after police discover their ten children living in squall or. >> the mother of the children say police have it all wrong. laura anthony is live in fairfield where police wrapped up a news conference a short time ago. laura? >> reporter: hi, dan. the charges are actually the culmination of a six-week investigation. it all began when one of the children, a 12-year-old boy ran away and police here returned him to the family home. officers were stunned by what they found. >> this is absolutely appalling. >> standin in the doorway of her fairfield home, ina rogers says charges she and her husband abused, even tortured their ten children are untrue. >> i strive and i thrive myself on being a good parent to my children. my husband has a lot of tattoos, he looks like a scary individual and that's why people are so quick to judge him. but absolutely not. my husband is an amazing person. i'm an amazing mother. >> the 30-year-old rogers is out

an bail after her arrest in late march charged with the abuse after police returned her 12-year-old son to the family home. after he had been reported missing. rogers showed reporters the inside of her home which she claims was messed up by police during their search. all of the children sleep on the noor in one room. roge rogers' husband was arrested. charged with nine felony counts of child cruelty. he's pleaded not guilty. >> the children described incidents of intentional abuse resulting in puncture wounds, burns, bruising and injuries consistent with being shot with a pellet gun or air soft gun. >> based upon the information that i know, i'm horrified by the statements that were given these children. >> i got pregnant at the age of 16. >> rogers told us she has 11

biological children ages 4 months to 14 years old. three she had before meeting allen and eight in the past ten years. she told us she home-schools the children while working full-time as a medical technician. >> not only do i have 11 children and i am 30 years old, but i also home-school all of my children and people don't agree with that lifestyle. so i've had many people question my right to parent, and i just feel like this whole situation was exploded. >> allen is held on $5.2 million bail. the children have all been placed in the custody of rogers' sister and mother in the bay area. >> in fairfield, laura anthony. urged a council member to step down after a total of nine police reports have been filed accusing him of sexual abuse or improper behavior. dominick con -- is a civics

teacher at santa clara high school and running for a seat on the county board of supervisors. lisa gilmore says the city council will take the first step tomorrow to condemn ka certificate a and ask for his resignation. >> i think that eventually he will find that the community is asking for the resignation and it will be difficult for him to conduct his work as a councilmember with the community outrage. >> records surfaced last week indicating students accused him of unwanted hugging and making inappropriate comments. the complaints go back to 2002. he denies the allegations. some 9,000 students and staff at sonoma state university have unanswered questions about a deadly stabbing involving two people who knew one another. we know it happened -- abc news reporter explains there's unsettled feeling on campus. >> it's the kind of press conference that not students or

anyone would expect to see on a college campus. >> we think we have the person that actually did the stabbing. >> that's police lieutenant tim lyons updating what his office to believe a mirurder inside th university last night. they arrested 19-year-old tyler bratton, a nonstudent visiting the campus who faces possible murder charges. the 26-year-old victim was also a nonstudent. >> we think they're visiting friends here. >> any indication that this is drug-related. >> at this time we don't know. >> police found bratton with bloody evidence outside the dorm and that he did not resist arrest. they're now looking for witnesses to tell what they saw or heard. >> i was over there when it all happened. it was so crazy and just absolutely so heartbreaking. >> after the incident, most people on campus assumed it had taken place between two students. that was upsetting.

this morning when they learned that both men were outsiders, they felt even more vulnerable. >> that is indeed, a scary part. >> we're very sheltered in some ways on a college campus. some people do come in that aren't supposed to come in. >> it's hard to accept. >> especially here in an increasingly violent world, college campuses have felt safer. at sonoma state, it's been tough to look at books today, while also looking over a shoulder. in rohnert park, wayne friedman, abc 7 news. a sacramento judge delayed a decision on whether search and arrest warrants where suspected golden state killer should made public. media outlets want them unsealed including how prosecutors identified deangelo in the first place. the defense claims the information should -- could possibly taint the jury pool. a decision is expected on may 29th on this question. deangelo has been charged with

