you're taking a live look at volcano on hawaii's big island. that's the lava shooting out of the earth to heights of more than 100 feet at times. a power plant is out of danger for now. cooling lava formed a wall protecting the plant. a little irony there, but what a visual. >> awesome. since late evening in hawaii right now, which explains this nighttime shot, but i could look all day. live picture there. one family forced to evacuate due to the eruption came home to find this, a 10-foot-wide crack running through the back yard and right under their home. they are absolutely heartbroken. >> unbelievable. to the east coast of the u.s., the fbi has joined police near philadelphia in trying to figure out what's going boom in the night.

>> local police have been getting reports of late night explosion sounds over the past couple months. >> i just remember it being like the middle of the night. >> reporter: samantha ritter recalling how last month she thought she heard fireworks nearby. >> i looked out the window thinking maybe the neighbors were setting off fireworks or something, i didn't see anything so i went back to sleep. >> reporter: since early april, police across bucks county and lehigh county have received reports of explosions and more. >> the ground is shaking, the buildings are shaking, ceiling tiles are moving, windows rattling. >> reporter: township chief says reports come overnight between midnight and 5:00. some describe it as a thud like vehicles slamming together. others are reminded of underground blasting. donna weaver remembers how loud it seemed. it startled both she and her dog. >> it was really loud. >> reporter: what did it sound like? >> it just sounds like a big boom. like boom.

>> reporter: given the complaints come from communities miles apart, state police are investigating, and the atf and fbi are assisting. in richland township, the chief says two of his officers heard the sound, one seeing a flash. >> there was a flash of light. maybe several seconds before he heard the sound. and the other officer who was further away heard the sound later than he did. and they both thought it was coming from different directions. >> reporter: the booms or blasts or whatever they are, are not occurring every night or at least people are not calling the police every night. and while something has been heard in multiple locations, not everybody is hearing it. on this particular street, five people told us they have heard the sound. four others say they didn't hear a thing. in milford township, channel 6 action news. >> so they hear it between 2:00 and 3:00 in the morning when we're on. just turn up the -- >> could be our fault? >> or turn up the volume on us. >> good point. turn up the volume on "world news now."

good morning. i'm diane macedo. good morning. i'm diane macedo. >> i'm kendis gibson. here are some of the top headlines we're following on "world news now." a small political victory for democrats. the congressional gang of eight has now been invited to an intelligence briefing triggered on president trump's unproven allegations that the fbi was spying on his campaign. north korea threatening to pull out of a meeting with the united states because of a comment by mike pence. pence said it could end up like libya if they don't agree to give up their nuclear program. a spokesperson called pence a political dummy. and parts of florida could see three to six inches of rain on top of five to ten inches that's already swamped much of

that state. and the washington capitals are heading to their first stanley cup final in 20 years. their championship series begins monday night. those are some of our top stories on this thursday, may 24th. from abc news, this is "world news now." and we do say good morning everyone. we're going to start this half hour with the tale of two intel briefings. >> democrats were left out but they'll now be part as a group of the gang of eight. the other will only be republicans. >> the president continues his unsubstantiated claims about an informant looking into his campaign. here is jonathan karl. >> reporter: it started with a few tweets, and now with no apparent evidence president trump is loudly proclaiming that

the fbi and justice department planted spies in his 2016 campaign. the tweets came in rapid succession, calling the alleged conspiracy one of the biggest scandals in history, perpetrated by a quote, criminal deep state. a spy put there by the previous administration for political purposes, with no known evidence any of that happened, the president was asked today for proof. >> all you have to do is look at the basics and you'll see. it looks like a very serious event. i hope it's not true, but it looks like it is. >> reporter: i asked the president, who could possibly be behind such a thing. >> well, i don't want to get into it yet, but i tell you after we look at -- >> reporter: president obama? >> would he know? i would certainly hope not, but i think it's going to be pretty obvious after a while. >> reporter: he then pointed to something president obama's director of national intelligence said on "the view".

