>> driving conditions not exactly ideal as you mentioned. we've had several issues already this morning. want to take you back to our sig alert. this is the biggest problem, on the lighter side of traffi for highway 24. eastbound 24 inside caldecott tunnel. a two-car crash is fully blocking the right bore. chp has cleared one of the two vehicles. the tow company will come get the other one shortly. on the san mateo bridge, a disabled vehicle or a minor crash on the right shoulder. a lot of mist and drizzle. probably have to use your wipers. you definitely want to drive for conditions. a purse snatcher is on the streets this morning after one of his victims, a 93-year-old woman is fighting to recover from her injuries. >> so pathetic. abc 7's amy hollyfield live in concord this morning. >> reporter: reggie, police have very clear surveillance pictures that they found that they want

you to take a look at. you won't believe how good these pictures are. take a look. this is the picture of the man inside the bank. this is who they think did this. they think he's about 30 years old. notice he has a tattoo on his right forearm. they also have a picture of the white chevy malibu they believe he was driving. police say they think he stole the purses of two women, age 64 and 93. the older woman was pushed to the ground. she was hurt. police say she had significant injuries. he's still in the hospital. this happened around 4:00 friday afternoon. this was near the bank of america in the sun valley mall in concord. if you know this man, concord police would like to hear from you. live in concord, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. meanwhile a pittsburg man is facing a charge in connection with a series of gold chain snatchings in fremont. remember this surveillance video we showed you earlier this month? this footage led to the arrest.

you can see that man violently grabbing the gold chain from her neck. officers arrested a man named jermaine smith who currently faces one count of robbery. they say he does have a criminal history including a previous robbery charge. happening today, catering workers with united airlines will rally at seven airports at sfo organizers want to unionize. they say they're protesting low wages and lack against unjust first aings and suspensions. the official statement says we believe the union's allegations against united airlines and its management are baseless and we look forward to hearing the results of the national mediation board's investigation. new at 6:00, apple, google and other big companies could soon face a new tax. according to the business journal, both cupertino and mountain view are considering so-called head taxes. that means they would charge a

company by the number of employees it has. officials say the taxes could generate $5 million per year for each city. the mountain view city council could discuss that proposal tonight. cupertino hired a company to poll residents. both cities would need voter approval before a so-called head tax could be implemented. new at 6:00 a.m., two big election stories making headlines while you were sleeping. we'll start with this one first out of georgia, as i push play. this is stacey abrams, she's won the democratic primary. if she beats out the republican, she'll become the first woman governor of georgia. another big story a lot of gay rights activists are watching. do you remember kim davis? she was the controversial kentucky clerk who went to jail three years ago for denying marriage licenses to gay couples citing religious beliefs. she had a slight victory last

night. a gay man who she had previously denied a license to was trying to unseat davis in her county clerk role. he couldn't quite get it done. he failed to get the democratic nomination. davis will be facing another opponent in the election. rock climbing certainly a high-risk sport. it gets even more dangerous in bad weather. the national park service says a hiker fell to his death at yosemite during a thunderstorm. this happened on monday afternoon. he fell from the cables on half dome. >> never trust that the sierras will be safe. always prepare for the worst. if a storm comes in, you don't go for it because the higher you get exposed, the more you'll get lightning strikes. >> monday's death was the first on the half dome cable since 2011. the numbers are in and b.a.r.t. says it is getting safer. >> it says that so far this year b.a.r.t. has seen a 9% drop in

the sig alert eastbound 24 inside caldecott tunnel. the left bore is open, right bore still fully blocked due to the two-vehicle crash with injuries. the driverless car debate is ramping up in san francisco. the examiner reports city transportation officials are asking state regulators to incorporate data sharing into new rules for driverless cars if they carry passengers. they want the gps information to help combat traffic the company is including ub ber, lyft and waymo, they want to restrict driverless car data. this is very interesting. a new aaa study finds 73% of american drivers say they're too afraid to ride in a self-driving car. only 20% say they trust these driverless cars. aaa says it's because of recent

this morning a new recommendation from the ntsb to make school buses safer. the agency announced that new school buses should have both lap and shoulder seat belts. only a few states, including california require three-point seatbelts. after a deadly crash in new jersey last week, transportation officials say it is time for a change. >> this will be a historic day. we have tip towed around that for a long time. it's time to take a hard stance on this. >> rollover tests show what can happen to children in buses without seatbelts. the ntsb says buses can be with automatic braking and electronic stability control. the manhattan lawyer who ranted against spanish-speaking restaurant workers says he's not a racist. aaron schlossberg issued an apology yesterday. he said seeing himself can open his eyes and his actions are not acceptable. he said the video did not, quote, convey the real me.

