commencement address at yale. and the new scoop on the royal wedding. the first dance, the tv ratings and what's next for harry and meghan. we do say good morning, everyone. i'm kendis gibson. >> i'm eva pilgrim in for diane macedo. we begin with president trump ordering the justice department to investigate whether the fbi infiltrated his presidential campaign for political purposes. >> the latest dispute in the battle over the russian interference in the 2016 election and now the justice department is responding. abc's kenneth moton with the details. good morning, kenneth. >> reporter: good morning, kendis and eva. it was mostly a rainy weekend in d.c., so the president was inside and on a twitter tear. several tweets aimed right at the fbi and doj about an alleged spy within his campaign for president. today president trump is expected to officially follow

through on his stunning order, tweeting, i hereby demand that the department of justice look into whether or not the fbi/doj infiltrated or surveilled the trump campaign for political purposes and if the request came from the obama administration. the presidential intervention threatened by trump last month on fox news. >> you look at the corruption at the top of the fbi, it's a disgrace. and our justice department, which i try and stay away from, but at some point i won't. >> reporter: the president is responding to reports from "the washington post" and "the new york times" that the fbi sent an informant to talk to several campaign and trump advisers. those aides were flagged for suspicious contact with russians but the reports did not say there was a doj spy inside the campaign. trump's fbi director declined to release any more details. >> the day that we can't protect human sources is the day the american people start becoming less safe. >> reporter: late sunday the justice department said it would investigate. deputy attorney general rod rosenstein released a

statement, if anyone did infiltrate or surveil participants in a presidential campaign for inappropriate purposes, we need to know about it and take appropriate action. a new headline from the president's personal attorney rudy giuliani who says special counsel robert mueller hopes to be done with the portion of the russia investigation involving the president by september 1st. that's if the president agrees to an interview but no comment or confirmation from mueller's team. eva and kendis. >> that would be wishful thinking from giuliani and the president's team, indeed. kenneth moton, thank you. president trump may be having doubts about the summit with north korea next month. "the new york times" reports he's been asking aides and allies whether to proceed with the summit. north korea last week declared it won't be giving up its nuclear weapons program. that reportedly has the president worried that the summit could turn into a political embarrassment for him. now, we turn to the school shooting in santa fe, texas. we are now hearing from a student who knew the suspected gunman who says he never thought

he could do something like this. >> well, overnight grieving students gathered at a service for the school's graduating seniors. the service was supposed to be held at the high school itself but that school, of course, remains closed today. emotions were also running high at the billboard music awards as the santa fe shooting once again ignited the debate over guns in america. texas native kelly clarkson emotional as she started the show with a call to action after the santa fe shooting. >> once again, y'all, we're grieving for more kids that died for just an absolute no reason at all. obviously want to pray for all the victims and we want to pray for their families but they also wanted me to do a moment of silence and i'm so sick of moment of silence, like it's not working. why don't we do a moment of action. why don't we do a moment of change. why don't we change what's happening. >> reporter: as the texas community mourn, the ten victims of the attack, we're learning more about the suspected shooter. investigators pouring through

his journal saying he carefully studied previous mass shootings allegedly incorporating aspects of those massacres into his own attack even wearing a trench coat, which was a hallmark of the gunmen at the columbine massacre. a fellow santa fe high school student says he knew the suspect and said he never seemed unusual at all. >> he seemed very calm and collected, and if you engaged in conversation with him, there would be nothing out of the ordinary. >> reporter: clayton george said he never imagined the kid he got to know during football season would carry out a mass shooting. >> never in my life would i have assumed it would be him. i didn't know what to think. i was just shocked and surprised. >> reporter: one of the victim's mothers says the suspect had made unwanted advances on her daughter and believes that is why her daughter was targeted. >> not even a week later he just shoots everyone. >> reporter: investigators this morning trying to piece together a motive for the attack. the lieutenant governor of texas weighed in on the debate over gun violence insisting guns are

not the problem. >> we have devalued life, whether it's through abortion, whether it's the breakup of families, through violent movies and particularly violent video games. >> and the governor of texas is calling for a statewide moment of silence at 10:00 a.m. central time today. he's also calling for swift and meaningful action to protect schools and says he'll start a roundtable discussion with students, parents and lawmakers tomorrow. we have now learned of the first major injury from the eruption of the volcano in hawaii. a man's leg was shattered by flying molten rock as he sat on his balcony. the steaming lava is growing even more dangerous thanks to the ocean. the rivers of molten rock entering the sea are creating a life-threatening condition. abc's marci gonzalez is there to explain. abc's marci gonzalez is there to explain. >> reporter: for the first time since this volcanic emergency began here on hawaii's big island, lava is now pouring into the pacific ocean in a couple of different places. if you look down there, you can see these massive plumes where the lava is going into the water

and then just behind me here another point of entry. one of the concerns with this is something called laze, this hazy plume that comes from the lava going in, and it can be incredibly toxic. there's hydrochloric acid and fine particles of glass in that and the concern is that those plumes could move onshore and because of that, they've now ordered even more evacuations. also additional evacuation orders in place because of concerns with the lava flow. some people had to be air-lifted out of their communities over the weekend. four more homes were destroyed by the lava flow, and geologists say they expect even more fissures to open up in the coming weeks. they're also keeping a close eye on the activity going on at the summit of the kilauea volcano saying they expect even more eruptions there potentially over the next couple of weeks. marci gonzalez, abc news on hawaii's big island. >> those tense moments do continue there. our thanks to marci.

