this morning on "world news now," the new threat in th this morning on "world news now," the new threat in the volcano zone at this hour. >> another massive crack has opened, spewing lava and threatening more homes. thousands more residents could be forced to evacuate. we'll take you to the edge of that lava flow to listen to the destruction. also this morning, history in israel as the united states relocates the embassy to jerusalem today. the role of ivanka trump and her husband jared and the protests already under way at this hour. a black bear attacks a young girl, dragging her from her own backyard. this morning we are hearing from her mother. and hearing the latest on her condition. and could there finally be a cure to the hangover? that's right. new testing shows promise. and maybe by next mother's day mom can sip more than chardonnay and not pay for it the next day.

>> reporter: new evacuations ordered as yet another crack opens in the ground. lava bubbling out of the 17th fissure to erupt in more than a week. fears now that a major roadway could be cut off, potentially stranding some residents. this fissure opened up in a wooded area, nowhere near any homes, but the fear is more could open up. so they are telling people not in the evacuation zone to be ready to get out immediately. the latest eruptions happening less than a mile from this geothermal plant, the 60,000 gallons of flammable chemicals stored there removed. but some residents are still worried. >> i don't want to get smogged out with geothermal blowout toxins. >> reporter: another massive steam explosion is expected any day. geologists say it could send giant boulders rocketing out of this crater. >> the national guard may have a

bigger problem with dealing with evacuations. >> reporter: the concern is with the air quality with the mountains of lava still emitting toxic fumes. as many as 2,000 more people could be forced to evacuate. marci gonzalez, abc news, hawaii. >> our hearts go out to the people in that area. you too, marci, stay safe. tension is high in israel ahead of a ceremony to open the new u.s. embassy in jerusalem today. the president's daughter and her husband are part of the delegation. they attended a dinner hosted by benjamin netanyahu last night. he says israelis will be eternally grateful for trump's decision to move the embassy from tel aviv to jerusalem. >> we are deeply grateful and our people will be eternally grateful for his bold decision

to recognize jerusalem as israel's capital and move the embassy there. >> israel has beefed up security along the gaza strip. dozens have been killed during recent protests and tens of thousands are expected to gather there today. israel has told citizens to stay away from the area because of possible violence. the main cargo crossing has been closed after disruption of many essential items. it could take months to repair the damage. and in france, police are questioning the parents and friend of a suspect. isis quickly claimed responsibility for the rampage in a busy paris neighborhood that left one man dead, four others wounded. the suspect shouted god is great in arabic. and the suspect is identified as a french citizen born in %-po

pledging allegiance to isis. we turn to the white house laying the ground out for the historic summit. as kim offers another concession before they meet in singapore next month, administration officials are making it clear that all of his nuclear weapons must go. here's tara palmieri. >> reporter: president trump hitting the golf course while his national security team lays out the plan for his historic meeting with kim jong un. >> he will be able to size kim jung-un up and see whether the commitment is real. >> reporter: the president's goal, complete and irreversible denuclearization of north korea, but he also says he's willing to walk away from negotiations. >> i hope to have a very successful meeting. if we don't think it's going to be successful, we won't have it. if the meeting when i'm there is not fruitful, i will respectfully leave the meeting. >> reporter: though the president remains optimistic. >> we're going to set the table. we're going to make a great deal for the world, for north korea,

for south korea, for japan, for china. >> reporter: north korean officials setting the stage, announcing they will dismantle this nuclear site within weeks, saying they will use explosives to blow up the tunnel, even inviting american journalists. president trump tweeting thank you, a very smart and gracious gesture. >> if they want to see opening to the rest of the world, the quicker they denuclearize, the quicker that will come. >> reporter: this comes after mike pompeo announced the u.s. would offer to help north korea with its economy if they get rid of their nukes. they also say they aren't aiming to remove kim from power. >> this has been the tradeoff that has been pending for 25 years. >> reporter: bolton said it's entirely possible that the president will introduce the treaty to congress to vote it into law. this is an idea to make sure that a successor doesn't withdraw from the agreement like

he did with the iran deal. in a surprise move, president trump is offering a lifeline to a chinese phone company, punished by the u.s. last month for violating sanctions. he's working with china's president to get zte back in business after the commerce department crippled the company by cutting off its access to u.s. suppliers. the president has railed against china for unfair trade. but it comes in the middle of negotiations for a trade deal. and the family members of the suspected golden state killer offer insight. they say joseph deangelo saw two service members sexually assault his 7-year-old sister at a u.s. air base in germany. he would have been 9 or 10 at the time. a party took a scary turn when a bounce house flew onto a

all right, all right, it's that time of year when bears are looking for food, but this bear in los angeles looks like it may have wanted a little more hibernation time. watch as it crawls into the crawlspace of a home. just as the cop tells his partner the bear may have left, well, you can guess what happens next. what happens when you shine a light in someone's face when you're trying to sleep. generally, they wake up. there comes the bear! bear runs past the officer who was a little surprised to see the bear, needless to say. nobody's hurt. everybody's fine. but the officer's probably a little bit scared. >> i imagine.

