what's happening. >> i never heard of that until this weekend. interesting stuff. good morning to you on this monday, may 21st. you're never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. hi, mike. >> high everybo everybody. let's take a look at the winds. a big issue yesterday. still breezy concord at 10. they will pick up a little bit over the bay and the ocean. small craft advisory coming our way once again. from sutro tower, it's not a solid deck of clouds. you'll need sunglasses in more places and quicker. starting off mainly in the low to mid 50s except for the north bay in the 40s. staying in the 50s at the coast. upper 60s with that extra sunshine. upper 60s to low 70s. the breezes will temper the sunshine by 4:00. in the low to mid 60s. we'll see what you need to get around the roads today. here is alexis with the details. >> we're still following a sig

alert in the san ramon area. this happens maybe as long ago as friday night, i should say, a couple days ago, 2 1/2 days ago at this point. we first started getting word about it at 8:00 last night. crow canyon at bolinger canyon totally closed. there's a river nearby and a dive team was dispatched last night. no telling how long this will be closed. obviously an investigation is going on right now. in the meantime, you do have alternates, some choices around this closure of crowian i don't know road. norris canyon, trying to go east or west. if you're trying to go north or south, you can stick to 680. that's looking just fine. everybody else looking pretty good, too. we have a stack up in the cash lanes of the bay bridge toll plaza. no metering lights just yet. next update in about ten minutes. this morning we're watching a new major threat in hawaii as the kilauea volcano continues to erupt.

it's called laze. lava is flowing into the ocean and you can see it's creating a toxic haze. this is new video from overnight. it shows us what happens when lava hilgts the sea water. the cloud of steam you see here rising from the ocean is laced with hydrochloric acid which can irritate the skin and eyes and also cause breathing problems. >> can eat a hole in a cotton t-shirt in a matter of a couple hours. it's really caustic. of course, you don't want to breathe this either. it can cause rest to be seizure. >> the haze is spreading 15 miles off the big island's southern coast. geologists say they expect more eruptions. so far kilauea burned 40 structures and 2,000 people remain evacuated from their homes. now to the latest in the shooting at santa fe high school. officials have identified all ten victims and 13 others were hurt. >> the school district will be closed through tomorrow. police say the guns belonged to

the suspect's father. facebook says it deleted a number of fake profiles created claiming to be the shooter as early as 20 minutes after police named the suspect. facebook has removed the suspect's real profile. senator greg abbott called for a moment of silence at 8:00 this morning. kelly clarkson took a different approach last night. governor abbott says this week he'll host roundtable discussions to look into curbing gun violence in texas. meanwhile a 16-year-old is recovering from major injuries after the car he was driving crashed in san jose yesterday morning. his 18-year-old passenger died. there happened on highway 101. chp says the car was involved in a different crash that left their car between the passing lane and the lane next to it. officers say another driver could not avoid the car and hit it. the 69-year-old driver was treated and released. chp says alcohol and drugs were not involved. in san francisco today, a

town hall meeting to talk about the may 11 officer-involved shooting in fillmore district. officers were investigating an auto burglary. police ended up detaining maurice jones. investigators say another suspect, her shall hale, got into a car and crashed into two police cars. that's where the shooting took place. police say no one was hit by the gunfire. hale drove off again before officers arrested him at civic center plaza. it's 5:05. w to the legal battle unfolding between apple and samsung. >> the question, how much does samsung owe apple for infringing on its patents. there could be a verdict as early as today. matt keller live for us in san jose. >> reporter: good morning, reggie. the numbers are huge in this case. samsung says it should only pay $28 million. apple wants $1 billion in penalties. this case is going on for a long time, all the way back to 2011.

the eight-person jury will continue deliberations today. apple wants penalties for the whole phone. apple won the case in 2012 but it was appealed. the supreme court ruled in 2016, the penalties can come from a component of the phone. the eight-person jury will decide if apple was entitled to all of samsung's products on the whole phone or just the components. no matter what happens with the jury's decision, the case will likely be appealed. matt keller, abc 7 news. >> thank you, matt. a man's body was found floating in a channel near the oakland coliseum. >> police called to baldwin street just before 9:30 yesterday morning. someone in the area found the body in the water. the individual had been deceased for some time. korcoroner investigators uncove the victim. peninsula red cross volunteers who have gone above

the train times once again. 41 b.a.r.t. trains in service. no delays there. normal service, no delays if you're taking capital corridor. a series of tweets led to a palo alto pastor resigning. the twitter account has been deleted but not before they were brought to the attention of the city council. abc 7's lillian kim has the story. >> the tweets were distasteful, they were hateful and really should not be reflective of our community. >> palo alto mayor says the tweets from gregory stephens of first baptist church came as a shock to those at city hall. >> i think as a parent you would not want your kids to be in that congregation singing or interacting with the associate pastor. >> his tweets took shots at old people, the police and mostly the city itself. palo alto is disgusting. the twitter fallout led to his resignation.

