right now at 6:00, sky 7 live over breaking news in fremont. crews are just about done cleaning up interstate 880 after a horrific crash left three people dead late last night. this has been a major investigation through out the night. the freeway has been closed for more than eight hours. >> we know this morning two of the victims were under the age of 18. the investigator says a driver was under the influence of marijuana. >> abc 7's matt keller live in fremont. >> reporter: good morning. a horrific crash in fremont. you can see one of the vehicles involved is on the back of the tow truck, this cadillac escalade. you can see the damage that was done to that. they are still working on getting this -- all the lanes open for traffic. hopefully they'll do that in the next couple minutes here. here is video from the scene from last night.

the chp says one of the five vehicles involved, that cadillac escalade rolled over several times in the crash. eight people were inside. three people were ejected, a woman, a young adult in their teens and a juvenile killed. five others in the vehicle were hurt and taken to the hospital. four of them were juveniles. one is in critical condition. chp says the man at the while of a white toyota camry was reported to be speeding and driving recklessly. >> they determined he was under the influence of marijuana. >> reporter: the driver was arrested. the drivers of the three other vehicles involved were not involved. the chp expects to release more information later this morning on the person who was arrested. we'll monitor the situation. waiting for them to open up the northbound lanes of 880 in fremont. live in fremont, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> alexis, what are you watching? >> live to sky 7.

back live to sky 7 over the scene in fremont. this is a crash we've been following for more than 8 1/2 hours. it happened about 9:30 last night. we still have the full closure of northbound 880, everyone

forced off at auto mall parkway. a deadly crash, three people died in the collision last night just north of there at stevenson. initially chp was hoping to have lanes back open by 5:30 this morning. they still haven't opened any lanes. as we zoom in to the scene, it looks like we're getting close. we may be seeing the first few vehicles heading through that closure right now. perhaps we've got a couple lanes back open. although to me a couple moments ago, it looked like we still had vehicles forced off. i'll have an update in a few. let's check in with mike nicco. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. guerneville and mill valley, clear lake in the upper 40s, everybody else in the low to mid 50s in the north bay. coupe tone know at about 47 degrees. a deck of broken cloud cover from the exploratorium. you'll need the sunglasses faster today. temperatures remain comfortable.

these are cumulous clouds that will build up and drop a spinningal or showers mixed in with sunshine today. it will be cool with a trance tapering tonight. warming back to average before another cooling trend next week. along 128 towards saint helena and calistoga, you can also see this storm could hit calistoga at about 6:35. it's about 6:20 right now. that gives you a little time to get ready for a brief push of wet weather. in oak dale, a thunderstorm developing. put these into motion and with an area of low pressure over top of us, they're moving in a counterclock wise fashion. they'll move from southeast to northwest. the best chance in the north bay, the central valley in the sierras as we head into the lunch hour. showers developing off the coast and some could rotate into our neighborhoods. by 8:00, you can see a little tapering, maybe a stray shower tonight or a sprinkle. tomorrow afternoon there's a

terrible crash that occurred here last night. three people killed, but the good news is after 8 1/2 hours of having northbound 880 closed here at auto mall parkway to stevenson boulevard, it's back open. it's been open for about 20 minutes now. you can see traffic moving well. here is video of the cadillac escalade being moved out of the way. the escalade rolled several times. three were killed and five others hurt and taken to the hospital. four were juveniles. one is in critical condition. chp says the man at the wheel of a white toyota camry was reported to be speeding and driving recklessly before the crash. he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana. >> the decision this person made to drive under the influence changed these people's lives forever. driving under the influence of marijuana is just as bad as driving under the influence of

alcohol. >> that driver appeared to be okay but taken to the hospital to be checked out. the driver of the three other vehicles involved were not hurt. matt keller, abc 7 news. new developments in the central subway fiasco. san francisco has investigated the contractor of installing the wrong steel before. conquest has several contracts with sfmta. this is video from chinatown where the city claims workers incorrectly installed standard strength instead of high strength steel. they're accused of doing the same thing as a muni rail yard in february. an investigation then found the contractor did not install the wrong rail. there may be help for residents of a santa rosa mobile home park. a proposal to convert horse stables into temporary housing according to "the chronicle." last month we reported 40 mobile

homes remain standing after the north bay wildfires. homeowners say insurance won't pay out for them. because the park is still red tagged, they can't live there. many residents are low income or retired seniors. this morning, the san francisco police commission is effectively paralyzed after a surprising board of supervisors vote last night. the board rejected the reappointment of joseph marshal and sonia melara. without the two, the commission has only three members which is not enough to hold meetings or make any decisions. their work includes taser use policy, doj reforms about police shootings and a search for a new police chief if bill scott gets lapd's top job. >> they've done a great job for the residents of san francisco. this is all politics and it's embarrassing for the board of supervisors to do this. >> instead of just rubber stamping and going the easy route which is what mayor farrell was proposing, i think we need to put a little more

thought and energy into selecting highly motivated new candidates. >> other supervisors who rejected the reappointment say they think the new mayor should make the decisions after the june election. look at this huge plume of ash. i want to get you the latest on hawaii's big island. a new burst of volcanic ash spewing from kilauea. we know overnight a new fissure opened up. that brings the total of cracks up to 20 at this point. there's a code red for air quality near those active fissures. hazardous sulfur dioxide is, quote, an immediate danger to health, and kill wah yeah's caldrons have dropped more than 1,000 feet. that means scientists are warning everyone when that water hits the water table, it could trigger a major eruption.
