it's saturday, may 19th. good morning. thanks for being with us. let's start with a first look at the forecast. hi, lisa. >> hey, chris. good morning to you. starting the weekend off with a little bit of sunshine out there. but it is cool. here is live doppler 7. you can see a lot of cloud cover around the south bay and the peninsula. that twist in the clouds, north of eureka, it's another area of low pressure that continues to be cooler than average for the afternoon. 55 in pleasant hill right now. we're looking at numbers in the upper 40s. santa rosa with 52 downtown and 50 on the coast. so the plan for the fog will be to hug the shore line from san mateo south. we'll see clearing elsewhere and temperatures once again on the mild to cool side by noon time.

mid 60s around the bay and inland. 50s at the coast and by the afternoon, we're in the 70s inland with upper 60s around the bay. those cool 50s at our beaches. chris. >> lisa, thanks. it has been an incredible morning across the pond. millions around the world watched the wedding of prince harry and meghan markle. the ceremony itself was historic featuring celebrities, a gospel choir and a preacher from chicago. maggie, good morning to you. >> chris, good morning. you said what a day it's been. what a day, what a week, month leading up to this. the anticipation has been crazy and they knocked it out of the park. authorities say more than 100,000 people were in town today here in windsor. you can see some of them leaving now. it's kind of been a contact stream of colorful clothing, over the top hats. but it's been so fun to be here. we were here with the cloud earlier watching some of the ceremony. and when the couple said i do, a hush fell over the crowd.

good morning, everyone. time right now is 8:09. we're taking a look at the city of windsor this morning. the sun was out. a perfect day for a royal wedding. hundreds of thousands of people crowded the procession route to try and catch a glimpse of the royal newlyweds. brandie was there. it looked beautiful on television, but what was it like to be there in person? >> hi there, chris. good morning to you.

beautiful, exciting, electric. so much fun. there's so many words to describe what it was like being in that crowd. here live right now outside windsor castle, that celebration is continuing. they just wrapped up the queen's lurch. she hosted a lunch for the 600 guests. tonight, more celebrating to do. there is a private dinner. this is where we were during the ceremony. what a feeling to be amongst more tha 100,000 people, brits, americans, people from around the world all here celebrate prince harry, and meghan, now the douche and duchess of sussex. everything was just meeting and greeting each other, giving high-fives, listening to the actual ceremony.

when they exchanged their vows, the crowd was silent. they just wanted to hear that. then, of course, it turned more into this. when they came out, did the kiss and took the carriage ride through. watching the ceremony unfold gave me goose bumps several time, especially when megan arrived in that car and took the route up that long road. she, of course swb is making history now, an american marrying into the royal family, of mixed race, as will say watching the ceremony and the american influence, the bishop delivering his message. reporting live here in front of the castle, brandie hitt, abs 7 news. several vigils are planned today and tomorrow in response to the mass shooting at a texas high school. nine students and a teacher were killed at santa fe high school.

the gunman told police he spared people he liked so they could tell his story. absence news reporter natalie brunell has the latest from texas. >> class had just started at santa fe high school around 7:45 when suddenly the fire alarm sounded, then gunshots rang out. >> if you hear boom, boom, boom, and i just ran as fast as i could. >> he shot one of my other friends in the head and i fell down. >> police rushed to the scene. >> shooting is in what room? >> students running for their lives, worried parents waiting for their children. >> she said, mom, there's shots. i immediately said i'm coming, i'm coming. i stayed on the phone with her the whole time. >> when the gunfire ended, ten people, most of them students, were dead. ten others wounded. authorities identifying the shooter at 17-year-old dimitrios

pagourtiz. the junior varsity football player now facing capital murder. investigators found explosives inside the school and in the suspect's car. the guns used, a shotgun and a .38 revolver legally owned by the suspect's father. the teenager posting this photo on facebook three weeks ago, a shirt with the words "born to kill." investigators still unsure of what drove the teen to open fire on his classmates. >> his slate is pretty clean. and so there simply were not the same type of warning signs that we've seen in some of the other shootings. >> sadly, an all too familiar scene playing out at schools across the country. there have been three public vigils held in the communities here to honor the victims and an outpouring of support from around the world. but also, a sense of defiance. people, emotional and fed up saying enough is enough. something has to be done about the school shootings in america. natalie brunell, absence news, santa fe, texas.

