with people to evacuate. >> no, just get in. we don't have time for shoes. >> reporter: the signs from the video more telling than the visual. the footage serves as a lesson for those confronted with wildfires in the future. >> what's your plan? >> stand here with a whole. >> reporter: this clip shows police advising a cupel to leave their home in coffey park. >> you're putting people in danger. the fire is coming at us. >> it's huge. : we need to get you out of here. >> everything we've owned. >> reporter: nancy visited the empty lot where the home burned. she's looking for one of the cats who she believes survived the fire. nancy and her husband survived because they evacuated what they believe was minutes before the

fire started. >> reporter: knowing what she knows how she said she would have done a few things differently. >> our cats would have been first, the wedding albums and the family things. >> reporter: homeowners should ensure they have adequate fire insurance. and gutter covers, so there's no leaf debris. >> you can see more of the body cam footage on mercury news.com. the wind was an issue in the bay area. we heard of three trees coming down in the bay area today. this free blocked both lanes of vine hill way. crews quickly removed it. the wind had the abc 7 camera bouncing this afternoon. a great day for sailing but hold on to your hat if you're going outside. >> it feels like we've been talking about the wind for the

past several days now. >> how many more days will we be talking about it? let's check in with drew tuma. >> this windy pattern we've been under the past couple days is not going anywhere any time soon, unfortunately. the wind gusts were gusting some 20 to 30 miles per hour across the region, even higher in our hills. our hills saw wind gusts more than 50 miles per hour. those winds will ebb and flow over the next couple days. the winds are weakening now, generally about less than 20 miles per hour for the entire region. so tomorrow morning you won't notice too much of a breeze but as we go throughout the afternoon the winds will pick up once again. i would prepare for another day you're going to have the wind blowing around your trash can and perhaps your hair. i have a lot of people on social media saying it's been the worst weekend for everyone's hair. wind gusts across the region, 27

to 30, alt a mont pass, there's yourp high range. as we go throughout the afternoon we expect those winds once again to really pick up in intensity. we do have a couple days coming up where the winds will not be as bad and warmer air will move in. we'll detail that in the full forecast when i see you in a couple minutes. >> hair is important, drew. a palo alto pastor resigns after a series of unsavory tweets. the twitter account has been deleted but not before the tweets were brought to the attention of the counsel. lilian kim is in palo alto with the story. >> the tweets were distasteful, hateful and should not be reflective of our community. the mayor says the tweets from gregory stevens came as a shock to those at city hall. so much so they discussed them

at the city council meeting last week. >> as a parent you would not want your kids in that congregation. >> reporter: stephens' tweets took shots at old people, the police, and the city itself. the twitter fallout has led to his resignation. >> it may reflect badly on the church at least for the moment but it's not who we are. >> reporter: rick is the pastor at the church. he said stevens' frustration with the city is it leasing space. he said he may have had valid points. >> he could have made that critique in different language, maybe it would have been hospitable to some people. >> reporter: he declined to talk with abc 7 news but told people he plans to move to san

francisco. oakland residents conduct a barbecue dubbed "barbecuing while black." that was based on a white woman calling the police on black men using a she said using that type of grill in that spot is illegal. the bystander who filmed it said the woman was being racist. >> if there is any reason she feels uncomfortable with people having a good time, why not come over here and join the fun so next time she wouldn't have any reasons to call the cops, you know? we were here unified, just enjoying this beautiful sunday without being harassed. >> several local stores, bakeries and barbecue joints donated food for the event. thousands of bay area runners took part in the 107th bay to breakers this morning. >> the race across san francisco is known for its costumes and unusual participates.

>> the man sounded nice. >> she decided to bye a puppy named lizzie and wired the money. >> i was waiting for the dog. and i got an e-mail. >> it said she had to pay another $980 for shipping the dog to her home. this time the payment did not go through. >> they refused to deliver it. >> the seller told her to send the money by western union instead and not to tell the cashier why she was sending it. so she went to western union. >> they said, i don't think we do this. >> reporter: western union stopped the payment too and they got her money back again. >> these people are professional fraud sters. it's what they do every day. >> reporter: kim gardner tells us her company launched a program in january to block the faud against customers. >> if we feel for a moment that the transaction is part of a fraud scheme, we will place that

transaction on hold immediately. >> reporter: among its knewest efforts money gram compiles data on senders and and severs. in this case she had never used money gram before and suddenly two payments in a week. what's more the second payment went to an address in africa. >> we are more alerted to money leaving the country. >> western union did not discuss its security measures but said it has ramped up warnings to customers about scams. >> i had a bed for it. >> reporter: she said she realized the scope of the fraud when she heard our story about two families that lost money to the puppy scam. >> money gram says it returns

about $1 million every month to those who would be victims of fraud. ads are everywhere, use zel and do it fast. >> they often assume it comes with the same protections that you expect from your bank and that's not the case. >> tomorrow night at 11, michael finney investigates the risks of using zell. a busy thoroughfare north of sfo will be closed tomorrow for repair work because officials believe it can collapse. it will shut down tomorrow after the city found wooden and concrete columns supporting the road had deteriorated to the point of being unsafe. the busy road will close and detours will be in place starting tomorrow. a replacement bridge will be built but won't be open until the end of the year.

