live where you live, this is abc 7 news. one man dead, and another injured after a double shooting at a busy shopping center in san jose. meantime, police are investigating reports of yet another shooting just one mile away. thanks for joining us. i'm kristen sze. the shooting victims were discovered this morning. this is san jose's second homicide in just over a week. abc 7 news reporter matt keller is live at the scene, matt? >> reporter: this investigation wrapped up an hour and and a half ago so it's business as usual, but a double shooting is making a lot of people nervous. it's disconcerning to see crime scene tape up in your

neighborhood. >> probably typical of what's going on lately around here. >> reporter: police were called to the downer shopping center this morning. officers quickly taped off the parking lot to start their investigation. two men were found with gunshot wounds and taken to the hospital. one died. one had nonlife threatening injuries. >> it's so sad. it's horrible to have this happen. >> reporter: san jose police are investigating to see if a a shooting around the same time, but a half mile away on snell avenue is related. the department said they were unavailable to talk to the media. people were frustrating with what's happening in their neighborhood. >> it's scary because our kids are not safe out here. it's sad. >> reporter: police say so far no arrests. san jose police say it's the eighth homicide of the year here in san jose. reporting live in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> thank you.

a scary morning for people inside this victorian home in downtown san jose. the fire broke out before 5:00. this is on east james street. three people escaped and displaced. facing several instances of sexual harassment, and he announced resignation and suspending the campaign for the board of supervisors. he works at santa clara high school as a civics teacher. students accused of caserta of unwanted hugging and unnecessary comments. they said in part the allegations against me are false in every sense of the word, yet i've been tried and convicted in the court of public opinion without due process or recognition of my distinguished service to the school or to the

city. new at 11:00, the faa is investigating after somebody pointed a laser at an airplane flying into the bay area from israel. it took place just before 6:00 this morning as a united flight originating from tel-aviv was coming in for a landing at sfo. this is a live look at the airport. officials say the laser did not affect the pilots or the landing. police interviewed the crew they are trying to find the person who pointed the laser. the mother accused of abusing her ten children as they lived in squaller in fairfield is keeping quiet today. she and her husband are charged after a six week investigation. meantime, their neighbors are expressing shock over the discovery. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live in fairfield, amy? >> reporter: kristen, it's quiet here on field stone court. the children taken from the home. they are in the care of relat e relativ relatives. their dad is in jail. mom is out on bail, but she is staying quiet inside.

>> public defender's office. >> reporter: two people knocked on ina roger's door this morning identifying themselves as being from the public defenders office. she did not want to open the door. they coaxed her into doing it quickly, her out of view of the tv cameras. this after yesterday, she boldly declared her innocence. >> i strive and thrive myself on being a good parent. >> reporter: while she was quiet inside this morning, her neighbor across the street told us he's surprised to hear the accusations against the couple. >> we was shocked, but, you know, because, you know, they are pretty much like friendly, you know, whenever i see them in and out of the house, we wave if we see them, especially the husband. >> reporter: rogers faces child endangerment charges and allen faces charges of abuse against their ten children ages four months to 12 years old. police and prosecutors say they were horrified by the statements from some of the kids. >> the children described

incidents of intentional abuse resulting in puncture wounds, burns, bruising, and injuries consistent with being shot with a pellet gun or a bb gun. >> reporter: police released pictures from inside the home describing it as full of trash, feces, and rotting food. their neighbors said he had no idea ten kids lived across the street from him in this quiet fairfield cul-de-sac. >> i walk my dog twice a day, you know, my wife works here, and if there is, like, if there's been kids playing, i would hear. >> reporter: prosecutors are looking into whether more charges need to be filed against the couple. that decision could come within the next few days. live in fairfield, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you. new this morning, uber is taking steps to shake up the image of a company that keeps allegations of sexual assaults secret. the san francisco based company announced a policy today that they allow riders and drivers to

file allegations of rape and other sexual misconduct in court rather than locked into arbitration hearings. uber got rid of policy requirements settlements of sexual misconduct be kept confidential. new developments in the wake of racism allegations at the san jose police department. a muslim civil rights organization sent a letter to the police chief demanding the department investigate complaints of racial bias and take action and wants police officers to go through cultural sensitivity training, and last week, we told you the officer filed a harassment claim against the city saying he's been regularly called taliban, isis, and lebanese bomber since the 9/11 attacks. his lawyer says he filed an internal complaint with the police department in november, but it was never addressed. san jose police department would not comment on the pending lawsuit, but says diversity is the department's biggest strength.

