take 880 northbound if you're trying to catch a flight this morning. i've seen varying levels of backup. not too bad at the moment. boy, as we got into the later morning commute hours when this happened last wednesday we saw massive delays, talking about maybe 45-minute delays. expecting the same thing this morning. i don't think this water will recede quickly. we have a crew on the way to the scene. we should have more information for you shortly. let's check in with meteorologist mike nicco. this is a little ironic because everywhere else we have dry pavement. >> quite a change from yesterday. we expected it to be much drier this morning. we're seeing a break in the cloud cover as well. the winds are not as fast as yesterday. fingers crossed we'll get more sunshine this afternoon. temperatures are still going to be well below average. this is the way it breaks down. low to mid 50s this morning, and then we'll be around 50 at the

coast, mid 60s elsewhere. mid 60s at 4:00. bad to mid 50s to 60 at :00. we have the storm coming in for tonight. more details on that coming up. let's turn it over for more news. >> the traffic nightmare crossing the altamont pass into the bay area. now b.a.r.t. looking at a solution. an expansion this time east to livermore. abc 7 reporter amy hollyfield is live at the dublin-pleasanton station. >> reporter: good morning. people here love the idea. there are actually a few versions of it. the b.a.r.t. board will be discussing those today and is expected to vote on whether to extend to livermore. there are a few options of how to do that. one is a b.a.r.t. station. that's expensive. $1.6 billion. another idea is a light rail-like bus extension. that only costs $380 million. that's predicted to take fewer

cars off the road than a b.a.r.t. station would. commuters here at the end of the line in dublin-pleasanton perk up when you mention a ride from livermore. >> it would be a lot easier commute, yeah. a lot easier. it would be more convenient to not have to fight the traffic in the morning. >> reporter: in the afternoon, what's it like? >> even better. around 3:30, 4:00 in the afternoon it is horrible. it's horrible. it would be nice. >> reporter: highway 4 is about to get some relief. the new antioch extension is set to open this saturday. commuters over here who use interstate 580 say it's their turn. they need some relief. b.a.r.t. will take up that issue today. we will keep you posted on how the board decides to vote. live from the dublin-pleasanton station, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. new this morning and making international headlines, north korea saying it demolished a nuclear test site.

we don't have the video of the demolition quite yet. this happened this morning as you were sleeping, deep in the mountain ans of north korea, the closing of the nuclear site was announced a while back by leader kim jong-un, comes as he has the planned summit with president trump. as you may know, north korea has been wavering on the summit. so this may be a good sign of things to come. we'll keep our eyes on the developing story. back to you. a poll just released shows lieutenant governor gavin newsom is maintaining his lead in the race for california governor. >> the interesting news here is what the republican challenger is dng in this poll. according to the public policy institute of california, newsom leads with 235% of likely voters. businessman and republican john cox now in second place with 19% of the vote. president trump recently tweeted an endorsement for cox who is up 4% from last month. former l.a. marianne tonio villaraigosa in third at 15%.

police in oakland are still looking for the person who shot and killed a man during a possible home invasion robbery this week. someone broke into the home on carrington street just after 9:30 tuesday night. officers who were called to the scene to investigate a home invasion found the resident of the home suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. a house fire in san francisco around 4:30 yesterday afternoon along parker avenue near the university of san francisco campus. the fire displaced four people. one person suffered smoke inhall lakes. 49ers linebacker rub bichb fofter could rejoin the team today after the judge dismissed domestic violence charges against him. abc 7 news was in san jose as he walked out of court yesterday. he didn't give a comment. foster's ex-girlfriend recanted her story saying she wanted to ruin his career after he broke up with her. 49ers gm john lynch says foster's place on the team is one he must continue to earn.

foster still faces a misdemeanor gun charge t. santa clara county district attorney's office released a statement saying in part we are disappointed because the evidence demonstrated that mr. foster seriously hurt his girlfriend. some have wondered why we still think mr. foster hurt his girlfriend when she said he didn't. recantation is common among domestic violence victims. nearly two years after kaepernick knelt during the naval anthem, the only to obtain from the voting. the team didn't address it last night. under the new rule any player who comes out on the field during the anthem has to stand. otherwise the team will get fined. players have the option of staying in the locker room instead. the new policy was approved by all the teams except the 9ers. >> there's so much more to it than just a player standing or a team employee standing.