>> if you look at clapper, he sort of admitted they had spies in the campaign. >> reporter: that's not what clapper said. >> was the fbi spying on trump's campaign? >> no, they were not. they were spying on, a term i don't particularly like, but on what the russians were doing. >> reporter: the allegations were triggered by a report that an fbi informant questioned two campaign advisers about their contacts with russian operatives. the use of such informants is routine. there's no mention of a spy infiltrating the campaign. but this is not the first time the president has talked about espionage or surveillance without evidence. he suggested there were tapes of his conversations with james comey. the white house later said there were none. he said without further proof that the trump tower was tapped. he was asked if these spygate allegations were an attempt to undercut the russia investigation. >> no, no. what i'm doing is a service as to this country. >> reporter: meanwhile jared kushner has his security

clearance finally. something he's been trying to get for 15 months. this happened after he went in for a second meeting with robert mueller that included extensive questioning about kushner's foreign contacts during the campaign and the transition. this could be a good sign for kushner, because apparently nothing in that interview raised enough of a red flag to prevent him from getting that security clearance. jonathan kaabc news, the white house. in the meantime, the president is considering a 25% tax on car imports, under the s tariffs on steel and aluminum. he asked the commerce secretary to determine whether the imports pose a threat to national security. the move may be seen as a leverage in stalled trade talks with mexico and canada.

and the first panels of the replacement border wall have been installed near el paso, texas. there was an executive order to replace a 20-mile stretch of barriers. it's expected to cost over $70 million. the nfl players association says it wasn't consulted on the new national anthem policy. it says players on the field have to stand for the anthem or their team could be fined. the policy also gives players the option of staying in the locker room until after the anthem is completed. commissioner roger goodell announced the policy, saying it was unanimously approved by team owners. >> if anyone is on the field and is disrespectful to the anthem or the flag, there would be a fine from the league against the team. we want people to be respectful to national anthem. we want people to stand. >> but the unanimous vote is

disputed by the owner of the 49ers who said he abstained from the vote. the owner of the jets is siding with his players, saying they won't be punished if they break the policy. he says he'll pay any fines that result from player actions. we're getting our first look at the controversial tasing and arrest of sterling brown. the milwaukee police department released body cam video of the incident and apologized for the officers' actions. alex perez reports. >> you don't see the issue here? >> reporter: this just-released body cam video showing the confrontation between police and milwaukee bucks player sterling brown. >> i just told you to back up. >> reporter: in the video, brown is seen talking to police. >> take your hands out of your pockets now. >> reporter: the situation soon escalating. >> taser, taser, taser. >> reporter: officers then tasing him. the police chief condemning that use of force. >> our department conducted an investigation into the incident, which revealed members acted inappropriately. and those members were recently disciplined. i'm sorry this incident escalated to this level.

>> reporter: milwaukee's mayor says it raises questions about the officers' conduct. >> as a human being, i am offended by what i saw on the video. as mayor, i am committed to improving police/community relations. mr. brown deserves an apology, and i am very sorry the milwaukee police treated him in the fashion he was treated. >> reporter: the incident unfolding back in january at about 2:00 notice morning at this milwaukee walgreen's parking lot. the only account of that night from officers themselves who said in a report they were called after brown illegally parked his car blocking two handicap spaces. when brown exited the store, ofcers s he became very aggressive and saying he physically resisted officers' attempts to handcuff him and a taser had to be used to get him in control.

febreze one. you're looking at what's you're looking at what's left of a church in phoenix after what authorities say was likely a natural gas explosion. some residents nearby were evacuated after the incident but they've been allowed back home. search dogs found no one inside, no one was injured but quite a bit of damage. we turn to the tropical disturbance in the gulf of mexico. it has a 60% chance of developing into a tropical depression. you can't quite see it on the coast of the gulf coast there. it could slam into those southern states this holiday weekend.

>> florida, with its sinkhole alley is now a particular risk. victor oquendo has more. >> reporter: crews racing to stabilize the largest of four sinkholes that opened up in this retirement community, swallowing part of a driveway and the street. right in front of frank and jan newman's home. >> every day, every week it gets worse. >> reporter: they showed us inside. >> cracks here. >> reporter: they haven't been able to live here since february, when they say eight sinkholes severely damaged their home. what's it like seeing your home like this. >> oh, terrible. this was a nice house. we had the nicest house in the neighborhood. we don't know whether we'll be able to live in it again. >> reporter: it's unclear whether it was caused naturally or by a broken pipe underground. there are others opening up at a nearby high school. and just weeks ago in ocala, florida, 15 sinkholes opening in a retention pond forcing eight families to evacuate. crews are hard at work trying to fill that sinkhole.

>> reporter: what started as one officer engaging with a black man over a routine parking violation turns violent in an instant. >> taser, taser, taser! >> reporter: milwaukee bucks player sterling brown tased on the ground. surrounded by police officers in a matter of minutes. the incident caught on body camera. for some this highlights the everyday dangers faced by black men in this country. the incident began in the early morning hours of january 26. according to the police report, an officer from the milwaukee police department was doing a business check at a walgreen's on the south side of milwaukee. he then spotted a mercedes parked horizontally across two handicapped spaces. the driver of that car was sterling brown. >> how you doing? you got a driver's license? where's that? back up. you don't see the issue here? hold on.