just a month ago, students at santa fe high school walked out of class to stand up against gun violence after the high school shooting in parkland, florida. this is the 22nd shooting so far this year. last night, students around the bay gathered in san francisco to mourn and call for change. >> no more silence! >> end gun violence! >> a small rally on the steps of city hall, but with a large, loud message. >> what do we want? >> change. >> when do we want it? >> now. >> bay area student activists demanding change after yet another high school shooting. >> we are heart broken, but we are not shocked. >> students say school shootings have sadly become the new norm yapal. jake cohen from mill valley admits he's fearful at school. >> i have to use my fear to empower myself. >> many of these students traveled to sacramento last month to rally support from lawmakers about passing sensible

warned about another ash cloud after the eruption just before midnight. abc news reporter marci gonzales has the latest. >> this is one of the latest fissures to open. it is incredible to see this massive fountain of lava, seeing the earth underneath to pulsate and these big mounds are being built up, these giant mounds. and now this river of lava is flowing from it very quickly. the same thing from some of the other fissures. it's closed off a roadway and blocked off access to where about 40 homes are. because of that, several people had to be evacuated overnight by air and the national guard is warning even more evacuations could be ordered because the concern isn't just with new fissures opening. it's some of the older ones that had stopped flowing. they've now opened up again and that's pose ago threat. and the major concern continues to be with the air quality. we're safe. we have our masks ready. but right now, we're in a fortunate position because the

winds are carrying those fumes in the other direction. but that's something that officials are keeping a very close eye on, making sure that if the winds shift towards a populated area, they're able to order possibly even more evacuations. marcy gonzalez, absence news, hawaii. back here at home, county fair season is now under way in the bay area. the 82nd annual contra costa fair opened yesterday and runs through sunday. this year's event has something for everybody. rides, food, entertainment and they say be sure to check out the livestock. 4-h kids work all year around getting their animals ready for the show. the fair opens today and tomorrow. >> now your accuweather forecast. >> we have some hot, sticky weather maybe. not this week, in fact. we're going to stay pretty cool. a good reason for that. live doppler 7 shows the fog. we are getting sunshine but we're seeing a series of loech systems visit the northwest coast.

down grant avenue because of those huge crowds. a group of bay area and middle school students are doing some heavy lifting, at least when it comes to technology. they're building complex robots capable of picking up objects and moving them with presis. the students in san francisco even write the computer code that controls their machine. still, they say a lot comes down to trial and error. >> we spent a lot of time on, like, planning. we didn't really get a lot of time to build, so this is like -- we only got like three months to build. >> yeah. it wats a fun process, but we hd to take it down a couple of times. how come? it didn't work. >> this is part of the middle school s.t.e.m. program of science, technology, engineering and math. some friendsly faces will be greeting passengers at oakland international airport, but their job will be serious business. the tsa is employing new passengers screening dogs as part of its security operations. the dogs are especially trained

some american flare. about 20 diverse londoners performed the elastic "stand by me" and a 19-year-old cellist performed. they're calling him cello bay. then it ended with that kiss between the couple. the crowd here loved it, erupted when they saw the kiss. and a 25-minute carriage ride through town. the entire day was truly a fairytale. that's what it felt like here on the grounds. >> maggie, can you tell us more about the design of meghan's wedding dress. >> you saw that beautiful dress, boat neck style, pure white. it was made of double bonded silk. that veil she's wearing, so gorgeous, as well. there's meaning to it. the floral detail represents all 53 countries of the commonwealth. you asked about the designer.

for the license and a officiatant like kevin clark. he is not the arch bishop of canterbury. every bride we saw here did feel like a princess. abc 7 news. this morning, kensington palace tweeted a picture of the royal wedding cake that will be served at the reception. it was made by marin county native claire ptak. it includes 44 pounds of butter and sugar and 50 bottles of elderflower cordial. the confection will have a heavenly taste and will be presented in a nontraditional way. the wedding bells will chime for harry and meghan at san francisco's grace cathedral. the cathedral is ringing its bells because of the episcopal church's long ties to the united kingdom. historic grace cathedral is located at top knob hill.

