afternoon hours, temperatures warmer with a little more sunshine, still cooler than average. 55 at the coast at noon. mid to upper 60s at 4:00. all of us to upper 50s to low 60s by 7 clog. let's talk about the slick commute. >> several spinout crashes here this morning mike already. probably will continue as we have these conditions this morning. i want to take you back up to the richmond area. i don't believe this was a spinout crash, but it involved the box truck that hit some barrels that were off on the shoulder. for a brief time we had the right lane blocked. this is west 80 in the richmond stretch just before cutting boulevard. chp says all lanes are back open so they have this contained to the right shoulder. hopefully that delay will thin out quickly. a quick check of the bay bridge toll plaza. no metering lights yet. that should happen around 5:20, 5:25. a purse snatcher who targets elderly women is on the run.

one of his recent victims, a 93-year-old woman is still in the hospital. >> police are hoping you can identify this person. abc 7 news report are amy hollyfield is live in concord this morning. >> reporter: good morning, reggie. concord police have a very clear picture of who they think did this. take a look. if you know this man, if you recognize him, concord police would like to hear from you. the police officers think this is the man who stole the purses of two women, ages 93 and 64. they believe he got away in a white car, possibly a chevy malibu. officers say he has a tattoo on his right forearm. this happened at the bank of america in sun valley mall in concord just after 4:00 on friday. officers say the 93-year-old woman was knocked to the ground. she was hurt. is still in the hospital. >> live in concord, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thank you. 5:02.

a pittsburg man faces charges with a series of gold chain snatchings in fremont. this footage led to his arrest. you can see the man violently grabbing a woman's gold chain from her neck. the robber targeted women of east indian descent. officers arrested jermaine smith who currently faces one count of robbery. they say he has a criminal history including a previous robbery charge. a judge expected to decide where the domestic violence case against ruben faster will proceed to trial. last thursday his ex-alyssa ennis admitted to making the entire story up. she accused him of punching and dragging her by her hair because she wanted to get back at him for breaking up with her. we'll update you as soon as we hear a decision. this morning we're hearing from passengers after a plane clipped the wing of another

plane in southern california late last night. a delta plane was being taxied into the gate at hollywood burbank airport when it clipped wings with an empty united plane. no one was hurt, but passengers definitely felt it. >> we're on a delta plane. i guess they hit the continental plane and told us it was parked out too far. felt like we hit a body. >> did we actually hit somebody? the guy sitting right by the wing and said, no, we hit that plane, knocked its wing off. i thought, oh, no, we're going to be here forever. >> the incident is being called minor. it's under investigation right now. >> thank you, jessica. 5:04 now. happening today, catering workers with united airlines will rally at seven airports including sfoe. organizers want to unionize,

protesting low wages against unjust filings and suspensions. the airlines issued a statement saying united airlines respects our employees' rights to decide whether they want to be represented by a union without pressure, coercion or misconduct. we believe the union's allegations are baseless and we look forward to hearing the results of the national mediation board's investigation. meanwhile tesla ceo elon musk says workers could vote to union nice there. he tweeted, nothing stopping tesla team at our car plant from voting union. could do so tomorrow if they wanted. but why pay union dues and give up stock options for nothing. last october tesla fired hundreds of employees prompting the uaw to file a complaint with the national labor relations board, including allegations that workers that passed out union information or wore clothes supporting unions were threatened. a hearing is scheduled for june 11th. we know rock climbing is a high risk sport.

