ding. marshall tuck for state superintendent. marshall tuck. live where you live, this is abc 7 news. investigators are looking to the cause of a deadly crash, a tesla model s slams into a pond in castro valley, killing the driver. a bay area engineer and musician. i'm kristen sze. it's now in a tow yard, and matt keller is live at the chp office in castro valley, and, matt, they took precautions getting an electric vehicle out of the water. >> reporter: yes, they did, kristen. this was an unusual crash. first, the chp dealt with a crash that had no eyewitnesss. second, they had to deal with the electric car submerged in water. speeding cars are an issue on this stretch of crow canyon

road. one neighbor told us crashes are not uncommon. in fact, we almost witnessed one this morning in rush hour, but, today, a mystery. what led up to the blue tesla model s ending up with a monday off the road? >> the vehicle did travel a significant ways from the roadway, so it is believed that the vehicle could have gone airborne based on the damage to a sign located in the area. >> reporter: the sheriff's office identified the vehicle trim as 34-year-old keith leon, and the chp was notified by a nearby homeowner of a potential crash scene at 7:50 sunday night finding debris, but no car. the dive team was called in and spoke to electric professionals and decided it was safe to get in the water. >> never dealt with a submerge the electrical car like that before so we took precautions and made the proper phone calls to ensure we were okay that when we touched the car our divers were safe. >> reporter: investigators say

the seat belt was on when found, car pulled out, and towed away. he was not seen or heard from in 24 hours before the crash was first reported sunday night. trying to figure out when the crash happened. was it on saturday night? how fast was the car going when it launched into the pond, was auto pilot on? >> the driver did not stand a chance, in a way, on this, and it just is sad. really is. >> reporter: the chp is working on that timeline of the crash. looking for anybody who may have seen crash debris on the side of crow canyon road any time before first reported at 7:30 last night. reporting live, castro valley, abc 7 news. >> thank you. developing news from sfo now where a man plunged to his death this morning. here's new video we just got into the abc 7 news room. according to a spokesperson, the victim fell this morning from the level at terminal 3 down to

the baggage claim level. he was in his late 50s or 60s, and circumstances of the fall are under investigation. the coroner's office is responding to sfo. we'll have more on the story today on the abc 7 news app. san francisco police arrested a man involved in a domestic dispute who refused to come out of a building in the coal valley neighborhood. officers brought the man in cuffs to an balance at 7:30 this morning four hours after the standoff began. the suspect was taken to the hospital. injuries are unknown at this time. new details are emerging this morning on the texas school shooting. sources tell abc news the 17-year-old suspect looked at the tactics used in previous attacks. moon ti meantime today, the tight knit community honor victims with flags at half staff, church

services, and vigils. elizabeth herr is in texas. >> reporter: this morning, a moment of silence across texas to honor the two teachers and eight students killed in what is now been the ninth fatal school shooting this year. of the 13 others wounded, two of them are still recovering in the hospital. >> shooting. in the art room. we got -- we got shots fired right now, guys. >> rporter: according to the police, the 17-year-old stormed into an art class friday morning at santa fe high school and shot his class mates. trent told michael strahan he heard the suspect taunting victims. >> every time he killed someone, he said "another one bites the dust." >> reporter: the now confessed gunman may have studied previous mass shootings, allegedly using aspects of those attacks on

friday. investigators say he arrived armed with home made explosives, in a trench coach, a hallmark of the columbine massacre. >> shocked and surprised. >> reporter: students who knew him are in disbelief, and in a statement, the suspect's parents maintained they were equally shocked and confused. >> he never seemed angry at all. he always seemed calm and cool. >> reporter: the high school remains a crime scene until later this afternoon. district officials will announce plans for the week ahead. for now, the school will stay closed today and tomorrow. elizabeth herr, texas. another school mass shooting, bay area politicians made a new push to ban gun shows at the cal palos. amy hollyfield is live where the new build was unveiled this morning, amy? >> reporter: we are near the cal palace, and organizers say the

cal palace would not allow them to hold it there on their property, so we are here in a a nearby community center where lawmakers announced a bill that would ban the five gun shows they have there every year. >> it does not make sense to continue having these gun shows at the cal palace in the heart of our community. >> reporter: state lawmakers said it would take a state law to ban the gun shows at the cal palace, but they can't get it done because of its unique location. >> this little spit of land straddles these two counties, but is on state property, so if in either county, necessary measures have already been taken to ban it, not unlike morrin county ban gun shows on county owned property. >> reporter: state lawmakers will try to do it pointing to the student led protests outside the gun show in april as proof this is what the community here wants. organizers of the events say students are scared. >> afraid the campuses have

boulevard. they were investigating an auto b break-in, he was arrested, and a town hall meeting was held at the recreation center at 6:00. very important traffic information to pass along now. starting today, the san bruno canal bridge located south of airport boulevard, by sfo there, will be closed indefinitely. this will, of course, affect traffic near the airport. plan ahead if going that way. crews are replacing part of the bridge's foundation as it is deteriorating. work is expected to be done at the end of the year, and detours are provided. the june 5th primary is two weeks away in california. not registered , you have until

outlined demands for iran. he said any new iran deal requires the country to stop enriching all uranium and stop support for militant groups in the middle east. the speech comes more than a week after president trump withdrew the united states from the pact that several countries around the world negotiated with iran. that pact is meant to regulate the country's nuclear program. there was a small eruption at the kilauea volcano summit today producing an ash plume reaching 7,000 feet. authorities say the ash plume could affect surrounding areas. those nearby are asked to stay indoors with the windows closed, and another threat, molten rock from the volcano poured into the ocean creating a toxic steam cloud. the community welcomes the pope francis as a desire to make gays feel loved in the catholic church. the pope reportedly told a gay man that god made him that way and loves him as he is. this suggests he believes people
