. it is saturday, may 12. thanks so much for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with a look at the forecast. lisa argen is tracking the conditions where you live. >> good morning. have you noticed how warm it is this morning? nice and clear and temperatures are really mild. live doppler 7 picking up on some fog along the peninsula and that will influence our weather along the coast today. we're 11 to 13 degrees warmer this morning than yesterday. from the offshore flow to all the heat we had yesterday into the mid-80s inland, it is mild. you can see the flags blowing there. low 60s san francisco, oakland. 65 mountain view and san jose at 62. cooler in gilroy. and from sutro, you will see it is clear. and we're 63 in livermore.

so emeryville, sunny dayton, war today, cooler at the coast. and happening today, a major event is pumping some positive energy and money into the north bay where residents and businesses are still recovering from last october's wildfires. colonrnell barnard has the stor. >> reporter: if swimming, biking and running long distances is your thing, the iron man triathlon says bring it. >> we have almost 2,000 athletes competing from 47 countries. >> reporter: it is second year iron man has staged its race across so sonoma county, just what local businesses need. >> it's been a little slow, but i think things are starting to bounce back. >> reporter: kelly has put out the welcome sign. and ray plans to serve a lot of beer and food at his restaurant belly after a challenging year.

>> sonoma county, we're still here, growing and we're bigger and better than ever. >> this is great for the community, great for us. you couldn't be in a better environment. i'm from wisconsin, so good to be here this time of year. fantastic. >> reporter: sadly business never recovered after the fires for lucy's french chocolate shop. she will close this weekend for good after six years in business. >> it's not an easy decision, but it doesn't make sense to keep pushing forward when you know that it will take much longer for the community to come back. >> reporter: elsewhere, things are looking up and coming back. this weekend, the finish line is in sight. in santa rosa, cornell barnard, abc 7 news. three people were hurt when this deck collapsed in the backyard of a two story home near mills college in oakland. sky 7 was over the home after the deck crashed to the ground around 1:30 yesterday afternoon.

a fire department spokesman says two people were taken to the trauma center. and this morning we're hearing from a san francisco mayoral candidate under fire for proposal to eliminate some of the sanctuary city protections. indicate tu katie utehs spoke with angela alioto. >> we will fight. >> reporter: protesters are upset, angela alioto is trying to change the sanctuary policy. it would remove protections for violent felons. on the board of supervisors back in 1989, she authored the original sanctuary city ordinance. subsequent supervisors changed it, she says this initiative gets it back to her original intent. >> the intent of that legislation was never to protect felons. convicted felons. >> reporter: critics say that she uses trump talking points for political gain. >> this is not the climate to do and i think it is irresponsible to even propose something like

one date is now speaking out in a jailhouse interview. reporter sonia rossu has the story. >> i was looking for my healing angel, the psychic i met told me i would meet a healing angel. >> reporter: she met him on a dating site where millions go to find love. and if you ask jacqueline, the spark was instant. >> i felt like i met my soul mate and i thought we would just do what everybody else did and we would get married and everything would be fine, but that's not what happened. >> reporter: the spark was one-sided when the victim told her he wasn't interested. >> you don't stop giving even if you don't receive. you all of a sudden receive a lot. >> reporter: that is one way to look at love. but paradise valley police say she took it too far. we're talking 65,000 text messages in the last few months, chilling threats. according to police report, some read, quote, i don't want to be a murderer. police reports say that she also texted the victim saying that

she would cut up his body, wear his body parts and bathe in his blood. >> i don't want to talk about that. >> reporter: she did not want to talk about the alleged stalking or harassment. she ignored questions about showing up at his work, claiming to be his wife. or allegedly breaking in to his home and bathing in his tub. when we asked her if she would actually hurt him -- >> no. oh, my god, i love him so much. i love him so much. and if he doesn't like it, i'll go home and love my ex-boyfriend. what am i supposed to do? >> and that was sonia rossu reporting. addis will be in court next week. time is 6:06. fremont police have recovered the body found in the marshlands. the decomposing male body was still clothed when it was discovered yesterday by a hiker. officials with the coroner's bureau used a drone and specialized boat to find and recover the body.

a nigerian woman has filed a discrimination lawsuit against united airlines after being kicked off a flight because someone complained she had pungent odor. it happened on a flight change in houston back into 16 when she was traveling with her kids. a man business class told the flight crew that she smelled. she was put on another plane five hours later. facebook is planning to expand its presence in san francisco in a very big way. the "san francisco chronicle" reports the company is expected to lease all of the office space on howard street. the new building has 750,000 square feet of office space over 43 floors, this is video from the property management company jll which declined to comment on the report. facebook will now have enough space to accommodate 8,000 workers in san francisco. happening today, the largest food drive in the country is

the indefinite closure of the volcano national park. conditions could lead to a major explosion within the next few days. there is so many congestion, that the airport commission is expected to pass a two tier pricing system. lyanne melendez has the details. >> reporter: have you been to sfo lately? done guess is being blamed on the number of uber amend lyft cars. sfo now wants to charge premium appliesing for on curbside access, but a lower fare would be charged to those willing to walk to the central garage. the top level would be converted to a dropoff and pickup area. the sacramento couple doesn't mind paying more. >> we consider things like our age now.