turning now to the weather, more heavy rain is causing flooding and flight delays in florida. let's take a closer look at your forecast for this monday. >> good morning. dry for most throughout the northeast, however, look for stormy conditions to rumble throughout the ohio valley region south of detroit, throughout cincinnati, throughout the tennessee valley region and the south will be soaked. charlotte, atlanta, montgomery, jackson, mississippi, down towards new orleans and all of florida from tampa all the way down to the tip for miami with widespread thunderstorms likely there. we'll see some spotty storms throughout portions of nevada as well. watching out for flooding along the potomac. i'm accuweather meteorologist paul williams. coming up, new details about the mountain lion that attacked and killed a biker near seattle. but first the border patrol agent accused of detaining two americans after hearing them speak spanish. and why prince harry and meghan markle are delaying their honeymoon.

we're back with video of former president george h.w. bush returning to kennebunkport, maine. well-wishers lined the streets waving flags and cheering as he actually waved back. the 93-year-old was recently hospitalized for two weeks with a blood infection. he turns 94 early next month. a woman in montana claims she and her friend were detained for speaking spanish. she was at a convenience store near the canadian border when a border patrol agent asked to see her identification. that is when she says she started recording the incident with her phone. >> the reason i asked you for your i.d. is because i came in here and i saw that you guys are

speaking spanish, which is very unheard of up here. >> okay. >> the woman who was born in texas says she is considering a lawsuit. a spokesperson for the u.s. customs and border protection says the women were questioned not detained and says the agent used a poor choice of words. the agency is investigating. an urgent manhunt is under way for two murder suspects who escaped from a jail in south carolina. three inmates escaped from the facility saturday night. they did so after attacking a guard. one of them, christopher boltin, has now been captured. but tyshon johnson and curtis green are still on the run at this hour. the other inmates who possibly helped them escape are being questioned. starbucks now has a no purchase required policy. the company says people will be allowed to sit inside all starbucks even if they haven't bought anything unless they are considered a safety threat. the change follows last month's arrest of two black men in philadelphia. nonpaying customers are also also being allowed to use the bathroom. well, the tv ratings are in. more than 29 million americans

new tums chewy bites with gas relief we're back with this wild scene. just watch as it plays out. this is all over a dispute in a nail salon in jackson, tennessee. a worker claimed the customer failed to pay her bill and this is how she tried to get her to pay it. as the car drove away, the worker jumping onto the trunk hanging on as the car sped off. police eventually stopped that vehicle. they're now investigating the incident. >> goodness gracious. we turn now to that rare and deadly cougar attack near seattle. a mountain biker was killed. another injured. officials say the cougar was emaciated. >> it's the first fatal cougar attack on a human in washington state in, get this, 94 years. officials say the cougar weighed less than normal, which could explain the attack. the animal apparently faced the two bikers once and was scared off but later came back.

>> it launched on to him and latched on to his head. he said he had his whole entire head in the jaws of this animal and was being shaken around. >> wow. so that man, isaac sederbaum, survived. his fellow biker, s.j. brooks, was killed. the cougar was eventually found and euthanized. officials are working now to figure out if the animal had any medical issues. a north carolina man charged with murdering his daughter and daughter-in-law is due in court today. police say roger self slammed his jeep into this family as they sat inside a restaurant near charlotte. he apparently walked in with his relatives, left and then rammed the vehicle through the building. at least three other people were hurt. the family's pastor says self has a mental illness. breaking overnight the new york city police department is investigating the celebrity chef mario batali for sexual misconduct. some of the women making the allegations were featured in a bombshell report on "60 minutes."

one woman claims batali drugged and sexually assaulted her inside a room at a new york restaurant that workers referred to, quote here, as the rape room. workers even had a nickname for the chef. >> we called him the red menace. >> why? >> because it was a warning, the red menace is here. like pull all of your bits in, mario is in town. >> he came to party and have a good time and make passes at the female wait staff, make inappropriate comments, grab people. >> in a statement to cbs, batali vehemently denied the allegations. he was fired from abc's "the chew" in december when the allegations first surfaced. batali has also stepped away from the day-to-day operations of his restaurants. now to sports, the golden state warriors have set a new record for consecutive home wins in the nba playoffs. steph curry poured in 35 points last night as the defending champs destroyed the rockets.

mid 50s. here is alexis. how is it starting this morning? >> we have a crash in the countercommute direction 580, eastbound 580 once you get into the tracy area just before grant line road. a suspected dui driver caused this collision blocking the two right lanes. no backup yet. but they're working on clearing this. we've got typical delays on the westbound side. bay bridge toll plaza stacked up in the cash lanes. no metering lights yet. we should have about an hour until that happens. >> thank you, alexis. the texas high school that was the scene of the nation's latest shooting rampage will be closed today. >> eight students and two teachers killed in friday's shooting at santa fe high school. they were each honored during a baccalaureate ceremony last night. they were told healing would take time and the governor is calling for a moment of silence

at 8:00 a.m. our time. sources say the 17-year-old shooter, dim met yos pagourtzsis studied previous shootings and incorporated those into his attack. investigators do not expect to charge anyone else besides the alleged shooter. elected officials will join high school students against gun violence. this is the fourth try to try to ban the gun show. senate core scott sweener, daly city mayor and former state senator mark renault are expected to be at a news conference this center. it starts at 9:15 at the bayshore community center. crews on the lookout for more fallen branches because of the weekend wind. at least ten trees came down in san francisco. in martinez, this tree blocked
