smiles meetings between kim jong un and the secretary of state to an angry statement by north korea's chief negotiator, saying he is totally disappointed by the extremely unjust recent comments by u.s. officials. singled out the american demand that north korea give up all its nuclear weapons before getting anything in return. >> we want to see the denuclearization process so completely under way that it's irreversible. >> reporter: north korea now says such talk could scuttle the summit. if the u.s. is trying to drive us into a corner to force our unilateral nuclear abandonment, we will no longer be interested in such dialogue. the north koreans seem particularly upset by national security adviser john bolton, who called on them to do what libya did more than a decade ago. >> we had very much in mind the libya model from 2003-2004. >> reporter: the libya model?

>> we have people coming into the country, trying to come in. we're stopping a lot of them. but we're taking people out of the country. you wouldn't believe how bad these people are, these aren't people. these are animals. >> the president made those comment after a california sheriff complained about being unable to deport known gang members. california governor jerry brown fired back at the president tweeting that, quote, president trump is lying about immigration, lying about crime and lying about the laws of california. and the president's lead attorney, rudy giuliani tells cnn even if robert mueller finds evidence of wrongdoing he will not indict donald trump. he says they acknowledge they cannot indict a sitting president. but legal experts point out that's not a law, just a policy followed by the justice department. buildings and roads at hawaii's national park have been damaged.

politicians to flatter him and praise his reckless policies changes nothing. as the sanctuary debate continues to play out, abc news has learned the trump administration is now considering separating children caught crossing illegally and possibly housing them at military bases. natalie burnell, abc news, los angeles. president trump's financial papers shows that he paid michael cohen for, quote, expenses. it makes no specific mention about the $130,000 in hush money that cohen paid to the porn actress stormy daniels. just last month, trump publicly denied knowing anything about cohen's payment to daniels. the head of the government ethics office says trump should have disclosed information last year and is referring the matter to the justice department.

turns out donald trump jr. admitted to the meeting in trump tower in order to get dirt on hillary clinton. trump jr. said he didn't think he did anything wrong by meeting with that lawyer, and he insisted that he never told his father the meeting was taking place. the white house is brushing off north korea's threats to cancel the summit between kim jong un and president trump. a senior north korean diplomat says his country has no interest in a one-sided meeting to pressure north korea to abandon its nuclear weapons, but the trump administration says it's not surprised by the threat. >> this is something that we fully expected. the president is very used and ready for tough negotiations, and if they want to meet, we'll be ready. and if they don't, that's okay too. >> the summit is scheduled for next month in singapore. sarah sanders says if it doesn't happen, the u.s. will continue, to, quote, put maximum pressure on north korea.

president trump told reporters he hadn't heard anything about canceling the summit. overnight, israel says it hit new targets in northern gaza. it says it hit buildings in what it calls terror infrastructure. they say it was response to the machine gunfire in southern israel. hamas says most of the people killed in monday's demonstrations were hamas members. new earthquakes near the kilauea volcano. one caused damage to roads and buildings in the national park and they expect them to become more frequent. in the meantime, kilauea is spewing ash into the air. this time lapse shows it coming up near a golf course in the national park. officials warn the wind is changing direction and now pushing the ash toward hilo. the main city there.