the convenience of coming door to door. >> reporter: and this woman is fine with the two tier pricing structure. >> walking a little to save the price, that is why we get uber. >> depending how much. >> reporter: the difference in price is still being negotiated between the ride sharing companies and the airport. regardless of what they decide, the airport commission says the new fees will be in place by july 1. here is how uber responded, the proposed fee increase goes against sfo's consumer friendly approach and will not help to reduce congestion at the airport. meanwhile the taxi companies say that the new structure is favor since they are not allowed to pick up passengers at curbside. >> i'm glad, they deserve it. >> why? >> for the cab drivers. >> reporter: the extra funding would go directly to sfo for roadway maintenance and improvement. lyanne melendez, abc 7 news.

now to the running robot terrorizing the internet. new video from boston dynamic shows atlas the robot sprinting. it can also recognize objestacl and jump over them. and spot is navigating through its facility detecting and avoiding obstacles with ease. yesterday the lab announced anyone can buy the robots starting next year. happening today, college students across the bay area are getting ready to graduate. today marks the start of commencement ceremonies. uc berkeley chancellor carol crist will take the place of senator kamala harris as commencement speaker. harris withdrew from the event earlier in the support of striking uc workers. the uc system has offered a 3% annual raise. cal's commencement starts at 10:00 at memorial stadium. other commencements today include mills college in

live doppler 7, you can see a little bit of fog on the peninsula and it will influence our weather today at the beaches and as we look at santa cruz, temperatures today in the upper 60s, fog and low clouds early, but it will be sunny and cooler here, becoming quite gusty closer to home along ocean beach and half moon bay. 64 san francisco, 63 oakland. mountain view a mild 65 with 62 in san jose. gilroy, yes, 46. 50 at the coast. and from emeryville, a nice sunny start out there. it will be warm inland again with mid-80s yesterday. just about as warm today. but changes elsewhere from santa rosa to napa. right now 50s and 60s. 57 in novato. and the camera is shaking a bit the upper elevations, anywhere from 20 to 40-mile-per-hour wind gusts. livermore at 63. and so these are winds at the surface, direction out of the north. this is the offshore flow. so although they don't -- it is

not that windy at the surface, the direction is for the warmer air to stay with us throughout the morning hours. 30 miles per hour in mt. tam and you can see some of the colors indicating the gusts out there. so we'll continue to dial back throughout the day and they will be replaced with a gusty flow. and golden gate bridge, it is nice and clear. but things will be changing. gusty winds in the upper elevations to start out and then sunny and mild to warm again today. at the coast though, conditions will be changing and we'll look for partly cloudy and cooler conditions for everyone tomorrow. so 8:00 this morning, we still are sunny, but as we go through the late morning hours, here comes the southerly surge and that will cool off the north bay, san francisco, peninsula, you will feel the breeze. and expected highs today cooler there than we were yesterday. but elsewhere, it will be warm again today, but we'll skip ahead to mother's day where temperatures coming way down at least 10 degrees.

more than that along the coast and around the brey. but look what happens into monday, very little change. low 70s again with 64 in richmond. and into tuesday, we're still on the cool side with temperatures more in line with a little below average. so get set for a cooler week ahead. today though, santa rosa, 82. the average high in the 70s. so 60s for tomorrow and much of the early week. look for the 80s again north bay. east bay, upper 60s to 23450ene in santa cruz. the 7 day forecast, today warmest day of the week. 60s at the coast. upper 70s around the bay. a big cooldown for mother's day. everyone waking up to fog. and then a sunny afternoon. more clouds around on monday, but cooling continues for tuesday and wednesday below average. and we'll keep that trend right on through the end of the week.

great to have you with us. i'm chris nguyen. we're starting with a quick look at the weather. here is lisa argen with a preview of the accuweather forecast. >> check it out, a nice looking sunrise from san rafael this morning. it is mild around the bay area with temperatures warmer than we were yesterday at this hour. in fact we're looking at all those 60s from san francisco, oakland, mountain view and is an row say wi is an row say. half moon bay is 50. and this is the view from mt. tam. 62 in napa with 64 fair field, 63 livermore, concord 59. so a 24 hour temperature change shows that we are much milder

this morning. enjoy it, changes come as early as today. we won't be as warm, in fact you will feel the gusty winds. it will be in the 70s by noontime. still very mild all morning long, inland around the bay, the coast stays cool with the fog moving up from the south. and by 4:00 this afternoon, we're still pretty warm inland, but it will be breezy at our beaches. and temperatures in will be hard pressed to make it into the low 60s. we'll talk in detail about mother's day. and now to the controversy swirling over what was said inside the white house about senator john mccain who is battling brain cancer. mccain expressed strong reservations over the president's choice to lead the cia. it's been learned that during a meeting at the white house, a staffer said that his opinion didn't matter because he's dying anyway. now his daughter is asking how is this person still employed. here is mary bruce. >> reporter: no explanation, no acknowledgement, and no apology from the white house.