happening today, the trump administration tries to convince a federal appeals court it was justified in ending the daca program. in january, a judge blocked the administration from cap sencell the program that protects young people who came to the u.s. illegally as children. the government wants to overturn the ruling. a three judge panel hears the arguments in pasadena. in a later day-to-day, there's going to be a written decision here in san francisco. happens today, the airport commission at sfo hears a proposal that makes uber or lift rides kos costlier for some travelers. they are considering a premium fee for ridesers dropped off or picked up curb side. they are considering converting a a parking area on the upper level of the central garage into a ride sharing area. rides to and from that pickup point would not be subject to the fee. a 19th crack opened kilauea volcano.

wolf has died in a new york city hospital. additional details are not available. wolf was known for writing "the right stuff" and "bonfire of the vanities," the best selling books in the 1980s. the style was filled with exclamation points, italics, and unique words. he was 88 years old. first lady melania trump is recovering after undergoing surgery to treat a a benign kidney condition and remains in the hospital for the rest of the week. president trump was not by his wife's side as doctors performed a procedure to plug up a blood vessel to stop bleeding. a senior administration official tells abc news the president spoke with her before the surgery and with her doctors immediately after. now to the middle east where funerals are held today for dozens of palestinians killed after israeli troops opened fire on a group of protesters. abc's molly hunter is in gaza with more on what's become the deadliest day of violence there

of the protest, says he's not afraid and not stopping until they reach the israel's capital of jerusalem. the fence is a quarter mile that way and there's ambulances here set up close to the front in case anything goes wrong, and those funerals are now over and crowds are really starting to gather for another round of protests. molly hunter, abc news, gaza. a 19th crack opened up miles from the kilauea volcano on the big island of hawaii, spewing hot lava and toxic gases. there's a condition red alert warning people the gases being released pose an immediate danger to public health. meantime, the usgs warned those living nearby the volcano could still explode. according to tmz, thomas markle has had a change of heart. he now says he wants to go to england and walk his daughter down the aisle after all.

all right, let's talk about what's been happening throughout the morning hours, another may gray start, and it's going to continue to be that way for another hour or so. we'll see a little more sunshine this afternoon, and temperatures keep us or clouds keep us from getting too cool in the overnight hours, temperatures in the low to mid 50s, and right now, we are mainly in the upper 50s and low 60s where the sun has been out little longer in morgan hill at 64, same in livermore, concord, and fairfield, and 65 in antioch. talk about the accuweather highlights, slightly brighter

today. you need the sunglasses in more areas and sooner, but the temperatures are still going to fall short of average. now, tonight, we got a little chunk of energy coming it's going to energyize the at m -- atmosphere, and a warming trend begins friday getting temperatures to average throughout the weekend. upper 50s today and low 60s in the coast and san francisco, low to mid-60s in the bay, and north bay, and upper 60s to a few 70s in the inland east bay neighborhoods and down into the south bay. let's look at what's going on in the beaches today. it's gray and chilly. if you are exercising, once the sun is out, it's strong. it's not as volatile on the bay today, no small craft advisory like yesterday. the next 12 hours, plan out your day, temperatures, you can see steady in the upper 50s through 4:00 at the coast r a, and drop into the mid-50s by 8:00, and low 50s at midnight. for rest of us, mid-60s at noon,

4:00, mid to upper 50s, need the coat at 8:00, and mid-50s at midnight. going to the game? yeah. it's going to be about the same as yesterday. 57 at 7:15, and dropping down to about 55, and same weather, just about, hopefully the same results and the giants win. lows tonight, a lot of low to mid-50s here. a few exceptions, lakeport in the upper faurt40s. going from noon to 8:00 today, you see clouds decrease, and then they push back in, and you can see green start to show up during the overnight hours. that's drizzle to a spotty light shower, and that'll be around during the morning commute, and not very much of it, and then, again, during the late afternoon into the early evening hours, and then that chance disappears. it's not great, but if you get caught in it, it could be slippery at times, and make you wish that you had an umbrella. i probably wouldn't carry one, but that's just me. here's a look at the accuweather seven-day forecast.

american airlines has updated its pet policy. passengers who want to bring service animals on board now have to file paperwork 48 hours before the flight. american banned some animals because they pose a safety or public health risk. the ban includes insects, goats, hedgehogs, ferrets, spiders, d birds like chicken and hawks. they support passengers with support animals, but they want to keep everybody safe. tinder tracks locations through the app and lets potential matches know the places you frequent. according to the verge, the app determines which locations are added to the list. it knows to omit things like doctor's offices, banks, and where you live and work, but it may show your favorite coffee shop, gym, or bar. it's an opt-in and expected to launch later this year.