12 murders in all. this is video from his initial court appearance last month after his arrest. he appeared in court today, but not in a wheelchair as he had previously. we have just learned that the body of a richmond skier reported missing two months ago has been found. 65-year-old thomas mularkey's body was found by search and rescue dogs at the bear valley resort in alpine county. he was reported missing on march 14th after he did not return to his cabin following a day of skiing. teens searched for him for days despite heavy snow and the risk of avalanche. san francisco's-based gaps are -- over china calling an incomplete map of its country. the people's daily in -- notice the map of china doesn't include taiwan which is off the eastern coast. they claim the island is part of its territory. taiwan, of course, does not see itself that way. gap issued a statement, this

caroline tyler joins us live in the newsroom with the latest. >> kristen, mayoral candidate submitted new language to the election department making it clear that her november ballot initiative to withdraw sanctuary city protection is directed at convicted felons, not those suspected of committing a crime. critics see it as an attack on immigrant communities. >> it was a united front on the steps of city hall. leaders from the mayor to the district attorney standing together denouncing a proposed ballot measure that would alter san francisco's sanctuary law. >> we're a sanctuary city today. we are a sanctuary city tomorrow. >> the current law limits city agencies, including law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration agents. the goal is to make undocumented residents feel safe to interact with police, without fear of deportation. the proposed ballot measure would no longer shield dangerous

felons. >> why do they want to protect dangerous felons? why? >> mayoral candidate angela al oto authored the original sanctuary law when she was a supervisor in 1989 but says others amended it. she wants it back to what she intended. >> if you are convicted by a jury of a violent felony, murder, rape, mayhem or a crime that is punished by death, then you will not be protected by san francisco's sanctuary laws. it's that simple. >> she says the immigrant community supports her. but not those who demonstrated immediately after getting rid of the proposal last week. and not city leaders who blasted her as trumpian. >> here we are having the candidate looking for the highest office in our county pandering to the same things that we hear from washington on a regular basis. that is wrong. >> i do not understand their

reaction. they will not bully me. i will go forward with in ordinance. >> carolyn tyler, abc 7 news. democratic state lawmakers are pushing for new bills that would increase resources for undocumented immigrants. some of them spoke at 22nd annual immigrant day at the capital. it would expand medi-cal access. those without a social security number to get local business licenses and remove exclusions to the california earned income tax credit. republicans say the proposals undermine the value of citizenship and the legal immigration process. >> this is offensive to every california citizen. this is an intentional attempt by the california democrats to blur the line between legal citizen and illegal immigrant. >> we want to be sure that all californians are protected, whether documented or undocumented. if you're undocumented and working here, you're still contributing to our economy.

>> the bills are expected to be heard in several communities before being voted on in the full legislature. companies are about to be passed on to you. the consumer. >> 7 on your side's michael finney is here with that story and more tonight. michael? >> it's like a jump rope. we wait for the inflation to hit. economists have been waiting for price inflation to hit. now we are getting our first hint of where we may first feel its pinch. at the grocery store. bloomberg is reporting that a little known private label food company, treehouse foods, has said it may not have any choice but to hike prices because of rising freight and commodity costs. private label companies tend to be on the lower end of cost scale. if they raise prices, the thinking goes, brand names have the -- you may remember, the federal reserve has been raising rates slowly in an effort to tamp down inflation. >> seniors who want to age in their own home may soon get a

break. a proposal that would provide a tax credit for senior home care services past the -- with bipartisan support. the measure is expected to ease the burden on seniors who want to stay in their homes but need help with bathing, dressing, cooking and getting around. the bill now advances to the assembly appropriations committee. memorial day will be more crowded this year than last. aaa says 5% more of us will be hitting the road. that's about 2 billion more travelers. the busiest travel days will be on thursday and friday. may 24th and 25th. with commuters mixing with holiday travelers. aaa says the worst time for san francisco will be friday between 3:30 and 5:00 p.m. when travel times will be close to doubling. gas prices are higher. aaa expects gas prices to be down 7%.

