good morning. thanks for joining us on this sunday, may 13th. happy mother's day. let's start with a quick look at the weather with our meteorologist. >> it's a gray start for most of you. visibility has improved. we have temperatures much cooler at this hour. 15 degrees cooler. santa rosa and concord. here is a live look at sunshine in san jose where temperatures are hitting about 60 there. a little bit more sun. the north end of bay here is san rafael. it will take a while for things to clear out. 60 in concord. the winds in the upper elevations still quite gusty.

50s to start out. by noontime it's staying brisk along the coast with low 70s. mpblt n new problems this morning for tesla after a crash involving one of its cars. the top engineer is taking a leave of absence. he's not leeing the company but it's unclear when he'll be back on the job. abc news reporter will carr has the dedales on the latest crash that's raising more safety questions. >> reporter: this morning this tesla mangled. the front of car ripped to sh d shre shreds. investigators

investigators. tesla said we're glad no one was seriously injured. the system that's at the center of the ntsb probe in this deadly crash that killed an apple engineer back in march. >> anything in the automotive space will need to be brought in overtime and build in a way on safety and what's going on when people are using the product. >> reporter: friday's crash comes on the heel offense a fatal crash just last week. witnesses say the car burned so hot, no one had chance. it's now the focus of four ntsb

investigatio investigations. the founder, elon musk clashed. >> tesla is the focus of a lot of scrutiny. in part because they bring it on themselves by never backi iningn when any questions are raised and also because they have one of the most advanced products out there. >> a source says a battery reignited back in march. this morning an oakland family stranded in florida for weeks after a deadly car crash is back home. the griffin children were in florida helping a family member move here to california when their mother died in a car crash along with her sister, her sister's boyfriend, nephew and another driver. united airlines donated flights for the children who could not afford to come back home because of funeral costs. they returned to sfo late last

night. they range in age from 5 to 15 years old. the oakland unified school district is sharing the family's story. it's an effort to help raise money. a go fund me account has been created to help with their living expenses. if you diened at a chili's restaurant, your information may have been hacked. they operate several restaurants here in the bay area. the company has not revealed which strunts we-- restaurants were affected. we have an update on a story we shared friday night on abc 7 ews.hared friday night on abc 7 sonoma county sheriff's deputies have arrested man suspected of stealing rainbow flags. six flags were taken from a poll

outside the chamber of commerce. one of them ended up being tossed into the russian live. detectives believe the man suspected of stealing two of the flags threatened to set off a pipe bomb to harm members of the lgbtq community. happening today, families will walk across the golden gate bridge in unity and spirit. let's take a live look right now at the bridge. the group organizing the event is code pink which describes its mission as working for peace and social justice. they say the orangeal purpose of mother's day was to unite women to end war. at noon people will gather on either end of walkway and meet in the middle. there will be rally after the walk. in paris authorities are investigating the terror attack in the cities's bustling

district. the man killed one and hurt several others. isis is claiming the attacker was one of its soldiers. >> reporter: this morning a city on edge as terror strikes the heart of paris. just after 9:00 p.m. local time in a busy tourist location near the paris opera house a suspect wielding a knife viciously attacked pedestrians at random. witnesses say they heard him shouting before leaving a 29-year-old man dead and four more injured. two of the victims seriously wounded. french police swarming the scene, engaging with the attacker before fatally shooting him. officials say the knife man born in the russian republic in 1997 tried to enter several bars and restaurants but were blocked by people hiding inside. you can see people fleeing the scene of the attack. this eyewitness say he saw the knife man take his coat off and jump on a policeman.

when officers tried to tase him, they fired the fatal shots. the interior minister tweeting they honored their uniforms. paris prosecutor saying considering the method of the attack, counter terrorism authorities are leading the investigation on potential charges of murder and attempted murder in connection with a terrorist enterprise. french president sending thoughts to the victims condemning the attack tweeting france is once again paying the price of blood. paris has been under higher security in recent years after several deadly extremist attacks. isis claiming responsibility for more than 230 deaths since 2015. high winds are causing

trust antonio for governor. more fissures have opened up on the big island of hawaii. this is all playing out against the backdrop of growing concerns over a potential major eruption. an eruption that could happen at any moment. abc news reporter that latest. t >> reporter: this morning that fountain of lava violently gushing from new cracks in the ground. >> people are starting to panic. >> reporter: 17 fissures opening on the big island in the past week and a half. many destructively tearing through neighborhoods. this opened up in a wooded area nowhere near any homes but that lava is spewing 40 feet into the air. it's so powerful you can feel the vibration from it. if it grows or others open it

valley. it's a time trial. sunday morning, mother's day. happy one to you if you're celebrating. widespread fog this morning. we're beginning to see holes in the overcast down by the airport across the bay. you can see how far the fog has made its way to the delta. right now the golden gate bridge, partly sunny conditions. we've got numbers range frg the mid-50s to the low 60s where we have more sun in mountain view to san jose. half-moon bay, 55 and boy those winds still an issue in the upper elevations but beginning to dial back around the bay. it has been breezy and it's still will be breezy in spots. pretty great picture for you here with 53. santa rosa. 60 in concord. as we take a look at our 24 hour temperature change, look at this. as much as 15 to 18 degrees cooler compared to yesterday.

yesterday the cool down began at the coast. moved up into the north bay. every one allows for a much cooler day. we're looking at sunshine by the late morning. the clouds hanging out by the coastline. looks like a cool week ahead. we'll have a couple areas of low pressure visit us and that will allow for breezy winds and the fog to rotate. move in and retreat back throughout the week. by about 5:00 we still have a nice breeze around the bay. southwesterly winds allowing for the cool marine air to influence our temperatures and anywhere from 15 to 20 miles an hour from oakland to fair field. you'll notice that more of the fog is in sonoma, elsewhere it begins to clear sooner. you'll notice by the afternoon patches of fog along the coast. temperatures today downtown very cool. we'll see numbers just in the

upper 50s. partly to mostly sunny for the city. about 2:00 we should see 60 degrees. average high in the mid-60s be p shy of that. in the south bay temperatures coming down, for sure with mid-70s today. you're well into the 70s yesterday. low 70s tomorrow and tuesday with the coolest day or mid week when another system brings some cooler air our way. elsewhere in the south bay look for 75 in morgan hills. on the peninsula mid and up every 60s. pretty windy for you yesterday and still that sea breeze intact for today and on the coast. it's going to be quite chilly there. 56 in daily city. north bay numbers partly sunny. if you're spending time in berkeley or oakland, numbers will be in the low to mid-60s. cool one for you. keep the jacket with you. 72 in walnut creek. once again the fog making its way well towards concord and livermore. out towards the delta and maybe
