under way. royal wedding countdown. with one of meghan markle's friends is opening up before the big day. almost at 6:00 a.m., welcome to this monday, may 14th. >> we'll start with alexis smith. what's going on in oakland? >> we are starting to look a lot better. i want to take you live to sky 7. they're looking at the backup from an earlier sig alert. we had a significant crash at about 4:30 this morning involving a semi and sedan. that semi was hauling a lot of lumber. they had to call in a special tow truck to the scene. this is the 880 and 980 interchange in oakland, the southbound side. folks heading east from the bay bridge or coming from the berkeley area, looking at heavy volumes. i did check speeds on a few maps here. that's looking like it's five to ten miles per hour. this is starting to unwind. all lanesre back open as of about ten minutes ago. things are starting to unwind. let's check in with mike nicco.

we can go. the street is shut down and there are police cars still here surrounding the sauvignon village community where the stabbing happened. it happened last night before 6:00 when the university got the call. they say the victim and the suspect are college-aged males, but they don't know if they for sure are students here. the university is offering support to its students. >> we're also finding housing and hotels for students who are not able to get back in their homes due to the area being roped off as a crime scene. >> the victim was killed. they also are bringing in grief counselors for anyone who needs to talk to someone. they did take a man into custody. police have not said what the motive was behind this attack. there is still a crime scene here. finals will go on as scheduled. they are set to start today. authorities say they do not

think there is any current threat to students. reporting live in roane nert park, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. the golden state killer suspect joseph deangelo is due in court this morning. a judge is considering making his search and arrest warrants public. >> he's accused of 12 murders and suspected in more than 50 rapes. this morning we're hearing from the mother of the golden state killer's final victims. >> it's one of those situations where they call you in the middle of the night and give you the news that your daughter has just been murdered. >> diane stein says she left her 18-year-old daughter, jeanelle cruz home alone. she was in mexico when her daughter was killed. >> that's the first thing the mother thinks, oh, i want to go home real quick and help her, but you can't. >> she says she remains getting

strange phone calls for weeks from someone saying i'm going to kill you. she said she thought it was a child prank calling the family. stein still doesn't know why the killer targeted her daughter and hopes a conviction will bring answers. a homeless woman in san francisco's mission district is accused of trying to grab a baby right out of the mother's arms. this happened yesterday on mother's day. neighbors say the area is overrun with transients. this is the security camera footage of the suspect. it captures the moments leaving up to the struggle for the woman's baby. witnesses say rex moore, thank goodness, came to the rescue. >> i had an object in my hand to let her know, you're knot going to take the baby. you need to move down and get off the street. she was a homeless woman and looked like she was under the influence of drugs. >> the baby was taken to the hospital to make sure she was okay. san francisco police detained four transients for questioning. it is not clear what charges, if

any, the woman will face. san francisco supervisors will take on officials from the company accused of faking cleanup records at the former hunter's point shipyard. workers from tetra tech says the company falsified data to minimize evidence. the soil is still contaminated by radiation. a navy analysis showed nearly half of the samples taken from the site had been falsified or manipulated. tetra tech denies the allegations. in the wake of the hunter's point shipyard scandal, environmental advocates are demanding city officials look closer at treasure island, the site of toxic cleanup involving some of the same players. tetra tech continues to work on technical projects at the former naval base. the company says they were not hired to remove radioactive waste on the island. overnight an 18th fissure opened up on hoo way's big

policeman to be fired. this after a video surfaced showing the white officer punching an african-american teenager in the face. the teen was in the process of being arrested when the officer appeared to hit him. police arrived after mall security called them about a group of males causing a disturbance. the original black panthers of milwaukee is demanding the officer resign or be fired and calling on prosecutors to charge the officer. president trump's lawyer, michael cohen, reportedly tried to offer his consulting services to uber. that according to a source from uber who spoke to the "wall street journal." the report says cohen offered to smooth out uber's road with the trump administration and tried sweetening the deal by advertising himself as the president's lawyer. the company passed on cohen's services rjts one man called a real life superhero for helping so many moms. james harrison retired on friday after helping save the babies of more than 2 million women. the 81-year-old has earned the nickname in australia, the man

