tonight a rare look inside an ugly story only on abc 7 news. >> it's a dirty underworld that played out in the light of day in suburbs like pleasant hill and antioch. >> he's expected to be sentenced to life in prison this friday and today he spoke with laura anthony. >> i'm not a monster. >> reporter: prosecutors say he's perhaps the worst human sex trafficker in contra costa history. but 34-year-old deandre lewis tells a different story. >> i never forced anyone to do anything they didn't want to do. i never put a gun to someone's head and threatened them, you're going to sell your body or anything like that, nature. >> reporter: last month a jury convicted him of 37 felonies. he met one of the women in college when they were students.

deputy district attorney chad hollis prosecuted him. >> he was violent, abusive, used physical manipulation, psychological control and extreme violence, including raping and defiling multiple women. >> reporter: the jury heard a phone call he made from jail to a coconspirator ordering her to torture her for money he owed her. >> i want to hear screaming and all that. >> i hit her with a frying pan. >> i met him when i was 16 -- >> reporter: this woman does not want her face shown. she is lewis' ex-wife. while he never forced her to have sex with others prosecutors say she is very much his victim. >> he threatened my family, beat me on several occasions, held a gun to my head.

you know, my son witnessed some of it unfortunately. >> reporter: deandre lewis has spent the past four years here at the county jail. on friday he'll find out if he'll be sentenced to 150 more at state prison. >> i never made anyone do what they did not want to do. anybody that's been around me is because they chose to, they wanted to. >> he's a very, very twisted individual. i will say he's hopefully one of the worst we ever see but unfortunately there are many individuals that do this to women out there. an investigation is under way this afternoon after a man fell to his death inside one of the terminals at san francisco international airport. as abc 7 news reporter chris win explains, it happened at bag gaj claim. >> a devastating scene as passengers arrived at sfo.

>> chaotic, a lot of people were running around gawking at the situation. >> at baggage claim this was cord donned off after a man fell to his death. confusion among passengers before they realized what happened. >> people were yelling. >> these pictures show the scene just after the men fell. the coroner's office is looking at whether he suffered a medical emergency before going over the railing. vehicle traffic was impacted for nearly two hours as the san mateo sheriff's office conducted its investigation. officials would not confirm if he was a ticketed passenger or picking someone up from the airport. >> they got the paramedics there quick and tried to get him st b

stabiliz stabilized. there was a fair amount of blood in the area. >> reporter: foul play is not suspected. late this afternoon they identified the man as 53-year-old dale fin of san francisco and ruled the death a suicide. firefighters on the scene tonight of a fire in east oakland, sky map 7 showing where where the flames broke out at 90th and international boulevard the building is a boarded up commercial structure. it's not clear if anyone was inside or how the flames broke out. a push today for drivers to play higher bridge tolls in exchange for possibly time in less traffic. here at the bay bridge toll plaza which looks okay but that can change rapidly. and also going east could be bad. mayors from the largest bay area cities are urging their

constituents to vote yes on regional measure three. we're joined with the latest on the measure. carolyn. >> reporter: we all know how congested the bay area has become, how hard it is to get from here to there. regional measure 3 would raise billions which a trio of mayors believes could go a long way toward easing the pain. it was fitting that the bay bridge served as a background for the push by the bay area mayors for regional measure 3. motorists who cross that span and other bridges would see their tolls hiked by $3 over the next seven years, the money, nearly $4.5 billion would tackle the bay area traffic situation. >> we're tired of being delayed and kept away from our families wile stuck on roads.

>> it could increase ferry service, improving bus systems and replacing bart's aging fleet of trains. coordinators say it's coordinated regional approach to the traffic crisis. >> rm 3 is a game changer for the bay area. >> reporter: what can you expect in terms of upgrades to the bridges you'll be paying more to cross or the surround roadways? most of measure 3 doesn't go there and is instead spent on mass transit. that's one reason why this congressman said he's casting hs first no vote ever on a transportation project. >> if you want to raise the tolls on the bridges there should be a benefit to the toll payer and there isn't. >> reporter: a majority of voters in all areas combined must agree for it to pass. >> $9 across the bridge sounds ridiculous to me. >> i think it's going to help.

the ride on one of the bay area's busiest and bumpiest commutes is about to get smoother, you'll be glad to know. a $70 million repaving project is under way on 880. that is a rough patch if you ever drive it. in addition to repaving the freeways, the crews will improve off and on ramp and convert the carpool lane into a toll lane. >> it helps move the whole corridor faster. funds some bus and other improvements for transit riders. >> most of the work will take place overnight so not too much impact on the crowded morning and evening commute. it's paid for by the controversial gas tax bill paid last year. a former uber engineer filed a lawsuit against the company

claiming she was sexually harassed. she said uber's human resource department failed to act on repeated complaints of sexual advances. she said she was denied proemotions and raises in response to complaints. the case is the first test of the company's new policy relaxing forced arbitration for sex-related claims. a group of uc students rallied today calling on campus clinic to provide the abortion pills. they spoke out on services that would expand services on uc campuses. california's attorney general is hinting at a lawsuit against the trump administration over its plans to cut funding for abortion services. the state's insurance commission said the plan would eliminate

firefighters were quickly able to contain a brush fire in napa county this afternoon, the 12 acre fire broke out on canyon road before noon, by 2:45 firefighters contained the flames. the conditions are quite dry in the area no measure rabble rain has fallen in about a month. those bone dry conditions are fuelling concern about wildfires and residents are shaken after the devastating north bay fires last year. wain freedman has more on what's being done right now to prepare for the summer. >> reporter: boots on the ground in santa rosa identifying trouble spots before they happen. >> this is one of our problem sites. >> reporter: this was day one and lot one of inspecting fire prone areas and getting their owners to cut down the weeds.

it has been an active day. you notice some thunderstorms are wrapping around an area of low pressure between california and nevada. that is resulting in some of those thunderstorms dropping rain in nevada and moving towards the west there. so definitely keeping an eye on this, obviously the thunderstorms are accompanied by rain, which is a good thing because we don't want any fires starting here in the state. temperatures today in most areas came up, 13 degrees warmer in antioch this afternoon compared to 24 hours ago. up 8 degrees in mountain view, this isn't following the theme much of most of this month. i want to show you the calendar, san jose did fall short of average again today. you notice the shades of red are above average temperatures as highs are concerned. blue has been dominating here, which is below average temperatures for most of this month. that is going to change later this week. i want to show you right now p
