their friends far away from us and the media. the new duke of sussex opened the door to his silver blue 1968 jaguar for his new bride, a scene straight out of the james bond movie. the new dutchess of sussex took our breath away for the second time today, stunning in a stella mccartney evening dress. the british designer saying, i'm so proud to have been chosen, and meghan's ring belonged to princess diana. she also put diana's favorite flowers, forget-me-nots, in her bouquet and this moment making her mom and all of us emotional. harry whispering to his breed. >> hi, harry, take you, meghan. >> to be my wife. >> to be my husband. >> till death us do part. >> till death to us part. >> reporter: after the ceremony little charlotte briefly stole the show, and that moment we have been waiting for all day and not once but twice --

because they could be blowing around as that wind is rather active. so early on tomorrow morning the wind on the coast. it will spread across the entire region throughout the day with gusts over 20 miles per hour by tomorrow evening once again. t will be a cooler finish to the weekend as well. those numbers in the full accuweather forecast when i see you in a few minutes. >> sounds good, drew. thank. a car crashed into a man driving a scooter in san francisco's north beach area. it happened at this intersection at bay and powell streets about 8:00 tonight. you see emergency crews on the scene caring for the driver who was wearing a helmet. we know the car's driver the stay at the crash site. redwood city firefighters knocked down a two-alarm fire this afternoon on middlefield road. no injuries were reported but the road had to be closed. it took about 45 minutes to get

(sound of engine starting) ♪ ♪ schools in santa fe, texas will be closed through tuesday as the community mourns ten people killed in a school shooting. we know the names of those who died. the community is honoring two teachers along with eight students killed in the rampage. one of the victims was an exchange student from pakistan. 13 others are still recovering from their injuries including a school police officer. the alleged shooter, 17-year-old dimitrios pagourtzsis, is charged with capital murder. lawyers say his family had no idea what he was planning. >> they didn't know. they didn't expect and they surely couldn't have predicted. >> while authorities continue to investigate why this happened, there's been an out pouring of support for the grieving community. among them an offer from nfl player j.j. watt of the houston texans to pay for all of the funerals set to begin in coming

days. thank you, twitter. that's one one san francisco man is saying tonight after a stranger on the social media platform connected him to a surgeon who in turn saved his mother's life. >> "abc 7 news" reporter lisa amin gulezian has the story. >> reporter: dear everyone who works at twitter, you saved my mom's life this week. heartfelt words on the same platform shane used a year ago when he was in the hospital for something called thoracic outlet syndrome many one of his followers, a total stranger private messaged him. >> this person that had the same surgery that i had never met before. >> reporter: what are the odds that random person would lead him to dr. jason lee at stanford? dr. lee did not operate but gave shane good advice. this year shane's mother, tammy, started having leg pains. >> i went through the whole gamut of test. i got the ultrasound on my legs. i got the ultrasound on my heart. i got the ultrasound on my carotid arteries and went through a stress test. >> reporter: she was diagnosed

with peripheral arterial disease. her swollen legs stopped her from walking. in severe cases amputation is required. shane called dr. lee. >> he was like, they should not do that surgery. this is solveable. i can solve it. we should do this now. >> reporter: this was tammy on tuesday, right before surgery, and this was tammy the very next day, hours after discharge. >> i walked 1.5 miles, which before i couldn't even wa walk .2 miles without my legs swelling up. >> reporter: dr. lee used stints during the outpatient procedure and today tammy walked a mile and got a pedicure. her son, meantime, took to twitter to give thanks. >> twitter saved my mom's life. >> reporter: he has gotten several messages, all from strangers with similar health issues, all asking for support, advice and, yes, referrals to dr. lee. lisa amin gulezian, "abc 7 news." innovators, experimenters and tech enthusiast crafters are