forecast. just coming into our news room, investigators calling an overnight fire suspicious. this is the scene. it happened in antioch at a nail salon on a street. by the time we got there, crews put the fire out. it wasn't very big. flames never made it inside. we did see an electrical panel pulled off, but fire officials are not confirming that's where it started. if we hear anything more on the suspicious fire, if we get anymore details, i'll let you know during our newscast. it's 5:14 right now. new developments in the future of the closed mcdonald's in san francisco. the city wants to build affordable housing for homeless youth on a laut on haight and stanion streets. the examiner reports there's push back from neighbors who had a hub for cultural events. mcdonald's closed in march after complaints about crime in and around the restaurant. people in oakland hosted a

huge barbecue dubbing it barbecuing while black. it's in response to last month's indent when a white woman was caught on a cell phone video calling on police on two black men for using a charcoal grill. she says using that type of grill is illegal. the woman who filmed it says the woman was targeting them because of race. >> if she feels uncomfortable, why not come over here so next time she won't have reasons to call the cops. we're just here and unified and enjoying this beautiful sunday without being harassed. >> several local stores and bakeries donated food for the event. happening today, president trump is expected to officially order the justice department to investigate whether the fbi infiltrated his presidential campaign. the president made the announcement in a tweet yesterday. the department of justice responding saying it has asked the inspector general to expand

its review into how the fbi conducted its counterintelligence investigation. as for special counsel robert mueller's investigation, rudy jewel ap any says the probe could be finish bid september 1st if the president agreed to an interview in july. in today's gma first look, new details about the two men attacked by a cougar in seattle over the weekend. one of the men did not survive. here is abc's geo benitez. a rare attack near seattle. a cougar killing one mountain biker and injuring another. the two were biking down a remote road when a male cougar began chasing them. >> at some point one of the victims swung their bike toward the animal as it approached. >> moments later it came back for the bikers and attacked. 31-year-old isaac cedar bomb survived the attack. he said the cougar let him go

clear. 48 in the deeper valleys. the day is going to be a little milder. still breezy, especially over the bay and near the ocean. even faster over the ocean than yesterday. clouds return tonight. a slight chance of drizzle and the extended. nothing steady. we're going seesaw the temperatures once again and keeping an eye on thursday, friday, saturday, for the potential right now. first the storms, very rare for us. you can can see already the sierra active this morning. it will get more active as the area of low pressure is scooping moisture off the ocean, depositing it in the high country in the form of possibly thunderstorms and even snow. back here at home, it means temperatures below average in san francisco, 61. even coor at the coast. places like daly city at 57. in the east bay, sunshine this afternoon and temperatures in the mid to upper 60s with oakland around 66 degrees. along the peninsula, 66 at san mateo, 58 in pacifica, breezy on

both sides of the peninsula. down in the south bay, how about low to mid 70s. santa cruz at 69. east bay valleys mid to upper 70s. some of our warmest weather in the north bay. 78 in santa rosa. coomer in places like san rafael at 72. let's take a look at my accuweather seven-day forecast. cooler tomorrow, rebound thursday and friday and we drop back a little bit saturday and sunday. i want to take you back to our sig alert. a few more details on this situation. just outside of san ramon, although i technically think it is in castro valley, unincorporated castro valley. crow canyon closed at bollinger canyon due to a fatal crash. they're saying they found a vehicle inside a pond last night around 8:00 p.m. at least one person was dead due to that crash. they don't know when the vehicle went into the pond or how it got there.

about 5:26 this morning. a busy road north of sfo closed this morning because of fears it could collapse. the san bruno canal bridge is surrounded by barricades. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live in south san francisco. good morning, amy. >> reporter: good morning, alexis. you can see where crews have just shut down this bridge. you can see police are blocking the area, steering people around it. i just got off the phone with a spokesperson for the city. this will impact people coming from the north from the san francisco direction trying to reach long-term parking. you'll have to use a detour. this also impacts people staying in hotels along airport boulevard. you also will be detoured on your way to the airport. locals, your costco is right here. so if you're coming from the south to costco, expect to be rerouted. here is why. engineers found wooden and concrete columns supporting the road have deteriorated.

