there have been explosives devices found in the high school and surrounding areas. >> i was scared for my life. nobody should go through this. nobody should be able to feel that in school. >> there have been two damn many of these. >> well that is for sure. it's happened yet again, ten people killed, ten others injured after another school shooting, this time in texas. good afternoon be, thanks for joining us i'm larry beil. >> i'm ama daetz. look at the suspect. 17-year-old dimitrios pagourtzis. police say he walked into the art class at santa fe high school in harris county, texas and opened fire killing nine students and one teacher. abc news reporter chauncy glover with the latest. >> reporter: fear and panic at santa fe high school. >> a shooting at the high school. i have an officer down shooter not in custody. >> the school going on lockdown after reports of shots fired on campus around 8:00 this morning. authorities arresting 17-year-old dimitrios pagourtzis now being held on capital murder

charges. students saying they first heard fire alarms then gunfire. >> everybody started running outside. and theks next thing you know everybody looks. and you hear boom. boom, boom. >> we need to do more than just pray for the victims and their families. >> parents waiting anxiously hoping to find their children. >> finally they were around the school and she is okay. >> but the threat of danger extends beyond the high school. >> there have been sploes devices found in the high school and surrounding areas adjacent to the high school. >> president trump addressing the shooting from the white house vowing to keep students safe. >> my administration is determined to do everything in our power to protect our students. >> we shouldn't be going through this at my school. this is my daily life. i shouldn't have to feel like that >> authorities saying that alleged shooter using a shotgun and a.38 revolver.

both guns police say belonged to the shooter's father. they say he owned them legally. this has been the fifth shooting since parkland, o high school. ? san jose, kaunsy glover, abc 7 news. according to cnn this is the 22nd schoolle shooting in 2018. the shootings range from mass casual i incidents like the parkland florida incidents where 17 students and adults were killed to the shooting a week ago today in palm dale in los angeles county where a 14-year-old boy brought a semiautomatic rifle to school and shot another student in the shoulder. according to the "washington post" 214,000 american children have experienced gunman violence at school since the columbine massacre in 1999. strong reaction from all corners of the country. sadly those who have been there before. >> abc 7 news anchor kristen sze has a look at responses to the tragedy. kristen. >> ama and layer.

houston rockets thinking of our neighbors in santa fe. a long time gun control advocate tweeted this message and commented during practice. >> this is scarey that that's become the norm here. and we got td something about it. because, yeah, i can't imagine something like that taking place with my kids. >> survivors of mass shootings are speaking up. parkland, florida, student jack koran empathized my heart is so heavier for the students of santa fe high school. it's all too familiar no one should have to experience. and former arizona congresswoman gabby giffords tweeted it's time for america to find the courage to take on the powerful and fight for our own safety. her message is echoed by california senator camilla harris who tweeted this is the 15th shallow shooting we believe the number is 22. but she says we haven't taken action in congress to address

the epidemic. but texas lieutenant governor dan patrick offers a different solution. >> we may have to look at the design of our schools forward. and retrofitting schools already built. what i mean by that is there are too many entrances and too many exits. >> he suggests that fewer entrances would allow guards to better protect schools. there is plenty of consensus on social media that this violence must end. but no consensus on how to do it. larry and ama. >> kristen, thank you so much. and a bay area student group called enough spf is holding a rally tonight for the victims of the santa fe school shooting. the group plans to gather at the civic center at 7:00 p.m. as part of the abc 7 take action campaign we have a list of local resources on school safety. you can find your ally and connect with local lawmakers going to abc 7 news.com/take action. a santa cruz county sheriffs department sheriff deputy after one of the people he detained

during a practice stop tried to run him over. the suspect was shot several times by another deputy. abc 7 news news reporter chris wynn with the update. >> reporter: north of santa cruz neighbors along ocean street extension are disturbed by some of the activity in their neighborhood. >> a habitation for prostitution, drug use, people bringing their garbage, dump it out of the trucks down there. >> around 3:30 this morning two santa cruz county sheriff's deputies on patrol encountered and a man and woman parked off to the side and moving items between two separate vehicles. deputies ran the plates and discovered one of the vehicles was reported as solen. the suspects were detained in separate patrol cars to determine who had driven the stolen vehicle >> while deputies interviewed the man was the woman slipped out of handcuffed and reached through a partially open window in the patrol car and open the door. the woman then entered the driver's side of the patrol car and without warning drove the vehicle directly at one of the

deputies striking him and damaging both patrol cars. >> the second deputy fired several rounds hitting the female suspect three times. cpr was administered on scene and he was air lifted to a trauma center where he she remains that the icu. the deputy is okay and neighbors are grateful for that. >> people like myself or people just in this area going out for a walk and stuff can't feel safe anymore. >> video of the incident kfrpted by the deputies body cameras will be released next we can by the sheriff's offers. the female suspect faces attempted murder charges. in santa cruz, chris wynn, abc 7 news. >> and this was santa cruz county's first officer involved shooting since the fall of 2016. >> announcer: now the accuweather forecasts with spencer christian. starting with live doppler 7 showing mainly sunny skies finally. the fog was slow to pull back to the coast luna today but finally skies main i bright. meanwhile over in the sierra another afternoon outbreak of thunderstorms and lightning strikes which is not an unusual

