it is saturday, may 12. good morning and thanks so much for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. let's get a first look of the forecast. lisa argen is tracking the conditions where you live. >> good morning. we are looking at a nice start to the day. in fact, it is mild. many temperatures in the 60s this morning. here is live doppler 7, you can see some of the fog south of san francisco and that is what we'll focus on today. that southerly surge, it cool off the city but not quite for the rest of us. so looking at 24 hour temperature change, we are anywhere from 12 to 15 degrees warmer from oakland to san francisco. just a couple degrees warmer on the coast. but even inland, livermore 14 degrees milder this morning. so sitting in the 60s for

oakland, san francisco, how about 68 in san mateo, 65 in mountain view, 56 in santa rosa. a lot of that is due to the gusty winds keeping at loss fth atmosphere well mixed. and so 50s and 60s to start. by noontime, mid 70s. it is a mild morning, the coast gets breezy. still some 80s inland. details in a few minutes. happening today, a major event is pumping some positive energy and money into the north bay where residents and businesses are still recovering from last october's wildfires. cornell barnard has the story. >> reporter: if swimming, biking and running long distances is your thing, the iron man triathlon says bring it. >> we have almost 2,000 athletes competing from 47 countries. >> reporter: it is second year iron man has staged its race across sonoma county, just

in sight. in santa rosa, cornell barnard, abc 7 news. three people were hurt when this deck collapsed in the backyard of a two story home near mills college in oakland. sky 7 was over the home after the deck crashed to the ground around 1:30 yesterday afternoon. an oik lafire department spokes says two people were taken to the trauma center. and this morning we're hearing from a san francisco mayoral candidate under fire proposal to eliminate some of the sanction cluary city protec. >> we will fight. >> reporter: protesters are upset, angela alioto is trying to change the sanctuary policy. it would remove protections for violence felons. on the board of supervisors back in 1989, she authored the original sanctuary city ordinance. subsequent supervisors changed it, she says this initiative

gets it back to her original intent. >> the intent of that legislation was never to protect felons. quiblg convicted felons before. >> reporter: critics say that she uses trump talking points for political gain. >> this is not the climate to do and i think it is irresponsible to even propose something like that. >> reporter: fellow mayoral candidate mark leno pulled his endorsement of alioto. >> she has used donald trump's language of suggesting and promoting his myth that immigrants are, quote, murderers, rapists and molests. this is very dangerous language. >> why to they want felons? someone needs to explain to me why do they want felons. >> reporter: the petition needs more than 9,000 signatures to make it on the ballot. katie utehs, abc 7 news. you can see video statements from each of the eight

she took it too far. we're talking 65,000 text messages in the last few months, chilling threats. according to police report, some read, quote, i don't want to be a murderer. police reports say that she also texted the vehicle dim saying that she would cut up his body, wear his body parts and bathe in his blood. >> i don't want to talk about that. >> reporter: she did not want to talk about the alleged stalking or harassment. she ignored questions about showing up at his work, claiming to be his wife. or allegedly breaking in to his home and bathing in his tub. when we asked her if she would actually hurt him -- >> no. oh, my god, i love him so much. i love him so much. and if he doesn't like it, i'll go home and love my ex-boyfriend. what am i supposed to do? >> and that was sonia rossu reporting. she will be in court next week. and time now is 5:06. fremont police have recovered

the body found in the marshlands. the dekon konlcomposing male discovered yesterday around bike a hiker. officials with the coroner's bureau used a drone and specialized boat to find and recover the body. a nigerian woman has founila discrimination lawsuit against united articles after being kicked off a flight because someone complained she had pun gant odor. it happened on a flight change in houston back into 16 when she was traveling with her kids. a man business class told the flight crew that she smelled. she was put on another plane five hours later. facebook is planning to expand its presence in san francisco in a very big way. the "san francisco chronicle" reports the company is expected

to lease all of the office space on howard street. the new building has 750,000 square feet of office space over 43 floors, this is video from the property management company jll which declined to comment on the report. facebook will now have enough space to accommodate 8,000 workers in san francisco. happening today, the largest food drive in the country is celebrating its 26th year. today is the stamp out hunger food drive. mail carriers collect nonperishable food items to deliver to food banks. on donate, just place a box or bag of food next to your mail box or bring to your local post office. the annual event has collected more than 1.5 billion pounds of food. lisa argen is here and not too cold overnight. >> no, you noticed temperatures are well into the 60s in many areas. but it won't last. here a live look outside from our sutro tower camera, where

sfo lastly? congestion here is being blamed on the number of uber and lyft cars that pick up and drop off passengers. sfo thinks they found a solution. they now want to charge premium pricing for curbside access, but a lower fare would be charged to those who are willing to walk to the central garage. the top 4re68 would level wouldd to a drop off and pick up area. this san francisco couple didn't mind paying more. >> we consider things like our age now, the convenience of coming door to door. >> reporter: and this woman is fine with the two tier pricing structure. >> walking a little to save the price, that is why we get uber. >> depending how much. >> reporter: the difference in price is still being ghoesh yatesed betwe e negotiated between the ride sharing companies and the airport. regardless of what they decide, the airport commission says the new fees will be in place by july 1.

