigger. >> san jose-based cisco cutting ties with youtube. the reason they won't be associated with the company anymore. and a live look as we head to break right now. you can see the situation that's unfolding. it looks like they're carting away that car that slammed into a house at 3793 farm hill

extremist content. the issue was first reported in a cnn investigation last month. many u.s. companies had their ads running next to content promoting white nationalists, nazis, pedophilia, and north korean propaganda. many of the companies told cnn they were not aware that their ads had had been placed on the channels, and now they're investigating. new details involving that deadly tesla crash on mountain view nearly two months ago. according to our media partner, "the mercury news," the car's high-voltage lithium-ion battery reignited while sitting in a tow yard. the revelation was included in a safety memo written last month by mountain view fire chief juan diaz. he tells "the merc" he issued the memo to protect firefighters in his department when dealing with future electric vehicle fires. 38-year-old walter wong died after his model x hit a safety barrier on highway 101. we have exclusive i-team reports about the tesla crash on our website, abc7news.com. do not wear athletic wear when you're having an mri. that is the warning from doctors who say there is metallic fiber

>> oreo. they're quite a pair. >> so sweet. >> aren't they? so far in age, though. let's look at what's happening outside. maybe a good day to walk the dog, more so this morning when it's milder. look at how calm the water is right now on the bay looking from the exploratorium camera at pier 15. that will not be the case starting at 3:00 today when the small craft advisory kicks in. sunny today, warmer than average. that's one of my accuweather highlights. tonight, milder, but watch out for the breezes in the hills. and it's going to be mild for mom and then the temperatures will start to tumble once again. actually, below average next week. here's a look at what's going on. notice nothing near us as the storm track is well to the north. this area of high pressure's taking over not only today but also tomorrow, and these will be our warmest days moving forward. starting with the microclimates in san francisco, downtown 70, but marina and the mission mid-70s there. richmond 69, sunset at 65 and daly city at 63. oakland 76. a lot of temperatures right around 75 to 77 degrees along the east bayshore. on the peninsula today,

mid-to-upper 70s. 76 at san mateo, but check out the coast, half moon bay 65, pacifica 63. all right, down to the south bay, just the beginning of the warmth here, 78. but look at some of the 80s creeping in around los gatos and gilroy. inland east bay neighborhoods, low to mid-80s, still comfortable. and up in the north bay, we'll also be mainly in the low to mid-80s with breezes developing this evening. it's going to keep our temperatures in the upper 50s low 60s in many areas tonight, so mild tomorrow. that will lead to about the same temperatures tomorrow, just not as breezy. then the sea breeze kicks in and it will be more comfortable for mom, except at the coast. temperatures closer to average next week. a little good news in the hayward area. southbound 880 just before industrial, three to four-car crash. we were blocking the two right lanes for about the last 30 minutes or so. fire department arrived. they were able to get everyone pushed off to the shoulder. so, all lanes are back open,

and no word on any other injuries. happening today, a judge considers if the ghost ship defendants should be let out of jail. >> yeah, both of them being held before their trial, and their attorney will argue that the law is on their side to let them go home. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield live for us in oakland. good morning, amy. >> reporter: good morning, natasha. yeah, a new order that came out in january will be tested today. it says the judges should consider alternatives to bail, especially for defendants who can't afford it. well, the attorneys in this case say that applies to their clients, derick almena and max harris. they say they have a better chance at fighting this case if they are out of jail. and they argue that the two are not a threat to society, that the crime that they're accused of was situational. they are charged with involuntary manslaughter, 36 counts for the 36 deaths in the ghost ship warehouse fire that happened in oakland. their trial is set for july 16th, but this morning they will

argue that they should be let out of jail between now and then. reporting live in oakland, amy hollyfie hollyfield, abc7 news. now, a live desk update from "abc7 mornings." >> i'm watching things closely in hawaii this morning for you, and tourists are being told stay out of the national park! scientists say that the kilauea volcano eruption won't be deadly, if people stay out of hawaii volcanos national park. the emergency in hawaii continues, in fact, getting so bad, the state's governor has now asked the president to declare the state a major disaster. kilauea continues to spew lava, as you can see, and overnight, new cracks developed. they're especially worried about cracks on highway 130, the main highway on the island. scientists think kilauea could have a major eruption at any moment. look at this. all that ash and steam could actually send boulders flying thousands of feet away, and we're talking huge boulders, six feet in diameter. back to you.