it gets more dangerous when the weather doesn't cooperate. a man fell to his death during the storm. you can see what the weather looked like on yosemite when this happened on monday. his body was recovered yesterday. abc 7 reporter katie marzullo has more. >> reporter: he first climbed half dome in 197. he says the weather can change quickly in yosemite and the weather can be the difference between life and death. >> if a storm comes in, you don't go for it because the higher you get exposed, the more you'll get lightning strikes. >> reporter: the national park service said a hiker who was with another person fell to his death during a thunderstorm monday afternoon. he fell from the cables on half dome. >> the reason there's cables there in the first place is because it is too steep for most people to climb up or hike up or scramble up. >> reporter: hans has climbed half dome 20 times. he talked with us from the hospital where he just had surgery to repair two broken

p>> kind of a busy start on the roads. we don't have major backups yet, but we've had several crashes. i think the road conditions have a lot to do with that. looking at concord northbound 242 off-ramp to grant street. yet another solo vehicle crash. that seems to be the trend here this morning. that person went off the roadway onto that off-ramp there. quite a bit of debris involved here as well. it sounds like that guard rail was taken out so they're having to do repairs there. also trying to clean up a crash where a vehicle went across all lanes and ended up facing the wrong way, southbound 680 before washington boulevard. emergency crews are on the scene. here is a live look outside. next traffic update coming up around 5:20. the numbers are in and b.a.r.t. says it's getting safer. >> it says so far this year it's seen a 9% drop in overall violent crime compared to last year. robberies alone dropped 16%. property crimes including auto theft down 2%. however, aggravated assault

being on welfare and threatened to call i.c.e. this morning we're getting a closer look at what happened when a woman hit a santa cruz county sheriff's deputy with a patrol car. it ended with the suspect getting shot three times. >> yesterday the sheriff's office released this body camera video. the sheriff said it began with a routine stop on ocean street extension friday. the deputies detained two people near a stolen vehicle. one of the suspects, 24-year-old jessica lowe escaped and got into the driver's seat of a patrol car. >> the people were be detained in handcuffs in the back of patrol cars. at that point the deputies were doing their investigation about the stolen car. so this shows you in law enforcement how quickly things turn chaotic. >> investigators say lowe charged at one deputy and that's when the deputy's partner opened

fire. this morning she's still in the hospital and the injured deputy is out on medical leave. comcast is investigating a security flaw that exposed customer passwords on the web. comcast says it shut down the service in question within hours of learning about the issue. the company says it has no reason to believe that any account information was actually accessed. privacy activists want amazon to stop marketing its facial recognition software to law enforcement. the american civil liberties union says police can use the technology to automate the identification and tracking of anyone. one sheriff's office in oregon is already using the software to check photographs of suspects against its database of mug shots. amazon says the software has been used to find lost children and other reasons. golden gate bridge officials acknowledge the span is looking a little shabby these days. now there's a push to gussy up

our iconic bridge. the golden gate will celebrate its 81st birthday on sunday. a mill valley man plans the form a non-profit to raise millions of dollars dedicated to painting the bridge and restoring its luster. bridge officials say painting the structure isn't easy, especially the south tower. it will cost up to $30 million because it's so difficult to get up there. the warriors lost game four of the western conference finals last night. and it cost fans a big chunk of change. stubhub says you needed at least $207 to get into oracle for the game. the average ticket price was $607. in an odd twist, 12% of stubhub ticket buyers were from arizona, 1% from texas. >> it will cost dub nation much less to get into oracle. >> warriors playing game five in houston but the team announced it's hosting a watch party at

11th. sheriff's deputies were called out to foster's home that day after receiving three 911 calls from former girlfriend alyssa ennis. she says foster punched her ten times, rap touring one of her eardrums. ennis now says she made the whole story up and was injured the night before during a fight with another woman following a road rage incident in san francisco. ennis' attorney advised her not to testify. >> by her getting on the stand over her lawyer's objection and telling her story i think suggests this case is just not prosecutable for the d.a.'s office. >> reporter: ennis testified she tried to bring false domesticenr ex-boyfriend in 2011 when that man tried to break up with her. the 49ers said before they're going to wait for the case to be resolved before they make decisions on foster's future. live in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. morgan hill police are reaching out to find a group of