>> i won't validate a leak one way or on the other out of an internal staff meeting. >> reporter: press secretary sarah sanders repeatedly refusing to address comments made by a white house aide who dismissed john mccain's opposition to the president's nominee to lead the cia saying it doesn't matter, he is dying anyway. mccain is battling brain cancer. on the view his daughter meghan suggested history is on her father's side. >> my father's legacy will be talked about for hundreds of years. these people, nothing burgers. >> reporter: and she wondered why the aide kelly sadler still has a job. >> i don't understand what kind of environment you are working in where that would be acceptable and still have a job. >> his daughter wondered aloud why kelly saddler still has job. does she still have a job. >> i won't comment on an internal staff meeting. >> reporter: cindy mccain tweeting directly, may i remind

you my husband has family, accept children and five grandchildren. former vice president joe biden saying decency in the trump administration has hit rock bottom. the attack on mccain came a day after the senator forcefully oppose trump's pick for cia director gina haspel over her role in enhanced interrogation saying her refusal to acknowledge torture's immorality is disqualifying. mccain himself was tortured during his 5 1/2 years as a p.o.w. in vietnam. but on fox business retired lieutenant general disparaged mccain's experience. >> the fact is it worked on john. that is why they call him song bird john. >> reporter: but there is no evidence that mccain caved under pressure, instead giving his captors false information. the host of that fox business program later apologized. but there is another apology mccain still has yet to receive, one from the president who famously questioned mccain's past during the campaign.

>> he is not a war hero. he's a war hero because he was captured. i like people that weren't captured. >> reporter: mary bruce, abc news, washington. governor jerry brown has released the final budget proposal with the goal of leaving the state in better financial shape than he found it eight years ago. the governor's $199 billion spending plan puts aside nearly $9 billion in california's rainy day fund. the package does call for some additional spending to help the growing homeless problem as well as money for schools, state buildings and mental health programs. the governor says lawmakers shouldn't be giddy over california's projected surplus. >> the legislature will have some ideas, we'll work together. but i can tell you all the people that want things won't be getting what they like to have. >> reporter: the budget surplus is $3 billion more than the governor had projected in january thanks mostly to higher than expected tax revenues.

some of the world's top automakers met with president trump yesterday. the current administration wants to roll back some of the box era policies that are now in place. but california is against it. talking about the future of the country's auto industry, president trump hinted at signs of cooperation but maintained his promise to put america first. >> we have a great capacity to building. we're importing a lot of cars and we want a lot of those cars to be made in the united states. >> reporter: in a meeting with to which automakers, the president instructed his administration to explore negotiations with california. automakers are concerned about the potential of having to engineer and produce two versions of each of their vehicle models if california is able to maintain its own set of standards. immediately after the meeting, a group of ten democratic lawmakers sent a letter to auto executives defending the obama era regulations. bay area congressman mark desonia was one them. >> they are talking out both sides of their mouth, playing up trump saying that we need more

flexibility, we want national standard. on the other hand, they are saying we want to deal with california. >> reporter: this month was joined by 17 other states in suing the trump administration over its plan to reconsider the standards. current rules call for an average of about 50 miles per hour per gallon by 2025, but epa officials have been circulating the draft would freeze the federal limits at 2020 levels and would challenge the california authority to set its own rules. whether to say this is about jobs or more choices for people in cars diminishes and fails to mention the health consequences. >> reporter: automakers have been lobbying the trump administration to revisit the requirements saying that they will have trouble reaching them because more people are buying truck and suvs than ever before. the trump administration is ending a project that measures greenhouse gases. the program led by nasa uses satellite and aircraft

instruments to monitor methane and carbon monoxide emissions. it has been critical to help scientists measure and analyze global pollution. scientists or critics say without the information, it will be harder to create policies that limit climate change and its effects. a parade at walt disney world in orlando took an unexpected turn when the dragon float caught fire. it happened yesterday, you can see it here, during the festival of fantasy parade. cellphone video shows flames and thick black smoke shooting from the head before an employee used a fire ex-extinguisher. thankfully no one was hurt. happening today, a gun buy back event in daily city. the police department is offering $100 for handguns, shotguns and rifles. assault rifles can be exchanged for $200. the weapons must be unloaded and either in the trunk or in a locked storage box in the back of your car. the buy back event starts at