>> this is getting pretty serious, jessica. thank you. the chp is investigating a fatal hit-and-run on 580 in san leandro. a man was hit west of the 150th avenue on-ramp around 10:00 last night. the victim was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. several people called 911 reporting a pedestrian was down in the far right lane of the freeway. investigators don't have a description of the driver or the vehicle. 6:34 now. court fines and fees can add up, trapping low-income people in debt. that's why san francisco supervisors are considering a proposal to end fees associated with probation and electronic monitoring. according to "the examiner," the ordinance would cost the city about $1.2 million in lost revenue a year. supporters, though, say the benefits outweigh the cost. they say it will help people who have already served time for a crime move forward in life. the proposal passed in committee yesterday and now the full board will vote at a later date. a 16-year-old sophomore says it took just a matter of minutes

for him to hack into the grade system at ygnacio valley high school in concord. david rotaro was arrested wednesday morning. you see the video right there. after he left his home school. he says he created a phishing e-mail and sent it out to school staff. the teen says all he needed was just one username and password, and he got it. rotaro says he changed the grades of 10 to 15 classmates. he raised the grades of the people he liked and then dropped the grades for the kids he didn't like. he never actually got around to changing his own grades. >> i kind of want to give awayness to cybersecurity and that it's not only that people have good security, it's also the human mind that i was able to manipulate through the internet. and i actually kind of achieved the goal of kind of hacking the school. >> well, that's disturbing. rotaro is suspended for five days. he says he hopes he gets a second chance and promises not to do it again. a bill headed to governor

brown will give even more protection to undocumented immigrants in california. >> this would prevent lawyers from asking witnesses or victims their immigration status in court, unless it is relevant to a case. lawmakers say a lot of undocumented immigrants don't testify or even report crimes because they fear revealing they're here illegally will get them deported. >> no more of this wild west situation where attorneys go in the court and essentially harass immigrant witnesses by asking them about their immigration status. >> the measure will take effect immediately if the governor signs it. 6:36 now. a white house official facing major backlash for an insensitive comment she reportedly made about senator john mccain. "the hill" reporting it happened during a closed-door meeting yesterday after mccain said that he opposed the president's nominee for cia director. according to an unnamed source, press aide kelly sadler said "it doesn't matter, he's dying anyway." many of you know mccain battling brain cancer right now. he underwent surgery just last

month. his wife, cindy, tweeted at sadler yesterday, "may i remind you my husband has a family, seven children, and five grandchildren." their daughter, meghan mccain, will be addressing the comment today on "the view," and you can watch that here on abc7 at 10:00 a.m. a lot of confusion about exactly what happened with the central subway mix-up in san francisco. the city's blaming the contractor, tutor perini, for installing the wrong kind of steel, but "the examiner" reports the contractor says it's in full compliance. yesterday we told you crews may need to replace miles of track, further delaying the opening of the subway station in chinatown. the city says the contractor's at fault, buying and installing standard-strength steel instead of high-strength steel. >> we'll likely hear it on the committee i chair at government audit and oversight committee. we have to get a hold of these runaway contracts. >> the contractor installs or does anything that isn't specified within the contract, it's up to them tho replace tha.

>> the contractor says the agreement with the city didn't call for high-strength steel on that portion of the track. e-mails obtained by "the examiner" show sfmta knew what steel the contractor planned to buy back in 2015. you are never more than seven minutes from my accuweather forecast. let's talk a little bit about what's going on as far as the wind advisory. yeah, it's going to get really gusty tonight in places you see in yellow there, which is the north bay mountains, east bay hills and the diablo range, above 1,000 feet. winds will blow from northeast to southwest, up to 55 miles per hour. it could down some trees and power lines. more than likely, you'll just have a lot of debris in your yard, and possibly, if you don't lock down things, they could be blown over. the fire danger does increase any time the winds do, but everything's too green right now for a fire weather watcher red flag warning. temperatures upper 40s to low 50s through most of the south bay. the warm spot would be san jose at 53. we've got 49 in livermore, also

cupertino, redwood city, 53 in san pablo. here's the san mateo bridge. looks pretty busy there, doesn't it? but the sky's pretty quiet. it will be a little breezy this evening. mass transit cool this morning but warm this afternoon at your stops. and for a ferry ride, yeah, small craft advisory. there it is, starts at 3:00 this afternoon, goes through 9:00 this evening. winds across areas north of the bay bridge will be coming out of the north up to 30 miles per hour. south of the bay bridge, they'll be coming out of the northwest up to 30 miles per hour. so, driving across those high-profile bridges will also be an issue during the evening commute. what's the issue this morning? i want to take you back to sky 7, excuse me, live over the richmond-san rafael bridge, where we have this situation where a driver was, unfortunately, trying avoid a tarp that was blowing in the roadway and smashed into that wall instead. so, the driver got a ride off the bridge, but the vehicle is still there. airbags did deploy, and it is sounding like this vehicle is likely totaled. so, i did just see one truck stop in front of this.

