friday morning commute, a vehicle fire blocking the two left lanes on westbound 580 before you get to keller avenue. not too far from the oakland zoo. sounds like that was fully engulfed, but making progress. chp saying all lanes should be back open in about five minutes. i did see a backup not too long ago. looks like that starting to thin out and the situation is improving. once again, a stackup at the left lanesf t bay bridg no metering lights yet. that should happen in about an hour. fremont police issued a warning after seeing a spike in a disturbing crime. >> police have seen a rash of gold chain robberies targeting women of east indian descent. >> reporter: on may 6th, this surveillance video shows a woman filling up her gas tank on fremont boulevard unaware of the man in the hooded jacket scoping her out. suddenly he lunges for her gold necklace.

she struggles with him, while on the ground she even loses a shoe. finally he gets her chain and takes off. >> we're starting to experience more violent behavior by our suspects. they're not giving up. so it's very alarming to see some of this. >> reporter: fremont police have seen a 50% jump in the number of gold chain snatchings this year, six this month alone. investigators believe this man may have committed two of the robberies, preying on mothers picking up their children. >> give a little insecurity to all of us, not only about the jewelry, but it's about dropping the kids in the morning. >> reporter: these are photos of that man robbing and wrestling a woman to the ground as she walked home with her child. >> we are not wearing much of gold these days. it's better not to wear it just to be safe. >> reporter: all the robberies took place in broad daylight and

target targeted east craig coley was convicted of killing his girlfriend and her 4-year-old son in simi valley in 1978. in 2016 police found dna evidence they thought had been destroyed. testing proved coley's innocence. brown pardoned him just before thanksgiving. police are looking into weather the murders are tied to the golden state killer. suspect joseph deangelo has been charged with 12 murders. oakland mayor libby schaaf will be in washington, d.c. this week the president said she should be investigated for obstructionf ju oice. > ts morning, geologists warning more eruptionsikely at the summit of kilauea voc.

ash has been showering. shot a plume of ash 30,000 feet above sea level. rocks as big as two feet wide are flying. luckily no one has been hurt. the air quality is now a major concern. authorities handed out about 2,000 masks to locals for protection from the ash. also overnight, i should tell you a 21st fissure opened up and some have reactivated with lava flowing into neighborhoods. i'll be watching for updates from our news dassing. that's the latest for now. the state assembly member accused of groping a woman who worked for her. christina garcia was cleared. other claims brought by staff members were verified, including the use of vulgar language and yous of staff for personal errands. garcia could face disciplinary actions for that. she took a voluntary leave in
