absolutely not. my husband is an amazing person. i am an amazing mother. >> reporter: but police in fairfield, california, have a different take. they say this case started in late march when rogers' 12-year-old son ran away. he was found a short time later but officers say they also found nine other kids living in filth. >> garbage and spoiled food on the floor. animal and human feces and a large amount of debris making areas of the house unpassable. >> reporter: rogers claims police made the mess during their search. >> they tore up everything. and i haven't had time to clean it because i've been back and forth to work. i work graveyard so -- >> reporter: police arrested rogers and her husband jonathan allen. rogers is now out on bail after being charged with abuse while allen remains in jail facing more serious charges including child cruelty and torture. >> the children describe incidents of intentional abuse resulting in puncture wounds, burns, bruising and injuries consistent with being shot with a pellet gun or a bb gun. >> reporter: rogers says she

homeschools her 11 children while working full time as a medical technician. >> not only do i have 11 children and i am 30 years old, but i also homeschool all of my children and people don't agree with that lifestyle and so i've had many people question my right to parent and i just feel like this whole situation was exploded. >> reporter: this case comes just months after another california couple was charged with torture accused of shackling and starving 12 of their children. david and louise turpin are now awaiting trial. earlier this month david turpin was charged with lying to authorities to get a homeschooling license. and in this newest case the children have been placed in the custody of their aunt and grandmother. prosecutors are trying to determine if more charges will be filed against rogers. her husband has pleaded not guilty. now to washington and first lady melania trump who is in the hospital at this hour after a medical procedure. mrs. trump was treated for an unspecified kidney condition.

and many questions remain about the surgery itself. abc's janai norman has the very latest for us. janai, what are we learning? >> reporter: well, kendis, you know, this news was kept under wraps in a white house that's known for leaks. the first lady's office released few details monday but did say that that procedure was successful. first lady melania trump is recovering at walter reed medical center after being treated for a benign kidney condition. on monday president trump boarded marine one heading to visit her ignoring questions from reporters. >> mr. president, how is the first lady doing? how is she feeling after surgery? mr. president, why didn't you go earlier to the hospital? >> reporter: the president wasn't by his wife's side as doctors performed an embolization, a procedure to plug up a blood vessel to stop bleeding. a senior administration official tells abc news he spoke with her beforehand and with her doctors immediately after. >> i'm pleased to report the procedure was a success and melania is already on the mend.

>> reporter: the surprise announcement came with few details and word mrs. trump will likely remain in the hospital for the rest of the week. >> well, after this type of procedure we watch for bleeding, we monitor kidney function and we make sure pain control is adequate. if she does stay in the hospital a full five days, we've learned that that will be the longest first lady hospital stay since nancy reagan. >> reporter: and this morning it's still unclear exactly what the first lady's condition is and it also remains unclear why president trump wasn't at the hospital for her procedure. kendis. >> yeah, he joined her some several hours later in the afternoon. janai norman in d.c. for us, thank you. now to the middle east and fears about more deadly protests after the u.s. embassy opening in jerusalem. at least 58 palestinians were killed and thousands wounded monday when israeli forces opened fire. the white house blames the palestinian militant group hamas for the violence. abc's molly hunter is on the israeli/gaza border for us right now. molly. >> reporter: diane and kendis, good morning. we're on the israeli side of the

we're back with that pretty we're back with that pretty incredible video of two planes colliding at the airport in istanbul, turkey. asian anna jet taxiing takeoff when it sliced the tail of a turkish airlines plane that was parked at the time. you see the results there. the crash caused a small fire and extensive damage to the plane, but no injuries were reported. four years after malaysia flight 370 vanished out of the sky, experts may finally know what happened. a panel of investigators has determined the pilot likely depressurized the plane knocking out the others on board before intentionally crashing into the indian ocean. now before the crash the plane also took a detour over malaysia and dipped its wing. the panel says that suggests the

pilot was getting one last look at his hometown. the plane crashed with 239 people on board. most of the wreckage has not been found. authorities in hawaii now say the air quality near the kilauea volcano is at condition red, which means an immediate danger to health. more cracks are opening up emitting toxic gases. lava, which is flowing up to 100 yards per hour is also shooting hundreds of feet into the air at times as you can see there. now, scientists believe a major explosion is imminent. and a new report estimates the volcano has cost the region at least $5 million just in lost tourism revenue. an internal watchdog says embattled epa administrator scott pruitt requested around the clock security as soon as he was confirmed. now, that appears to contradict pruitt's earlier claims that the 24-hour protection was recommended after an increased number of threats against him. the epa has spent a reported $3

million on pruitt's full time security detail, far more than his predecessors. missouri's governor eric greitens is claiming vindication after a felony invasion of privacy charge against him was abruptly dropped. the republican has denied taking nude photos of a woman without her consent during an extramarital affair. now, the felony case was dropped in the middle of jury selection, this because the prosecutor was called as a witness in that case. well, now prosecutors are banking on the appointment of a special prosecutor who could then refile the charge. the defense says that's unlikely. bill o'reilly is reportedly planning a return to cable news.