"abc 7 news" watt at the festival for invention and creativity, showcasing makers who explore new forms of technology. one is glow forge, a seattle-based company known for 3d laser printers. visitors get a hans to make their own creation, in a variety of different materials at the push of a button. >> all sorts of different products and prices here. we are creating anything from wallets to maps to custom-engraved chocolate, and all around we see people using hands and tools to create millions of different creative crafts. >> reporter: it runs through 6:00 p.m. tomorrow. dozens of bay area citizens came out today to thank a police officer and see exactly what they do. "abc 7 news" was in san bruno at the shops at tanforan for the 36th annual police day celebration. the mall partners with the

police to highlight the service to the public. one of those is bringing out the canine units from bomb-sniffing dogs to narcotics detectors. >> that's probably the most popular event of police day, but there's a lot of cool vintage vehicles, a lot of information on what we do, and it is just a great way for police to interact with the public in kind of a low-key, relaxed atmosphere. 20 bay area law enforcement agencies participated in today's event. another bay area pet lover falls victim to the huge puppy scam, but now a happy ending to her story. >> oh, i'm so grateful. it is wonderful that they can do that. >> tomorrow night at 11:00, 7 on your side shows you what is different with this victim and how it could mean good news for the rest of us. getting to our weather now, we had a hold-on-to-your hats kind of day, probably the same day tomorrow. >> but tomorrow we have bay to breakers. what can we look forward to? >> it will be one of the days

with a current temperature of 50 degrees. here is the call from twaukt accuweather. we have been stuck in a pattern where at night the cloud fills back in, will do so again over the next 12 hours. mainly overcast skies for a lot of us. could seacoastal drizzle as well tomorrow morning. watch the time stamp early tomorrow morning, 7:00 in the morning, a fair amount of cloud cover overhead. there's a chance of drizzle isolated in spots. that cloud cover is going to take its time to retreat back to the coast. by 11:00 sunday morning, likely still some spots dealing with some patchy fog and cloud cover away from the coast. but by the afternoon we will see a fair amount of sunshine, but that wind still remains rather active. that's going to keep us on the cool side once again. so highs on your sunday in our microclimate starting with the south bay, san jose at 68 tomorrow. the average high should be in the mid if not upper 70s, so certainly cool for may standards.

wedding fit for royalty. the world watched meghan markle and before tie the knot. the royal couple are spending their first night as a married couple in windsor castle after a party for 200 people at nearby frogmorehouse tonight. no immediate plans for a honeymoon. a san francisco man is thanking twitter after a stranger on the social media platform connected him to a surgeon that saved his mother's life. dr. lee didn't operate on shane, but when his mom had leg pain he carried out life-saving surgery. >> less than nine hours to go for the start of the bay to breakers. organizers are prepping the race route tonight. the runners are ready. some 40,000 people registered for the 107th bay to bakers. the annual 12k race crosses san francisco from downtown, up the infamous hayes hills through golden gate park to finish line at ocean beach. the lava flow from the erupting kilauea volcano could

cross a highway. >> this is a sight to see. this comes as lava pours out of fissures, threatening dozens of homes. abc reporter marcy gonzalez on the big island. >> reporter: tonight lava closing in and destroying four more homes. >> it is incredible. a once-in-a-lifetime experience. >> reporter: the fast-moving lava flow covering a roadway, trapping several people on the other side, rescuers forced to go in by helicopter to pull them to safety. 22 fissures have opened here in the corner of hawaii's big island in the past two weeks. this is one of the latest fissures to open, and it is just incredible to see this massive fountain. the earth underneath just pulsating. >> reporter: some quieting down only to burst open yet again. >> reporter: and this is fissure number 17. it has been the most active, spraying lava like this now for almost a week. that hissing, roaring and the booms coming from this thing can be heard for miles. 25 miles away at the summit of

kilauea, yet another explosive eruption overnight like this one, spraying ash 7,000 feet into the air. >> i am thinking that this is the new norm. >> reporter: residents ready for the potential this volcanic emergency -- may not end for weeks. >> and they're bracing for the possibility of more evacuations as the lava spreads. officials are also monitoring the sulfur dioxide levels, concerned if the winds shift those toxic fumes could be carried to more populated areas. marcy gonzalez, "abc 7 news", hawaii. a wild cougar today killed one man and seriously injured another as the two were mountain biking through the woods in take koka, washington. police say the 31-year-old survivor called 911 around 11:00 this morning yelling for help. the call dropped but the man called back a short time later saying a cougar attacked him and his friend. officers located the surviving biker from a gps ping. they found the cougar standing over his dead friend's body.