unfortunately, things didn't go quite so smoothly in a backyard in colorado. >> a 5-year-old girl was attacked by a bear right outside her house in the middle of the night. clayton sandell has more. >> reporter: wildlife officers are on the hunt after a rare mother's day bear attack. 5-year-old kimberly sear suffering serious injuries. her mother woke to the sounds of her child screaming. she came face-to-face with a black bear dragging her daughter. the animal dropping the child when mom began to yell. >> the daughter will be going to the hospital. >> she did the right thing, yelled, screamed, made lots of noise. the bear dropped the daughter. >> reporter: the girl went outside because she thought she heard dogs barking in the backyard. black bears can weigh up to 600 pounds and run as fast as 30 miles per hour. residents are warned to be on the alert.

from abc news, this is "world news now." >> oh, my gosh. the lighting and all, it's hard to tell. carrie underwood. we'll show you parts of her big reveal there a little bit later on. but we're going to start overseas and the big change, really in jerusalem. today is the official opening of the new embassy there. >> ivanka trump and her husband jared kushner were among the guests at a dinner hosted by israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu. >> the opening of the embassy is a controversial move, large demonstrations are expected today. terry moran is also in the old city. >> reporter: a warm embrace and greetings for two of president trump's senior advisers, his daughter and son-in-law.

both arrived in israel to witness one of the president's most controversial campaign promises fulfilled. >> i have determined that it is time to officially recognize jerusalem as the capital of israel. >> reporter: that announcement included moving embassy operations to jerusalem, now set to open. the president's decision marks a dramatic break with decades of u.s. neutrality on what jerusalem's status should be as israelis and palestinians negotiated for peace. both sides claim the city as their capital. the president's move has infuriated palestinians which have cut off contact with the u.s. and some fear it could lead to mass violence. in gaza, weeks of protests have left more than 40 dead and hundreds more wounded by israeli fire. now hamas is threatening to destroy the border fence. they are anticipating more violence tuesday as they call

"catastrophe." for now, there will be just a few offices in the old consulate while a new embassy is being built. that is making president trump a hero here. he will make an address via video link. and they have already named a train station after him. terry moran, abc news, jerusalem. >> in addition to the train station, there's another name change making news in israel. >> a large soccer club is changing its name to honor the president, the jerusalem football club will now be known as beitar trump jerusalem. >> the club has strong ties to the prime minister's political party, but it has to be approved to be official. and now to another story, another major fissure is spewing lava from hawaii's kilauea volcano and prompting a new evacuation order.

>> this one's about 1,000 feet long. scientists say if these cracks keep opening in a straight line, people in that area will be cut off completely. one resident says he saw rocks flying over the tree line. one witness describes the noise louder than a 747 taking off. nearly 40 homes have been destroyed. john bolton says the u.s. could impose sanctions on european allies if they continue to deal with iran under that nuclear agreement that president trump left last week. during an appearance on abc's "this week", bolton told martha raddatz that europeans are feeling the effects because much of what they want to sell to iran utilizes american technology and those licenses will not be available. >> this was part of the flaw of the deal to entice them into deals that would have worked against holding iran

accountability for violation of the deal. >> the foreign ministers are meeting in brussels to discuss the u.s.'s withdrawal from the deal and they'll hold separate meetings with the foreign minister of iran. one of john mccain's daughters is still waiting for an apology from the aide who mocked her dad. meghan said sadler told her she would publicly apologize but that hasn't happened yet. other white house officials aren't apologizing for the remarks either. >> it was a joke. it was a badly-considered joke, an awful joke that she said fell flat. the leak was designed to hurt that person. >> white house press secretary sarah sanders reportedly told her staff that sadler's comment was inappropriate.

and during a private meeting sanders scolded the staff for leaking the comments to the media and then that was leaked to the media. >> lots of leaks to the media. french investigators are trying to figure out if a young man behind a terror attack had any help. one person was stabbed to death. four others injured before the suspect was shot and killed by police. now isis is claiming he was one of their own. james longman has more. >> reporter: terror chasing on french streets once again. a knife attack cutting at the heart of paris, happening in an area packed with people enjoying their evening near in bars and restaurants barricading themselves in as a man shouted "allahu akbar" "god is great." >> we waited a bit and ventured outside a little bit more to see what was going on. >> reporter: police swiftly on

the scene, shooting and killing the suspect within nine minutes. he's been identified. he was born in 1997 in chechnya. he became a french citizen in 2010 and was on a radicalization watch list. azimov's parents being questioned. he left a video behind pledging allegiance to isis. the 29-year-old has been confirmed dead. french president emmanuel macron tweeting, france will not cede an inch. this was nothing like the far larger plots that have left many more dead like at the bataclan, for instance. but it is a reminder to stay vigilant. james longman, abc news, paris. an african-american group is calling for a boycott of a shopping mall outside of

milwaukee. the group called the original black panthers of milwaukee is reacting to this video. the panthers want the officer fired and prosecuted. police are investigating the incident but say the video does not show the entire incident. they say the teenager threw the first punch. and the university of wisconsin is blaming a technical glitch for a major scare. the university sent out an active threat e-mail which said run, hide, fight. but a followup message said there was no threat on campus. officials haven't explained what caused the glitch. the school is apologizing for undue stress. a florida high school has taken its "welcome to the jungle" prom theme a little too far. >> they were joined on prom night by real animals, including a lemur, macaus and a fox. >> but wait. there goes a tiger.
