happened. officials say the suspect and victim are males and college-aged but don't know for sure if they're students here. >> the petaluma police department has agreed to help in the investigation and the university has provided grief counselors for those residents in our residential communities to support them during this time. >> reporter: the stabbing victim was killed. they did take a man into custody, a college-aged man is how they described him. they haven't said what a possible motive could have been. there is still a crime scene here on campus. finals will go on as scheduled today. they're set to start today. officials say that don't think there's any threat to students. they believe the person they took in custody is responsible for this. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. a woman's baby nearly

snatched out of her arms in an attempted abduction. this happened at 14th and natoma street in san francisco. abc news reporting lillian kim spoke with a neighbor who came to the rescue. >> this homeless woman came behind us and started going -- she was acting up. >> reporter: that homeless woman was caught on a neighbor's security video which also captures the moments leading up to the struggle over a woman's baby. >> all of a sudden i guess the woman came out with her baby and she tried to gab the baby. >> reporter: the video stopped recording before the actual struggle. another neighbor, rex, came to the rescue. >> i had an object in my hand just to let her know you're not going to take the baby. you need to move down and get off my street. she was a homeless woman and looked like she was under the influence of drugs. >> reporter: the baby is said to be okay but was taken to the

college aged. school officials say they don't know at this point if they're students at sonoma state. the school will remain open and grief counselors will be on hand to help students cope with what happened. staying in sonoma county, a sheriff's deputy is recovering from injuries he suffered in a confrontation at a car wash. officers were called to the jolly washer yesterday morning of reports of an employee acting strange. investigators say the man pulled out a gun and shot at the deputies with a round of snake shot. the officer returned fire but didn't hit the, woulder. he was quickly arrested. the injured deputy was taken to the hospital and is in good condition. police in santa cruz are investigating a deadly shooting. they say a man from vacaville was shot and killed around 6:30 in a, paing lot at 2nd and cliff streets. two people involved in the crime, a juvenile and an add zult were identified. anyone with information is asked

we start out at 53, we get up to 56, a few clouds linger along the coast and coastal valleys. at noon 62. ready for mid 60s in the afternoon hours, down to 55 degrees at 8:00. weatherwise it's cooler than average. it's pretty steady. i had a good commute. you say things went downhill really quickly. >> you were driving at 2:45, 2:30. things are usually okay then. now, not so much. a big sig alert in oakland. a little bit of improvement in the last few minutes, southbound 880 before you get to oak street, we had all lanes stopped last time we checked in. this was a crash involving a semi hauling lumber. they were saying hauling about 70,000 pounds. the sedan that was involved has been cleared. they also opened up the three right lanes. we do have the two left lanes blocked approaching the scene. semi not gone yet. no estimate on when that will reopen. eastbound 580 is wide open. we don't have any issues there.

jose police have seen a huge increase in lyft and uber drivers coming through dui checkpoints. san jose saw a 28% decrease in dui arrests. in san francisco, a 14% decline. a brazen attack in colorado. police in grand junction say a 5-year-old girl was bitten and nearly dragged into the woods by a black bear. they say the child went outside early sunday morning because she thought she heard a dog. her mother heard screaming and saw the black bear dragging her daughter. she yelled and the bear let the girl go. authorities are still searching for the bear and the girl is recovering at the hospital. a change coming to sfo if you're heading there in the next few weeks. the air tran light rail system will shut down from 8:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. crews are starting work at a new station to link the train system to the grand hyatt hotel set to open next summer. the overnight air train closures are supposed to happen until

millbrae at 62. start heading into the sboi, mountain view at about 70. mid to upper 50s along the coast today with cloud cover. breezes will taper a little bit compared to yesterday. low 60s for downtown, south san francisco and sausalito. north bay valleys will be breezy. that's the same temperature we'll have along the east bayshore. low to mid 70s in our inland neighborhoods. look at these temperatures tonight, low to mid 50s once again. morgan hill, lakeport and it looks like around santa rosa, 49 degrees. tomorrow we drop a couple degrees, even more wednesday as we have drizzle in the morning. there you can see the slow warming trend. temperatures back to average by sunday. here is alexis. >> back to our traffic alert, sky 7 on the way to the scene in oakland where we have that sig alert involving a semi and sedan on southbound 880. they just passed oracle and the coliseum not too long ago. as you can see, we're okay on the northbound side. southbound south of the crash,

back live to sky 7 over the scene of a sig alert in oakland, southbound 880. this is right around broadway. we just watched them tow away the big rig involved in the crash around 4:30. as of now, the two left lanes

major traffic headache here this morning in oakland. this is southbound 880, not too far from broadway, between oak street and broadway. i want to see if they have all lanes cleared now. it actually looks like we are fully back open. we have the roadway fully blocked for a short time today, then three lanes down and we've been operating with a couple lanes blocked here for about 45 minutes. looks lik we are clear, we watched them haul the big rig away. now we're looking at a pretty hefty backup as you leave the maze. it's about two miles in length, but about 45 minutes timewise. if you are just coming eastbound out of the maze, you definitely want to take 580 instead. we'll take a look at this. hopefully it will thin out quickly. let's check in with meteorologist mike nicco for a look at the forecast. hi, everybody. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. no fog. all the cloud cover is above here. what it's going to do is keep signs of summer heat away. from two degrees to ten degrees below average with highs in the
