says his camera captured an image of an angel above his truck. i could totally see it. looks very heavenly. >> see the angel? >> i could totally see it. all right. makes me a believer. well, good tuesday morning, everybody. we're going to start with what is described as a house of horrors in california. ten children removed from a home after police say they were abused and tortured for sadistic reasons. >> both parents now face charges and this morning we're getting a new look inside the home as the children's mother blames the conditions there on police. >> this is absolutely appalling. >> reporter: ina rogers is speaking out after she and her husband were charged with abusing and even torturing their ten children. >> i strive and i pride myself on being a good parent to my children. my husband has a lot of tattoos. he looks like a scary individual and that's why people are so quick to judge him but

absolutely not. my husband is an amazing person. i am an amazing mother. >> reporter: but police in fairfield, california, have a different take. they say this case started in late march when rogers' 12-year-old son ran away. he was found a short time later but officers say they also found nine other kids living in filth. >> garbage and spoiled food on the floor. animal and human feces and a large amount of debris making areas of the house unpassable. >> reporter: rogers claims police made the mess during their search. >> they tore up everything. and i haven't had time to clean it because i've been back and forth to work. i work graveyard so -- >> reporter: police arrested rogers and her husband jonathan allen. rogers is now out on bail after being charged with abuse while allen remains in jail facing more serious charges including child cruelty and torture. >> the children describe incidents of intentional abuse resulting in puncture wounds, burns, bruising and injuries consistent with being shot with a pellet gun or a bb gun. >> reporter: rogers says she

homeschools her 11 children while working full time as a medical technician. >> not only do i have 11 children and i am 30 years old, but i also homeschool all of my children and people don't agree with that lifestyle and so i've had many people question my right to parent and i just feel like this whole situation was exploded. >> reporter: this case comes just months after another california couple was charged with torture accused of shackling and starving 12 of their children. david and louise turpin are now awaiting trial. earlier this month david turpin was charged with lying to authorities to get a homeschooling license. and in this newest case the children have been placed in the custody of their aunt and grandmother. prosecutors are trying to determine if more charges will be filed against rogers. her husband has pleaded not guilty. now to washington and first lady melania trump who is in the hospital at this hour after a medical procedure. mrs. trump was treated for an unspecified kidney condition.

and many questions remain about the surgery itself. abc's janai norman has the very latest for us. janai, what are we learning? >> reporter: well, kendis, you know, this news was kept under wraps in a white house that's known for leaks. the first lady's office released few details monday but did say that that procedure was successful. first lady melania trump is recovering at walter reed medical center after being treated for a benign kidney condition. on monday president trump boarded marine one heading to visit her ignoring questions from reporters. >> mr. president, how is the first lady doing? how is she feeling after surgery? mr. president, why didn't you go earlier to the hospital? >> reporter: the president wasn't by his wife's side as doctors performed an embolization, a procedure to plug up a blood vessel to stop bleeding. a senior administration official tells abc news he spoke with her beforehand and with her doctors immediately after. >> i'm pleased to report the procedure was a success and melania is already on the mend.

>> reporter: the surprise announcement came with few details and word mrs. trump will likely remain in the hospital for the rest of the week. >> well, after this type of procedure we watch for bleeding, we monitor kidney function and we make sure pain control is adequate. if she does stay in the hospital a full five days, we've learned that that will be the longest first lady hospital stay since nancy reagan. >> reporter: and this morning it's still unclear exactly what the first lady's condition is and it also remains unclear why president trump wasn't at the hospital for her procedure. kendis. >> yeah, he joined her some several hours later in the afternoon. janai norman in d.c. for us, thank you. now to the middle east and fears about more deadly protests after the u.s. embassy opening in jerusalem. at least 58 palestinians were killed and thousands wounded monday when israeli forces opened fire. the white house blames the palestinian militant group hamas for the violence. abc's molly hunter is on the israeli/gaza border for us right now. molly. >> reporter: diane and kendis, good morning. we're on the israeli side of the

israeli gaza crossing. you see all of those cars behind me. those are measly journalists waiting to cross into gaza. today was supposed to be the big day of process. it's nakba day. it's the day after the march and it's the day they were forced from their homes and forced to plea. but yesterday was much bigger than expected. 70,000 to 80,000 palestinians and the israeli military on the other side lobbing tear gas canisters, sending drones over with tear gas. 58 people at least have been killed. nearly 3,000 injured. that's the deadliest protest day sims the first intefadeh in 1987 so in gaza there will be a lot of funerals but there is a lot of anger and they have called for more to come out in protest today. molly hunter on the phone

for us, thank you. observers noted jared kushner's statement at the embassy when he called protesters in gaza part of the problem, well, that was omitted from the official transcript of his speech released by the white house. senator john mccain's daughter meghan says that she assumes the public apology that she was promised after that crass comment about her dad will never come. the white house says the aide who made the remark about mccain dying has been dealt with internally but offered no details and no public apology. instead they're focusing on how the comment was actually leaked in the first place. now, the senior adviser kellyanne conway tells fox news that staffers are using the media to shiv each other. president trump tweeted leakers and traitors and cowards, well, we will find out who they are. kellyanne also that says she expects personnel changes to come as a result. more than 140,000 power outages have been reported after severe storms tore through the mid-atlantic region with winds up to 70 miles per hour. hundreds of passengers at dulles airport had to shelter in an underground tunnel during a tornado warning. lightning also caused two