upper 50s to low 60s. look at daly city, 56 degrees. now, as we head over towards the peninsula, down towards the peninsula i should say, 63 degrees. it will get brighter the farther south you go. notice the temperatures responding from 62 in millbrae, but as you start to get into the south bay, mountain view at about 70. 57 in pacifica. palo alto and redwood city only 69 degrees. pretty comfortable if you're in the sunshine. mid to upper 60s in the north bay. as we head into the oakland area, 65. as we slide south, you'll see more sunshine. fremont 69. richmond about 63. as we go to our east bay, saving on the electric bill once again, low to mid 70s. that's it. down in the south bay we'll find temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s. here is aing loo at tonight. looks a lot like this morning. look at all that gray. temperatures mainly in the low to mid fists. my accuweather seven-day

westbound 4 antioch to concord, 35. san rafael to san francisco looking great, in the green at 15 minutes. we weren't the only ones disturbed by a recent viral video of people shooting up in the b.a.r.t. station. >> san francisco's mayor is apparently demanding action. abc 7 news reporter matt keller live in downtown san francisco with a new proposal. >> reporter: good morning, natasha and reggie. b.a.r.t. police say they're short about 30 officers. if they want the problem station patrolled, they'll want help from the san francisco police department. drug addicts shooting up at commuters walk through the civic center b.a.r.t. station. mayor mark farrell held a meeting with b.a.r.t. officials and the san francisco police department to come up with options. farrell says it's a distinct possibility b.a.r.t. riders may zee san francisco police patrolling b.a.r.t. stations. law enforcement and legal experts told the chronicle the

problem cannot be solved with more officers. they say most of the offenses result in a citation, not jail, and rehabilitation programs are voluntary. at least one supervisor wants to try safe injection sites for the users. matt keller, abc 7 news. a sheriff's deputy is recovering from injuries he suffered in a confrontation at a sonoma car wash. officers were called to the jolly washer on highway 12 late yesterday morning on reports of an employee acting strange. investigators say the man pulled out a gun and shot at the deputies, hitting one of them with a round of snake shot. those are small pellets. the officer returned fire but didn't hit the worker. he was quickly arrested. the injured deputy was taken to the hospital and is in good condition. >> there are three weeks until san franciscans head to the polls to vote for the new mayor. >> over the weekend the race took an ugly turn when someone yelled racial slurs at supervisor jane kim. >> [ bleep ]. >> this cell phone video taken

saturday at the origin club on fillmore street in supervisor london breed's district. former state senator mark leno and supervisor jane kim were hosting an event when protesters gathered. a non-profit says it called for a peaceful gathering to voice concerns about leno and kim and the agitators are not members involved in their rally. organizers reached out to kim about the incident. >> while slurs and ethnic-based slurs are never okay, we also have to acknowledge that there has been a divide. >> i don't tolerate racism of any kind. people that support me, that support other candidates that unfortunately things like this have happened throughout the campaign trail. >> breed was not involved in the rally. she says she does not know the agitators. happening today, the man accused of being the golden state killer will be back in court as lawyers battle over sealed records that led to his arrest. a judge is considering whether to make search and arrest

warrants for joseph deangelo public. those documents could provide more details about the dna techniques used to identify him as a suspect. dee anglo's attorney wants the judge to hold off on making a decision until she reviews more documents. prosecutors say a different judge, the one who issued the warrants should be making the decision. deangelo is accused of at least 12 murders and 50 rapes. flags are flying at half staff at san francisco city hall following the unexpected death of former police commission president julius turman. he just resigned from his post earlier this month. he didn't reveal a reason for stepping down from the commission. he spent seven years on the civilian oversight panel. family and friends have not revealed how he died. the examiner reports that police chief bill scott said, quote, he is a compassionate man who cared deeply about the department. he was 52 years old. tesla faces more questions after another crash involving one of its cars. police in south georgian utah

we have heavier traffic on the westbound side and we had an earlier vehicle fire on the eastbound side. taking a look at pretty views this morning. not quite as pretty southbound 680 through the walnut creek area. we're starting to see delays. we have a new crash reported on westbound 24 around pleasant hill road. we have one lane blocked and that is quickly spilling over onto the 680 corridor. aside from that, not too much to report. i want to take you to the south bay and show how good that's looking. northbound 101, a few places stop and go. no blocking issues to report for the south bay, and mass transit, no current issues there. next traffic update in less than ten. >> heads up if you're going to sfo. starting tonight the air train light rail system will shut down from 8:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. crews are starting work on a new station to link the train system to the grand hyatt hotel set to open next summer.