to the south here and that will be influencing our weather certainly along the coast today. but not inland. we're still going to be warm compliments of offshore owinds that can keeping temperatures well into the 60s. right now 5:00 numbers, look at this, 65 concord, livermore 64. 63 san francisco. oak land mid-60s san mateo. along the coast, a little cooler in the 50s. 56 santa rosa, and 50 half moon bay. so nice downtown. gusty winds are in the upper elevations. and that wind advisory has been canceled, so the winds will continue to slack off. and we're looking at sunny and mild conditions to warm conditions again today. partly cloudy and cooler for mother's day. you will feel that fog, that impact later on daifd. check out where the fog is, it is along the central coast. and as we put this in motion throughout the late morning hours, it moves up the shoreline. that southerly surge. so the winds will get quite gusty at our beaches in the

city, but we'll still be warm inland. let's fast forward to mother's day where temperatures are considerably cooler in the low 70s inland, 60s around richmond, upper 50s san francisco. so today is about it if you like the warmth. monday little change, 70s again. and then by tuesday, even a little cooler. notice the greens here indica indicating the cooler conditions for early next week. so average highs should be in the 70s for santa rosa, and we'll be well above that with 82 today. but look what happens for the rest of the weekend into early next week. highs well below average. and it looks like it will take all week long to recover back into the 70s. so in the south bay today, it will be on the warm side. near 80. 79 in san jose. upper 70s, 77 in sunnyvale. you will feel the breezy winds, that southerly surge from the south today with peninsula numbers ranging from the mid-70s san mateo, upper 70s palo alto, san francisco.

but it will become breezy throughout the afternoon. authority b north bay numbers, 82. so a warm day here. and near east bay, a nice afternoon with 76 in san leandro. you head inland, another warm day with the 80s from about 81 san ramon, 82 pittsburg. so the last day of the really warm weather is today. in fact you will feel the change later on this afternoon on the peninsula and san francisco. the accuweather 7 day forecast, 60s coast, upper 70s around the bay. mid-80s inland for mother's day, much cooler anywhere from 10 to 15 degrees cooler. and that theme will continue into monday. the cooling continues tuesday and wednesday. download our accuweather app and you can keep track of all those temperatures around the bay. it will be a big dramatic change later on today between san francisco and the coast. >> lisa, thanks. happening today, you have a chance to hear from spencer

great to have you with us. i'm chris nguyen. we're starting with a quick look at the weather. here is lisa argen. >> good morning. boy, it is a glorious start to the weekend with temperatures very mild. the sun comes up in another 30 minutes. 6: 6:02. you can see you how clear it is. we have some winds in the upper elevations keeping it mild. look at that, low to mid-60s san francisco, oakland, mountain view. in the 40s though in gilroy, 58 in san jose. 50 half moon bay. this is san rafael where we have another beautiful start to the day with 60s in napa. but santa rosa has dropped into the 50s as well as novato. concord at 65. so yes this morning considerably warmer compared to yesterday at this time. 12 degrees warmer for you in pal low all toe and mountain view. and we're looking at some very

breezy winds in the upper elevations. so we will enjoy the warmth today. it will get breezy though along the coast later on. now to the controversy swirling over what was said inside the white house about senator john mccain who is battling brain cancer. mccain expressed strong reservations over the president's choice to lead the cia. it's been learned that during a meeting at the staffer said that his opinion didn't matter because he's dying anyway. now his daughter is asking how is this person still employed. here is mary bruce. >> reporter: no explanation, no acknowledgement, and no apology from the white house. >> i won't validate a leak one way or on the other out of an internal staff meeting. >> reporter: press secretary sarah sanders repeatedly refusing to address comments made by a white house ehire adrianza who dismissed john mccain's on that on position to the president's nominee to lead the cia saying it doesn't matter, he is dying anyway.

role in enhanced interrogation saying her refusal to acknowledge torture's immorality is disqualifying. mccain himself was tortured during his 5 1/2 years as a p.o.w. in vietnam. but on fox business retired lieutenant general disparaged mccain's experience. >> the fact is it worked on john. that is why they call him song bird john. >> reporter: but there is no evidence that mccain caved under pressure, instead giving his captors false information. the host of that fox business program later apologized. but there is another apology mccain still has yet to receive, one from the president who fa famously questioned mccain's past during the campaign. >> he is not a war hero. he's a war hero because he was captured. i like people that weren't captured. >> reporter: mary bruce, abc new, washington. governor jerry brown has released the final budget proposal with the goal of leaving the state in better financial shape than he found it eight years ago.