did you have to walk to get to the ceremony? >> oh, it was quite a walk. in fact, we were concerned because we found a hotel room like, about six miles away and we thought we were going to have to walk the whole way. we actually tried uber and we lost two drivers. they couldn't find us. we finally found two women who picked us up and drove me and my producer at least within about half a mile of where we needed to be. so problem solved. i'm telling you, the crowd was amazing. we expect add huge crowd. they certainly showed up. but they were absolutely respectful. it was a very hot day today. we were concerned about the cold, perhaps rain. it was just the opposite. a stunningly beautiful blue sky today. and the crowd listened because most of them couldn't actually watch the ceremony. there were loud speakers. they listened and it turned out to be quite emotional just to hear the words of it. i saw people tearing up and crying. one woman told me that she cries at weddings.

but she also loved the fact that she felt meghan markle and prince harry marrying were bringing people together. that was a common theme for a lot of people we talked to today. aftr standing there for six to eight hours in that hot they findly got to see that carriage right go by them. but that's the moment that they will never forget. that's what people take home with them. and that makes it all worth i even asked some folks, was it worth it to stand in this hot sun when your feet are aching, your legs are aching, you have nowhere to sit. there's not a lot of water to be had. they all said it was absolutely worth it and they will do it again. a lot of folks from california came here to experience this because they felt a special connection to meghan markel. it was -- had to do with maybe ethnicity, she grew up in southern california. they wanted to belong to this

the fog has beginning to erode or has ee roroded from the nort bay. marine layer disrupted a bit. even that earlier sun isn't going to do much to warm us up throughout the weekend. we're starting out with partly cloudy skies this morning. even in your neighborhood, i'm sure they've been breezy, as well. finally, we're looking at the mild days for next week. i didn't say cool and i didn't see hot. we have something for everyone out there. that will be with us, the breeze. you can see how breezy it is. over 20 miles per hour westerly winds at the coast. but in the upper elevations, clocking winds of over 40 miles per hour over here from the east bay hills. so live doppler 7 showing you that the low cloud deck is still with most of us. as we look at the bigger picture, a twist in the atmosphere here shows an area of low pressure that continues to allow that strong on-shore push. the return of a low clouds and fog throughout the evening hours. the morning hours.

and in between we've got some sun. but it certainly has been breezy out there. here is our explore taurus camera where it looks quite nice in san francisco. mountain view, 56. san jose and gilroy on the coast, 54. you're not going to see a whole lot of sun there. emeryville, hazy out. if you're spending time around the bay, you need a jacket. we'll look at temperatures today in the 60s. 50 santa rosa. 57 in nevado as well as speaking of the winds, notice the colors along the coast here. over 20 miles per hour. we're at 9:00. as we go through the afternoon, continue to see the winds gusty here. 10 to 15 miles per hour around the bay. and right through the evening hours, things get even breezier as that fog moves back in throughout the early evening hours. this will be fairley similar again tomorrow. gustier, i think, by later in the day.

upper 50s, short line half moon bay. it will be cool ocean water temperature. only 53 degrees. in the south bay, 71 in san jose. upper 60s by sunnyville. notice the fog here clinging to the san mateo coast. redwood city, 61. downtown. in the north bay, 70 for you in petaluma. you're probably getting used to this with the mid 60s in the breeze and oakland. 67 in fremont and we head inland, numbers in the low to mid 70s with a little bit more sun. this morning, you could be slightly warmer this afternoon in concord and then tonight the fog comes back and we have fairley uniform numbers in the low to mid 50s. maybe some drizzle at the coast. the accuweather seven-day forecast shows that we will enjoy the shine in the afternoon, but the gray, the morning, the evening, and then in between perhaps slightly warmer come monday. cooler midweek. and then when we warm up the end of the week, it look like that