they're worried the brej will collapse. this is the south airport bridge over the san bruno canal. it's at the north access road. the spokesperson told me they have been keeping an eye on it but say it went faster than expected. they do have a plan to build a newbridge that is going to take until the end of the year. live in south san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you, amy. we have dramatic new video to show you of the terrifying moments when santa rosa police evacuated houses during the north bay wildfires. our media partners at the bay area news group obtained nearly eight hours of body cam footage from police. it shows officers running door-to-door, begging residents to leave their homes. >> what's your plan? >> sir, please, we need to get you out of here. >> it's not worth it. >> please get in the car and leave. you have two officers here now.

>> ken and nancy survived because they eventually left this home in coffey park. nancy now visits the burned lot to search for one of her cats who she believes survived the fire. she says looking back she would have done things differently. >> my cats would have been first and then the family things. >> the couple plans to rebuild their home in coffey park. >> we're getting a better idea about the communication meltdown the north bay wildfires caused. a new survey of 2,000 people finds 87% lost cell phone service. 67% lost land line service and 73% had no internet. that meant a lot of people couldn't be notified as the fire was heading their way. the group conducting the survey says going forward, investing in a communicaon system that has backups needs to be a priority. it's a:34 now. the sks sks high school the scene of the latest shooting

to show you, the president has been tweeting about china saying this, china has agreed to buy massive amounts of additional farm and agricultural products. it would be one of the best things to happen to our farmers in many years and actually sending out a series of tweets about talking to china. weekend the countries announced china had agreed to, quote, significantly increase purchases of u.s. goods and services, althought's unclear exactly how much that increase will be. the u.s. is planneding to send a team to china to hamer out the details. san jose police are asking home owners in the willow glen neighborhood to look at any surveillance video you might have to see if you spot a man accused of prowling around homes. police arrested hector leanos on friday. they say surveillance video shows him looking into the bedroom window of one home and casing another. both happened earlier this month. police think leanos may be involved in other similar incidents and burglaries in the area. 5:37 now. california's june 5th primary is

bill. how about outside? red on your maps? >> we have heavy traffic getting out of tracy. not seeing anything unusual for that stretch, but down to nine miles an hour and 13 miles an hour as you approach the altamont pass. we had a crash eastbound but that cleared. typical voluming starting to fill in. if you want to use mass transit, ace one and three out on time. southbound 101 through the north bay, san rafael starting to fill in, too. no major problems. that north bay commute is still looking good. overall we are looking pretty decent for our drive times. richmond-san rafael bridge, westbound 580 six minutes. 13 westbound across san mateo bridge. nine-minute drive westbound 84 across the dumbarton bridge. the warriors rolled past the rockets in game three. now up two games to one in the western conference finals. >> oracle was rocking as the warriors won by 41 points, the

napa. let's take a look how prevalent it is. the napa airport is the reporting station. you can see it bleeds down into american canyon and valet hoe and towards cordelia. 37 and 29 and possibly 780 right there could have low visibility. watch out for that. here at sfo, so far no reports of delays. it's not quite as foggy here. my accuweather highlight, the first one is more sunshine today, milder temperatures, still breezy, i don't think quite as fast as yestday. drizzle possible the next few mornings, especially the closer you are to the coast and watching a warming trend in the middle part of the accuweather seven-day forecast. for today, let's watch the clouds melt back to the coast. you can see they're pretty stubborn through 4:00 and start to make their way back. they'll make their way back even in more dominating fashion. that's why the drizzle is possible. low to mid 70s down the south bay. 65 to 68 on the peninsula. upper 50s for most of the coast. low 60s in downtown and south san francisco.

72 in petaluma to santa rosa at 78. how about mid to upper 70s in our inland valleys. tonight we'll be in the low to mid 50s with more cloud cover. notice the drop in temperature because of that tuesday into wednesday. slightly warmer thursday, friday, saturday with a 20% chance of a thunderstorm. i want to take you back to our long-term sig alert here this morning. this is in the tri-valley just outside san ramon. a full closure of crow canyon road near bollinger canyon. this is due to a crash involving a vehicle that went into a pond. we have a crew on the way to the scene. the mystery here is we don't know when that vehicle went into the pond. it was discovered by someone around 8:00 last night. chp looked back through the logs for the entire weekend and did not see any calls about a crash in this area for the last several days. they don't know when it landed there. unfortunately one person is dead, at least one person on that scene. is a fatality investigation.
