11:35 pm
live >> dicky: from hollywood it's "jimmy kimmel live!" tonight, donald glover. from "life of the party," molly gordon this week in unnecessary censorship and music from angélique kidjo. and now, stay right there, here's jimmy kimmel! [ cheers and applause ] >> jimmy: welcome. hi, everybody. i'm jimmy. i'm the host of the show. thank you for watching. thanks for coming. on a -- it's a big night in our neighborhood. the street, as you probably noticed, is closed down outside our theater. you still made it here on time. the force is with us all tonight. the big hollywood premiere of "solo: a star wars story."
11:36 pm
look at that. the millennium falcon. they built one. one of the guys who works here this morning came in and said hey, there's a life-size millennium falcon outside. and then i explained because i have to ruin everything that it's not life size because there is no millennium falcon in real life. [ laughter ] and then he started to cry. his name is danny. he's 33. he's a lonely guy. we have probably the biggest star of the war of all of them with us tonight. donald glover is here. [ cheers and applause ] that's right. very exciting. as i was thinking about it, we haven't had a new "star wars" movie in months. literally. [ laughter ] meanwhile, it has been a bigly week for our president, who was up very late last night. the president and first lady were at andrews air force base this morning at around 3:00 a.m. to greet three american detainees who were being held by kim jong un. let me tell you something. after all that time in north korea, you've never seen three people more excited about a little bag of airline peanuts in your life. so before they set foot on
11:37 pm
american soil trump went on to the plane to say hello and also to give them a quick reminder of just why they were there. >> you're welcome. you're welcome. you're welcome. you're welcome. you're very welcome. you're welcome. i did this. you're welcome. >> jimmy: by the way, did you see that move? the moment with the handshake -- let's look at that handshake again. so he's got the peace sign and trump just kind of squeezes it. [ laughter ] maybe he thought it was time for a quick game of rock paper scissors. i don't know. [ laughter ] the prisoners, the hostages were said to be relieved to be free, happy to be home, and baffled as to why the host of the "celebrity apprentice" picked them up at the airport. [ laughter ] the president of course is very upbeat. he finally got some -- this positive coverage he so desperately craves. and he took time out to not only thank the assembled media but to remind us of what really is most important in life. >> i want to thank you all. it's very early in the morning.
11:38 pm
i think you probably broke the all-time in history television rating for 3:00 in the morning. that i would say. >> jimmy: yes. what a historic day to celebrate nielsen ratings. he really has nothing to do with. and then he actually thanked kim jong un for releasing the men and for treating them well. right. outside of the whole kidnapping them and holding them against their will for nothing thing, he was very hospitable. he really was. [ laughter ] and of course no team trump victory would be complete without a message from our brown noser in chief, mike pence. >> andrea, it was an incredibly powerful moment to see the president and the first lady bring three americans back to freedom. and it was all a direct result of the strong and clear leadership that president trump has provided on the world stage in this moment.
11:39 pm
think about how far we've come in the last year. >> jimmy: it's true. a year ago he wasn't allowed to be in a room with a woman without his wife present. [ laughter ] and now there he is with andrea mitchell. but make no mistake. the release of the hostages is excellent news. and we know now where and when trump will meet with kim jong un. he tweeted, "the highly anticipated meeting between kim jong un and myself will take place in singapore on june 12th. we will both try to make it a very special moment for world peace." that's good. you should make the moment special. all our moments should be special. in singapore, though. i didn't even know they had a hooters in singapore. [ laughter ] secretary of state mike pompeo, he's the one who went to north korea to pick the hostages up and to meet with kim jong un. now, this is video from korean central television. &-p meets the ladies getting out of the limo. now they're actually not posing for a picture. just hanging out. and kim escorts mike to the dining room, where as you can see they've prepared a traditional north korean meal. [ laughter ] and then they talk for quite a
11:40 pm
while. they actually released video of the conversation they had. and i have to say mike pompeo really knows how to chat it up. >> when i was a teenager i was an employee of the month at baskin-robbins. not once but twice. i'm a movie buff. i have a soft spot for my golden retrievers. love meatballs that i make with my dad's recipe. and although he'll dispute this i can beat my son in cornhole every day. i love revolutionary war history, country music, show tunes, and college basketball. >> jimmy: all right. enough of the chitchat. i've got relatives to kill. [ laughter ] so there you go. we're making new friends all over the world. republicans in the house believe president trump deserves a nobel prize for all this. and the president of south korea agrees. republicans nominated him for the nobel prize for peace, which if it happens i imagine would look something like this.
11:41 pm
>> the nobel committee is proud to announce the nominations for the 2019 alfred nobel peace prize. and the nominees are -- dr. zanzu mbotswelu for his tireless work aiding and treating the wounded in sudanese refugee camps. mayor judapur vishisana for his efforts to restore order and bring relief to victims in the poorest communities devastated by the 2018 indonesian flood. and president donald j. trump. ♪ >> north korea. >> i would have been boom-boom boom. >> let's not make any more threats. >> i could shoot somebody. >> grab them by the [ bleep ]. >> i'd like to punch him in the face. >> they will be met with fire and fury. >> knock the crap out of him.
11:42 pm
>> knock the [ bleep ] out of everybody. >> we're going to kick your ass. >> knives. knives. >> beat up as many people as you can. >> congratulations to all the nominees. god has forsaken us. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: all right. well, hey, listen, donald trump doesn't want prizes and accolades. dr. dre, i don't know if you heard this, dr. dre is involved in an interesting legal dispute. the rapper and producer dr. dre lost a trademark case against an ob-gyn in pennsylvania whose name is also dr. drai but spelled d-r-a-i. rap dr. dre was trying to stop the real doctor -- yes, that's a real doctor. from trademarking the name dr. drai. but last week a court ruled against him in favor of "ob-gyn and juice," as he is now known. [ laughter ] the famous dre said the name could cause confusions between the two dres. though it seems like once you get your feet in the stirrups you wouldn't be confused. the gynecologist is also author of this book called "20 things you may not know about the penis."
11:43 pm
especially number 14, did you know the penis is a vegetable? [ laughter ] did you know that, guillermo? >> guillermo: no. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: all right. anyway, this is how soft our country has become. our east coast-west coast rap feuds are now being fought by gynecologists. [ laughter ] it's thursday night, which means it's time to bleep and blur the big tv moments of the week, whether they need it or not. it's time for "this week in unnecessary censorship." they're sending a message to north korea that the u.s. will not accept inadequate [ bleep ]. jeff. >> chip reid, [ bleep ] you. >> i spoke with one official who said look, giuliani [ bleep ] the president's [ bleep ] but if he doesn't begin to show more discipline he's going to lose that. >> i would like to [ bleep ] the president, the vice president, karen pence. >> i've [ bleep ] every single major world leader in the last 44 years. just the nature of my job. >> you know, i can actually