we want to take a broader approach. the nfl players association said that league officials did not consult with the union in the development of this new policy. and other related note, new this morning, president trump giving a rare tv interview and perhaps the most controversial thing he said this morning was during his support of the nfl's new b on kneeling during the national anthem, he actually spoke out to fox and friends. i want to play you part of that interview. >> not only people should be staying in locker rooms, still i think it's good. you have to stand proudly for the national anthem or you shouldn't be playing, shouldn't be there. maybe you shouldn't be in the country. i don't view to stand proudly for the national anthem. >> the president went on to say the new rules should have been implemented earlier. san francisco missed its goal of sg zero waste for 2020 and not for a lack of trying. it turns out we're just lazy. the reason a new car or truck may soon cost you a lot

looks like your brightest hour will be right around noon as we hit the low 60s, mid 60s this afternoon, down to 57 during the evening hours. in the south bay, mixture of sun and clouds, temperatures at noon mid to upper 60s through about 6:00. we'll talk about when that rain gets to your neighborhood coming up next. here is alexis. >> head back live to sky 7 over that flooding once again in san jose. we've got the same pump issue we had last week on 280. this is the southbound side of 280 at the highway 87 interchange. you can see that water totally over the roadway on the ramps to 87. that's closed. sky 7 this morning showing the two right lanes of the mainline are closed as well. you are able to get by in the two left lanes. i'm not seeing many vehicles right now. they could be holding traffic just behind that, setting up a cone pattern this morning. looks like maybe we've got caltrans crews out. i know they're working on this pump issue right now. it looks like they're setting um more cones. maybe taking away another lane. not a great situation.

turning to the controversy surrounding the netflix show "13 reasons why." the actors are addressing the concerns that parents have about the series. season two just came out last week. on tuesday we told you a group called parents television

council wanted both seasons pulled saying they contain substance abuse, gun violence and sexual assault. devin druid plays a character who brings a gun to school. he says especially in light of the santa fe school shooting, the show is fueling a national conversation about a serious issue. >> young people's voices are being heard and they're incredibly powerful messages and doing incredible job of not letting the conversation die down and holding people's feet to the fire. we wanted to be a part of that discussion. >> you can watch the full interview at 7:00 on "good morning america." the trump administration is considering slapping tariffs on cars imported into the u.s. the president ordered the commerce department to consider applying tariffs on cars, trucks and parts to determine their effects on national security. the tariffs could be as high as 25%. shares in toyota motor corporation dropped nearly 2% in after hours trading after the report. shares of gm and ford actually

chance of rain and showers tonight through tomorrow. and then building warmth to even some heat into land next week. today we've got combined of a chill along theest co-58 at half moon bay. low to mid 60s in the north shore. we get to the 70s at lakeport and yu kaya. tonight, low to mid 50s. what you'll notice is look at the green, a lot more widespread and gets significantly heavier as you head into the sierra. a look at the area of low pressure that will keep us unsettled late today through saturday. here is the hour-by-hour time frame. 7:00 tonight, pretty cloudy, you can see the yellow, the greens and the whites. by 4:00 tomorrow morning, we're starting the commute in some areas steady rain, in other areas drizzle to pockets of showers. we'll see the transition turn over to just scattered showers and no more ready rain and

drizzle. in teaching hours, still watching a little bit out there, especially in the north bay. saturday morning you can see the drier air blow in. temperatures start responding after being stuck in the 50s and 60s tomorrow. we'll still be in the 50s at the coast, 60s and 70s saturday. look at the run of near 70 around the coast, 80 around the bay and low 90s inland by the holiday. heading back to our traffic alert. we've had this since about 4:07 this morning. this is flooding once again in san jose due to a pump issue. southbound 280 at state route 87. the connector to 87 is closed. the three right lanes are closed. we saw them setting um this traffic pattern a few minutes ago. last time we checked in with sky 7, what we're afraid of, they now have things down to just one lane, that far left lane. we're starting to see a backup due to this as well. we have a crew arriving to the scene shortly. westbound 92 in the meantime,

slow at the toll plaza for smidgeon the foster city side just before 101. we have a crash in the two left lanes. a kwek check of the drive times. that's a big improvement, westbound 580 tracy to dublin 1 hour and 30 minutes, still bouncing back from an earlier motorcycle crash. no delays coming in from the north bay. with clouds increasing as the next storm approaches and brings us a chance of rain tonight. . no fun in san jose this morning, mike. getting a repeat of last and's morning commute. the same issue. sky 7 over highway 280 and 87 this morning. again we've got this pump issue and a massive amount of water on the roadway. so much so we're down to just one lane open southbound 280. the connector to 87 fully blocked. we've got the three right lanes of the mainline blocked. as sky 7 pans back a bit, we're starting to see a backup. we knew we would. the issue started just after 4:00 this morning. it took a while to fill in and have an impact. now that things are ramping up, we're starting to see things fill in and slow down. we have a crew that has arrived. matt keller live at the scene on 280. i just saw you talking to chp. what's the latest information? >> reporter: good morning, al