serious house fires in maryland. and now let's take a look at your tuesday forecast. >> good morning. thanks to this cold front draping across the northeast and the ohio valley region bracing for severe storms for tuesday afternoon and evening with damaging winds, flash flooding and travel disruptions along i-81, i-80 and 95 from d.c., philly, new york, up towards boston. for the southeast drenching storms courtesy of this low pressure system and another set of isolated storms throughout central portions of texas and in addition to that by late in the week more in the way of thunderstorms east of the mississippi. i'm accuweather meteorologist paul williams. well, coming up, bill o'reilly's possible return to cable news. but first has the mystery of malaysia airlines flight 370 finally been solved? the latest theory about the plane that seemingly vanished in the indian ocean. and later, new details about the royal wedding drama and why

we're back with that pretty we're back with that pretty incredible video of two planes colliding at the airport in istanbul, turkey. asian anna jet taxiing takeoff when it sliced the tail of a turkish airlines plane that was parked at the time. you see the results there. the crash caused a small fire and extensive damage to the plane, but no injuries were reported. four years after malaysia flight 370 vanished out of the sky, experts may finally know what happened. a panel of investigators has determined the pilot likely depressurized the plane knocking out the others on board before intentionally crashing into the indian ocean. now before the crash the plane also took a detour over malaysia and dipped its wing. the panel says that suggests the

pilot was getting one last look at his hometown. the plane crashed with 239 people on board. most of the wreckage has not been found. authorities in hawaii now say the air quality near the kilauea volcano is at condition red, which means an immediate danger to health. more cracks are opening up emitting toxic gases. lava, which is flowing up to 100 yards per hour is also shooting hundreds of feet into the air at times as you can see there. now, scientists believe a major explosion is imminent. and a new report estimates the volcano has cost the region at least $5 million just in lost tourism revenue. an internal watchdog says embattled epa administrator scott pruitt requested around the clock security as soon as he was confirmed. now, that appears to contradict pruitt's earlier claims that the 24-hour protection was recommended after an increased number of threats against him. the epa has spent a reported $3

million on pruitt's full time security detail, far more than his predecessors. missouri's governor eric greitens is claiming vindication after a felony invasion of privacy charge against him was abruptly dropped. the republican has denied taking nude photos of a woman without her consent during an extramarital affair. now, the felony case was dropped in the middle of jury selection, this because the prosecutor was called as a witness in that case. well, now prosecutors are banking on the appointment of a special prosecutor who could then refile the charge. the defense says that's unlikely. bill o'reilly is reportedly planning a return to cable news. "the new york post" reports the former fox news anchor is in advanced discussions with the conservative network newsmax tv. o'reilly was fired by fox last april after the disclosure of sexual harassment allegations against him and settlements paid to alleged victims. coming up, why meghan markle's father is skipping the royal wedding. also, the ruling from the supreme court that allows gambling on sports.

photos in exchange for $140,000. meghan's estranged half-sister says it was all her idea. >> yeah, i am entirely the culprit. there's a lot of scrutiny that it was money motivated. it was not. it was my suggestion that to benefit him and to benefit the royal family -- >> thomas markle also told tmz that he had a heart attack a week ago and recently suffered more chest pains. kensington palace has released a statement saying prince harry and meghan are requesting understanding and respect for markle's father. and your emotional support hedgehog no longer welcome to fly the friendly skies. american airlines has revised its guidelines for comfort animals on flights. the airline released a list of support animals that are now off-limits. they include insects, goats, ferrets, chickens, hogs, hedgehogs, wow, quite a bit. so the guidelines say miniature horses are still okay. >> yes. >> that's good to know as long as they're properly trained.

>> all right, mini horses for everybody. we're getting some new reaction this morning after a supreme court decision struck down a ban on sports betting. the decision could be a windfall for some states with an estimated $1 billion in annual gaming revenue. but major league baseball says the decision will have profound effects on the league. abc's maggie rulli has more. >> reporter: the supreme court ushers in a new era of sports betting. >> the supreme court's decision in many ways acknowledges that sports betting is something much more normal in society today. it's been normalized in many ways. >> reporter: the justices voting to give states the go ahead to allow sports gambling across the nation striking down a federal law from 1992 that banned sports betting in most states. >> it's a big win for states' rights. no state is required to allow it. today's ruling doesn't answer the question one way or another but it leaves the question to the states. >> reporter: many states have hoped their cut of legalized sports gambling could help solve budget problems. >> they now get to charge taxes on some of those bets increasing their revenue. >> reporter: and new jersey has

led the push for change. >> i think that's going to be a great thing for the people of the state who are sports fans and who like to put a wager on a sporting event and also good for the state from a revenue perspective. >> reporter: the national football league is taking a more measured response calling on congress to enact core regulations around the newly legalized sports betting industry. but the big winner in the ruling -- >> well, it's a win for the casual fan, many of whom wanted to bet legally but couldn't in their particular state. now they'll be able to do it legally once the state passes those laws. >> reporter: now this new ruling doesn't mean that people can just start placing bets from their couch right away. instead it means that states will start setting up regulations and infrastructure around sports betting. diane and kendis. >> all right. our thanks to maggie there. a lot of people are betting on lebron james and the cavaliers evening up their playoff series with the celtics tonight. last night, by the way, kevin durant led the warriors as golden state beat houston, 119-106. it takes the first game in that series. and how about some hockey? the golden knights tied up their

taken away by ambulance. can you see a really large area roped off as police continue to investigate. we do have calls into san jose police. i'll let you know as soon as we get an update from officials during our newscast on this scene. back to you. >> thank you, jessica. happening today the trump administration will try to persuade a federal appeals court it was justified ending the daca program. in january the judge blocked the administration from canceling the program. the government wants appeals court to overturn the ruling. at a later date a written decision at headquarters. daca has protected 700,000 undocumented immigrants from being deported. first group of national guard troops arrived at the california national border. 51 troops deployed yesterday. officials say their job is going to be behind the scenes providing critical support to border patrol agents. they will not be assigned to frontline border security.
