the mid to upper 60s at 4:00 and mid 50s to 60s at road work slowing you down in the east bay. if you're traveling on eastbound 580, typically that's a pretty smooth drive, but not lately with the bridge work between grove way and palaver day, not scheduled to wrap until 6:00. i'd say we're up to about two or three miles of backup approaching that. westbound 580 road work has cleared in tracy, but ten miles an hour, 16 miles an hour, that's still heavy through that area. a community is grieving after this crash on 880 in fremont that killed three people including two children. >> the driver suspected of being under the influence of marijuana at the time. amy hollyfield live in manteca where one of the victims went to school. amy? >> reporter: hi, reggie. we're at sierra high school

where students are suffering the loss of a classmate. 14-year-old christie limas was a member of the future farmers of america. she was killed along with two others inside a cadillac escalade. they died on interstate 880 in fremont. investigators say the driver who caused the crash was under the influence of marijuana. >> i've known her since third grade. we became best friends in six grade. she's been by my side ever since then. hard losing her especially under those circumstances. >> christie was killed along with 39-year-old noelle johnson and 9-year-old brooke limas. the driver who investigators blame for the crash is 21-year-old dang tran. he is in jail, expected to be arraigned this afternoon. grief counselors will be on campus all week to help students with this loss.

reporting live from hollyfie hollyfield, abc 7 news. today announcements for plans for a special medical team to treat homeless individuals with a drug that stops heroin cravings. the chronicle reports the mayor wants to set aside $6 million in the budget to fund the team over the next two years. trained professionals would prescribe the drug to certain individuals. officials say nearly 60% of about 200 people who begin treatment are working on staying clean. also today, the salvation army will pass out food, socks and hygiene kits to the homeless in san francisco. this video shows how dire the situation is. obviously there is a great need here. al investigation army officers and volunteers will serve the area between 1:30 and 4:00 this afternoon. crews in contra costa county are keeping an eye on this scene

after a fire broke out. this is outside martinez on franklin canyon road. they responded aggressively in part to concern over the start of wildfire season. 54 firefighters and ten support personnel were on hand. they kept the fire to two acres. four rvs, a boat and storage container were destroyed. no one was hurt. right around the same time yesterday we told you about a missing 14-year-old boy in fremont, we wanted to update you a security guard found the teenager. the boy is now back with his family. >> a vallejo family is speaking only on abc 7 after falling a lawsuit against pappa murphy's restaurant chain. the family says they got sick by painted romaine lettuce. they picked up pizza and salad. three family members got sick and they believe the contamination came from these salads. the youngest, a toddler suffered a life-threatening illness that damaged her kidneys and red

blood cells. >> her kidney numbers, her functions were dropping. her hemoglobin started dropping. >> the family is seeking unspecified damages. pappa murphy's has not responded on our request for comment. the centers for disease control says it may finally be safe to eat romaine lettuce again. the last batch of potentially tainted lettuce is over t.cdc says it's unlikely any of the tainted lettuce is left. in total 172 people got sick in 32 states and one person died. oakland unified is dealing with a lot, a teacher shortage, an affordable housing shortage, a qualified candidate shortage. a job fair is giving new hope for applicants and the city. abc 7 news reporter kate larsen was there. >> they teach different subl jekts and have different reasons for wanting to work in oakland, but have a similar problem.

i'm falling a deadly hit-and-run in oakland. police say one person is dead, another person had to be taken to the hospital. anit3:00 this morning on the corner of 98th and bancroftav enue. it he video. look at that white car there. the white car rolled onto its side, wrapped around a pole. the black car has major damage to the front end of the car. police have not released details about a possible suspect in this. it's a hit-and-run. they're looking for the suspect. a south bay teacher accused of sexual harassment will not be fired. our media partner of the bay area news group reports dominic caserta will remain a sive vicks teacher. he resigned from the city council and withdrew from the county supervisor race. several women including former students say he behaved inappropriately towards them.

he denies the allegations. many parents of course unhappy with the school district's decision to keep caserta on staff. in response, the district says it is creating a sexual harassment task force. it will educate parents and students about recognizing harassment and how to report it back to court. this time we expect his ex will take the stand. >> she violence but is expected to say she made up the charges. >> reporter: this is a big day for reuben foster at the hall of justice in san jose. his case is moving quickly as he tries to get his legal issues resolved. today is his preliminary hearing. foster is facing three felonies relating to an alleged domestic violence incident in february. his former girlfriend recanted her story publicly through her attorney. they say her injuries happened during a fight with another

woman and there is video to prove it. that video has been turned over to the district attorney's office. her attorney told "the sacramento bee" ennis plans on testifying today. that will ultimately be up to the prosecution. legal analyst stephen clark says the da's office may want to call her to the stand to get her testimony on the record. the judge will decide if there's enough evidence for the case to move forward. a trial could come by mid summer. live in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. this morning san francisco police need your help identifying the man you see here. investigators say his pit bulls bit four people and another dog. that attack happened on sunday at mission dolores park in the grassy area above the basketball court. a dog back. four people who tried to separate the animals were also bitten. police say the owner took off with his pit bulls before the officers arrive on the scene. >> in my mind you would stay around to make sure the dog is

the break finally came when gallon was arrested for killing his younger brother last year. investigators say he gave them information that tied him to the jenner murders. new developments, a lead paint maker agreed to pay $60 million to remove toxic material from homes around california. the settlement with nl industries ends nearly two decades of litigation. the money will pay for the removal of several cities and counties including san francisco, santa clara, san mateo and alameda counties. nl industries does not acknowledge any wrongdoing. a former prime minister of israel is here in the bay area and he's drawing protesters. >> long live palestine. free, free palestine. >> abc 7 news was at the jewish community center in san francisco last night where protesters called attention to

tourists are returning to sonoma county. according to the press democrat a new survey finds this year's pliny the younger release brought $3.3 million in economic impact to the area. the survey by the sonoma county economic development board says more than 12,000 guests went to the russian river brewing company in downtown santa rosa during the two-week event. it's 5:40 now. a new study is shedding light for women with aggressive breast cancer. women treated with hercepton did just as well if they received it for six months as if they got it for a year. importantly when they received hercepton for half the time, it greatly reduced the side effect risk of heart damage. the owners of a building under construction in berkeley are taking steps to protect their project after a string of suspicious fires in the east bay. workers are spraying a special fire inhibitor on exposed wood framing. the owners say they're concerned