alex alexis. it happened a again. what a mess. i have good news to tell you. when you take a look at this massive puddle and all this flooding, you can see some of the water is starting to recede. that's because caltrans has one of the pumping working. they're working on getting the two other pumps up and running so they can get rid of all this water. they're estimating it may take as much as three hours to get rid of all this water and come through. they have to sweep up all that debris. i know what you're thinking, it's not raining. it's the same issue that happened last week in the same spot. last week it was a blown fuse at a nearby pump house that led to the flooding here. so multiple lanes were closed then along with the 87 connector ramp just like today. that time it took several hours to get that water out of the roadway before those lanes reopen. that's what they're hoping again today, to do the exact same thing. that's a big problem for commuters right now. i'll have my photographer ian, if he'll turn around, you can

see the big backup here. a lot of unhappy commuters this morning. this is a big backup, busy road southbound 280 at the 87 connector. hopefully they'll get that water up. >> what a mess. >> matt, appreciate the update. thank you. sky 7 was over a dumpster fire in san jose this morning. check out the flames here. this was just before 6:00 a.m. on east william street and south 8th. sk7 was at the scene before firefighters were there. we did see crews respond and they put it out. there are at least three trash fires. more information from san jose police and san jose fire. this is a pretty big update here, a purse snatcher in concord who severely injured a 93-year-old woman is in custody this morning. i want to show you the man police were looking for. here is his picture. detectives think he robbed two women and badly hurting

93-year-old woman. she was knocked to the ground at the sun valley shopping center last friday. police made the arrest in patterson. those officers will be working with con considered police on this case. we'll keep tracking the story. happening today, b.a.r.t.'s board of directors expected to take the first step in bringing wi-fi to trains. these are baby stepts. our media partner at "the mercury news" reports the board is ex-pengted to approve an exclusive negotiating contract with the company to provide wi-fi to b.a.r.t. stations and platforms. the proposal includes cell service for muni subway stations in san francisco. b.a.r.t. and muni will have six months to reach a deal with the wi-fi company. it would still take a few years for the contractor and b.a.r.t. to install the hardware and then eventually on the trains. 6:34. happening today, the california supreme court is expected to rule whether facebook and other social media companies must turn

over user content to criminal defendants. two murder suspects in san francisco requested video and other content posted to facebook and instagram by the victim and a witness. those murder suspects claim that constitutional right to a fair trial entitles them to the material to prepare for their case. attorneys for facebook and instagram says a federal privacy law prevents the release of user content. terminally ill patients in california can't get a prescription for life ending drugs for now. yesterday an ap pales court decided not to reinstate the right to die law while it goes through the appeals process. attorney general javier per set that says he will have a chance to argue in favor of it. 6:35. a new report finds that six national park sites in the bay area would be among those threatened by proposeed expanded offshore drilling on the california coast. the national resources defense council report studied the trump

administration's proposal to expand offshore oil drills. fort point, golden gate national recreation area, point reyes national seashore, rose si the rif ter park and san francisco national historic park would be at risk if there is an oil spill. new details in the controversy at an east bay high school. students held a rally to keep a teacher from being transferred after he knelt during flag raising ceremonies on his campus. >> students were rallying for tyler rust, a teacher at heritage high in brentwood who took a knee on several occasions while rotc students raised the campus flag before the start of school. some parents and students think it showed disrespect to the military and the school. rust teaches u.s. history and is an adviser to the mock trial club and black student union. >> it's against police brutality and the unjust killings of african-americans and unarmed minorities.

he's a voice for the minority students on campus. if he goes, we lose our voice. >> students against the transfer have started an online petition which has more than 12,000 signatures from people all over the country. tesla says the model s that crashed into a pond in castro valley killing the driver was not an auto pilot. the body was found by an alameda county sheriff's dive time inside the car on sunday night. it was submerged in a pond off crow canyon road. chp investigators are trying to determine if he was possibly impaired or speeding at the time. two people are recovering after breathing smoke from a fire on a double deck are tour bus in san francisco. you can see the scorch marks. the crews did manage the put out the fire minutes after it started just before 5:00 yesterday afternoon. two passengers had to be treated for smoke inhalation.

t two fishermen are doing all right this morning after being pulled to safety from their sinking boat. it started taking on water near the benicia port yesterday afternoon. a chp helicopter happened to be north korean and went in to respond. the two fishermen were pulled to the chopper one by one. they were not hurt. the chp says the boat will be recovered at high tide. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. you can see the temperatures down in the south bay from about 50 in los altos hills, 48 in los gatos, 56 in san jose, about 52 in milpitas. low to mid 50s everywhere.the same coat you've used all week, you can use it again today. emeryville, a couple days ago, a lot of mist. could barely see the road. yesterday the road was wet. today pretty dry out there. good driving conditions as far as the weather goes. mass transit cool this morning, mild this afternoon. no need to worry about wet stops

