let's get an update with alexis. how is the commute? >> it took a while. we are ramping up here as far as the commute is concerned at this point. bay bridge metering lights on. later than average. sort of strange, no one wants to wait in the cash lanes for people to get their cash out and make change. carpool users are the only ones not seeing that delay. we do have a crash south bay northbound 87 before curtner. chp hasn't arrived at the scene. we have reports of debris, too. i'll follow up on that one coming up in just about 10 minutes. >> a live desk update. officer-involved shooting in hayward left a police officer injured. you see the crime scene from last night. there is still an investigation under way right now. nbc's reporter matt keller live in hayward. hi, matt. >> good morning, jessica. about 10 minutes ago the police department took down the crime

scene tape and left the scene. that will continue back at police headquarters. much of the focus on hewitt place was all the way back at the end of the block. this all happened around 7:00 last night on hewitt place next to coleman avenue. hayward police say an officer-involved shooting, fired at the suspect, taken to the hospital to be treated. the officer had nonlife threatening injury and also being treated at the hospital. no word how he was injured. they are looking how it unfolded. the important thing now, there's no more risk from the community. no one talking at the scene. we do expect more information later this morning. reporting live, matt keller, abc 7 news. thank you, matt. new developments surrounding right to die lie. the attorney general has filed an appeal to bring the law back. we told you last week he planned to appeal this, now it's official. a judge last week ruled end of life act

was signed illegally. that allows adults to get life ending drugs if the doctor determines they have six months or less to live. the appeal asked to overturn the ruling immediately while the issue gets sorted out in court. a rookie san francisco police officer could face charges after a shooting earlier this month. a department also released body camera footage of the incident. we learned these details at a town hall last night. take a look. officers were investigating a car burglary at steiner street and gary boulevard may 11th when a suspect got into a car and crashed into two police cars. that's when an officer fired on the vehicle. >> get in the car! >> no one was hit by that gunfire. the suspect drove off again before officers finally detained him at civic center plaza. san francisco police say per procedure the rookie officer who fired the shots should have had his body camera on at the time. it was not activated. that officer also violated the department's use of force policy

by firing at a moving vehicle. it's 6:03 now and we're hearing from a man attacked by police canine dog in castro valley. >> josh phillip pulled over yesterday morning for driving under the influence. cell phone video shot by his friend shows him in handcuffs. all of a you're going to see it. the canine officer jumps out of the squad car. >> hey, bro -- >> deputies say a button on the dog handler's vest was pressed by accident when the deputy was searching phillips car. phillips said he was unhappy hospital. >> i got a couple of drugs, couple of prescriptions, okay, be on your way and the sheriffs were gone. instead of taking me to infirmary room, they psych me out and leave me stranded in a city i'm unfamiliar with. >> phillips says the canine handler apologized to him but he would still like to see the canine euthanized and this incident put under

investigation. we have more information this morning about te firefight that happened inside santa fe high school. >> according to galveston county sheriff the gunman dimitrios pagourtzis was cornered within four minutes. he was in a room and police were in a hallway. officers responsible for taking down the gunman gave responding personnel time to evacuate students and get the suspect into custody. pagourtzis may have been bullied at that school. he killed 10 people and hurt 13 others. >> houston texans star jimmie johnson watt visited survivors and staff yesterday. watt announced he would pay for the funerals of all 10 victims. he has a history of giving back including raising $37 million for victims from hurricane harvey. remember this video of oakland mayor libby schaaf? she warned about i.c.e. raids coming to the bay area. it even got president trump's attention. >> now there is a new bill that calls for jail time if leaders of sanctuary cities warn people ahead of time.

hi and welcome back. here at our live desk i'm tracking the story. starbucks clarifying its policy that says anyone in its coffee shops can use the bathroom, not just customers. according to "wall street journal," the company now says drug use and sleeping will for the be allowed. those are still grounds for employees to kick people out. big clarification there. starbucks changed their bathroom policy after this stroh showing the arrest of two black men at a coffee shop in philadelphia last month. the men wanted to use the path room while waiting for a friend.