daytime burglars. they're releasing photos of two of the men they're looking for. the most recent burglary happened yesterday morning. police say the suspects parked their vehicles in the area, walked to the front door of a home and forced their way in. investigators say they've seen a spike in burglaries in the past week. i want to show you another live look at the lava that's spewing out of kilauea volcano on hawaii's big island. i do want to show you brand new video that we got from overnight. look at this. it's really a dramatic low that you can see from the volcano. these images were captured by the gemini observatory. again, very beautiful but super dangerous. right now there's an effort to save a geothermal plant threatened by lava. laf i have already destroyed a building near the plant. officials say the plant is stable for now, but they're

stole thousands of sunglasses over the weekend. here is the surveillance video showing a man trying to break into eyes in disguise, an optometry business on union street at 2:30 a.m. on sunday. he tried smashing the tempered glass and tried to put his arm through the glass and unlock the door. no luck. he made his way down the street to shaw shoes where, again, he smashed the glass and grabbed fendi sunglasses. >> i feel pretty upset and couldn't sleep all night after the call. >> it seems to be happening not only here but in other parts, as i've talked to other colleagues who have optometry stores, this is a new crime that's gaining popularity. >> the thieves according to the store owner sell the glasses on ebay. san francisco police say it may be the same guy. neighbors in marin county

have a month and a half to weigh in on two plans to save homes and businesses. chronic flooding has plagued fairfax, san anselmo and ross for years now. last night marin supervisors got a look at proposed flood control projects. it includes removing a building in san anselmo to block creek flow. residents have 45 days to comment. b.a.r.t. is getting ready for its next big expansion. the exact details are pretty much up in the air. >> the b.a.r.t. board is going to consider the expansion to livermore at its meeting tomorrow. two options under consideration, the first extending the dublin-pleasanton avenue to is bale avenue in livermore. >> the sect would build a less costly bus system to isabelle avenue. here is the problem, the extension in both of these proposals would stop four miles short of the a registration in downtown livermore.

that poses a problem for is central valley commuters who would much rather have a connection. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. let's talk about temperatures on the peninsula. pretty steady all week with low to mid 50s here. let's take a look at the rest of our neighborhoods, mid to upper 50s with san jose and concord at 57. we do have our hills a little cooler. los gatos at about 1800 feet, about 48 degrees. we'll show you santa cruz this morning. just kind of gray there, kind of like it's going to be for all of us with a lot more drizzle and a lot more areas, and because it is heavier this morning, especially down into the lower elevations, we've got slick spots everywhere that alexis will tell you about causing issues. mass transit, cool this morning, still cool this afternoon. but at least it won't be as damp as this morning. the ferry ride the same thing, damp this morning and breezy from 9:00 to 3:00 today. that's mainly north of the bay bridge. let's talk about temperatures in the east bay, 56 and cloudy at

8:00. still cloudy at 10:00 and 58. sun breaks through the clouds at 62. more sunshine this afternoon, mid 60s through 4:00. 58 degrees by the time you get to 8:00. here is a look at the north bay. the cloud cover is much more stubborn here. because of that, temperatures are going to stay in the low to mid 60s most of the afternoon hours and fall back into the mid 50s even if it does get a little bit brighter as we head into the evening hours. i wanted to show you this. about 30% coverage with drizzle, the shower chance jumps up to about 50% friday. let's find out how the drizzle is affecting this morning's commute. >> we've had several issues already today. in fact, i want to get back to the crash i just mentioned inside caldecott tunnel. it is a sig alert. we have the right bore fully blocked. it is the countercommute direction, eastbound 24. bore one is closed until further notice. bore two is still open. so for those folks heading

eastbound towards orinda, lafayette, walnut creek, you're able to get through. expect minor delays. it sounds like we have possible injuries due to that crash. this is golden gate bridge, still light volumes on that southbound side. look at that pavement. we've got that sheen. folks with windshield wipers on this morning. the mist and drizzle creating conditions. westbound 80 highway 4 to the maze, 26 minutes already. filling in much quicker with the wet pavement. westbound 8012 minutes. san francisco to sfo in the green at ten minutes. i want to show you what's happening right now in france. this is a short time ago. let me show you here the french president emmanuel macron meeting with facebook ceo mark zuckerberg and 50 other tech bosses. really a big deal and a big tech push by the french president.