with more. >> reporter: this whale was wedged under the bridge behind me. it floated in sometime overnight. it stayed here until a commercial diving operation came in this afternoon and towed it away. >> this is my first time ever seeing something like that. >> sil visitor civilian and his dad decided this was a good day for fishing. when they arrived they were surprised by what they found. >> we came out to do a little fishing get here, see the dead whale. it's kind of sad when you think about it. but it's interesting at the same time. >> the whale, all 30 plus feet was wedged under a bridge near the jack london acquatic center. it's a body of water that flows into lake merit. while construction workers took pictures from above others came to the shoreline to see for themselves. >> we couldn't see it so we who said on our sailboat and came over and finally saw it.

>> reporter: the whale has visible bruising and an open wound on the side it's not clear if it's the same animal spotted on the bow of a ship entering san francisco bay earlier this woke. by mid-afternoon a commercial diving boat arrived, contracted with the marine mammal center to begin the process of removing the animal from the estuary. a lone diver wend in and tied ropes around the creature before it was towed away by the barge. >> it's amazing that an animal gets that ig. >> this come from minneapolis walked over from a nearby hotel. >> what made you want to look. >> i've never seen a whale this close. got to take the tune we you can. >> it's supersad and also kind of smelly. >> reporter: and there are people coming down to look at the whale. but as you can see it's clear here under this bridge at the estuary. again the marine mammal center is tell us that whale will be towed to angel island where a

study will be done in the coming days to determine the species, sex, age, and hopefully the cause of death. in oakland, laura anthony, abc 7 news. >> thank you. well some artists taking part in a mural festival in oakland have become the victim of thieves. the group had some batteries stolen overnight which is kept them from elevating the lifts. they can do go side to side but it's going to take them longer to finish the work than anticipated. one artist told us they will be weather through the we could. the festival is supposed to wrp up tomorrow process in jack london square. it may cost you even more to cross the golden gate bridge in the future. the toll will go up to $8 for non-fast track users starting in july. and according to the marin ij there could be more increases coming because of the budget deficit. yesterday officials predicted a 3.9 million deficit for the coming year. they expect a $72 million deficit in five years. and get this.

here is look at the royal wedding forecast tomorrow in windsor. sunny throughout the day. glorious day for a wedding. 9:00 in the morning as guests are arriving it will be 56 degrees on the fahrenheit school. as the service stars 67 degrees. 1:00 p.m. as the process begins. 68 degrees not a lot of change in temperature. once you get to the noon hour. even in the evening it remains sunny and mild. certainly mild by windsor standards. great guy are day for the royal wedding. we have a decent day in the bay area. looking at live doppler 7. low clouds and fog were a bit slow to pull become. but skies mainly clear right now except for lingering high clouds over inland areas and lots of fog near the coast. and thunderstorms in the central seara. looking at the golden gate bridge from the golden gate camera we see partly cloudy skies. and these are our forecast features. foggy overnight near the coast and bay. breezy and mild. relatively mild tomorrow and sunday. warlg up monday to more seasonal

levels. starting forecast animation, 7:00 in evening at that point we see fog responding along the coast lineup again. once again surges over the bay overnight and locally inland. early tomorrow morning we start with low clouds and fog. maid day to late afternoon mainly sunny. a bit breezy and pleasantly mild day tomorrow into saturday. the same pattern there. cooler breezier on sunday but not a lot of change from tomorrow to sunday. overnight we may see spotty drizzle especially near the coastline as those low clouds and fog contain a bit of moisture. you may need the windshield wipers if you are driving near the coastline or around the bay. during the late night and overnight hours. by afternoon tomorrow the fog pulse back to the coastline. parts of the coat line sunny. . other parts lingering fog and low clouds. high temperatures range from about 60 at the coast to mid-and upper 60s around the bay shoreline. inland communities tomorrow see highs the mid-to upper 70s. mild but not really very warm

lucy wants to know i would like to know how residents get credit on pg&e bill? mine went from $25 to $135. >> look this is a great question. and the answer is a bit complicated. but twice a year pg&e get a break on the bill called from the california climate credit. where does that money come from? well power plants are required in california to buy carbon pollution permits to fight climate change. customers ultimately foot the bill for that. but if the bill is less than planned on then customers get a rebate. that's what's going on here. they thought they were spending this amount. they didn't spend that much. toney asks when shopping for engagement ring what do i need to look out for aside from your wallet? >> yeah. hang onto dwror wallet like this. you said a diamond graded by either the gemlogical institute of america or another respected grading organization. the grade that diamond using the four cs you know this.