last week schlossberg accused spanish-speaking employees of being on welfare and threatened to call i.c.e. the reunion one year in the make. jake the dog went missing from phoenix, arizona in 2017. last month the 7-year-old was found wandering the streets in pennsylvania more than 2,000 miles away. a vet scanned the chip and gave his owner some good news. there's just one problem, jake's owner had just had a baby and couldn't make the cross kubt trip to pick him up. that's when the dog rescue hatched a master plan. volunteers drove jake from one place to the next to the next to the next until he finally reached his family. still no word on how jake ended up so far from home. he was like, i just wanted to run away, just wanted to see the road. >> that's my favorite story of the day. i can't believe it because jake looks fine. jake was just living his life. oh, i guess i did get that far. >> forest gump moment there,

just started running and never stopped. running this morning? a little humid out there. you may get a little wet, also, because the drizzle is a little heavier and more widespread. it's causing delays at sfo. make sure you call ahead. in fact, we'll have cool conditions again this afternoon and we'll see a little more sunshine than yesterday. cloudy tonight, less drizzle to deal with during tomorrow morning's commute. we have a chance of showers friday and the summer warmth arrives just in time for the end of the holiday weekend. today, san francisco, mid to upper 50s in most neighborhoods. downtown in mission about 60. south san francisco about 61 degrees. head over to the east bay, what we're looking at here has a narrow range, 63 to 66 degrees. definitely not as gray as yesterday. same thing on the peninsula where temperatures will hit the mid to upper 60s. but at theest co-still kind of a raw day with 55 in pacifica, half moon bay 57. down in the south bay, a slight bump up. still below average from 66 in milpitas to about 71 in san

jose. our east bay valleys we're looking at upper 60s to low 70s until you get into the san ramon valley. look at that, mid 60s and up in the north bay, because the clouds linger the longest here outside of the coast, in the low to mid 60s. once you get up to ukiah, more sunshine and about 73 degrees. here is a look at the lows tonight. notice not as much green on the map that we had yesterday. a little drizzle possible. especially near the coast tomorrow. mostly cloudy, temperatures about the same. thursday night into friday morning, our best chance of showers, so friday's morning commute could be wet, also. saturday we'll see a rebound in temperatures but nothing like -- >> taking a look at the south bay we are pretty dry this morning. that's really our driest commute.

below average. 60 in san francisco to san jose at 71. if you thought that popping a pill would somehow keep your skin safe while you were tanning, think again. u.s. food and drug administration issuing a warning to companies that sell pills claiming to counter the effects of the sun's harmful rays. the fda says these bills are not delivering. instead they're misleading consumers and putting people at risk. the fda commissioner says no pill or capsule can replace your sunscreen. this morning we're getting a closer look at what happened when a woman hit a santa cruz county sheriff's deputy with a patrol car. it ended up with the suspect being shot three times. >> yesterday the sheriff's office released this body camera video of the incident. the sheriff says it all began with a routine patrol stop on ocean street extension friday. deputies detained two people near a stolen vehicle, and 27-year-old jessica low escaped,

got into the driver's seat of a patrol car. >> people were being detained in handcuffs in the back of patrol cars, and at that point the deputies were doing their investigation about the stolen car. and so it shows you in law enforcement how quickly things turn chaotic. >> investigators say lowe charged at one deputy and that's when the deputy's partner opened fire. this morning lowe is still in the hospital and the injured deputy is out on medical leave. a plastic straw with your soda might be a thing of the past at mcdonald's. today mcdonald's shareholders will be asked to vote to ban plastic straws at all 36,000 locations around the world. instead, the company would have to find greener alternatives. company officials want shareholders to reject the proposal. they say restaurants are already working to reduce waste and promote recycling and they're working with packaging experts to find cost effective alternatives.

comcast is investigating a security flaw that exposed customer passwords on the web. anyone with a subscriber's account number and street address number could be given the user and password to the related wi-fi account. comcast says it shut down the service in question within hours of learning of the issue. the company says it has no reason to believe any account information was actually accessed. golden gate bridge officials acknowledge the span is looking a little shabby these days. now there's a push to gussy up san francisco's icon. the golden gate bridge will be sell braefting its 81st birthday this sunday. according to our media partner, the marin lg, a non-profit raising millions of dollars dedicating to restoring the bridge. officials say painting the structure isn't so easy. it would cost up to $30 million because of the difficult nature of the work. next at 6:30, first san jose, now b.a.r.t. could be heading closer to the central valley than ever before.