i'm not sure if that was some help. i know they're calling for a tow truck to the scene, and chp has not arrived yet either. we'll see if that takes a lane away. right now it's not a terrible backup. it is stacked up a little bit, back to the toll plaza, but not much heavier than usual, honestly, since it is friday. and we've had lighter volumes. but we will definitely keep a close eye on that, especially since they may have to take a lane away for the tow truck. looking at the toll plaza camera, it is heavier than normal. and quickly flipping over to an earlier issue in hayward, a crash on southbound 880 just before industrial, 27 miles an hour, 18 miles an hour as that continues to unwind. okay, this is not here locally, but i want to show you a dramatic crash in milwaukee, wisconsin, caught on camera. a red pickup truck climbed the dividing wall on a highway, look at that. it took out not one but two light poles! nearby cars swerved out of the way of the falling pole and luckily there were no serious injuries. >> wow. >> deputies gave the driver a field sobriety test and arrested

thunderstorms saturday all the way through at least tuesday. >> thanks, mike. if you're headed to the airport this morning, you will definitely not be alone. >> mineta san jose says this could be a record-breaking day for the airport. but why is that? >> yeah, kind of strange timing. >> very strange. >> abc7 news reporter matt keller live at the airport getting answers for us this morning. >> reporter: good morning, reggie and natasha. more, more, more here at the san jose airport. we have more traffic, we have more airlines, we have more fligts flights, we have more people, and of course, that means that we have longer lines. the tsa actually opened up their security lines here in terminal "b" at 3:45 this morning. check this out. at 6:00 a.m., something i've never seen before here at the san jose airport, the security line extending from the second floor all the way down the escalator to the first floor. san jose airport officials say today they're expecting to break another record for the number of passengers at san jose's airport, 24,000 people. seven new airlines have started service here since 2014, and added 25 new routes.

now, live over the richmond-san rafael bridge. we have a crash on the upper deck, so the westbound side of 580. just one vehicle involved. unfortunately, bad start to the day for this driving, swerving to avoid a tarp that was reported in the roadway, crashed into that barrier on the side instead. airbags deployed, and they are saying that vehicle is likely totaled. we have not seen a tow truck yet. the backup was not terrible initially. as you can see, that is off on the side, but we're up to about a 10-12-minute backup now as you leave the toll plaza. so, sky 7 panning back, you can see that heavy traffic approaching. not the best there. it's not a huge backup yet, but keeping an eye on that. i think once the tow truck arrives, they may have to take a lane away to hook that up. 680, walnut creek to dublin 14 minutes, 101 santa rosa to san francisco, 56 minutes. and highway 1 to los gatos on 17 looking good. >> 6:52 now. today governor brown will release a revised budget plan,

which includes $96 million more to fight the threat of wildfires. part of the money will double the land that california protects through controlled burns and tree thinning to 500,000 acres. brown wants to reach out to more land owners to get them to reduce their vegetation. the governor says unless we take action now, california faces more disasters like the north bay wildfires. the number of registered republicans in california is now at a new low. according to the just-released numbers, democrats make up 44.5% of the state's electorate. that is up slightly from 2014. republicans make up 25.2% of the electorate, which is down from 2014. and it's about the same number of people who report no party preference or report an independent party at 25.1%. california has 19.8 million registered voters, and that sounds like a lot because it is. secretary of state alex padilla says it's the most we've seen in decades. if you aren't registered yet for the june 5th primary, do it soon. your deadline is 11 days away. starbucks opening its bathrooms to anyone who needs

them, not just customers. the decision following a recent incident in philadelphia where two african-american men were arrested at a starbucks. they had asked to use the bathroom but were turned away because they weren't paying customers. they later took a table without ordering anything and then the manager called police. officers arrested them for trespassing. that incident led to intense public backlash. starbucks has promised to train its employees about racial bias. well, run for your lives! new video from the rodebotics company boston dynamics shows atlas the robot now knows how to sprint. this is a big deal. we saw a previous version before where atlas was completely tethered. well, now he can run and jump and leap and sprint free. atlas recognizes obstacles on his own and can jump over them. have you seen this update on boston dynamics' robot dog? this is spot mini walking freely around the office.