starbucks will close all of its locations next week so employees can undergo racial bias training. >> new at 6:00, a warning for parents about the new season of the controversial net flicks show " 13 reasons why." a watchdog group is urging netflix to pull both seasons of the show. the series is partially filmed here in the bay area mostly vallejo. conservative parents television council says the new season is harmful to children because it contains substance abuse, gun violence and sexual assault. the first season focused on the suicide of a student. netflix has not commented on concerns about the new season but they did address the controversy with season one by creating videos featuring actors adding context to the story. >> developing news out of hawaii now where there is rising concern about a geothermal plant in the cross-hairs of a volcano's eruption. a lake of lava is lapping up against the plant. 50,000 gallons of flammable liquid have been removed. crews were working through the night to try to cap the last of

all lanes reopened. take a look at what it looked like overnight. all lanes were blocked because of this huge crash. first responders had several injuries to deal with. chp tells me at least three people were transported to the hospital. one had to be airlifted out of here. six vehicles were involved. the call came in at 10:30 westbound highway 4 at hillcrest and antioch. the highway was blocked for hours. they got all lanes reopened at 1:30 this morning. investigators haven't said what happened. they are still trying to figure it all out. at this point no arrests have been made. reporting live in antioch, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thank you. 6:32. the man called one of the most violent and prolific sex traffickers in the history of contra costa county is expected to be sentenced to life in prison this friday. before that happens, though, he is speaking to abc 7 news. a jury convicted diondre lewis of 37 felonies involving at least seven women.

a final decision would take several weeks. happening today south korean president moon jae-in will be meeting with president trump in washington to prepare with the u.s. summit with north korea. they are expected to discuss security measures and economic incentives. keeping the meeting all together may be the bigger challenge. last week north korean leader kim jong-un threatened to pull out of the plan for the summit next month. "new york times" said president trump consulted aides about whether to take the risk and the proceed with the meeting. now to that meeting between the president and top justice officials running the russia investigation. deputy attorney general and fbi director now accepted mr. trump's demands for an investigation into the investigation. so here is what the president wants to know. did investigators infiltrate or surveil trump campaign for political purposes and were such requests made by people in the obama administration. >> really this is designed to underm unveigation,

distract from the president's growing legal troubles. >> the president's demand comes in response to "new york times" report. it claims in late 2016 the fbi used an informant to question trump campaign associates about their contacts with russians. there's no evidence the fbi infiltrated the trump campaign. the deputy attorney general ordered the justice department to investigate the president's concerns in response to the president's tweet. a push to pay higher bridge tolls in exchange for the promise of less time in traffic. mayors from san francisco, oakland, san jose are urging voters to say yes to regional measure 3 on june 5th. that would hike tolls tolls on all bridges except golden gate by $3. the funds would be spent on increasing ferry service, improving bus systems and replacing b.a.r.t. trains. supporters say this will encourage people to take public transportation, and therefore could ease traffic congestion. opponents say the money should be spent on improvements to directly help toll payers. you are in luck if

more information how that officer is doing. hi, matt. >> hi, jessica. yes, about an hour ago police broke down crime scene tape and left the scene here. we're told this all happened at the end of the block here. it happened around 7:00 last night. this is hewitt place next to coleman avenue. this was an officer-involved shooting. an officer fired their gun at a suspect. that person taken to the hospital can be treated. the officer had nonlife threatening injuries treated at the hospital. no word how that officer was injured. investigators saying they are looking how this incident unfolded. they say the important thing, no more risk to the community. no one from the hayward police department is talking from the scene here. we expect more information later this morning. neighbors told us it was a huge scene with officers rushing to the scene after those shots were fired. reporting live in hayward, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> thank you, matt. the man who died when his tesla model s went through a fence and
