too quickly and why others have not met with northmenendez said art of diplomacy is harder than art of the deal. abc news, washington. san jose fire investigators confirmed moments ago they are, in fact, looking for an arsonist. more than a half dozen fires broke out within one hour's time this morning in the downtown area. matt keller is live near san jose university near one of the fires, matt? >> reporter: kristen, yes, dangerous fires. check it out. this is one set here in the dumpster. some of the burned out debris at the bottom there, and about 40 feet away, check this out, another one at a san jose state fraternity house. thankfully, nobody was injured. the fires started early in san jose, and sky7 was above the south downtown area at 6:30 this morning as f dumpsters and trash cans in several spots. san jose fire says they were

called to nine or ten in the g. >> reporter: arson investigators are looking into the cause. p landed in their jurisdiction. the fraternity house on east san salvador suffered damage after a garbage can was lit on fire and pushed up against the building. an alert warned students and several others sent in the downtown area. a captain with san jose state police said it was similar to the other fires set in the area. the arsonist pushed a dumpster or canen up no one was injured and no reports of major structure damage, but the hope is this does not progress. and fire resources are not used up chasing these types of fires. >> they were all small fires, but at the peak, we had five engines out of service dealing with the small fires. >> reporter: now, the only thing san jose state had as far as a suspect description was a male

during a possible home invasion robbery this week. someone broke into the home on carrington street near 41st avenue after 9:30 tuesday night. officers called to the scene to investigate of a report of a home invasion finding a resident of the home suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. happening later today, bart is expected to decide on an extension that'll shape the future of the commute from the valley into the bay area. five plans are under consideration right now. top options are a pricey five mile extension of the same system to cheaper bus system that's like light rail to be up and running sooner. the bart directors do not get the extension, they'll build through a new tri-valley rail thyitor year. >> the correct decision is to build bart to deliver more, and if they are not willing to do that, i think we should turn over to the authority created through assembly bill 758 and