ace 1, 3 and 5 on time. 57 b.a.r.t. trains in service, no delays. normal service and no delays for san francisco bay ferry. happening today, we expect a judge to decide if a domestic violence case moves forward for a 49ers player. >> reuben foster's ex-girlfriend ak cued him of hitting her and then testified she made it up. abc news reporter matt keller live in san jose. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning. a big day for reuben foster. he could be walking out of this courthouse later today with a big win off the field. today a judge will decide if he'll go to trial on charges related to an alleged domestic violence incident in february. foster's former girl friend, alyssa ennis testified she falsely accused the 49ers linebacker of domestic violence because she wanted to get back at him for breaking up with her. legal analyst stephen clark says ennis' testimony seemed to be credible. >> it came off raw. it came off organic and she

broke down on the stand and apologized. >> reporter: ennis also testified she tried to bring false domestic violence charges against another ex-boyfriend in 2011 when that man tried to break up with her. 49ers have said they're waiting for the case to be resolved before making any decisions on foster's future. the judge is expected to issue her ruling at 3:30 this afternoon. live in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. thank you, matt. morgan hill police are reaching out to the public to find a group of daytime burglars. these are the two men they're looking for. the most recent burglary happened yesterday morning. police say the suspects parked their vehicle in the area, walked to the front door of a home and forced their way in. investigators say they've seen a spike in burglaries in the past week. this morning, i've been trashing the effort to save a geothermal plant in hawaii threatened by lava flows. look at this new video from overnight on the big island.

you can see that fountain of lava spewing from the kilauea volcano. yesterday the lava destroyed a building near the geothermal plant. officials say for now it's stable. they stoppeds toic gases from seeping out. but they're monitoring it closely. a spike in gas levels could prompt a mass evacuation. our team here at abc 7 news watching the situation closely. a bunch of vendors outside oracle arena were just as unhappy as warriors fans last night. >> abc 7 news went along as federal agents busted several pop-up vendors for selling counterfeit gear. they took thousands of dollars of fake merchandise off the streets. >> the money that they're spending to distribute these counterfeit items can oftentimes be funded in furtherance of narcotics activity, weapons trafficking or in some cases

national security risk. >> inside of oracle arena the rockets came back to beat the dubs 95-92. now the series is tied 2-2. game five is tomorrow night in houston. san francisco police are investigating after a thief stole thousands of dollars' worth of sunglasses over the weekend. look at him. pretty clear in this surveillance video. shows him transcribing to break into eyes in disguise, a n optometry business on union street. this happened at 2:30 sunday morning. the suspect tried smashing the tempered glass, tried to put his arm through to get to the door to unlock it. couldn't quite reach it. he made his way down the street to shah shoes where he smashed the glass and grabbed fendi sunglasses. >> i feel pretty upset and couldn't sleep all night after the call. >> it seems to be happening not only here but in other parts, as i've talked to other colleagues who have optometry stores, this is a new crime that's gaining

popularity. >> the stone owner says thieves sell the sunglasses on ebay. san francisco police say both incidents are open investigations and the suspect who at this point is unknown may be the same person. neighbors in marin county have a month and a half to weigh in on two plans to save homes and businesses from flooding. chronic flooding in 20 o 5, damaging 1200 homes and 200 businesses. last night marin supervisors got a look at a proposed flood control project. it includes removing a build in san anselmo that blocks creek flow. residents now have 45 days to comment. b.a.r.t. plans to extend out to livermore to accommodate commuters from the central valley who take theality mont corridor ex-pret. >> b.a.r.. officials are considering five options. the two big ones, extending the dublin-pleasanton live to

isabelle avenue, or build a less costly bus system which would be kind of like a light rail to the same location. officials are expected to vote tomorrow. there's a catch. the extension in either case would shop four miles short of the ace station in livermore. tomorrow's vote is going to affect how they go forward. all right. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. let's start with temperatures down in the south bay. up in the hills, as it's been the case all week, a little cooler, los gatos, 47, los altos hills 50. mid to upper 50s around san jose and santa clara. temperatures at 50 in bodega bay. the rest of us in the mid 50s. drift and mizzel -- mist and drizzle are out there once again. it's been coating our streets.

i want to show you the golden gate bridge right now. we've checked out this camera a few times, showing how misty and drizzly it is this morning, a crash in marin county, for the north bay, it involves four vehicles. one of those vehicles is a bus. they have confirmed no injuries to any of those bus riders. i'm not sure about the folks in the other three vehicles. they're calling for a tow truck to the scene. i believe three out of four of those vehicles will need to be towed. as you get into the sausalito area, the two right lanes blocked due to that crash. in the south bay, it is dry there. we briefly had a crash involving a motorcycle in northbound 101 around tully road, that cleared from the boards as well. still residual delays. that's starting to look better.. abc 7 weather anchor spencer christian is opening up about challenges in his life. we has a new book out called "you bet your life." it came out earlier this month.