skies, a quiet night after a windy day earlier today. a live look from our emeryville camera. you can see the tower blinking in the distance, so the low cloud cover has yet to move back in. the camera not shaking that much. the winds that were breezy earlier today, look they have relaxed in a lot of spots. winds for the most part are light. you can see sfo, san francisco, that wind is gusting to 24 miles per hour. close to the coast overnight will be breeze ciy. temperature-wise we've fallen back into the 50s. 56 in concord, santa rosa, 53 degrees. here's the set up, live doppler 7, everybody wants to know why is it so windy? we have an area of low pressure

sitting over the border of california and nevada right now, that is bringing in the cooler air for the temperatures below average for this time of year. combine that with high pressure sitting off the coast, winds always travel from high to low pressure. this is not going to be changing the next 24 hours so the winds continue to be moving onshore off that cool ocean water that bring in the cool afternoon tomorrow. the next 12 hours, the clouds fill back in mid 40s to mid 50s are your starting temperatures. could have have a little bit of coastal drizzle. watch the time stamp 6:00 in the morning we're used to this pattern in the month of may right now where we have the morning gray sky, the clouds slowly retreat back to the coast throughout the morning hour. by midday, away from the coast you'll see a good amount of sunshine, however the winds will be picking up in the afternoon gusting 20 miles per hour.

in tonight's headlines we're getting a look at the terrifying moments from last year's north bay wildfires. we obtained body camera videos from santa rosa police officers as they went door to door trying to evacuate people. the video shows they had to plead with some residents reluctant to leave. runners seemed to behave during the 107th running of the bay to breakers race. there was plenty of color and costuming. san francisco police reported no major problems on the route. a palo alto pastor has resigned over tweets about the city. the pastor insulted the city calling it disgusting in a series of inflammatory tweets. the tweets have been the texas governor appeared

today. >> right before the funeral a rainbow in the sky. at least five vigils will be held in the coming days. the school and others in the city of santa fe will be closed monday and tuesday. here's abc7 news reporter elizabeth hur. >> reporter: with prayers and songs, the texas governor joined the santa fe community at a church service before stopping by the small-town high school to pay his respects to the victims and their families. >> we pray that god heal the hearts of the parents who have lost a child. >> reporter: two teachers and eight students were killed in the friday's deadly shooting and sunday afternoon a prayer service was held for 17-year-old sabika sheikh, an exchange student from pakistan. >> we are here today because we are united in a shared grief. >> reporter: the confessed shooter dimitrios pagourtzis according to eyewitnesses, entered from the back of the school armed with two guns and authorities say explosive devices, but none of those

devices worked. police say the guns used in the shooting belonged to the suspect's father. his attorneys maintain neither parent saw this coming. >> when the incident started, they were as worried about their kid as everybody else was. >> reporter: according to authorities, the motive remains under investigation, but sadie rodriguez believes her daughter shayna fischer was shot and killed because dimitrios had been pursuing shayna for months and her rejection made her a target. >> not even a week later, he just shoots everyone. you know? he shoots -- she was the first one. >> reporter: in response, the suspect's attorney called that pure speculation. whatever the motive, the governor says his hope is that the suspect gets swift texas justice. elizabeth hur, abc7 news, santa fe, texas. a man's body was found floating in a channel near the oakland coliseum this morning. police were called to baldwin street just before 9:30 someone in the area found the body in the water.

the individual had been deceased for some time. coroner's investigators recovered the victim. an autopsy will determine the cause of death and the identity. a town hall meeting to discuss the may 11th officer involved shooting in gilmore. officers detained 23-year-old maurice jones but said 21-year-old her shall hail ran away, got in a parked car, drove away and crashed into two police cars and that's where the shooting took place. police say no one was hit by the gun fire, hail drove off again before officers finally arrested him. the town hall begins at 6:00 p.m. at the hamilton recreational center on gary boulevard. new concerns with the kilauea volcano. it's erupted and throwing a haze