>> flying home to san jose. >> out of the way. or you could stay here where the weather is typically fantastic around this time of the year. we are dealing with the june gloom a little early. i want to show you live doppler 7 now. you will notice it's overkasa long the coast. the low clouds have pushed well into the north bay this morning and they're still there. haven't budged take a look at what's happening in the sierra nevada. we're seeing showers. snow showers above 9,000 feet and even thunderstorms south of lake tahoe. in association with an area of low pressure to our east. it is breezy to gusty right now. 24 mile an hour winds out of southwest at fairfield and that gusty on-shore wind is responsible for keeping us on the cooler side of normal for may. take a look at the winds and where they're going. it will remain gusty this evening and taper off in the overnight hours heading into tomorrow morning. only to pick up again as we go

into tomorrow afternoon. spring is typically a windy time of year. it's certainly verifying this afternoon. want to show you a cool picture from our south beach camera. looking at sutro tower, the marine layer is deep. about 2400 feet deep. it's going to rush in over the valleys as we head towards tomorrow morning. temperatures 57 in san francisco. it's in the 60s from oakland to san jose. 55 degrees in half moon bay. a mix of sun and clouds from the emeryville camera. inland areas didn't see the sun. temperatures in the 60s from santa rosa to livermore. highs so far today in the upper 50s to the low 70s. look at this shot from our east bay hills camera. not much sun found here. low clouds and drizzle. breezy and cool in the afternoon. temperatures remaining below average most of the week. here's the 12-hour planner tomorrow. gray and drizzly in the morning. peeks of sun around noontime. by the afternoon, inland areas

will see the sun. low clouds linger along the coast. another breezy one. hour by hour we go. overnight tonight into tomorrow morning. you'll notice the low clouds spreading during the commute time. it is going to be pretty gray. 5:00 to 8:00 a.m. by 11:00 a.m. the gray skies peel away back towards the coast. inland areas seeing the sun by noontime. along the coastline, continue to see the overcast skies. cool, drizzly gray. upper 40s to the mid-50s. tomorrow afternoon, you're looking at temperatures ranging from the upper 50s at the coast with lingering cloud cover to breezy conditions. and upper 60s to low 70s in inland. you can download the accuweather app and check out the temperatures any time you want. one thing you'll notice is this week, it is going to remain cool for may standards as a trough dominates our weather. ridge over the southern united stat states. that's where the warmth will be found. a cooler than average pattern. this verifies as you look at the seven-day forecast. temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s through thursday for the

taking it easy after getting hurt on mt. tam. sadly, she fell and injured her ankle. the helicopter crew with the highway patrol was called in. this is her in the rescue basket. she's below the rescuer. the trail was too steep. they carried her out. they had to use the helicopters. the highway patrol posted this picture from santa cruz. a mail truck swerved to avoid hitting a squirrel. that's how it ended up. crashing down an embankment. the chp says the driver is okay. i know you want to know this. the squirrel is as well. >> win-win all the way around. might put the cable cars out of business. a new aerial tram is -- it will run next to the sales force tower on mission street to a rooftop park on the new transbay transit center. it will carry up to 20

passengers at a time free of charge. it's kind of like a ski resort. next tuesday, sales force will host a grand opening celebration at the plaza to mark the official opening of their landmark tower. a heads-up for travelers going to san francisco international airport. starting tonight, the air train light rail system will be shutting down from 8:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. they're starting a new station to link it to the grand hyatt hotel which is set to open next summer. the overnight air train closures will continue through august 15th. it will provide bus service taking you between terminals and the rental carsenter. >> we have more to bring you here at 5:00. when will mad bum be back on the mound? >> not soon enough.
