right now, northbound 880 remains shut down this hour after a deadly crash late last night. it killed three people and five others are hurt. we just learned a short time ago that those five hospitalized include one adult male and four kids. good morning, everyone. thanks for joining us. it's wednesday, may 16th. this is a major investigation that's been taking more than seven hours already. >> what a terrible crash. our hearts are heavy any time you hear children are involved. we're hearing a driver has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana. >> matt keller just got new information from the chp. what do we know? >> reporter: we did just talk

with the chp and they gave us new information. one of the pieces of information is that they are planning on having the whole northbound lanes, all the northbound lanes of 880 open hopefully within the next half hour or so. they may be opening up one lane shortly in the next few minutes. you can see they're trying to move that cadillac escalade off to the side. that is the vehicle that eight people were traveling in last night when this crash happened. it rolled and three people were ejected from that vehicle, three people did die. here's video from the scene from overnight. a huge response from emergency crews on the northbound side of 880 in fremont between auto mall parkway and stevenson boulevard. three people were killed, a woman, a young adult in teens. five others were taken to the hospital including the infant. we did just hear the infant is okay but the other juvenile is

in critical condition. >> prior to that we received calls of a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed recklessly. it appears that vehicle that was report earlier was the cause of the collision. >> the chp says the man at the wheel of a white toyota camry was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana. that driver appears to be okay but is being checked out at the hospital. they have one other vehicle they need to get out of the way. the chp says they hope to have this open by 5:30 this morning. live in fremont, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> we appreciate the update. thank you. we're going to see how traffic is affected so far this morning. seeing any volumes building? >> not yet, reggie. it's still early enough, especially in this location that we're not seeing huge delays. we have surface street options as well. this is where our sig alert is, northbound 880, all traffic forced off at auto mall parkway.