the governor's $199 billion spending plan puts aside nearly $9 billion in california's rainy day fund. the package does call for some additional spending to help the growing homeless problem as well as money for schools, state buildings and mental health programs. the governor says lawmakers shouldn't be giddy over california's projected surplus. >> the legislature will have some idea, we'll work together. but i can tell you all the people that want things nts would be getting what they like to have. >> reporter: the budget surplus is $3 billion more than the governor had projected in january thanks mostly to higher than expected tax revenues. some of the world's top automakers met with president trump yesterday. the current administration wants to roll back some of the box era policies that are now in place. but california is against it. talking about the future of the country's auto industry, president trump hinted at signs of cooperation but maintained

his promise to put america first. >> we have a great capacity to building. we're importing a lot of cars and we want a lot of those cars to be made in the united states to which automakers, the president instructed his administration to explore negotiations with california. automakers are concerned about the potential of having to engineer and produce two versions of each of their vehicle models if california is able to maintain its own set of standards. immediately after the meeting, a group of ten democratic lawmakers sent a letter to auto executives defending the obama era regulations. bay area congressman mark desonia was one them. >> they are talking out both sides of their mouth, playing up trump saying that we need more flexibility, we want national standard. on the other hand, they are saying we want to deal with california. >> reporter: this monthle came cal was joined by 17 other states in suing the trump administration over its plan to reconsider the standards. current rules call for an average of about 50 miles per

hour per gallon by 2025, but epa officials have been circulating the dlaft would freeze the federal limits at 2020 levels and would challenge the california authority to set its own rules. whether to say this is about jobs or more choices for people in cars diminishes and fails to mention the health consequences. >> reporter: automakers have been lobbying the trump administration to revisit the requirements saying that they will have trouble reaching them because more people are buying truck and suvs than ever before. the trump administration is ending a project that measures greenhouse gases. the program led by nasa uses satellite and aircraft instruments to monitor methane and carbon monoxide emissions. it has been critical to help scientists measure and analyze global pollution. scientists or critics say without the information, it will be harder to create policies that limit climate change and its effects.

a parade at walt disney world in orlando took an unexpected turn when the dragon float caught fire. it happened yesterday, you can see it here, during the festival of fantasy parade. cellphone video shows flames and thick black smoke shooting from the head before an employee used a fire ex-extinguisher. thankfully no one was hurt. happening today, a gun buy back event in daily city. the police department is offer g $100 for handguns, shotguns and rifles. assault rifles can be exchanged for $200. the weapons must be unloaded and either in the trunk or in a locked storage box in the back of your car. the buy back event starts at 10:00 this morning at city hall. and a sport that goes back to the days of lumberjacks floating on giants logs down a river is coming to the bay area but with the high tech twist.

i don't kn jonathan bloom headed to the pool for a lesson in log rolling. >> reporter: michael has never done this before. >> definitely threw me off my first couple tries. i needed some help. >> reporter: and help is right here. for abby, log rolling run in the family. >> my mom is a seven time world log rolling champion. >> reporter: she has done it since she was a kid, but back then, they were real logs made of wood. >> they weighed 500 pounds and it was so difficult to bring them into swimming pools. >> reporter: so abby helped design this plastic log you fill with water. here she is trying the first prototype. now she's traveling around to start log rolling programs at pools across the country. >> she is teaching me and my staff how to teach this to the kids. >> reporter: kids and maybe a klutzy reporter. in case you couldn't tell, standing up on the log and staying up is a lot harder than

spectacular mother's day. i'm larry beil. it was a warm day yesterday, the or shore winds allowed mid-80s. and as we look out right now, a beautiful start to your saturday with clear skies. you can't tell, but there is still gusty winds in the upper elevations. those offshore winds keeping us warm this morning as well as retaining the heat from yesterday. so if you like the warm weather, we have another day of it, but after that, things really beginning to change out there. so we are look at temperatures coming way up today and then they will be down the next several days. from emeryville, you will notice temperatures are certainly on the warm side. we'll line those up for you in a minute. and looking at where we should be for this time of year, we are well above average. here is a look at temperatures in san francisco 63, oakland low 60s. mountain view 65.

on the peninsula maybe, perhaps in the north bay you will feel those winds later on. but as a result of that, we'll continue to get that fog into the bay overnight tonight and then everyone experiences the cooling. but for today, look at the 80s, still alive here in concord, 82 there. 79 san jose. vallejo, 80. 83 santa rosa. mother's day tomorrow, waking up to fog for everyone. 40s and 50s. and then by the afternoon, lots of sunshine, but it will be much cooler. 5 to 10 degrees cooler, maybe even 20 degrees cooler in spots with those afternoon highs in the 70s for the warmest locations instead of the 80s. so it will be a big cooldown and that trend continues as we get to the workweek. but overnight lows tonight, all that fog pushing into the bay, well into our inland east bay. that allows temperatures to be fairly uniform in the 50s.