lane open. caltrans crews have moved the cones over, now two left lanes open. that has not helped us out with the connector to 87 for folks trying to head to the san jose airport this morning. but at least the mainline is moving along a little better. things are slowly starting to improve. overall this is going to be an issue for the rest of the morning commute likely. we heard matt tell us they don't have an estimate on when the roadway will totally open. one of the two pumps is working in the area. it could be about three more hours until they get the water totally cleared. they may have to bring a street sweeper in after that. it's the same issue we saw just about a week ago. so avoid that area if possible. we'll keep an eye on this and check a couple other slow spots in just a few minutes. thank you, alexis. don't be alarm if you see smoke alongside highway 101 in marin county. a controlled burn is scheduled for today and tomorrow along the highway near the st. vincent drive exit located between san

tomorrow. a chance of rain saturday and drier for the rest of the holiday weekend. commuters know it all too well. we talk about it every day. the traffic nightmare as you go through the altamont pass into the bay area. >> today b.a.r.t. is considering another big expansion this time east to livermore. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live on i-580 to show you the traffic conditions this morning. >> reporter: good morning. before we talk about the solution, let me show you the problem. we are headed westbound on interstate 580. we are driving from livermore toward the dublin-pleasanton b.a.r.t. station. this is typically a very congested corridor during the morning and evening smuts. that'shat they're trying to bring relief to. so the b.a.r.t. board will discuss a few options today. one of them a new b.a.r.t. station, putting it in livermore. that idea would cost $1.6

billion. another option up for discussion is a light rail bus-like extension. that would be cheaper. they have the money for it. but it's estimated the b.a.r.t. station would get more cars off the road. either way, commuters we talked to this morning said a ride from livermore would be a huge improvement to their day. >> that would be great. that would eliminate a lot of the commute around here. >> how does that help you? >> it helps a lot. give an extra 20 minutes on my traveling time in order for me to drive. >> reporter: b.a.r.t. is already extending further east on highway 4, the antioch extension station is set to open saturday. that should bring a huge relief to that congested highway. people along interstate 580, this corridor they say now it's their turn. they're tired of this traffic. sick of being stuck in it. they're hoping to hear the b.a.r.t. board votes to extend to livermore.

another option is to do nothing. we'll keep you posted on how the board votes today. live from interstate 580, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. federal investigators rev l revealing brand new information on the crash. we're learning the suv spotted the woman six seconds before hitting her. the crash happened in march. the ntsb says the suv didn't stop because emergency braking was disabled. the national transportation safety board says emergency braking maneuvers are not enabled when uber's cars are under computer control because it reduces the potential for erratic behavior. instead those cars rely on a human driver to intervene. this is video of the crime scene. we know there's dash cam video out there that made headlines showing the driver looking down right before the woman was hit.

nba player sterling brown says he'll take legal action against the milwaukee police department. >> this announcement comes after the department released body camera video showing the bucks player being arrested and tased in january. >> taser, taser, taser. >> ah! >> you can hear brown groaning there. the department says an vision revealed that officers acted improperly. they have been disciplined. officers approached brown because his car was parked across two disabled parking saces. they say he became angry and resisted arrest. milwaukee's police chief says he is sorry the incident escalated to this level. >> a man involved in a charcoal barbecue made headlines across the country at lake merritt and oakland may soon have the power to change the rules. video of the confrontation between this white woman and two black men went viral. one of the men was kensey smith. the woman said using a charcoal

considering tariffs on cars, trucks and parts imports. the tariffs could be as high as 25%. here is a polarizing debate that has split families since the dawn of time. >> who makts a better navigator? a man or a woman. according to a study from uc santa barbara, men in general are more efficient navigators. researchers found that when navigating in a known environment men prefer to take shortcuts to reach their designation more quickly. women tend to use the route they know. keep in mind these are differences in average performance. there were outliers, some women were just as efficient as the best male performers. the study also suggests future research is needed to determine whether the results would be the same in a real life environment rather than a virtual world because men tend to spend more time playing video games than women, so they might just have been better at this test. my question, why then do men get lost so often and refuse to ask

breaking news. that's why we're interrupting your special program. president trump has canceled the planned summit with north korean leader kim jong-un scheduled for june 12th in singapore. president trump after a series of inflammatory statements and really a lack of clarity from north korea on what they were willing to do has decided to cancel the summit he clearly looked forward to. he issued a statement, a letter he wrote to kim jong-un. worth listening to extraordinary lines here. writing, kim, i was very much looking forward to being there with you. sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement, i feel it is inappropriate at this time to have this long planned meeting. he also says that the warnings north korea have issued about their nuclear capabilities, he says, ours are so massive and powerful, i pray to god we never have to use them. he also says, i felt a wonderful dialogue was building up between you and me, and he holds out the
